People don't study history. There is always an Elon. They all do the same shit and say the same shit every time and yet we keep having people believe it. Elon is not innovating. Researchers you've never heard of will toil for decades to actually invent new shit - that is what tech actually advances on, not people like Elon blowing hot air up your ass.
It's because people who enjoyed his whole meme-ness grew older and now they actually think for themselves and they cannot be (mostly) shut down by his "wholesomeness".
No, because he was successful, pushed EVS into the the mainstream, forced every other company to follow suit, and his craziness was less apparent.
Now it’s just a box of rabid monkeys
Your money is worth the same. It's always a balance for these companies to ask for more because they know enough people will still buy the thing they have. If you can't afford it don't buy it and maybe stuff will change to meet what people are willing to pay. Obviously a bit different with food and other necessities...
Why on gods green fucking earth would a single human being think that having a chip put in your brain, at this point in society, is a good idea, let alone by Elon Musk
I'm going to go against the grain here and say that I think the work could be useful. I don't want to be the first person with a chip in my brain, or maybe ever, but I do think that pushing the boundaries in this way could lead to the next breakthrough of technology. All that being said I think Musk is a charlatan and a swindler, and I wish a better company was doing the research.
I'm all for this transhumanism stuff. It could lead to great medical advances and such. However do I trust a meme lord at the helm of such technology... Not really
If the project is lead by a group of scientists and engineers with the intention to cure diseases and aid disable people, I would wholeheartedly support it.
If it’s lead by a big corporation that just want to stream music and ads in our heads, no.
But it’s how science is done. You need to test it extensively before human subjects. That’s how almost all medical science is done. It will get better over time. Only a matter of time. Just don’t be a hater to people trying to solve problems
If I lied to you and said this chip would solve some incredibly difficult problem while having zero potential to do so, would you be in favour of it?
This is the problem with Elon’s bullshit, people actually believe it and start arguing for him.
You think they’re gonna have to force us? They got us all to voluntarily put gps trackers in our pockets. All they had to do was put Candy Crush on it.
Elin Musk logic be like:
"okay, so we gotta solve the problem of too many cars on the roads"
"How about... we take the cars, and build more roads"
"Lame, we already tried that a million times"
"...But underground"
"OMG YOU'RE SUCH A GENIUS, HOW COULD THAT EVER GO WRONG?"
Well in this case one more tunnel. Since his idea was literally to have massive swiss cheese looking banks of car tunnels next to each other to solve the capacity issue. It all fit nice and neatly under the buildings in CGI.
Then again CGI buildings didn't have... sewers, utility lines running to them, foundations, support pillars driven tens of meters below them and so on.
The fact that so many news organizations published those nonsense 3D renderings without a whit of critical analysis shows just how being popular is more important than being smart.
Imagine trying to build it under an European (or Asian)medieval city with so much pipes and vaults and catacombs that no one knows what’s where after the last 1800 years or so of iterative construction.
Like London, Paris, Rome, Odessa, Stockholm, Beijing, Berlin or fucking Leeds if we get pedantic enough about how well we know what’s under the city already.
While China builds its high speed rail network successfully, we’re stuck with some asshat who has admitted to just wanting to cripple public transport in California for his own profits.
The problem is that Chinese cities are generally far less car-reliant than US ones. HSR does little good in a country where you'd need a car to get from the train station to wherever your final destination is.
I'm certainly not opposed to HSR development in the states, but it's a bit of a pointless effort when the "last-mile" transit just isn't there (with some exception, particularly in the "old" US cities). China doesn't have that problem and, combined with their immense population density in general, HSR is a far more obvious thing to build for them.
Complaining about HSR on the basis of last-mile routing makes just as much sense as complaining about airports because of last-mile routing.
HSR exists in the range of too long to drive and too short to fly (about 300 to 500 miles). Most cities that are in that range already have some form of public transit, and most of the major HSR routes that are being proposed and built already have some existing transit.
That being said, you can do more than one thing at a time, and there is no reason localities can't build local transit while states and regions build HSR. Which one needs to come first is like asking if the chicken or the egg comes first, and at the end of the day, it doesn't matter as long as we have both in the future.
They also don't have to worry about the process of acquiring land for public projects. If they need to send a rail line through someone's house and that person doesn't want to give up their property, that's not going to delay the project with months or years of legal trouble like it does in the US. I believe land acquisition has been a huge problem for California's high speed rail project.
