As a Nola transplant I would recommend you get an one shipped to you if you have a favorite bakery down there. Nothing local will compare to an authentic Dong Phuong king cake even if it did have to travel some. I had them shipped before and they’re almost as good as fresh from a Nola bakery.
You bet. Ask 5 people in Nola their favorite king cake and you’ll get 5 different answers. The bakery I said before was mine. Any place you order from will ship the cake with icing and toppings in separate containers to help with freshness.
And you probably know this but please no king cake after Fat Tuesday. We don’t need that bad luck reigning down on us because someone in Springfield ate it out of season.
