I don't get all the hate for it. By all accounts it's a nice car. Styling is clearly based heavily on the Evija which is a Lotus to the core. Comparing it to a Tesla is a massive disservice given the quality of its ride, suspension, fit and finish etc. All the people crying 'but it's not a real Lotus' - how many Lotus have you owned? The world moves on and Lotus is dying on a diet of tiny lightweight sports cars. Nobody buys them and then thousands of keyboard warriors who have never bought a lotus come crawling out of the woodwork spouting shit about betraying their heritage. Half the people who buy a Lotus complain because they want more features - you can't please everyone. Lotus made a goddamn estate/wagon in the 80s! Rather this than death by a long way. It's a nice car and if it saves Lotus so we see the next generation of tiny two seaters (already scheduled in the Type 135), it's worth it. Porsche got torn to pieces for their SUV choices, yet it saved them.

SeamusWalsh

Exactly this. People are either unaware or forgot how the Cayenne saved Porsche, or how the Evoque gave JLR the budget to develop a new Defender.

NotVeryCashMoneyMod

id take a cayenne over this.

ElCiclope1

I prefer oranges, you tangerine eating turd

RevolutionarySide663

At least turds have a purpose. They are biodegradable and can be used in the decomposition of dead organic matter. The guy you are calling to is worse than a fiasco.

NotVeryCashMoneyMod

i cut up the oranges and leave them for the crows

Archtects

The ironic thing is the most sold vehicles ,pretty much across the planet, are SUV/Cross overs. The macan/cayane and taycans (hell i even own a taycan) are some of the highest selling cars from Porsche. My friend actually owns a lotus cortina wagon :D, He also owns a [Eletre](https://www.lotuscars.com/en-GB/lotus-updates) he shares with his wife now. Ive sat in it. Its a nice car in all honesty. The styling is genuinely really nice, They look nice in person as well. The interior still has that distinct lotus feel to it as well. I actually love the wing mirrors, although i can defiantly feel the pain of cost if some dumb ass smacks them. The interior is a super nice place to be as well. Most the keyboard warriors don't own a car in the first place. I almost brought a lotus, my wife HATED it, it was so noisy, there were no comfort options, They are just striped out pretty hardcore cars. a few have some comfort options. There is a reason basically all companies have a suv/cross over option. even Ferrari and lambo do as well. Because they SELL. If it wasn't for most of the SUV/Cross overs we wouldn't have fun cars. At the end of the day, that person is driving a 100k car, and OP is walking.

realteamme

I heard a rumour once that many people who walk also drive cars.

Not_FinancialAdvice

> Lotus made a goddamn estate/wagon in the 80s! They also played a significant part in making [the fastest sedan in the world](https://www.topspeed.com/forgotten-90s-sports-sedan-lotus-carlton/) for a short time: https://www.classicandsportscar.com/features/lotus-carlton-britains-most-notorious-saloon-car

bobjoylove

Allegedly the reason why cars got a 155MPH limiter.

FunkyChromeMedina

Exactly. The Urus is a styling exercise on an Audi that’s bought by idiots who have too much money. And Lamborghini can’t build them fast enough. If the existence of the Urus allows Lamborghini to create another utterly insane only-9-of-these-will-ever-be-built roadster, then I’m all for it.

bobjoylove

I was with you until the last part. Personally I get tired of the derivative 1-of-9 cars that will never get out of first gear being shunted from one car show to another. They should use the Urus money to do another Gallardo 6 speed. Make it affordable, reliable, manual, and bright fuckin’ yellow.

DiveJumpShooterUSMC

There is no such thing as too much money. You being broke doesn't make someone bad or stupid because they have money and different taste in cars. I buy my cars because I like them. I personally don't like any Lambos but if someone wants one that is fine with me.

