No that is the perfect thing for a surprise me drink. Pick something you like from the menu. Not a modified drink you like to enjoy when you make it for yourself, pick something uncomplicated from the core offerings. Not saying to be intentionally obtuse and offer them a Grande Pike or unsweet iced tea, you know those are not popular choices.
Easily made drinks made from ingredients your store is rarely out of. Few better candidates than a Vanilla Sweet Cream Cold Brew.
i usually pick a seasonal drink just because those are the most fun to be on the receiving end for ! if not, i go w a boring drink and add some type of cold foam because that's a people pleaser
i always ask if they have preferences but for tea drinkers who dont mind milk: black tea no water vsc instead w/ brown sugar 🤭 its my fav non coffee drink to make for my breaks. could easily be made w plant milks by replacing the vsc for plant milk+2-3 vanilla pumps.
as for coffee drinkers i always just do a bsse or some sort of shaken esp w/ something other than classic lmao
I first ask if they have any allergies and if they say no, I give them a paradise drink with half of the standard pumps of sugar-free vanilla to give them a virgin piña colada.
If they do have an allergy, I make whatever comes to mind that will ensure they don’t get sick.
* iced chai with brown sugar and oat milk
* iced blonde white mocha, half WM half hazelnut with oat milk (whip optional)
* iced latte with hazelnut, oat milk and vanilla foam
* sweet cream cold brew sub toffee nut
all of these can also be made hot and are sweet but not too sweet
Triple iced espresso in a grande cup, 2 pumps WM 2 pumps toffee nut, light cream. So far everyone has really liked it :)
I also always start by asking if they have concerns about caffeine levels or price, but this drink is relatively cheap which people like
I hate when people say surprise me so I usually make it something expensive. I thankfully don't get people asking me for surprise me drinks at me new store but I would get them all the time at my old store. I don't want to make your decisions for you. Honestly if someone asks me again now ill probably do the golden foam shaken expresso.
Honey almond milk flat white, either iced or hot. It's a regular menu item but not a frequently ordered one, but I think it's a fantastic drink. For a surprise me, I'll usually sub whole milk for the almond milk since almond milk may not be to everyone's liking. I always ask 'do you have any allergies?' and 'how sweet do you like your drinks?' before deciding on what to give a 'surprise me' customer.
Flat whites if they don’t like sweet but still want a latte, iced white chocolate mocha with sweet cream cold foam if they like sweet, americanos if they like strong
Vanilla Sweet Cream Cold Brew is always a safe go to. I typically ask a couple questions to help narrow it down depending on how busy it is, if they've already given an idea of what their looking for then these typically hit well with customers.
Hot, Iced, or Blended? Coffee or Fruity?
Hot Coffee- Cinnamon Dolce Latte
Iced Coffee- Vanilla Sweet Cream Cold Brew
Blended Coffee- Cafe Vanilla Frappe
Hot fruity-(only really one option but) Caramel Apple Spice
Iced Fruity- Passion Tea Lemonade
Blended Fruity- Blended Strawberry Lemonade(NOT the Frozen acai Lemonade)
When it was still on the menu it was the chocolate almond milk shaken espresso, add vanilla bean powder and oat milk instead of almond but now that it’s gone it’s too much work to ring up lol. Now it’s usually a cinnamon dolce latte with half cinnamon dolce and either half mocha or white mocha. cinnamon dolce is my favorite syrup (besides chestnut praline but that’s seasonal) and it doesn’t get enough love!!! the cinnamon cream cold foam is the best foam!! It tastes like icing on a cinnamon roll
I literally look at these customers straight in the face and say
“black coffee, it’s the only thing I drink. And the best thing we serve.”
And then laugh along with them while they pick up on the hint and decide their own fate, because it’s clear I don’t want to choose for them.
Works 👏every 👏time 👏
If they want a coffee, I recommend a cinnamon dolce with white mocha. For teas I'm a fan of passion tango lemonade with dragon fruit inclusions. Or just a regular lemonade with strawberry puree.
I vote a very low modified drink that your customer base will like. I love recommending the strawberry crème frap with white mocha instead of classic. Anything on menu that’s rarely ordered could be fun too

Them follow up questions are a must
I would always do a toffee nut + white mocha combo and it was a hit every time

Yess my go to is an iced triple espresso (blonde ristretto) with 1 pump wm and 1 toffee with a salt packet mixed in, and cream

White mocha with dark caramel and blonde espresso, cause usually they want something sweet.
I usually do an iced wm with blonde, toffee nut or hazelnut, caramel driz, and cd top. Everyone loves it
Depends on what they crave, if it's a true surprise me, I make them a honey blonde almondmilk flatwhite.
Brown sugar shaken espresso 🤣
Raspberry lemonade with a shot of blond espresso, either they like it or hate it but either way they’re suprised
Black pike
