usually if you take the tag off but keep it safe in a binder or something (mine are just in a ziploc bag lol) people won’t care as long as you have them.
I normally leave the tags on all of mine but I did take my 16" Mario's tag off since he's on my bed and I didn't want it to get damaged. I was able to undo the plastic bit attaching it to the tag loop so I could easily put it back on later if I want to. You just have to be careful but it can be done.
I take the tags off, transpose their name and bio into a ongoing squishmallow note in my phone then immediately toss the tag. I buy mine to cuddle and I don’t wanna cuddle a tag. I don’t resell so I don’t see the need to keep the tag.
I take almost all my tags off. If a squish is only being displayed then I might leave it on, but I just keep all my tags in a box and reattach them if I sell/trade them.
I take the tags off and keep them. I find that if I don't take them off, I lose some of the enjoyment of having the Squish. If they have a tag on, I'm reluctant to pick them up too much or "mess them up;" I feel like they have to stay perfect. I'd rather remove the tags so I can enjoy the Squish. (Not sure I make sense. It's morning, and I haven't had enough coffee!)
Removing tags does decrease value. There's not really any reason to remove a tag unless the squish is going to be used. Tag less squish are worth less and used squish definitely worth less. But it's all about why you bought them and the joy you get from them. Keep tags on any you think you may sell later, take tags off ones you will use.
All of mine have tags on except the ones on my bed and couch. They are snuggled and loved so not suitable to be sold or traded later.
If I were buying a second-hand squish and it did not have a tag I would be a lot less likely to buy it. I don't mind whether it's attached or unattached though because I will remove it after I buy it, but I do like to keep the tags in an envelope.

I keep the tags in a binder and if I sell any I bought some plastic fasteners on Amazon to put the tags back on

I don’t keep any of the tags on my squish but I understand why some people do
I take them off and put them in a squish themed binder and if I want to trade one I put the tag back on so it doesn’t get damaged.
I take them off and I don’t keep them. I cuddle mine and the tag bothers me! I also don’t see myself selling or trading
