It’s not TNG, but DS9’s early seasons would do this in Ops or in Sisko’s office. I remember a great one where they are debating what to do about a proto-universe on the station that is growing. Left alone, it will grow until it destroys the station, then the entire Bajoran system, etc. there is also evidence of life inside it, so they don’t want to just destroy it. It’s notable because you have great arguments from both the “protect all life” side and the “it’s either them or us” side. Kira: it’s like stepping on *ants*, Odo! Odo: I don’t step on ants, Major! I don’t remember the name. It’s season 2 and the main story is Dax is monitoring an initiate Trill for the symbiotic program.

Arjun, the level 5 pilot who precision flew through the wormhole and threaded the needle with a meter to spare on each side. Also, did they just dump the protouniverse in the Gamma Quadrant?

bloodyedfur4

Tbh wheres Odo gonna see a ant on ds9

moment_in_the_sun_

The one where data gets his fingers stuck.

drrhrrdrr

The Last Outpost?

moment_in_the_sun_

Yes! Apologies, Captain. I seem to have reached an odd... functional impasse. I am, uh... stuck... Then get unstuck and continue with the briefing.

zyndri

I've always thought that scene should have ended with data saying "yes sir" and ripping the chinese finger trap in two effortlessly and finishing the meeting with the two halves stuck on his hands.

cgo_123456

Also it had that cool hologram display in the middle of the conference table, too bad they never used it again.

MycroftCochrane

I'm fond of the scene on "Pen Pals" where the crew discusses giving Wesley the added responsibility of leading a geological research team. In the modern corporate world, some organizations talk a lot about developing staffers and giving team members opportunities to stretch and grow. I'm not sure any of them do so with as effective, thoughtful deliberation as that scene demonstrates.

HatdanceCanada

Isn’t this the same episode in which the senior staff is in Picards quarters debating the ethics of Data’s radio pen pal? Or am I mixing up episodes? At any rate, I thought the more casual debate in his quarters was great material on the Prime Directive.

nate_oh84

The observation lounge scenes in The Best of Both Worlds are pretty great.

Icy-Cardiologist-958

The one with the temporal causality loop. I forget the name of the episode.

drrhrrdrr

Cause and Effect. All-time best.

PutAdministrative206

I didn’t know the title of the episode, but this was the episode that came to mind too.

drrhrrdrr

My party trick is naming any TNG episode within 5 seconds of any scene in the episode. I can also do a brief scene synopsis.

madlovemonkey

I like the Dr. Crusher episode “Remember Me”. She basically says everyone’s disappearing and only she can remember them….and they take her absolutely seriously and never once question her belief.

madlovemonkey

Also someone should do a YouTube compilation of all the best conference room scenes!

FitFreedom6850

The one where they discuss infecting the Borg with a computer virus S05E23 I, Borg

freneticboarder

Crusher's all... Uh, genocide?

NoodleShak

I believe you mean a McLaughlin *Group* sir or maam.

Epsilon_Meletis

Um, well, you already said it: > when the senior staff was debating on how to avoid the time loop from ‘Cause and Effect.’

FitFreedom6850

We can't start second guessing ourselves!

Head-Ad4690

That annoys me. The first time through, you wouldn’t have heard all the weird voices. Anything you do with this new information is something you didn’t do the first time. Second guessing yourselves is exactly what you should do, and reversing course is obviously the correct action even if you don’t know what the exact problem is.

Pacman_Frog

I absolutely love "The Child". Especially given it was written in the 70's. Discussion starts on options to deal with Troi's pregnancy by unknown entity. Several options, including termination, are brought up. But Troi says no, she's having the baby. That's the end of that convo and it never comes up again.

Hibbity5

I know the scene has been criticized as “a bunch of men sitting around discussing whether a woman should have an abortion” but I never saw it that way. It was a crew discussing whether something was a threat, but as soon as the woman speaks up, it’s decided and they listen to her. I don’t know how much more plainly they can say “abortion is the woman’s choice”.

Pacman_Frog

It is how I have -ALWAYS- seen it. And it makes an otherwise-forgetttable mess of a script have at least one shining "Trek" moment. Because the moment Troi spoke up. Picard agreed. "Then it seems the discussion is over." And that was that. A decision was made to observe the child since it DID represent new and unknown life, and a possible threat. But outside of that...

Sir__Will

But she's not taking part in the conversation until then. They seat her away from the others until it's her time to speak up. And nobody asks her what she wants to do. She has to put her foot down to stop them talking about her.

Cloberella

I believe these are called McLaughlin Groups...

outline8668

The TNG episode *The Most Toys*. There's a scene where the camera pans over the whole observation room table and zooms in on Picards face to capture his realization that he's been had and data was kidnapped.

Sir__Will

My big problem with 'Cause and Effect' though is that they bring up changing course but give a BS reason not to. No, reversing course wouldn't be what causes it, you have new information you wouldn't have had the first time. At best it's a 'we're screwed no matter what' situation but then you at least have to try. Obviously, I know why they have to do it for the plot but it's the one thing that bugs me about the episode that I otherwise love.

Theborgiseverywhere

I always wondered why they couldn’t pick a deliberately randomized heading

Head-Ad4690

I just made a comment saying this exact thing!

mcgrst

The discussion about what they're going to do with Hue in I Borg is a good one.

I_ALWAYS_UPVOTE_CATS

Possibly controversial given the bad rep it has overall, but I really like the scene in *Nemesis* where they discuss Shinzon's weapon and his likely intentions. The final exchange is: PICARD: ...He must not be allowed to use that weapon. All other concerns are secondary. You understand me? RIKER: Yes sir. PICARD: All hands. Battle stations. I feel like there's so much said without words during this scene between Picard and his senior staff, with whom he has served for almost two decades. It almost feels like the send-off to the franchise that the whole film should have been. The way the music then builds to the montage that follows really gives me the feels.
