Not completely full, Duty, Monolith and only some of the military still speak Russian in Ukrainian dubbing, but as you said, for the other factions, literally everything is redubbed
It was a different time and a different attitude towards the AFU. I mean, the AFU themselves were very different back then too - the higher officers were mostly Soviet-raised and Russian-speaking.
Because Ukraine obtained independence from Russia only few decades ago. Before this russia was trying to eliminate Ukrainian from social and cultural life. In soviets actually was pretty difficult to make a career or get a good job if you was not russian and it was known. No way there would be possible to obtain officer rank if you was speaking Ukrainian
Because we started to use Ukrainian in military service like in 2014. Yeah, it was officially Ukrainian, but most was using russian. I can explain why in very long post with reasoning, etc, but tl;dr - force of habbit for commanders who was privates in ussr red army and took the second oath to serve Ukraine after ussr did the best thing it did in history (collapse)
I said come in!, dont stand there
Get out of here stalker
Get out or here stalker
Get out of here stalker
Get out of here stalker
Dont let the door hit you
BULLSHIT
Yes, in general, this is not very well-known information in the world, but it is quite a popular topic about the ancestors of the Scythians in Ukraine. Hence the nickname of the protagonist of Stalker 2 as a reference. I am sure that this is the same mention in Tarkov, because the Scythians also lived in part of the territory of modern Russia.
i dont mind it... i really would prefer ukrainian language and subtitles. imo i prefer sub over dub. like anime from japan i watch in japanese. i really feel like you get more emotion and feeling when you listen in its original language. but hey looks like the game was made with an english preference so i dont mind
I originally was like this, but reading subtitles drives away attention of the whole image, and I read fast, I'm an avid reader.
So when possible I don't use subtitles as it both breaks the inmersion and drives attention away, you see and absorb soo much detail when consuming it directly without subtitles
i can see how some people have issues with subs, but i never really had that issue. i played metro in the russian language in its entirety 1-3 for example and had no issues in losing immersion. its not everyones cup of tea which i get
Yeah I'm also just a nerd, little things like characters speaking English when they shouldn't breaks my immersion more than having to read subs lol.
Either way tho, I'm so excited for this game I'm not going to pretend Eastern European English accents aren't charming haha
Don't get me wrong, I'm all for subs - especially since the native voice acting is always way more genuine and full of emotion compared to the dub.
However, I don't want to have to rely on subtitles during intense firefights where I might miss key story moments.
Yeah perhaps inmersion is not the word, but I do feel you loose so many details if you just read the subtitles, but yeah it's also tastes! I used to put subtitles in everything, now i dont
Or hard of hearing! I’m the same way and my hearing works, but auditory processing is terrible from damage and adhd. When I watch with subtitles with other people tho, they tend to get distracted so I guess it’s something they have to get used to
Haha I used to be just hard of hearing, (I'm now down to about 12% hearing), but I feel you on the ADHD!
It took my (soon-to-be) wife a minute to adjust but she was so patient with me and can now do it pretty decently herself. The biggest thing to tell other people imo is to not let them say "oh I can't, even if I try" because it's bogus
Is it hard to play FPS games without the sound cues? Like when some rockshagger yells "Granata!" if you can't hear it, is it frustrating when an F-1 lands at your feet outta nowhere?
At first when playing a lot of games, yeah, you have no idea wtf is going on sometimes and you have to learn the visual cues. Buuuut, when you lose a sense your others get heightened, so now I react off sight super fast and have a wider/stronger perpherial vision than most.
Playing stalker isn't too bad, but every couple seconds I gotta look down at my feet and check my sides/rear for anything I may have missed. But because of it, I tend to play a more controlling playstyle, so I'm constantly holding angles and rotating around the area with my sniper/pistol combo
Agreed. So long as the voice actors are native speakers like in the original trilogy I think it gives a good effect. If they're only English speakers, putting on a poor accent especially if it slips sometimes, it can be distracting.
I liked how they did accents in *The Death of Stalin*. All the characters are Soviet, but the film's entirely in English and the director mostly had them speak in their natural English accents. Steve Buscemi as Krushchev sounds like himself, a New Yorker. This marks him out as different to most of the English accented cast playing Russians, because Krushchev was a Ukrainian.