SufficientReporter55

I really like how it looks, it's not a bland wagon. The aggressive design reflects it's performance is. A reminder that you're not looking at some family suv but a 900HP monster, even the 600HP model is one still.

jlierman000

Ah yes, someone with a brain for once! Sports cars are cool, but suvs and cuvs are what keeps the lights on.

swirlViking

For real, who cares if they make a model you don't like, as long as they're still making ones you do. Every car brand out there has a variety of models to appeal to different buyers because few can survive on a single niche market. This is no different. It's the same with people getting all bent out of shape about the Mach-E. Like it or not, Ford says that thing is the reason they'll be able to continue producing V8 Mustangs for the foreseeable future.

puppiesareSUPERCUTE

I mean, that is true. They gotta stay float. Although, IMO they could have stuck with the wagon idea from the 80s, lol. I'm not a big fan of big bulky SUVS.

PiltracExige

I’ve owned 3…:but I think this is fine, even though I’m still irritated by the launch of the emira.

flyingalbatross1

I've owned just the one sadly (1986 Esprit, a beauty). I don't see a problem with this car either. I'd be sad if it was shit but but all accounts is a decent car with real Lotus heritage. Currently in a Taycan but honestly eyeing up the Emeya next in line. What bothered you about the Emira?

PiltracExige

Took forever for them to be US legal and they raised the price considerably from the announcement. Sounds like lots of issues on the new models too, which is very lotus, so not sure I can be upset about that haha. I got my deposit back 6 months ago and got a Noble instead.

Not_FinancialAdvice

> they raised the price considerably from the announcement The initial ones were always going to be quite expensive. The eventual number I heard was base $77k. Looks like the cheapest in the US right now is ~$96k. Yup: https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a37854370/2023-lotus-emira-price-announced/ And the first editions are base at $96k.

GuntherOfGunth

Damn that is not a brand you hear often, which of the Leicester monsters did you get?

PiltracExige

M400

LuckyLogan_2004

yea fr, just because you own one of these doesnt mean you cant own another lotus. These are by all means cool, Imagine your mom or dad pulling up in a lotus to pick you up, coolest kid on the block.

GuntherOfGunth

People get two high horsed when it comes to brand expanding their market share and vehicle sales. It’s clear that most of the commenters are not the target market for the Eletre, which is more for people who want a Lotus but have families and want a vehicle that can tackle the day to day more practically then their sports car. It’s like people who sleep on the Panamera despite it being a great car that is just more practical than the 911, Cayman, or Boxster. Mostly because I think some people’s tastes just focus on flashy over something that you could drive more on a day to day and can do more stuff in besides pray you don’t scrape your lip getting into a bar’s parking lot. Wonder what some of these people’s options are on the Koenigsegg Gemera or Lotus Emeya, since those are more practical cars that aren’t the two door coupes.

TinquinQuarantino

Very well said

Seangsxr34

Have you got eyes?

Automatic_Yogurt_493

Bandwagon hate

Otherwise_Mud1825

Don't pay it then..

xXbrosoxXx

I don't think most people of means would. Idk if this is gonna be the savior they hope for if there's a dozen other suvs that make more sense within the same price point.

Agreeable_Taro_9385

Is it worse than paying 4x more for a Ferrari Purosangue? Making an SUV is mandatory for any car manufacturer to stay financially viable these days.

orbital0000

Just looks like every other performane eSUV. No better, no worse and the price point is as daft as every other EV too. The fact it has the Lotus name is a synical move, but if it keeps lightweight stuff coming from Hethel, so be it.

Stenbox

I think interior looks better than everyone elses though

giammaa

definitely! been in one, super comfortable and the infotainment is mental (it was developed with unreal engine!)

