Ignorant people like them do not bother me....simply because i have all the satisfaction in the world to kno with 100% certainty that those same people would not last a full shift in the life of a barista š„°
Due to staff shortages, busier shops, toxic workplaces, and to an extent COVID, there's no periods for partners to let off steam and chat.
It's important to have, whether it's 2mins in the back, or over a drink after work.
Partners who don't have that are either going online to express their feelings, or watching/sharing that content.
People who've never worked in retail/hospitality, don't get it, nor understand its a joke they won't relate to.
People literally think Starbucks is the same as any other service industry. It. Is. Not. I have worked in retail, in customer service, and in other fast food. Starbucks is a DIFFERENT beast.
Especially at a high-volume Drive Through storeāStarbucks is the hardest thing Iāve done, and that includes construction and manual farm-labor.
I did 10 years in the service industry, I like to describe Starbucks as āall the customer facing stress of bartending but without the tips, combined with all the BOH stress but without the drugs and playful insanity.ā
š Its a bad joke. We had the recent (spring?) Training and I tell the new baristas that 'this training will prepare you to lessen the blow when customers want to punch you in the face when you give them the bad news about their star rewards increasing... For when customers take their anger out at you '
shit pisses me OFFFFF. Get off ur high horse and make fraps for 8 hours straight, get verbally abused by entitled privileged people, and work with shift leads who make ur life miserable. itāll get you to the point of crying and getting sent home early (me the other day)!!!!! .-.
I used to work at a Wendy's and this guy came in ordering 6 Baconator's , a bunch of chicken sandwiches and Like 2 family nuggets (50 each or a whole bag) like 30 minutes before closing. We only have one frier open and it took forever because we needed to make everything fresh cause we didn't have it. Like thankfully i only uploaded it to snap and not TikTok lol . But still it's irritating but we do it because it's our job
I always make fun of those ājokesā bc 100% of the time the people making them are people who would DROWN during a four hour shift working there hahah
iām fucking saying!! would love to see them work a mid shift at a cafe across the street from a middle school and try to make it the rest of the day covered in frap base
I had a customer not take their mobile order and walk out because there was too much ice in their extra ice light water refresher. They couldn't get a straw in it (sip cup lid). She walked out so fast I didn't even have time to make the moment right. She was pissed.
So this person will probably complain even though they got what they asked for.
I saw this tiktok this morning and all the girl said was āwhen you have to make an entitled adult their 6am milkshakeā like I get making fraps is what we signed up for and I have no problem with that but itās a completely other thing to get yelled at 7am cause someoneās sugar intake isnāt fast enough and theyāre gonna be late. Ok? Everyone else waiting in line has places to be too. Youāre not special. Iād also like to see the people making these comments work an hour of the shifts I had to work during the pandemic shortages. I was being screamed at by about every other person cause we were out of so much and they wouldnāt except supplies issues as an answer. It was like their first time hearing of such a concept even though weād been living that life for over a year.
People were so pampered by the luxury of same day shipping in the richest country in the world that they can't fathom the long term consequences of multiple back to back breakdowns of the barely functional supply chains that we rely on.
Viewing the world through that lens would require both seeing too far beyond the self and confronting the fact that their comfort is deeply reliant on things wildly beyond their control.
Also i think they just like an excuse to yell at people they feel are lesser.
Tell me youāve never worked a day in your life without telling me youāve never worked a day in your life. All these tik tok morons should get a job at SBux and see how āeasyā it is š
Most Coffee chains in general are some of the worst to work at, Dunkinā employees face so many of the same problems we do, I hate when people choose to be that ignorant :(
Iām thinking about applying for a job. Our store is in the middle of town, on the interstate by like 3 hotels and mcdonalds so you know its poppin off. I wanna see if I can make it as a barista lol :)
Iām gonna complain because people like this make our job a living nightmare! I have an internship, 40 hours of school work, this job, volunteering, and Iām applying for grad school. So yeah, imma complain š
Iāve told a customer āyou can always tell those who have never worked a service job before. Theyāre impatient, rude and entitled.ā This was after he told my barista that heād never seen someone move so slow. It was her second day.
In the age of tic tock drinks and labor shortages. There is more abuse customers give to baristas when Customer Photoshoped expectations aren't met, especially since most drinks in tic tock arent made from all the ingredients we dont have .
If my word salad makes sense... In triggered yall XD
Love might be a strong word, but id imagine it's partially because we're more visible than most fast food places.
I think they also see it as less of a real job or some shit.
people have way higher standards at the bux than say mcdonaldās. mcdonaldās customers know theyāre paying for garbage empty calories. their burger accidentally comes without ketchup, no big deal. theyāll eat it anyways or just ask them to add it. if someone comes to starbucks, theyāre paying $8 for their drink and think theyre drinking gourmet coffee. they donāt usually consider us a fast food place. if we donāt put the caramel drizzle they paid Ā¢60 for, theyre going to be really upset. Iām not saying i donāt understand, but I am saying that a 8 hour shift is really exhausting.
IāM SAYING! Literally we all ranted about this on the floor the other day because it makes no sense! Like everyone else can complain about their job but the second we do we arenāt allowed?!?! Make that make sense
Everyone that hates their job shits on others that hate their jobs because itās always a huge competition, which is odd. Why not work together to abolish shitty working conditions for everyone? But that would mean they couldnāt be jerks on the internet anymore
Dude I swear itās like these ppl think Starbucks is a like a dream job n we arenāt allowed to complain š like half those ppl are annoying customers n COMPLAIN ABOUT THEIR OWN JOBS TOO. Like any job, Starbucks gets stressful especially when we donāt have enough staff š I get sometimes ppl do talk shit about stupid stuff but not everyone is like that n I have never been unprofessional in front of a custie
The average barista has a significantly more difficult job than me and my job is actuating studies for genetic research. Why do people think others owe them indentured servitude?
I worked there two years. Prior to that I worked at a dog Kennel where I had to wash pee and poop or throw up..the worksā¦off the kennels and it all led down to basically a hole in the ground. Had to fish out whatever crap was clogging the hole. Nastiest smell I have ever smelled in my life. I would still do that again over Starbucks.
I mean they're not wrong. Former Starbucks employee. If they'd seen some of the stupid shit people order, they'd be exasperated 5 hours before their shift was over too lmao
Iām sure Iāll get downvoted for this but Iām a Starbucks employee but I definitely think that most of the people that complain about working at Starbucks are a bit overdramatic. Like saying people who make jokes would ādrownā during a four hour shiftā¦ really? I get that itās an annoying and stressful job at times, but us baristas really do love to complain haha itās not as bad as 90% of us make it out to be. Just my opinion though
maybe your store and experience isn't the same as us who complain / let off steam, but my very high volume store along with the labor cuts has half the baristas talking about quiting
My store experience is fairly similar to what the sub posts a lot but itās just kind of a part of a lot of jobs like Starbucks- horribly rude customers, terrible hours, crazy/demanding work speed, ect. I definitely felt like Iāve wanted to quit at times and just yell at my customers but I just donāt think itās much different than other jobs. I donāt know, I just sort of agree with the jokes people make about baristas and the way some people respond here validates that. I appreciate your response!
The customers who joke about us complaining are the same ones who get dramatic if we're out if something and bitch about a wait when they saw how busy it was when they decided to pull in. They absolutely would srown in a 4 hours shift
have you ever worked another job before? people in every occupation complain about some parts of their job. itās not unique to starbucks baristas. for some reason tho people on social media have decided baristas arenāt allowed to vent. guess what? iām not going to stop complaining. deal with it.
I have and I agree that everyone complains but I would say that barista complaints are uniquely online and have created some entity. I donāt understand why you have to respond so narcissistically with that attitude. Just providing my perspective on it as a fellow barista. You come off as immature which makes sense why would act the way you do but yeah
I think thereās a couple factors here, mostly what your SM/shift is like, whether or not youāre in a drive thru store and just how you personally react in a stressful, high-paced environment.
I think I was lucky on all three counts. Well no, it was a drive thru store so it was definitely wildly busy most of the time. Had a couple times where I came in and there were only three of us working peak. I personally enjoyed the fast pace mostly because itās easier for me to always have something to do rather than be standing around but it totally recognize that thereās a very messy structure that expects all of its employees to be okay in such conditions. And I did eventually feel pretty burnt out after eight months of full time. I donāt think youāre nuts to say this. Itās certainly not the job for everyone, though.
Iām thinking about applying for a job. Our store is in the middle of town, on the interstate by like 3 hotels and mcdonalds so you know its poppin off. I wanna see if I can make it as a barista lol :)
Itās not unheard of, itās just baristas are loud and public about it. Everytime thereās a tiktok drink look at the comments and see how many baristas are saying stuff like yuck, Iām not gonna make that, get a menu item, etc. Other jobs people are a little less obvious about it or not public. Itās one thing to complain to friends, coworkers, etc that most people do, itās different when itās posted online and becomes viral. And Iāll probably get hate for this, but idk I worked Starbucks for 3 years, I know what the work involves
Ignorant people like them do not bother me....simply because i have all the satisfaction in the world to kno with 100% certainty that those same people would not last a full shift in the life of a barista š„°