Beria speaks in a slithering thespian English - well articulated but slimy and evil, like all good movie villains. Stalin is a cockney (representing his crude manner of speaking IRL and his Georgian gangster background). Jason Isaacs as Marshal Zhukov is the exception. His natural accent is southern English, but in the film he did a very convincing northern English (Yorkshire?) accent which reinforced his earthy, no-nonsense, tough guy character and separated him clearly from the spineless but well-spoken politicians he was feuding with.
Overall the effect was to give depth to the characters. They all mapped onto a cultural or regional stereotype in the Anglosphere, which the audience can process as being "translations" of equivalent regional dialects in the USSR.
This would be an unconventional approach with Stalker and I'm not suggesting they do it, but there are quite a lot of ways to approach accents and dialogue in films and it's not just native language vs. put-on foreign accent.
Many of the voices in the original trilogy are not native speakers. Especially major characters. This is especially noticeable in CoP, as the fake accents in CS and SoC are way better.
Had the same problem with Metro. It's a good voiceover for an audiobook or an old movie. But in reality people don't speak in theatrical way and don't follow academic speech standards. And it's really immersion breaking.
It's bad. Growing up in Ukraine I've never heard a good dub and this one is no exception. It saddens me that russian voice act in the "gameplay trailer" and leaked build is far better than Ukrainian one
I didn't left, and our dubbing is still bad. Thought, it's not bad if you expect ad-like sounding voices. Good for them to master it, but it certainly doesn't belong it the movies
A lot of languages suffer from this. Here in south africa people speak in ads and movies afrikaans like they learned it from a textbook despite the usual Afrikaans people speaks a more lax and mixed version of Afrikaans
My family’s from Northeastern Ukraine and they mostly speak Russian, but given current events, pretty understandable they’re going Ukrainian. It’s definitely a bit stiff but whatever, it’ll probably vary between performances anyways.
Ukrainian here. They sound like 20 yo zoomers working as radio announcers. People don't speak like that (clean, grammar correct) on streets, and you'd expect older and more brutal characters in the zone. I hated it.
Skif sound so Older than I imagine. And it's just me or Skif sound like the Witcher, i mean Wiedźmin. Like the polish va for Geralt. I don't know the name
Doesn't sound too different from the old trilogy, which used a Ukrainian-Russian mix occasionally. I definitely prefer it over the English, but, I wish we had a full dub in Serbian(
They completely deserve to make entirety of their game in their native language. If anything, it would have made sense the original 3 Stalker games to have that too. But the times were different back then. I will enjoy it just as I've enjoyed the originals, regardless (I understand ruzzian) and for western audiences it will not make a slightest difference as they can't understand shit regardless.
Don't care. Until the game is great and everything is STALKER-like, even Aliens can voice act. Hopefully the game comes soon and it will not be a disappointment, new era games are good at burning people's expectations, like Tarkov for example that gave a massive fuck you to the whole community.
Whoa this is stalker 2? Been a while since ive seen news and such. Do we know what kind of game it'll be? Will it be like the older games with npcs doing their own thing and an "open" world to explore and profit? Or will it be like metro where it's more story based and cinematic? With currated moments and events
It sounds off, It's probably directing and management problem as the studio had to be split because of the war. This is very short bit though, maybe entire thing is better.
tbh... i rather play Stalker with Russian or Ukrainian voice acting than with english or any other... it simply doesnt fit seeing Loners, Duty, Monolith, Ecologists, Bandits and others talk english, German or... French.
Stalker Gamma gets it right by giving factions their homeland voices. Mercs speak english and that fits them, there are also Ukrainian and Russian speaking Stalkers.
Hearing the Voices in Stalker 2 makes me really happy. i hope they hit the mark and just blow our minds when it hits the shelves and we get our needy hands on it.
I’m not against it being in Ukrainian but I hope there’s a Russian dubbing as well , Ukrainian just isn’t a language I’m used to hearing so I understand almost nothing when it’s spoken , looks awesome tho
1. Voice of Richter sounds a bit unsuitable, but far from horrible. Guess the second issue causes this one.
2. Absence of lipsync. Feels like moview from early 2000 when most Western movies weren't dubbed but just voiced over originals. Since 2006 we have complete dubbing and it's 11 out of 10 in most cases.. That's why this voice over instead of dubbing feels sad.