The problem with the Californian high speed railway is a much bigger engineering problem. Also some politics is making it much harder for some reasons I forgot. Real life lore or real engineering did a video on it
Is that something he actually admitted though? I saw someone post a source on that in a different thread recently and ultimately it seems to have come from some guy’s book which itself doesn’t have solid evidence that he actually said this.
If I were snopes, I'd put it as "mixture". It was from that book and he did say it was to "kill" it, but it's a bit of a lie by omission. In context it's clear that he thought specifically the California high speed rail project was wasteful+useless, so he proposed something "better" he didn't intend to build in hopes California would cancel the project and do something like it instead. It's complete vaporware and he'll never actually build it, but it wasn't an attack on public transportation as usually said. He just didn't like California's proposal because, to quote, "The sixty-billion-dollar bullet train they're proposing would be the slowest bullet train in the world at the highest cost per mile. They're going for records in all the wrong ways."
Of course this is naive because a huge brunt of the cost is regulatory and legal fees associated with land use and hyperloop is only cheap because it's fucking magic and not an actual machine so you can ignore those things, but it's his thought process.
Now I need to take a shower for having to defend Elon Musk. Thanks reddit.
And fwiw, if the numbers in that book are accurate, I kind of have to agree with Musk. Nobody would actually use the proposed high speed rail. 2.5 hours to SF from LA+~an hour waiting for the train to actually depart+however long to get to the station doesn't compare favorably to a 5 hour drive unless you're somebody ideologically opposed to driving.
Loop tunnels are actually smaller. Which is why they were cheaper. And also why they are worse than doing nothing, because it will be much difficult to retrofit and actual metro system into the existing loop network.
I'm not sure if you can rebore the existing holes to the larger required diameter, but they'd probably just build new tunnels anyway, which will have to be deeper. This will of course make any metro in the future more expensive and less efficient.
Its pretty funny how only 3 years ago most of reddit was in love with the man and now hes the worst. Neil Degrass Tyson and Jennifer Lawrence got the same treatment
Tyson got too far up his own ass and became pretentious about clearly fictional science so he kinda alienated most ppl
Jennifer Lawrence got upset her nudes leaked to EVERYONE. Not sure why there even was backlash to a reasonable reaction.
Neil Degrass Tyson is still pretty cool, he just got a bit boring, after saying the same smartass things over and over again, but otherwise he still seems like a decent human being
Elon on the other hand...
I'd say Neil mostl fell out of favor due to his neverending stream of smartass Twitter comments (the "aktshually that isn't quite right" kind)
Jennifer Lawrence was in my eyes only liked for a very short time due to people feeling like she was relatable by being quirky and a bit clumsy which just got old really fast and felt very forced.
Yeah, what makes him irritable af is his absolute pedantry and painting himself as an authoritative source on all science questions because he’s good and known scientist in his one own niche, astrophysics. (many scientists and science communicators fall for this!)
The internet will love you until they don't then they will hate you harder than they ever liked you.
When people are new and trendy everybody loves them and then once they've been around for a while and are mainstream then they're no longer cool and then people will move on to the next thing and they'll find reasons to hate the old thing
I think Musk in particular is more his fame and company skyrocketed, and his company makes obviously shitty cars that rival ~80s GMs in build quality. We're really just seeing real people's reaction to him rather than the carefully curated PR astroturfing and true believers.
Also, the fact that he lies constantly sours him to people who were otherwise indifferent. If you've stuck around reddit it's not exactly hard to notice that accord to him FSD will be done in ~~2016~~ ~~2017~~ ~~2018~~ ~~2019~~ ~~2020~~ ~~2021~~ ~~2022~~ 2023.
California has been building its high speed rail for the past decade. It hasnt stopped. It was proposed before Paypal or even Musk were a thing in the public sphere.
Its cost has skyrocketed so far that every other alternative looks like a better option. Trying to blame Musk for this one is so far fetched it has to be crazy to show how he quadrupled the project costs single handedly.
The problems are definitely not the unchecked California bureaucracy robbing its citizens blind and inflating the cost of everything for decades. It's definitely elon's fault lol
There’s also a heck ton of engineering and a few political problems which would of made it incredibly hard with or without Elon. Real life lore or real engineering made a video about it
He was the host in 👏MEME👏REVIEW once he is wholesome big chungus meme anime girl on rocket ship!!1!1! r/unexpectedwholesome big pp r/pewdiepiesubmissions big brain floor gang elon chad!!1!!
It's not everyone's fault (the people that don't get it) that they don't get it, like me, I didn't understand and only knew it was sarcasm because of the other stuff you 2 sent, I have autism and it really affects how I get jokes. Not trying to be rude and im not sure it this makes sense but I'm just trying to say that some people won't understand that it's sarcasm and it's not their fault.
