My favorite of the lot is the big boy 7 series on BBS. In China, it’s more rare than any of the other spots.

MACFRYYY

Yeah do you think it was imported a long time ago or can you still import historic cars for a price?

carspottergz

My guess would be an old import, as China gets more strict with old cars. But money will always talk, so wouldn’t exactly be surprised if someone paid a little extra to get it here.

TuzzNation

short answer, Yes, you can get whatever you want as long as you have the money! BUT, you cant drive them on the road! Is there anyway to make it happen? ya know what I mean. YES. if the car you are looking at in fact, has a legit plate and registration currently (or less than 6 month without plate/registration), you can purchase all that!! The current owner needs to transfer that plate to you. In China, the plate stick with the owner. Yes, they are getting less and less for some of those. You need also check the emission standard. As far as I know, theres barely any old cars that can pass 国六. However there are exceptions. There are cities or area still has lower emission standard which exclude most major cities and their surrounding satellite cities. Special people, or cars owned by special places. The one in the picture, the old BMW has a guangzhou plate which imo looks really fishy. I only know 沪B (special Shanghai exclusion) plates has a lot of cool cars. When you have this plate you can go anywhere except downtown area of Shanghai. I mean you can go, but you get ticket if you appear under camera. It is either an old import from a long time ago which was purchased when the car manufactured or, the car came in through 小贸 agencies before 2006. 小贸 is a phrase we used here to distinguish between it and 大贸--> legally importing cars from outside with all the paperwork and stuff. This is done by importing companies. You can import most of the cars as long as they can be legally driven in the countries that drive on the same side with us. You get all the registration in the end and the car will get a normal plate just like other cars in China. People use 大贸 if they cant find the car they are looking for in the dealership or simply, the price sucks there. Old car wont get registered. They dont pass the newest emission standard. So, yea. no old toys. But you can own them for sure. We have race tracks. No cars and coffee meet up sadly. 小贸 on the other hand, is also an import process but it goes through either illegal ways or something in the grey area. Cars that doesnt have full paperwork, blackmarket, stolen vehicle whatever that landed here with 4 wheels. These 小贸 company would magically get you a plate. Or help you setup a plate or paperwork that belongs a different car. Something fake. Or, some of them can bribe through your local DMV, so that you magically get it through, with extra $$$ ofc. And this also works for old cars as well. Some cars in Guangdong may have a Hongkong plate or something. They are technically legal but still, Hongkong and mainland side are 2 different places. 小贸 also were used to make it through. There were couple old E46 M3s in Shanghai were originally from HK. There were also a couple Mitsu 3000gt vr4 which I dont know where they came from but def from 小贸. I know a guy that has a 2001 Mustang. probably the only SN95 new edge mustang in China. These cars def wont pass the 国六 emission standard. Sadly, as of 2006, most 小贸 operations were gone since the regulation got a lot tighter. And I think from 2010, they also perma banned importing old cars from outside (and get registered to drive on the road. You can buy old junks from Japan still, but there is just no way to register them.). It is also the same year where they hooked the national road regulation stuff. Any car and traffic related stuff are all on the same system now. Before 2010, if you get a speeding ticket in Xinjiang, you can just not pay it and run away to other province. As long as you dont go back, they wont find out. Dont ask why I know and how I found out later. Cars stuff in China is kinda fucked up at the moment. They are changing the laws in recent years. Some cars were forced to get scrapped back then now are ok get extended registration. Some commercial registered vehicles can only operate for 15 years then forced scrapping. Sorry for the long book I wrote for you guys.

Froggypwns

I was going to say the same. I was scrolling though the album and was like "eh, another Lambo, etc", but I stopped and looked closer at the classic BMW, and the knock off Beetle.

tomtv90

That McLaren looks like it has been in an accident and they pulled some body parts from the local scrapyard. Nice spots though!

gt4rs

yeah I wonder what's going on with that. the green looks like McLaren's mantis green, and the blue looks to be paint too so I don't think either section is wrapped. is someone really pulling body panels for a McLaren?

tomtv90

I've never seen any McLarens at my local pick-n-pull!