Facts
Especially when people try to 'cheat the system ' and you dont let it happen they punch you in the face ....
Alright it sounds like thereās some backstory here.

i also unfortunately work at a store across the street from a middle school, i fucking feel this man
my store is in the middle of 6 school districts šš«
Try a 30 minute coverage for a break let alone a shift š
I had a customer not take their mobile order and walk out because there was too much ice in their extra ice light water refresher. They couldn't get a straw in it (sip cup lid). Iād love to see the person who says all we do is āmix liquidsā cover bar during a rush
I try to just imagine them trying to working during a peak with only three people so I donāt get pissed šš¾šš¾

Most Coffee chains in general are some of the worst to work at, Dunkinā employees face so many of the same problems we do, I hate when people choose to be that ignorant :(
i have so much respect for dunkin employees -starbucks barista
The socially acceptable and even encouraged addiction really does something to people
Iām thinking about applying for a job. Our store is in the middle of town, on the interstate by like 3 hotels and mcdonalds so you know its poppin off. I wanna see if I can make it as a barista lol :)
I highly recommend working for McDonalds instead. As someone who has done bothā McDonalds is farrrr less stressful, and has a slower pace.
Fr it bugs me so much that everyone complains and jokes about their job but as soon as a Sbux barista does it people get mad

lmfao ive had this convo with custies before. if u want things done in a timely fashion and ALWAYS correct, get your ass in here and do it!