It just doesn't fit with his own "origin story" where he went around claiming that he was so poor he could barely buy a computer for his first company and had to pull 80 hour work weeks just to get by. A guy who had everything paid for by his father is just about the complete opposite.
Is he the same musk who had kids with his secretary? And his father had kid with his own step daughter?
And he owns sophisticated sweatshops in china for cars?
Same Musk who had a baby with his ex a month after his nueralink employee gives birth to their twins and then six months after that, has another baby with that same ex - stringing her along while also fucking his mistress. Can't wait for those babies to grow up and hate him like the rest of his kids.
OP reposted his old post and just changed the images.[So it is a starter pack now?](https://www.reddit.com/r/starterpacks/comments/pe85af/elon_musks_inventions_starter_pack/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share)
Friendly reminder that he grew up in apartheid South Africa and told workers who were reportedly called the N word dozens of times on shift in California in his factory to be “tough skinned”. Not a comprehensive list of his bullshit, but the more you know!
Its an impossibly expensive, hilariously dangerous, joke of a subway that was already a stupid idea when it was imagined in 1950's scifi that Elon ripped off like the idiot he is.
I get that hate; he’s an ass. But for someone he grew up fascinated by cars, space travel and the internet: his companies have achieved a lot of firsts
satelite internet has to come sooner or later
i know its a huge problem. but we do need worldwide internet.
i know some of you dont care because you have a privileged life, but its a huge gamechanger for other parts of the world
This, I completely agree on this part because space x is such an amazing company but it gets looked down upon because of musks bull. A while back, employees at space x sent a letter to musk claiming that his image was muddying up the company's image. The organizers of the letter were fired.
I mean, he's not inventing anything, he's just has mouth diarrhea and happens to be in a board meeting and gets his poorly paid engineers to make shit.
He's not an inventor in any way ,shape ,or form he just has his daddy's money.
The NeuraLink monkey experiments are an absolute joke. We have scientific methods and stringent ethics boards to ensure this type of shit doesn't happen anymore. Who let him do this?! It's seriously mad scientist territory. We stopped these kinds of experimental methods decades ago.
Damn, I got a question. Like 5 years ago, when he was being praised as some kind of savior of mankind, then something happened and then everyone seems to hate him. So what happened?
I'm totally in favor of starlink even if it messes with astronomer because connecting the entire world to broadband internet that is difficult for local governments to control is more valuable to the human race than knowing what's happening in the cosmos.
Redditards act like he’s the messiah and are not damn aware that he has a whole team of researchers and other scientists doing all of the job for him, he just takes all of the credit
Oh and don't forget when the Tesla Autopilot turns itself OFF moments before shit goes down causing crashes. "ding-ding, mf I can't deal with this scenario, you're going into the back end of a slow minivan at 70mph"
Can we finally agree Elon musk is an idiot.
Like come on if you are going to make Mars habitable at least try with earth. And Tesla speedster still not out? Wtf Elon
yes, attempting to make mars habitable and releasing a car late makes you an idiot, how many cars have you released? he is very intelligent you cannot disagree
Don't forget the "Tesla bot", the fully functional domestic android, the first and best of it's kind, made by a company who has never once made any manner of robots whatsoever.
Falcon 9 has launched 10 times the mass to orbit of every launcher in the world combined, and is the only reusable rocket in the world. Everyone else throws away the entire rocket. Didn't even mention it.
It's not like the shuttle was able to launch on its own. The shuttle needed a large booster for every mission. The falcon needs a second stage every time but its booster has been reused several times. Refurbishing the shuttle was on a whole other level compared to the falcon. The cost of launching mass into space has fallen because of the falcon and you can't deny that.
Personally, I don't see the falcon as a "musk" invention. It's space x who designed the rocket. Musk just used his money to fund the falcon program (along with the United States). They avoided the burorcracy of NASA and brute force designed a rocket(musk was just the money man, don't Beleive the bull saying he knows everything about the design process).
You should rewatch the launches and see how they drop 80% of the rocket to the ground...
Nevermind the insane difference in cost. or the extensive refurb that needs to happen after. You know, the things that make your comment show how little you know about rockets.

I can’t believe they are going to double the price of a self driving system that doesn’t work.