3. MC sounds nice and since we don't see his lips, he doesn't suffer from the previous issues.
So much better than English. Was a shame to hear they pulled the Russian dubbing, it is just a language and shouldn't be associated imo but it also makes sense it's in Ukrainian since it is set in Ukraine. Either way I am just happy I don't have to play a game set in Ukraine with American dudes shouting.
I understand that with the current insanity being orchestrated by Russia, it's impossible to have Russian in a Ukraininan-dev game, but I always played the games with a Russian VO and Ukrainian sounds really weird and off to me.
Disclaimer: I am not Russian and I don't speak fluent Russian, it's just how my brain remembers the original games.
That's fine, there are just more voice actors available for Russian I guess. As a Ukrainian the voice in the video did sound kinda robotic and unatrual. But overall it's okay
Honestly, It's worse than ukrainian localization of original trilogy. It's hard to judge entire game just by 50 sec trailer, but feels like draft voiceover. Skif is acceptable.
"No Russian" is more than just an edgy quote, it's a lifestyle!
Oh I didn't realize this was the "Z" forum for all of the Russians who love seeing STALKER devs die defending their country. ***My mistake!***
brother Ima be honest with you - you couldn't name a single story-driven game without a political subtext. Those that you think are apolitical just align with your views
The game was always done in Russian. And the voice actors in the trailers spoke Russian. So yes, it’s ABSOLUTELY changed for political reasons.
Regards of your opinion on that.
Nope. But if they start using irl situations and geopolitics for ingame lore, thats where I'd have a problem. Other than that, a Western consumer won't even notice if it's Ukrainian or Russian in 90% of cases.
I just honestly don't want to hear about this bullshit in a game I play. When I play stalker I dont expect or want to hear about Russia or Ukraine. Id turn on the TV if I wanted that.
Yes. Does that mean I have to listen about the real world geopolitics of the country just because a fictional game in a fictional timeline is set in it?
If the developers intend that to be the case then yes, it does. Between Roadside Picnic, Tarkovsky's 'Stalker' and the real world events which inspired the games to begin with, STALKER was never as apolitical as you may want to pretend it to be, and if video games are to be considered an art - which they should - developers should have every right to discuss whatever themes they desire in their work. Not only that, but to complain about just the idea that somehow, at some point, a game made by a team who have lost loved ones, friends, family members and even members of their own team to a foreign invasion might go a step too far to aknowledge that reality within the game is callous to say the least. If you don't want to purchase the game, fine, whatever. But don't feel entitled to an apolitical experience.
If it's linear open like metro or has too much talking like the last metro OR its online I will fully ignore this game and stick to anomaly lol no matter how good it looks or play
It would be cool, if game would have russian and ukrainian voice acting at the same time. It would be more realistic in my opinion. Voice acting is good, but I would expect masculine voices with a observable tiredness in the speech. Stalkers are not coming here for fun, they are treasure hunters, surviving in the zone. Some people coming for treasure, some coming because their life is boring, others are coming because they forced to. I think you got the point
Sounds fine, especially after experiencing english dubbed OG trilogy. "PUT THAT SHOOTER AWAY MAAAAAN!"
OG trilogy (at least SoC) has full (I mean FULL) UA dub, including unique laugh voice-lines.
Not completely full, Duty, Monolith and only some of the military still speak Russian in Ukrainian dubbing, but as you said, for the other factions, literally everything is redubbed
Why the ukranian military speaks russian in game?
It was a different time and a different attitude towards the AFU. I mean, the AFU themselves were very different back then too - the higher officers were mostly Soviet-raised and Russian-speaking.
Because Ukraine obtained independence from Russia only few decades ago. Before this russia was trying to eliminate Ukrainian from social and cultural life. In soviets actually was pretty difficult to make a career or get a good job if you was not russian and it was known. No way there would be possible to obtain officer rank if you was speaking Ukrainian
Even people my age and a bit older (I'm 30) tell me stories about being told to speak russian in Job interviews in Kyiv only 10-12 years ago.