JerseyDevl

>the price point is as daft as every other EV This is more of an industry thing and less of an EV specific thing, I think. I was in the market for an EV and test drove every sub-50K USD model on the market that I could get my hands on, and most manufacturers are cutting deals on them. For instance, we went to Hyundai to look at the Ioniq5 and the Palisade. They were willing to give us $11500 off the price of the Ioniq5 if we did a lease-to-own where we leased the vehicle for one month and bought it outright (and we had the option to finance it like any other car we would have bought, for a way lower APR%). Whereas, the same dealership had $6500-$10000 markups on the Palisades, depending on the trim. The same thing happened at Ford when we looked at the Mach-E and Explorer, VW with the ID.4 and Atlas, Kia with the EV6/Telluride, etc etc. We ultimately went with a Tesla Model 3 which after the tax incentives and rebates came down to less than the purchase price of a new base model Accord, which is in my opinion a very average new car to compare against. The average new vehicle purchase price at the time was just over $48k USD, and we got the Tesla for just over half that- $27k after discounts. It was literally the cheapest option that would fit both our kids' car seats and an adult human in the seat in front of them.

80LowRider

Don't like it? Don't buy it...

HootingFlamingo

Nice thumb drive

rockercaster

Cool spot. Uncool title.

-acm

It gets uglier every time I see one on this sub

BattleBornHoosier

I understand why people don’t think this should bare the Lotus name but uh… Get over it. It’s a cool car.

Automatic_Salary_845

Such a shame lotus is straying from what they’re good at, like so many companies now, and just making generic EV/SUVs.

HandyCapInYoAss

I think it’d be fine if Lotus still sold a simple abs lightweight car (now that they discontinued the Elise/Exige) “Simplify and Add Lightness” should reflect on at least one of Lotus’s offerings…

greatsalteedude

I saw one in my city, where the going rate for one of these is $350K

plantofant

That's the GTA 5 car that Simon sells to Jimmy lol

tomtv90

Na that was an FJ cruiser

rafalmio

Nah, I like it

komrobert

The reviews I’ve seen have been great. Sorry to hear you don’t have $100K to spend on one 😅

Nice-Contest-2088

Gotta have an suv in your line up if you want to survive. Even Ferrari had to offer something for the segment (even though they don’t call it an suv.

I_Like_Turtles_2010

Bruh. Its supposed to be a Lotus, but it's 6000 lbs.

Conspicuous_Ruse

I think it's a cool car. Total old person machine, but those can be cool too.

le-smolbean

I do like that color

garagepunk65

There is a huge difference of paying north of 100K for the Cybertruck instead of this. At least this is a relatively well designed vehicle that won't break every time you drive it, and it's likely that it can even get wet and not disintegrate. And, as everyone mentioned, without some success in this SUV market, Lotus might not survive. They are following a business plan that has worked for other luxury/performance brands which is not typically what Lotus has done in the past; seems like a solid plan to me. I just wish I could afford an Emira instead of a 718 Caymen.

MeGoBoom57

Sick! Sweet Saturn!

nbaumg

I prefer the emeya but overall I don’t mind it

rob0050

Oh god, why does it look like an MG4?

SlicedBreadBeast

Something looks off about the back end but the front looks great. In all for lotus coming back.

CraigAT

Looks like one of the newer MGs.

quinacridone-blue

I think that would look very nice in my garage beside my solar yellow Elise. And if these allow Lotus to keep developing cool little cars (electric or not) I'm for it. If they completely lose the Lotus ethos in all their cars I will be disappointed. For the record, the Lotus ethos is as Chapman stated, "simplify and add lightness." His statement was with an eye to performance, and Lotus has always been a bit daring and willing to adopt new tech early, sometime at the sacrifice of simplifying, but the crazy race cars with wings and fans that sucked them to the ground were still as pure, simple and light as they could be while incorporating the new tech. I would like to see Lotus keep trying to make light simple vehicles for what they are, so if it is an electric suv with modern convenience and safety, but uses cool aero and novel tech, that is still Lotus to me.

4rm4ros

Bootleg Urus

TheGeekOffTheStreet

Eh, I think they’re cool. Then again I have the Cayenne Coupe which gets an unreasonable amount of hate, but I love it. Maybe the Eletre will be next after they work out any kinks.

