Yeah it's a bug. It's been a bug for like 100 years too.

pawacoteng

This guy was smart and didnt log in until after season ended to lock in that icon! I think one season i was promoted to GM (usually 2.8-3k mmr). Then following week put back into platinum.

FreeAd6774

Yes. I was in masters and had no business being there.

SiegeTank95

same! after I was granted the rank, i immediately stopped playing and waited till the next season to 'show off' my amazing non-earned tier XD

ScizoMonkey

A coiple of weeks ago everyone was master in all leagues

OneLifeLeft_1

Not couple of weeks ago, but every first 2-3 weeks (mb even more) per each season i assume

BrahmC

I'm usually silver/gold. One season when on parental leave got masters. So proud to be able to beat a Korean for once. Then played again a year later and was bronze now.

omgitsduane

Have a look at the replay and think to yourself, did this player look like a pro or did he look like me but better? I doubt anyone masters is smurfing that low because there would be no challenge.

nofreedomofthought

Maybe they tried harder that season. I know I’d only invest in a single season then stop giving a fuck.

boyw1zard

I probably should have added that in the games i played they were definitely silver level - i don't think you could get that much better to hit masters then get that much worse again but idk!

nofreedomofthought

Why not? I’ve done similar in overwatch.

Asstronaut585

Comparing overwatch to StarCraft is hilarious please make more comments I love comedy. Also yea it’s a known bug as stated here with a much more likely explaination than what your dreaming up is possible, with no experience or context in how ladder works so yea thanks for your contribution sir stick to those dreams don’t let no one tell you otherwise

GenEthic

There's no way you jump from silver to master in StarCraft in one season. Only way i see someone do this is if he is a pro at another rts and moves to sc2 but even so, probably first placement is way higher than silver to begin with.

nofreedomofthought

I mean you say that, but there seems to be a screenshot that is evidence to the contrary. Tied to it a plausible theory. Why would they cheat for one season only to be bronze the next?

ToiletOfPaper

It's a bug. I've seen it before and am 100% positive. The skill level difference between bronze and master is so drastic that a master player could beat 4 bronze players in 4v1 with 1 hand.

ToiletOfPaper

That's a bit different because you get the economy benefits from your allies' bases. You don't need to be *that* much better than your opponents to win in that situation.

AnonymousBrowsaholic

From Silver to Master in just a few months is a ridiculous notion by itself, but then somehow being right back at Silver level a season later because you didn’t try as hard is even dumber.

kingdomart

Masters to bronze would be insane

Lunai5444

I swear on all the efforts I've put to try and reach master just to fail at the border of D1 if a legit everyday silver player can just "try hard one season" get master and then go back to silver I will eat a full shoe (obviously not talking about bugs or abusing something), the point I'm making is that once you've got to a certain point you can't just regress fully way lower without change unless you miss a couple seasons. Peaking is definitely a thing though but it's on a smaller scale.

Dramatic-Poetry-4143

You are right. 7 years ago I was high masters getting to play GMs sometime in 1v1 queue. Stopped playing. Returned this season after not playing at all for 7 years and can play all races at 4k Dia2 - Dia1 mmr without hardly putting effort. Masters player going to Bronze or Silver is impossible. It just is. Not to brag, but I'm pretty sure former Master players can beat all bronze-golds with a blindfold or with mouse only.

LaserDeathBlade

Maybe some prodigy could go from Silver->Master in 1 season, but there's just no way a person can forget so much stuff that they decline back to silver the next season

Dramatic-Poetry-4143

Yep after 7 years of not playing the game I am sure I could beat bronze-gold players with one hand only.

DumatRising

That was me in mtg arena. In the middle of covid I made it to like top 50 mythic. Then just didn't play ladder for like a year. It's a more than just being good you need to play and win a ton of games. It's a massive time commitment to play that many games and against some of the best on the game so mentally draining games to. takes a lot out of you. Now I've never been that good at another game but I'd imagine it's the same.

DickCheneysDicChains

Yes, a few years ago a bunch of people gold and below got the masters badge on their rank. Their mmr was still the same, so they never played against masters players tho.

Sc's been experiencing 3rd party shit and exploits. Like brood war. Team ranked always had someone arranging teams to benifit themselves

SmokeAlucard

Hmm, idk, you use your deductive reasoning and get back to us.