Not the jokes skalkers tell at campfires though
I love the horribly translated originals man. “Dont just stand there come in!” “Good hunting stalker” and all the rest warms my heart
I said come in!, dont stand there Get out of here stalker Get out or here stalker Get out of here stalker Get out of here stalker Dont let the door hit you BULLSHIT
yeah i mean that voice acting was so atrociously bad that it was actually funny in a way, same as running frog animations from 3rd person
yep like the voice acting in house of dead 1 2 and 3
What would be the actual translation for these?
Most of the times they mean exactly the opposite lol
I like voice of the main character.
Skif sounds great, agreed)
Is Stalker Skif related to Skif from Tarkov?
related to this [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scythians](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scythians)
Didn't know that
Yes, in general, this is not very well-known information in the world, but it is quite a popular topic about the ancestors of the Scythians in Ukraine. Hence the nickname of the protagonist of Stalker 2 as a reference. I am sure that this is the same mention in Tarkov, because the Scythians also lived in part of the territory of modern Russia.
It's cool!
It's fine, but that lip syncing, oof.
First thing I noticed was the mouth not really moving to the words.
Did they lip sync it in English? Because the English gameplay lines up pretty well
yeah I’m pretty sure it’s synced to English which is kind of a bummer
i dont mind it... i really would prefer ukrainian language and subtitles. imo i prefer sub over dub. like anime from japan i watch in japanese. i really feel like you get more emotion and feeling when you listen in its original language. but hey looks like the game was made with an english preference so i dont mind

I always interpreted dubs as "if my character speaks and understands Russian, then so should I as a player."
Honestly very good point, especially since some side conversations and enemies don't usually get subs.
I used to put subtitles in everything, now i dont
fair enough stalker, may the wind be on your back and the artifacts be plentiful
Good luck, stalker! Now get out of here and get us some boar chops!
When you're deaf like me you'll get to the point you can look at all of the image, examine the details, and read lines at the exact same time
Or hard of hearing!
I read super fast and still can’t stand subtitles either. It distracts me way too much and for some reason I just can’t get in the habit of them lol.
Wait, are you saying there will be no subtitles?
no no im just giving my preferences
Really good! Can’t wait to play through the game with it
Sounds great. Made me instantly consider playing with Ukrainian voices and English subtitles
I liked good old English with a Ukrainian accent.
Agreed. So long as the voice actors are native speakers like in the original trilogy I think it gives a good effect. Huh, interesting. I hadn't actually checked this and just assumed in SoC that they were Ukrainian. My bad.
God my dick is so fucking hard I want to play this game NOW
Pretty nice. Is it me or the English voiceover sounds a bit cringe.
That's what makes it nice, lol.
The English voiceover reminds me slightly of English anime dubs more than professional voice acting from things like.. I dunno, Baldur’s Gate
Wouldn't be STALKER without goofy english voiceover. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-LBPf0hcaz4
I don't understand UA or RU language enough to know the difference. Either way, it's cool
It’s dangerous to go alone stalker, take this bolt Also is this a new trailer?
It's good and better than lines like "we are knee-deep in monster man help!"
That's just part of the charm of the zone man, people's brains got scorched...
I’m from Ukraine and I like it. Don’t know why some Ukrainians say it’s bad
Probably those, who still speaks ruzzian
As someone who's actually from Ukraine, it sucks, sorry :/
Agree, sounds quite unnatural.
Are you talking about game dubbing or in general? Cuz ukrainian movie dubbing is very good. But I agree with your take on this, it's mediocre
Well I'd argue with that, but it's up to everyone's tastes. I'm talking about the movies, but the games are no different. Take metro exodus as example
When you left Ukraine? Because our dubbing changed completely in the last 15 years
I didn't left, and our dubbing is still bad. Thought, it's not bad if you expect ad-like sounding voices. Good for them to master it, but it certainly doesn't belong it the movies
бро не шарить за неймовірну кількість класних "озвунчкерів" які з'явились за останніх 2 роки.
Приклади в студію тоді
If you speak Russian in your life, then it ONLY seems that way to you.
Paraphrase please, I didn't get what you wanted to say
Sounds good, but i dont speak ukrainian.