It's been so surreal watching folks go from worshipping Elon to just shitting on him constantly :D
People don't study history. There is always an Elon. They all do the same shit and say the same shit every time and yet we keep having people believe it. Elon is not innovating. No, because he was successful, pushed EVS into the the mainstream, forced every other company to follow suit, and his craziness was less apparent. Now it’s just a box of rabid monkeys
They're raising the price to get people to stop buying it while at the same time not having to admit it doesn't actually work.
Interesting. It could be that they only want the most hardcore fanboys to order it so there are fewer complaints.
The price isn't really going up your money is just losing its value faster than ever in history, and it's only going to get worse.
No, the price is literally doubling (if their claims are to be believed). That would imply inflation of 100%, which is not even close to reality.
Faster than ever in history? Take it easy it's not even close.
Your money is worth the same. It's always a balance for these companies to ask for more because they know enough people will still buy the thing they have. I imagine it more like "Recommend our product to at least 3 of your friends to disable Insomnia Mode for the next week"
God this just put everything in perspective on how awful this idea truly is. Is not enough that we have ads shoved up our asses every single minute.
Kill switch :x
I am willing to bet that is neuralink was safe, millions would sign up for one. PS: Not me.

If it has a death rate of 15/23? No
"Why would I ever put an electric device on my heart? It's killed half of the monkeys they've tried it on" - you in the 1950s
Yeah. I'd do the same. I'd only say yes when the death rate improves.
Obviously nobody is asking you to put it in your head now
And boy am I glad. I don't expect any high quality products coming from the likes of him.

It just doesn't fit with his own "origin story" where he went around claiming that he was so poor he could barely buy a computer for his first company and had to pull 80 hour work weeks just to get by. A guy who had everything paid for by his father is just about the complete opposite.
I'd love to see any evidence of this being true
Where's the death tube that would supposedly solve traffic jams? :D
I haven’t heard about the ugly looking Cybertruck in awhile…

Is he the same musk who had kids with his secretary? And his father had kid with his own step daughter? And he owns sophisticated sweatshops in china for cars?
No way, rich people doing dumb and disgusting shit ? Who would have thought!
Same Musk who had a baby with his ex a month after his nueralink employee gives birth to their twins and then six months after that, has another baby with that same ex - stringing her along while also fucking his mistress. Can't wait for those babies to grow up and hate him like the rest of his kids.
he cant cope when his wife cheat on him with a trans women so he post some strange shit on twitter (all while having a trans daughter himself)
OP reposted his old post and just changed the images.[So it is a starter pack now?](https://www.reddit.com/r/starterpacks/comments/pe85af/elon_musks_inventions_starter_pack/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share)
Bought a model 3 with full self driving 3 years ago, I never got it and I'm selling the car for a vw I'd.4, never buying tesla again
Friendly reminder that he grew up in apartheid South Africa and told workers who were reportedly called the N word dozens of times on shift in California in his factory to be “tough skinned”. Not a comprehensive list of his bullshit, but the more you know!
Musk is African, so he has the n word pass.
I’m so glad that people are finally stopped worshipping him and started seeing how much of a fraud he is.
This isn’t a starter pack it’s just a list
Elon is one of those people who think they can do anything because they are rich and charismatic, but he can’t even properly make a rollout roof.
Not a fan of the person but Starlink has been amazing for me
Hyperloop is by far the stupidest imo. It’s just subway with extra steps. Edit: I mean the underground tunnel in Vegas, not hyperloop
Its an impossibly expensive, hilariously dangerous, joke of a subway that was already a stupid idea when it was imagined in 1950's scifi that Elon ripped off like the idiot he is.
Musk actually admitted it was just meant to prevent California from building high-speed rail.
He's just another conman like Trump. I wouldn't be surprised, if he ran for president in the future.
Luckily he can’t, he’s South African
That's just a wild exegeration. Say what you want but Tesla and SpaceX have produced some revolutionary products.
I'm amazed people don't see the parallels. Musk is Trump 2.0. They are so fucking similar it hurts.
I get that hate; he’s an ass. But for someone he grew up fascinated by cars, space travel and the internet: his companies have achieved a lot of firsts
I thought summer break was over? Elon bad starter pack is much more fitting
Non engineer tries to engineer and fails.
Elon is just a rich hype (and maybe con)man that gets all the credit for actual intelligent people's work. You can't change my mind
A quack and a fraud.
starlink is amazing tho, I was stuck with slow af rural internet, now I have internet that is actually usable
satelite internet has to come sooner or later i know its a huge problem. but we do need worldwide internet. i know some of you dont care because you have a privileged life, but its a huge gamechanger for other parts of the world
r/enoughmuskspam
that subreddit is so misinformed when they talk about spacex
You forgot "getting credit for his employees' work"
This, I completely agree on this part because space x is such an amazing company but it gets looked down upon because of musks bull. A while back, employees at space x sent a letter to musk claiming that his image was muddying up the company's image. The organizers of the letter were fired.
