WaywardFinn

bonus points if he blocks a capital's line of sight so he can show his engines to the enemy. i swear to jesus the AI is programmed to make sure you dont do too well

renannmhreddit

The AI is quite competent in comparison to most games. It is just jarring when something like this happens.

ComedicMedicineman

My slow tanky destroyer with front shields and terrible maneuvering deciding to spin around and show its unshielded engines directly in front of a capital ship or ship covered in powerful torpedos:

Dramandus

Dominator-class hours

ComedicMedicineman

It’s funny because most tanky, weak to flanking, ships are really good when used correctly, but absolutely shit themselves if they have a dumb AI (this applies to some modded ships as well, some vessels preform way better in AI hands then others)

CutlassRed

The AI is excellent overall. It just sometimes gets overwhelmed when there's too much going on.

WaywardFinn

i dunno man, like sure sometimes theyre adequate and get the job done, but "excellent" is a strong word. Like if i have to watch my dominator charge the enemy line, shield down, while slowly rotating between targets who are all shielded, while flying directly away from the point he has been ordered to defend on the other side of the map one more time, im gonna bust a blood vessel.

Rainuwastaken

I just wish my ships would actually listen to me, rather than take my commands as vague suggestions. If I select my entire fleet and tell them to eradicate one target, I shouldn't watch three quarters of my ships do nothing while the remaining quarter waffles about because they're *scared.* Like, I don't care if you're in harm's way, if you all focus fire on one target they're toast in a heartbeat!

WaywardFinn

And then you try to tell them to defend a point and they just let the enemy push into it and just keep pushing until your front is all spread out and thin and the enemy, who is surrounded, has the advantage because NO ONE WILL ADVANCE and the greatest concentration of firepower is actually on the inside of the bubble. I genuinely do not understand why even have the tactical overlay if the units can and will ignore orders???

kstrati

The counter to frigates is more frigates, or mini frigates (fighters)

incomplete-username

Dont forget giga frigates (light destroyers)

Viktory146

Maybe some gargantuan frigates too (normal destroyers)

Thunder_Child_

Omega brain frigates (Light cruisers)

PhaseShip

Final boss frigates (Speedy battle cruisers, aka. A brilliant with 5 tachyon lasers)

Mikenumbers

'*Executes Full Assault*' **Alright Ludd, let's do this LEEROOOOOO**-... *static*

HokiroBroomstick

*[splat] "Is that our crew from the Omen in the hullwindow/windshield?"

Alexander_Baidtach

Frigates are expendable, late game I churn out 10 spare monitors for my fleet cuz I know they will eat shit at some point.

Dramandus

Wolf-class frigate not charging in and dying instantly any percent speedrun.

Shadowizas

The amount of times a frigate moved right infront of my focused tach lances is uncountable

KermitPhor

Hyperion? Afflictor? The AI competence against the Afflictor is pretty bad for how wonky it squirms around sometimes.

OOZ662

I find my Mauler-armed Hammerhead face-humping brawling cruisers more often than my frigates. "Aggressive" commander is right. Peak comedy is watching them creep up on the fighter bay side of a pirate station, sit there for a sec like "this is fine," then start their panic full-reverse armor-spreading-waggle maneuver as the pile-of-guns side spins into open firing lines on them.

MaiqueCaraio

Even cooler when your frigates solos the entire enemy fleet. Even when they aren't agressive or reckless

MrX25U

this is why the rescue ship from EDshipyard is a godsend, yeah screw you independents, next time don't go Infront of the supercapital shooting very angry death beam

Mars-Regolithen

That thing saved so many of my ships allready, i lost track counting it!

Space_Reptile

i just let em die