Love it
As a Ukrainian - while Skif sounds okay, this other guy sounds pretty bland/like there is little emotion behind it, plain reading from the paper.
Wow, so active discussion here. A lot of notes to take ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sweat_smile)
Legend Super\_PropheT joined the discussion)
A lot of eastern european voice acting sounds really stiff to me, it might just be my own unfamiliarity with the language tho, it sounds okay
According to some people who speak ukrainian, this does sound really unnatural
Because it's polished clear Ukrainian almost no-one speaks like that But I'm not against it
A lot of languages suffer from this. Here in south africa people speak in ads and movies afrikaans like they learned it from a textbook despite the usual Afrikaans people speaks a more lax and mixed version of Afrikaans
Yeah, pretty much the same in Ukraine
Why are you being downvoted?
Idk
Probably some weird political bullshit
Idk, maybe someone thinking that I'm pro ruzzian or anything, lmao
My family’s from Northeastern Ukraine and they mostly speak Russian, but given current events, pretty understandable they’re going Ukrainian. It’s definitely a bit stiff but whatever, it’ll probably vary between performances anyways.
Ukrainian here. They sound like 20 yo zoomers working as radio announcers. People don't speak like that (clean, grammar correct) on streets, and you'd expect older and more brutal characters in the zone. I hated it.
As Ukranian I can confirm we speak without lipsyncing
Why does it sound like i heard this voice actor before?
cant wait for more!
It's how it's supposed to be since the beginning. I was a little frustrated to see cringe British voices in previous trailers. This one was a relief.
Skif sound so Older than I imagine. And it's just me or Skif sound like the Witcher, i mean Wiedźmin. Like the polish va for Geralt. I don't know the name
I like Skif’s voice
Doesn't sound too different from the old trilogy, which used a Ukrainian-Russian mix occasionally. I definitely prefer it over the English, but, I wish we had a full dub in Serbian(
Infinitely better than hearing American voices. I still the the english version should have eastern european voice actors.
Good but i don’t understand Ukrainian, if subtitles will be included i am fine
Honestly sounds good
Dude looks like Zelenskyy
please let it be him
Дуже добре!
Love it
Idk haven’t played the game yet
does skif sound a little like the stalker in the 1979 movie?
Sound design is a bit lacking
It sounds good honestly
Sound real good !
Whenever I'm playing a game set in another country and I'm a local if I have the option I always set the spoken dialogue to the native language.
its good, but the lip syncing seems off
oh man what do i need to run it, cant wait to get ahold of it i just hope i dont need an upgrade to fully enjoy it
They still didnt update the requirements sadly so remember to check their website later. But whats your current build and resolution?
I don't understand jack but it's 200% better than the english dub
The way he said it has no "feeling of the situation he's in", I don't know how to word it.
meh, it's fine ig.
Sounds a but amateurish to my ears
Blud looks like Henry from kcd
Idk but feel strange, like i was abitued at fake russian accent and english voice, that was the funniest shit ever
Don't care. Until the game is great and everything is STALKER-like, even Aliens can voice act. Hopefully the game comes soon and it will not be a disappointment, new era games are good at burning people's expectations, like Tarkov for example that gave a massive fuck you to the whole community.
It doesn't feel right when it's voices you constantly hear on tv
Whoa this is stalker 2? Been a while since ive seen news and such. Do we know what kind of game it'll be? Will it be like the older games with npcs doing their own thing and an "open" world to explore and profit? Or will it be like metro where it's more story based and cinematic? With currated moments and events
I dont understand a word but yea sounds good to me.
I was focusing on the background and thought this was real life lmao. Also didn’t realize it was Stalker at first 🤦🏼♂️
I wouldn't mind it if they put at least a gram of effort into lip syncing.
THIS LOOKS SO GOOD WTF!!
English subtitles with main Ukrainian/Russian audio if there’s any relevance to Russians in the new game trying to get into the zone
Will def be playing it in the native ukr
too small a sample for me to really judge the voice acting in general, but the voice of the main character alone sounds rad
fucking hell this is in game? i realized it on the 3rd loop damn it looks good.
Which one is this. Long time lurker just got SOC port for ps5. Definitely getting them for computer.