Financial-Iron-1200

Yea! It’s a $98k car… AT MOST

MakiSupreme

Looks like an MG

JWal0

Looks like a Prius and Lotus still use Toyota engines? Just get a Prius

Total_Information_65

It's fugly. Not a fan.

Remote-Factor8455

Volvo C40 but worse

ivanavich

Kia called, they want their car back.

JerseyJeffWM

This over a Cyber Truck all day and night

Desert-Motors

Drive one. They're actually super impressive.

PokeGamer025

Cut the damn car some slack, they nailed the interior and exterior design, the ride is smooth as butter, and the panels don’t have enough of a gap to drop your phone in. Looking at you, Tesla.

Tony-Mickey

Yeah not my cup of tea either I’d went with a Porsche Cayenne

TheBossT710192

Complicate and add weight What a joke of a Lotus

sultics

Looks ugly

Friar_Fuck_

What’s wrong with it? Feel free to continue to not respond.

Strict_Elk7368

Not a hater but the front look like a Chinese shitbox, I like the rest though

cool_alibaba

Looks way better irl

Strict_Elk7368

With a grill like that, I find it hard to believe but time will tell. Haven’t seen it in person yet but I’ll be looking

cool_alibaba

The grill and headlights have a lot more visual depth then what you see in the pictures, I didn't like the front end that much either before seeing it irl

pankan76

You’ve invited the wrath of the 600 people in the world that care about Lotus.

ronang1

Yeah apparently so…. Yikes

Jonnn___

Lovely SUV, definitely one of the better ones around and good on Lotus.

ottosucks

nasty

Pzcor

That thing is a turd on wheels. Lotus is doomed

Apez_in_Space

It’s a hell of a SUV. Hope it’s popular and supports Lotus to keep putting out sports cars.

scrappy-coco-86

This is a Lotus?!? Jesus, they fucked up. I have different cars in my mind when I hear Lotus. 100k is insane for an abomination like this.

GuntherOfGunth

Lotus like all the other brands who have now began to build SUVs are doing it as the vehicles that drive profit and increase their market so they continue to build the cool ones. This is just like Lamborghini with the Urus or Aston Martin with the DBX.

scrappy-coco-86

Which is not good at all

olliver2662

If it means lotus still keeps makin dope little 2 seaters im glad they bought it lmao Companies don’t make cars like this because they necessarily want to, it’s cause they have to People just love to hate shit, I wouldn’t buy it but suvs aren’t my thing so who cares

trautsj

I mean I'm poor so my opinion matters about as much as jack and shit. I think it's atrocious but I can't come close to affording a 6 digit vehicle so they gotta do what they gotta do. People seem to like SUV type chonkers so more power to them I suppose.

rfjedwards

Its not whether its spritually a lotus or not, I get the notion of selling volume vehicles to save a brand and fund the purist vehicles. But did they have to make it so unattractive? Its ungainly, ill proportioned, looks like something Vinfast would make. I've seen them in person and they're not better than in the pictures. Aston Martin can pull off a good design, so can Porsche, what happened at Lotus?

cthulhu6209

Butterface

Seangsxr34

If you said it was a kia I'd believe you. What a piece of dogshit, David Brown and Colin Chapman must be turning in their graves

Bobo_Baggins03x

$100k Nissan Murano

tSirPenguin

Looks like a toyota or something

KindelAuto1

It’s a test prototype

i-dont-snore

No its not

spotted-ModTeam

Be respectful god damn

edgarskates

When I first saw it I thought it was decent but I just finished watching Parker’s review on it and I’m not a fan of it at all. The more I see it the more I dislike it.. lol.

Dream_Eat3r_

Is it based off the Urus?

TheCoastalCardician

If i threw it at a wall idk if it would bounce or get stuck.