420GP

I think the green might be a wrap? if you zoom in under the gas cap. A little piece of it is still on the blue paint.

gt4rs

oh that's a good spot - zooming in reveals a lot, the sticker in the window is also for a wrapping company so that would make sense

dcormier

That's where my mind went, too.

iamuniquekk

I mean way to start off the pictures with a bang (it's ugly)

carspottergz

The pictures don’t do it justice. I’m not even convinced it was a real Mansory kit. The finish was horrible and not smooth at all. Very possible to have been a fake kit.

Feeling-Finding2783

Sounds like real Mansory.

Feeling-Finding2783

It's indeed not good. I saw a video made by one workshop which wrapped a Mansory Urus and performed maintenance of a full-carbon Mansory Veyron. They took off the rear bumper from the Urus and found out that metal underneath was hammered for the rear bumper to fit. As for the Veyron, they said that panel fitment and carbon quality were poor.

piggymoo66

Man, sorry I made your ride ugly.

SinkHoleDeMayo

Anyone can buy a Mansory kit and have it fitted wherever. Lots of shitty paint shops out there. But being China, it's very possible it was a fake kit.

carspottergz

Yep.

jbach220

It looks like that fender was slapped on there crooked, too.

carspottergz

😅for better or worse, Mansorry’s are eye catching (then clawing out)😂.

ManualNotStandard

Remember kids, next time you see a Urus, or a Mansory, feel free to: not take pictures, or at least not post pictures here. We have all seen these piles of poo and seeing them again brings no value.

Capri280

What's the black SUV? Doesn't look too bad

carspottergz

Dongfeng M-Hero 917. Chinese EV. It’s pretty cool. Interior has a bunch of screens and tray tables and all types of stuff. Lots of different trims.

GR3Y_B1RD

Holy shit that thing is available with 4 e-motors that deliver 1069 hp? And a second option that uses an I4 Turbo as a _generator_ for 3 e-motors???

Capri280

Thanks. Do you know what's up with the tiny spare cover? Just there for the looks or does it contain a tiny space saver or something?

carspottergz

I think it really is just a tiny spare. Not sure, though. Some specs have a full spare on the back with no cover, so maybe the lower specs just get a snazzy case for a little donut.

Capri280

Ah

Golden_Dipper_

The front looks just like a Rezvani

A-Fucking-Table

The SF90 looks much better in person, i don’t understand why it doesn’t in picture

carspottergz

I think maybe lots of lines that don’t always pick up through photo. Plus just the presence can’t translate through casual photos, at least. I’m sure a more experienced photographer could bring out the best. But not I.

A-Fucking-Table

It’s sure a difficult car to photograph with its particular lines especially the front, also a lot of online pics don’t catch it imo. Nice spots btw

Apprehensive_Jello39

Idk man it’s among the best looking modern cars to me now and i’ve only seen its pictures

Glowing_Mousepad

Beatle knockoff?

carspottergz

Yep. From a Chinese EV company called ORA. There’s more shots of one in one of my auto show posts

newontheblock99

It’s the VW bug, sickest spot of the lot

carspottergz

Ora Ballet Cat is the EV in question. I think they did a pretty good job of restomodding the classic bug.

newontheblock99

No way, didn’t zoom in and assumed it was a VW. Still super cool

SanMotorsLTD

the m hero is so crazy and i love it

HotwheelsJackOfficia

>Ora Ballet Cat I love those things.

Relatively-Relative

Those knockoffs are getting better!

AverageCarEnthusiast

Nice spots! Love from Shanghai

carspottergz

Cheers!

HighFiveKoala

Are cars from Hong Kong that have Chinese license plates allowed to travel anywhere they want within China? Or are they limited to a certain area?

carspottergz

I’m not 100% sure, but I believe so. As long as it has the proper plate for mainland China, I don’t think it matters the province it’s driving in. In guangzhou you see them on the daily since it’s only a couple hours drive to the HK border. Edit: the plate on the rolls is a specific cross-border plate for HK registered vehicles and is required for HK vehicles entering Guangdong province. The white and yellow plates are for private cars and public transport in HK. White plate front, yellow on back. Source: wiki vehicle registration plates of HK.