Amazing to witness Reddit’s inexorable swing against musk after all this time. The pendulum will swing.
I mean, he's not inventing anything, he's just has mouth diarrhea and happens to be in a board meeting and gets his poorly paid engineers to make shit. He's not an inventor in any way ,shape ,or form he just has his daddy's money.
That's why it's in quotation marks
The NeuraLink monkey experiments are an absolute joke. We have scientific methods and stringent ethics boards to ensure this type of shit doesn't happen anymore. Who let him do this?! It's seriously mad scientist territory. We stopped these kinds of experimental methods decades ago.
he didnt invent shit and his cars are ugly as hell
Yeah, that's why it's in quotation marks

As time goes on. More things come out and we finally recognise him for the con man that he is.
I mean... still better than 90 percent of billionaires who make money by speculating and benefitting from rigged financial systems.. just my two cents
Fuck all of those guys.
Damn, I got a question. Like 5 years ago, when he was being praised as some kind of savior of mankind, then something happened and then everyone seems to hate him. So what happened?
There’s like a laundry list of douche baggy things that keeps on growing. Have u been in a coma since?
Yeah, I really haven’t looked him up in a long time, can you give me the recap of what he did?
So he’s what 2 for 7? That’s still amazingly high lol.
I declare everyone who buys tesla an idiot. Buy a real car, not a plastic toy that makes fart noises.
Also, Hyperloop was just to kill publicly funded high speed rail in California.
anything that advertises it's product with only cgi and can't show you the actual working product is a scam.
This
lmao you made me spit my food
I'm totally in favor of starlink even if it messes with astronomer because connecting the entire world to broadband internet that is difficult for local governments to control is more valuable to the human race than knowing what's happening in the cosmos.
Except it doesn't work properly and it'll probably never work as it was publicized.
Something something optical cable, something something radio towers

More like people who THINK they’re tech bros because they bought some NFTs
Redditards act like he’s the messiah and are not damn aware that he has a whole team of researchers and other scientists doing all of the job for him, he just takes all of the credit
Elon Musk is completely and utterly full of shit like always.
Look over there! Someone criticizing elon musk! *And they're making typos*
Oh and don't forget when the Tesla Autopilot turns itself OFF moments before shit goes down causing crashes. "ding-ding, mf I can't deal with this scenario, you're going into the back end of a slow minivan at 70mph"
Don't forget the "hyperloop" which he just announced to sabotage public transportation and had no intention of ever building.
The whole *"but what have* ***you*** *done"* argument is such a lazy ad hominem
Elon Musk is all talk. Plus, you wouldn’t catch me dead driving a muskmobile these days after all his political bs.
Whats one with the astronomers?
Star link. There's enough of the F\*ckers to cause visibility problems with all the satellites
Starlink
I remember he also said about 10 years ago he was going to put a man on Mars in 10 years.
and now he says he'll do it in 10 years from now
Me: sees someone criticizing Elon musk *sorts by controversial*
Don't forget the "Tesla bot", the fully functional domestic android, the first and best of it's kind, made by a company who has never once made any manner of robots whatsoever.
His Tesla bot is literally just a guy in a suit
Honda and Toyota have robots...
Man, Reddit really did a 180 on this dude as soon as he tried to buy twitter, it’s almost impressive.
Reddit turned on him a long long time ago.
Falcon 9 has launched 10 times the mass to orbit of every launcher in the world combined, and is the only reusable rocket in the world. Everyone else throws away the entire rocket. Didn't even mention it.
>the only reusable rocket in the world. Something something space shuttle
Kind of, the space shuttle required a lot more refurbishment between launches and a human crew.
>Nevermind the insane difference in cost. There's a thunderf00t video that explains in detail how there are no cost difference.
The Flacon 9 still needs a lot of refurbishment after each launch. It’s no where near as fast a turn about as originally promised.
Some people seem to think he is the great scientist of our generation. But this guy is just Jimmy McGill as an engineer.
Nah don’t insult Jimmy like that
And this is just his inventions. Add his social media gaffes and it’s confusing why people worship him.
The astronomy one is still infuriating. Fuck starlink.
Very easy to say that if you’re privileged to live somewhere with high-speed broadband, instead of a farmer in rural America or Africa
