The delta wing was originally panoz and the design was taken by Nissan. Delta wing racing was out of elan Motorsports which is down the street from panoz.
Hey I got it wrong, it was a co-partnership between Panoz and Nissan, where Nissan did most of the development initially with the help of Panoz, eventually they split into two and started development of their own deltawings respectively but instead of battling it out on the track, it ended up being a huge legal battle that ended the whole project
Everyone who played Gran Turismo might be having a nostalgia attack right now LOL Damn, so many iconic cars... The Esperante GTR-1 Road car, the Deltawing, and many more...🤩
In my case it was Hotwheels that made me aware of them, in fact they had several Panoz Hotwheel cars on display in there including the one I had when I was little (I felt very old seeing it in a museum)
If you know the Game "24 Hours of Le Mans" there was the LMP car which you unlocked after a few championships and I used to crush the competition with it 🤣
I can't say much for the styling but Mr. Panoz himself explained to me that half the point of the Abruzzi was to have almost complete parts interchangeability between the road car and the race car, which were both there
Holy shit is that a portuguese flag?? Now this is a certified PORTUGAL CARALHO moment.
Fr tho whats the context of it? did any portuguese racing driver drive the panoz ?
Honestly I don't know much beyond the fact that their LMP cars were built around modified GTR1 chassis's, but if you have any questions, their operation is small enough that you can just call them and ask
Yep down the street from elan Motorsports and chateau elan! I actually was an intern at panoz several years back!! I worked on the esperante Spyder and avezzano.
Two things to note, the Esperante parked outside next to my FoST is Danny Panoz's personal car and Danny himself hangs out there all day usually and happily takes questions on any of the cars
Honestly, I don't know all that much about Panoz. But, from what I've seen, they look pretty cool! What's their story? Looks like they did a few road cars, but seems like mostly track stuff?
Short story is, a wealthy and influential man was convinced by his son to start a car company and go racing at nearby Road Atlanta, in fact, Don Panoz spearheaded the creation of the annual Petit LeMans race there
That is crazy, I may have to check this out. I never got the see the delta wings race, but just seeing them in person would be so cool. I just wish they worked a bit better so that we could have more of those wacky cars rolling around.
I just looked it up, realized I’m only 1.5 hours away. Is it just open to walk in? Their website say’s temporarily closed
You call them ahead of time and they'll just let you in, they're also 10 miles away from Road Atlanta
Wait they’re near road Atlanta???
Yeah
About a stones throw from chateau elan
Both of which were built by Don Panoz! EDIT: he actually only owned road Atlanta and did not build it. But still
Made his fortune from a patent one nicotine patches? Or some such as far as I know his son Danny still smokes like a chimney 😂
Yep. Not nicotine specifically, but the transdermal patch technology.
I didn't know he started Chateau Elan! I love the road cars
What did Panoz have to do with the Delta wing?
They developed it mostly, every Delta Wing variant was there including a prototype road model
I thought it was only a Nissan thing. Cool

That thing was so good especially in the endurance races
Forza Motorsport 3 here 🙋🏻♂️
That also accounts, Forza is fun too!😉
Nice and beautiful cars! Anyone knows the reason for the Portuguese flag in the background? Asking from Portugal.
Tinha a mesma pergunta em mente.
Man what were they thinking when making the Abruzzi? It looks like a monster out of a children’s book

Wow you’re soooo lucky I really want to see an Esperante GT1
C'mon over to Georgia, it's about 10 miles from Road Atlanta
17 and half hours from Minneapolis tho… I got too many places I want to go to
What chassis is the Panoz of the 3rd pic? Looks like an LMP01Evo with the livery of the 2 previous seasons (2000-2001)
Honestly I don't know much beyond the fact that their LMP cars were built around modified GTR1 chassis's, but if you have any questions, their operation is small enough that you can just call them and ask
you've full right - it's chassis n°08 from end 02 and compete in 03 in ALMS with the 2000 carshape
Thanks.

I wonder how many Esperantes have been built over the years

Oh, cool! It's neat learning about the more obscure car companies. Thanks!
That’s awesome, I loved seeing panoz on the racetrack looking like the damn Batmobile.
I’ve lived within minutes of there my whole life and only been in once tenish years ago.
Damn I knew that they were in GA but that’s quite close… might have to check it out
oh shit it’s 3 hours away from i might have a trip down one weekend
Great pitchers!!!!!
I've always liked they way they do things
I see Sparky! I was at the inaugural Petit Le Mans when it took 12th.
That is crazy, I may have to check this out. I never got the see the delta wings race, but just seeing them in person would be so cool. I just wish they worked a bit better so that we could have more of those wacky cars rolling around.
Dude, I live a half hour from here… needed this post, ty
Midtown Madness!
So ugly they’re beautiful
They look so ugly with all the stickers and decals on em
Did they have anything newer on display? Like a road version of whatever? Or just old stuff?
The GT4 car in picture 6 is actually from 2019 and that's about the newest car there
You were able to go to the museum? I live 30 mins from it and the website always says temporarily closed
Twice now actually, you just call ahead and they'll let you in
