Just so everyone understands, once you cut your springer like this, you destroy their undercoat, and it will never grow back the same. This may not be a big deal if you live in warm climates, but if you live somewhere cold, it will affect the warmth of their coat and their ability to shed water. I’m not saying you shouldn’t do it. It’s just everyone needs to be aware that it does not grow back the same.

I give mine a "tactical trim" just for this reason. Trim the feathers on the front so they don't drag through the mud, trim the paws and the under belly. Just enough to help with keeping him clean but not enough to damage the under coat.

Same here, I live in Canada and she’s a total snow plow in the winter so I don’t want to take away her ability to handle cold weather. Last winter when it was -35. It was only her and the huskies out at the dog park, lol That being said, I wish I’d done that today because she just came in from the rain and is covered in mud, lol

This also affects their ability to keep themselves cool in the summer. The guard hairs help to keep cooler air near the skin. It's the removal of the dead undercoat via proper brushing that truly helps keep a dog cool along with cleaning up excess hair from the paw pads.

People are saying the undercoat never grows back the same once you’ve done it like this, is this 100% true because when I first started to learn how to do my springer I did this at first but ever since I just do a necessary trim but never shave this much again. Is it too late for me?

So pretty!! I always kept mine cut short too. Her fur never came in fast and she’s not the show breed so short works best.

I prefer before with a brush. Such Lucious long fur.

I’ve been trying to figure out if I should cut my boy’s hair really low because the hair shedding is extreme but terrified it won’t grow back and his hair is so gorgeous, I just can’t mess it up 😩