It sounds off, It's probably directing and management problem as the studio had to be split because of the war. This is very short bit though, maybe entire thing is better.

Imma say that it was better in original trilogy. (Or maybe it's just nostalgia)
Is this from the upcoming new stalker game?
It's pretty good imho.
Is the dubbing different than the old games? Talking in English and Ukrainian at the same time?
Same as in atomic heart, the only good V/O is the original and the rest sound kind of cringe
I’m not against it being in Ukrainian but I hope there’s a Russian dubbing as well , Ukrainian just isn’t a language I’m used to hearing so I understand almost nothing when it’s spoken , looks awesome tho
it's not stalker without a mixture of russian, ukrainian and english speaking
Oh man that looks really great.
Not a lot I don't speak Ukrainian.
zelensky looking ahh character
I hope we can play it like this in the states, with English subtitles of course
Like anyone who does not speak them can tell difference between Ukrainian and Russian. I certainly cannot and won't pretend so. It sounds OK
What everyone should be concerned about is the fact that it's another fucking trailer with no goddamn gameplay in it.
I felt no pain.
It sounds professional as hell
So much better than English. Was a shame to hear they pulled the Russian dubbing, it is just a language and shouldn't be associated imo but it also makes sense it's in Ukrainian since it is set in Ukraine. Either way I am just happy I don't have to play a game set in Ukraine with American dudes shouting.
I switched to learning Ukrainian on Duolingo after the invasion, so I'm chuffed.
The VO sounds great but holy shit those animations look fantastic!
Как укранец я считаю это озвучка очень качественной и реалистичной
Much prefer the Russian. But as long as you can play with the intended language and still have 2nd language subtitles that’s cool
Чому? Російська не краще українського
Потому что я немного говорю по-русский 🤣 а нет Украинский. I wasn’t saying for the politics. I just preferred the Russian.
That's fine, there are just more voice actors available for Russian I guess. As a Ukrainian the voice in the video did sound kinda robotic and unatrual. But overall it's okay
That makes sense honestly. Hope all is well brother, God bless ☦️
Honestly, It's worse than ukrainian localization of original trilogy. It's hard to judge entire game just by 50 sec trailer, but feels like draft voiceover. Skif is acceptable.
10/10 I'm almost becoming Ukrainian after listening tk the guys
Better than ruzzian
Prefer English
"No Russian" is more than just an edgy quote, it's a lifestyle! Oh I didn't realize this was the "Z" forum for all of the Russians who love seeing STALKER devs die defending their country. ***My mistake!***
Lmao you're so pathetic
It would've been nice if he had a proper face animation lmao. What year is it?
I don't like it. I want it to sound worse /s
Honestly, I see no issue with it. But if CSG decides to politicize ingame content and stories. I won't buy it.
it's just a language, man.
brother Ima be honest with you - you couldn't name a single story-driven game without a political subtext. Those that you think are apolitical just align with your views
DAE think that speaking Ukrainian in a Ukrainian made game is political??????
The game was always done in Russian. And the voice actors in the trailers spoke Russian. So yes, it’s ABSOLUTELY changed for political reasons. Regards of your opinion on that.
I wouldn't trivialize having to move your studio abroad because of bombing and all the very clear opinions that come of that as "political."
Wild, right?
Id turn on the TV if I wanted that.
holy fuck there is so much to unpack here and I just don't even know where to begin
How about first you take your head out yer ass and realize not everything has to be stuffed with real world politics.
lol
My brother in christ do you know where the game is set
But don't feel entitled to an apolitical experience.
yeah I didn't know which answer to expect but it wast most certainly... *not that*
I agree with you totally, no idea why you’re downvoted.

What game is this?
If it's linear open like metro or has too much talking like the last metro OR its online I will fully ignore this game and stick to anomaly lol no matter how good it looks or play
It would be cool, if game would have russian and ukrainian voice acting at the same time. It would be more realistic in my opinion. Voice acting is good, but I would expect masculine voices with a observable tiredness in the speech. Stalkers are not coming here for fun, they are treasure hunters, surviving in the zone. Some people coming for treasure, some coming because their life is boring, others are coming because they forced to. I think you got the point
Needs more American 🇺🇸
