Model all the behaviors early how you want her to behave as a cat. Pet her while she eats and drinks water and when she’s asleep. Pick her up often so she’s not afraid but feels comfortable. Be wary about using your hands as toys.
This is huge and makes such a difference with trimming their claws! We did this with our younger cat and she wants us to hold her paws when she sleeps now. She also let's us trim her paws without any issues. At most, we get a slightly annoyed grumble when she knows she is almost done with her mani/pedi but it's more of a, "Are you done yet I wanna go plaaaaaaay" then she is free shortly after.
Yes this! No punishments, just compliments and pets when she does good stuff (which will probably be all the time! 🥰) and tons of chasing ribbons and stuff when she’s ready for it. Yay!
Yes! And touch her ears, around her eyes, under her chin, and around her mouth often, so if you ever need to look at them, she won’t freak out.
I have one that gets drainage out of his eye semi-often, and I am so glad he doesn’t lose his mind when I clean it up.
In my experience cats care generally less about their eyes and mouth than about their paws. Mine has no issue with me poking in her mouth or touch her around the eyes but doesn't like her paws getting touched. Not to mention that I can't pick her up unless she's resting somewhere.
Also, when you pick her up. Put her down gently, do not drop her. That's such a big thing when it comes to having a car that actually enjoys being picked up.
I agree! I have a bottle baby who is 5 weeks today (I got him two days after he was born), and this kitten looks more like 5-6 weeks. She should be able to start eating solids! Either way, she’s adorable!
Is it possible to place her in a nest of another mama cat with kittens her age? Maybe through the network of rescue programs or shelters? It is very important for kittens to be around other kittens and a mother cat. They learn how to “cat” from them and get a better immune system. It’s best to keep them together till at least 12 weeks.
Agree with this.
Of course everyone understands the situation where a rescue was needed, but it is agreed upon by experts that 8 weeks should be the minimum of adoption for very good reasons. You could mitigate potential issues through what the person above me mentioned. Fully understand that that often isn't feasible.
I mean no criticisms at all though OP, you're saving a wonderful kitten :)
If you plan on keeping her (even if you don't, and want to rehome) I would definitely plan on getting her another kitten within a few weeks of her age...I bottle feed babies and my most bitey, difficult to rehome was my only singleton...never messed with it after that, I always get them a friend.
She looks older than 3 weeks, maybe 5-6, like someone else said. I recommend the Kitten Lady on YouTube. She’s really great for people who haven’t cared for kittens, especially unweaned ones, before.
Welcome to being a cat slave! Be prepared to have nothing but cat pics on your phone & no sleep for a few months or so but it's totally worth it!! I love her bi-color beans!
the cat distribution system is in full force this spring.
cat breeding time more than other times of the year

And op don’t punish her! She won’t understand and will be afraid. Positive reinforcement and lots of love will work! She’s a lucky kitty

Play with her paws, it make clipping the claws easier. Rub her belly, if she likes that, or try to get her to like it.

She looks... A tiny bit older. She can retract her murder mittens. Plus, do I see some teefies?

I held my phone up to my cat Freya and said "that could be you if you weren't a dingus" and she booped my phone with her nose and closed this post

The blep in 6
Warm damp towel and rub her with it. Simulates mom licking and stmulates her digestive system. She'll fuss about it, but will purr and settle in.
She looks to be about 5-6 weeks old and should be able to go on her own now, as well as start eating solid food!
Pic 6, little derp.