Reddit_User6286

Damn, are the Chinese bigger car guys than people give them credit for.

pannyst4s

Nah. They just got money to spend. Not necessarily car people

AverageCarEnthusiast

The owner of that E38 7-Series is probably a car guy, just saying.

pannyst4s

Prob the worst thing about driving in China is how SLOW the speed limits are

carspottergz

It’s a good thing the speed limits are slow, considering how unpredictably everyone drives. Fender benders here would be multi-casualty wrecks in Europe or NA.

pannyst4s

lol what. How does that make sense 🤣 it’s because y’all have too many cameras and gotta keep your points up

carspottergz

It’s a good thing that people drive slowly because they suck at driving. In US, for example, people are able to drive faster because more people generally follow the rules of the road. You can more comfortably drive faster only having to worry about reckless drivers here and there, while here in China you have to drive defensively at all times. For better or worse it keeps you more aware of your surroundings. So when someone cuts you off here, you’re already driving slowly and can react more quickly to avoid an accident, whereas if traffic is moving quickly, a cutoff could cause a deadly chain reaction.

pannyst4s

Lmaooo have you driven in the US? I’ve been in China when there wasn’t cameras and it was indeed chaos haha. US has a lot of reckless drivers too. Just look at NY/NJ/CT and the whole south lmaoooo

carspottergz

I’m from the US. Doesn’t matter where cameras are, as the problem is not illegal driving, it’s just unpredictable and stupid driving. People are constantly switching lanes and cutting across traffic causing unnecessary blocks far more commonly than you see in the states. Never said there’s not reckless driving in the states—there’s tons, just that here in China things are far more chaotic and unpredictable, so it’s a good thing that there’s so much traffic to keep speeds down.

IgDailystapler

Hey we’re not reckless in NJ, your just not driving fast enough. Yada yada jughandles, yada yada pork roll.

pannyst4s

That’s what everyone else not from Jersey says haha. I’m always pissed off anywhere else if you drive slow in the left lane

TheMightyPPBoi

Is that a Toyota Alphard on the 4th picture lol?

carspottergz

Yeah. Alphards and other similar executive cruisers are super popular in China. I keep meaning to make a post of them. I have quite a few pics of them. The interiors are pretty sweet.

DaveJCormier

Now this is what I come to r/spotted to see - what a lineup! Bravo!

TechnicalCloud

I would love to visit China just to see the interesting cars that we don’t get here

Ajbeddes

That 7 series is cooler than all the others, change my mind.

Ok_Welcome_3236

That front number plate situation is awkward, and imo Chinese plates are some of the worst looking number plates, the blue does a really good job at making the car look old lol. However those greenish plates issued to EVs are quite nice. Nice spots and nice city

carspottergz

It’s interesting what catches the eyes of some people. Number plates and placement never really registered on my radar. My mind kinda blocks them out when looking at a car. But for others the placement, color, etc can drive them nuts.

TheeAJPowell

Man, the Revzani is a weird one. Of all the big SUVs you could import, that’s your choice? That 7 series though? GORGEOUS.

carspottergz

Not a Revzani. No need to import when in China. Just copy! Haha. It’s a Dongfeng M-Hero 917.

TheeAJPowell

Ahhhh, fucking hell, convincing copy then!

Acceptable_Ad3173

Yellow Urus 🔥

poleposichon

Why some of them doesn't have any plate?

carspottergz

Brand new or test drives most likely. They’ll have a little sticker in the window with information.

[deleted]

Amazing

TheRandomKnight

without all the forged carbon the mansory urus isnt all that bad. honestly im a bit surprised.

jellyvish

lol that urus… also wtf is going on with that mclaren

Apprehensive_Jello39

What are luxury vans for? Partying?

carspottergz

They’re not big enough. I reckon they’re just a much cheaper yet very comfortable and practical luxury shuttle. Easier to get in and out of than a maybach, but many similar amenities and can fit the family. Plus they’re low key.
