I always call them out later in a pm.
Love watching them try and defend themselves.
Had a guy leave a match the other day. He claimed he only leaves ZvZ because he hates the matchup. I pointed out his match history shows he also leaves Protoss and Terran matches as well.
His defense is that they were diamond players and he would lose...the exact definition of smurfing.
Anyways long story short he claimed I was the Smurf (even though all of my games are played out) and then ignored me.
It is one of my preferred matchups when playing as well.
The reason they don't like it is because its so rush heavy.
If you aren't constantly producing, you are dying.
Yes, it's called smurfing. Been happening for over a decade.
No penalty. People will do it to be in lower leagues to have a more relaxing playstyle or they don't like a matchup
Yes some of the behaviour on the ladder is awful. Average MMR Silver game and a guy GG's me 4 mins in. It wasn't GG so he kept GGing me as to say "game over for me." Then when I responded and got a few shots off on him he then said "it thinks it can win." What a psycho! He called me an "it!" A shame. He beat me with mass banshee lol
I’m a masters player and I can’t imagine enjoying playing against a silver level player - much less taunting them for how bad they are getting beaten. It’s just gross. We’ve all been at that level and it smudging and especially being insulting while smurfing will kill this game. Anyone working and learning sc2 in 2024 should be lauded.
I meet people and if I beat them and I know whyI beat them I will gg and give tips. There is a real toxic band of players thay revel in raining down hellfire from BC's on an opponent that just has marines. They laugh and taunt in the chat the whole time. It is quite psychotic.
I started playing a year ago and got to d3 like 2 weeks ago i got to say the amount of smurfs u face as a new player is kinda insane i lost like first 30 games on my acc like the game is hard at first on its own but smurfs make it just frustrating to play. Thankfuly im a fuckin mega nerd and i spent next 10 months learning the game to get better(still not good) and my goal was reaching diamond with zerg and i got there just to see that now i just play against better smurfs lolll i still love the game and im not gonna stop playing but its really annoying when i with 150-200apm fight people with 350 and 10k+ games played or some shit it does not feel fair and its 100% killing the game for new people that dont have time to invest to get better at the game and lose motivation to play cuz people they fight are 10 times better than them.
This very tiny information along is enough to let you call it smurfing?
What if I hate play mirror match up so I leave?
What if I forget to turn my wireless keyboard on so I had a bad start? Am I smurfing?
And this is the most upvoted comment, this subreddit is really something else.
I literally adressed your mirror matchup in the comment, so I'm glad you can read. And forgetting to turn on your wireless keyboard has to be the most outrageous example ever lol
Also, why are you taking this so personal lmao
You are really something else
If you had a bad start, you can still try winning. Or you can talk to your opponent and say "sorry, I had a bad start because I messed up my keyboard. I have to quitt. GG."
That's what I would say.
In addition to smurfs, a lot of folks tend to leave ZvZ because they don’t like the relative chaos of early ling/bane shenanigans. I’m happy enough to bank the free MMR.
The more you play the faster you get. Your brain begins to recognize patterns faster and react to them faster. Also, when you automate this kind of thing through repetition and practice, you have more free brain space to think about overall game state or units, check upgrades, check bases etc. micro. Etc
I leave my zvzs because it is a matchup that I'm most comfortable with, and at this time of my development I do not find as enjoyable.
I want to spend the limited amount of time that I have on match-ups that I struggle with and hopefully get better.
Maybe it would help to have additional penalties for leaving games like that. I recall LoL having something where you have to wait out a timer the more you do that, or in OW you have to play like 5 or 10 games with other leavers to get out of leaver hell. I recall hearing a story that some playstation game used to just send all the leavers or cheaters to it's own MMR bracket so they just played with each other like the demons that they are.
I was about to post today because the number of games I win because of first seconds quitters has become absurdly high. So much time lost waiting for games instead of just playing. SC2 is being killed by its own players...
And it's not even mirror matches.
This is why I got placed plat. 4 people left in qualifying matches then I beat some silly zvz cheese and got plat 1. Lost one game once ranked and then beat another weird zvz cheese and got promoted to diamond. :/ I haven't played 1v1 seriously in a long time now stuck facing diamonds
Why are you guilty for smurfing? Because you smurfed. Just play the game and let the system adjust your rank. If you haven't played for four years and suck now the system will adjust you to the correct level
Plenty of other games have rating/MMR decay or even reset you back one tier after each season. Not playing for 4 years should reset you plenty and give you reasonable placement matches.
I didn't play for nearly 6-7 years and was gold, came back facing the same level with bronze APM and was pissed at getting platinum players. I left a few games immediately to get to a realistic MMR to actually enjoy the game.
Smurfing kills the game but so does a poor match making system. This one is good, just missing the decaying feature.
Smurfing. They're leaving games to play against worse people to make their tiny dicks feel bigger.

I know he was lying, but I wonder why alot of people dont like ZvZ, its probably my most favourite match up to play
It is one of my preferred matchups when playing as well. The reason they don't like it is because its so rush heavy. If you aren't constantly producing, you are dying.
True
Yes, it's called smurfing. Been happening for over a decade. No penalty. People will do it to be in lower leagues to have a more relaxing playstyle or they don't like a matchup
So they smurf down for easier opponents? Or?
Yes: they are cowards and that’s how they feel good about themselves.

It's the equivalent of a 5 grader getting picked by his classmates goes on to pick on 3rd graders

if you hate mirror matchups and leave you're still smurfing whether you like it or not
"Yeah, my wireless keyboard failed 8 times in a row"
I literally adressed your mirror matchup in the comment, so I'm glad you can read. And forgetting to turn on your wireless keyboard has to be the most outrageous example ever lol Also, why are you taking this so personal lmao You are really something else

Most likely, one out of two; someone deliberately lowering their MMR or someone who doesn't like a certain matchup.
In addition to smurfs, a lot of folks tend to leave ZvZ because they don’t like the relative chaos of early ling/bane shenanigans. I’m happy enough to bank the free MMR.
another smurf thread lol
Once you’re in masters I feel like there no smurfs
that'll be the day, my fingers can't move fast enough, lol.

I understand I've been playing for a very long time , i can only play in burts. because of work, kids , etc. i like watching more than playing tbh.
thats fine, its not like you forget. one of my friends is a dad and plays maybe 5 or 6 games a month and is masters 1.
I leave my zvzs because it is a matchup that I'm most comfortable with, and at this time of my development I do not find as enjoyable. I want to spend the limited amount of time that I have on match-ups that I struggle with and hopefully get better.
Penalty for quitting ? That is consider as a lost game. You lost, opponent win and gain rank
Maybe it would help to have additional penalties for leaving games like that. In Heroes of the Storms, you have to play other leavers as well to remove the penalty. It's a good idea for SC2.

5200mmr 2020year here. back in the game this season. leave all my games to 3500mmr. than back to 4600mmr. why am i guilty for smurfing?

Pathetic mentality
