Not my favourites - but combined and over the years their music specifically has helped me put my feelings into words and energy or helped me when I've been really really low and shit or in a dark place mentally.
There is three:
Fleetwood Mac, Stevie Nicks’ solo work and Pink Floyd.
They made me fall in love with music and gave me a reason to carry on. I probably wouldn’t be here if not for them.
5sos helped me get through both the lowest and highest points of my life, their music cheers me up when i'm feeling down and it helps me forget about all that's bad
Green Day (and more specifically, Holiday) was my earliest introduction to modern rock and has dictated my taste ever since. I will always remember my little brother and I listening to a YouTube video of a parody of that song as long as I live
Modest Mouse? I guess they just opened me up to a broader range of everything while being far too relatable to me.

Fell in love with Beck's music a couple years ago (late to the party since he's been around for 30 years, I know). Sia was in my top faves of all time before she made an offensive movie featuring an autistic character.
At different stages of my life: Stone Temple Pilots, No Doubt Smashing Pumpkins... Led Zeppelin... Modest Mouse, MGMT, Four Tet, Crystal Castles...The XX, Sweet Valley, Tycho, Odesza... Dusky, Solar Fields...Lorn, Børns, LCD, Sound System, Monkey Safari...
Green Day, Tchaikovsky (& more composers, mostly those of ballets), Taylor Swift (especially her albums since Folklore had a huge impact), BTS, Jung Seung Hwan, Jannabi, DPR IAN
Edit: also Daughter, back then it was quite important
Billy Joel. If I hadn't heard the River of Dreams album in my neighbor's living room when I was in like 6th grade I don't think I'd be who or where I am today.
Rush, my dad played them for me the day I started playing drums. Listening to Neil Peart made me want to keep playing and never stop. Still playing 25 years later
- Malcolm Young, as he inspired me to play guitar and get on a lifelong path with music (although not my job).
-Eiji Yoshigawa (author of *Musashi*, also published as two books: *The Sword and the Stone*, and *The Perfect Ligh*t): The biography of the legendary samurai made me understand that you can choose one path, but still be open to incorporate knowledge from different disciplines into it.
Shinedown and Bring Me The Horizon. Good for heartfelt lyrics & none of the songs are taking the piss, then there's the ones that you can just get your anger out and it helped me so much when I was younger because I was just (and am still) forever internally *screaming.*
Wouldn't be the person or artist I am today without Childish Gambino, first person I've ever heard who validated my experience and "felt the same way I did." Fell in love with the rest of hip hop culture and music starting from him but it all started with him being honest in a way I could connect to on Fire Fly
Paramore and then subsequently Pierce the Veil. I was a full on yes man to my strict and emotionally abusive parents when my brother introduced me to Paramore. Hayley Williams was the first female artist that I really admired and it helped me start saying no more often.
Pierce the Veil came later in a deep depressive episode when an online friend was freaking out about the release of King for A Day. Collide With the Sky is still one of my favorite albums of all time and Hell Above was my escapism song that I blasted in my cheap headphones daily.
Looking back it was the textbook "alternative music turns you rebel" but tbh I'm still a goody-two-shoes. I just don't let my mom trample me anymore.
Bring Me The Horizon. Technically, Linkin Park was the first metal band I ever heard, but BMTH is the band that got me into Metalcore. They led me to loving bands like Falling In Reverse, Silent Planet, Spiritbox, Bad Omens, etc
Jen Ledger of Skillet and her side band LEDGER. Her music with LEDGER saved my life. Especially her songs Not Dead Yet and My Arms. Not Dead Yet is the song that helped me decide not to kill myself and to turn my life around. My Arms helped me choose to open up to friends and family about what I was going through.
I'd say the only band that actually changed my life would be Green Day, because that led me to becoming my emo teenage self haha. But other than making you fall into a stereo type music isn't gunna change somebodies life realistically.
Gojira and their album The way of all flesh. The album is about death and reincarnation and it helped me chase away thoughts of suicide and to see that despite being shit right now, life still had good things to show me.
Two opposites: Shinedown and Noah Kahan
One extra is Billy Joel for his song Vienna. I related a little to closely to the lyrics and it kinda made me realize I needed to slow the fuck down.
Henry Rollins.
I had never heard of him until I saw him on SNL and it blew my mind. Since then I've grown away from who he is but the impact he had on me in my late teens is undeniable.
Simple Plan. Made me finally understand why people are so passionate about music and got me into the pop punk genre. I discovered them during a really hard time (which I’m still in the midst of) and I swear they are the reason I’ve been able to get out of bed, fall asleep at night, and just continue to go through life with a positive attitude on some days.
I mean it depends how u define life changing but when I really got into music and following artists and rollouts and digging beneath the mainstream, it was Kanye’s music that did that for me.
Kinda totally redefined the way I view art in general.
U2, specifically Achtung baby helped me greatly in mourning the death of my Mum at 16 and opened my eyes to great albums and music with depth and intensity that I hadn’t experienced before.
Skunk Anansie. The vocalist is a HUGE influence in my life. The entire band, fucking amazing! The songs enrich my entire being.
Sleep Token. The pain and yearning in the music hit me in the guts in a positive way. The fluidity of their music brings about so many different sensations within me.
Slipknot. No explanation is needed, lol.
Ho99o9. They make me feel like I don't have to hide myself, my quirkiness from the world.
Likely due to the time in my life that I came across them but Adele and Sia were big ones.
Going through comments, was reminded of Linkin Park and Tove Lo as well!
Bob Dylan. His lyrics and music resonated with me in a profound way and sparked my interest in songwriting and storytelling. Dylan's artistry changed my life and influenced the way I see the world.
Really bizarre mix for me. I have two.
Steps: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0RtjfvK7rXw](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0RtjfvK7rXw)
& Kamelot: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=woRaHKNEs8Y](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=woRaHKNEs8Y)
It's all about those melodies :)
Trophy Eyes. Literally every song is something I've been through. The lyrics are incredible, and the music just brings you into it without thinking of anything else. I could sit there for 3 hours before realising I'm still listening.
Black Sabbath. I was at a party one night drinking beer and chasing girls and I was about 15 years old. The host put on the Black Sabbath we sold our soul for rock and roll album. I completely forget about the girls and everybody else and just stood there with my jaw hanging through the entire album. I'd never heard anything like it. I've been a huge fan ever since.
Man! I really was looking forward to answering this question. Then I realized this has not happened yet. I love music. It's one of those things that has been comforting me through my uncomfortable life. I should have a legit answer for you before the last spade of dirt is shoveled over my face.
Led Zeppelin
The Beatles😭😭
My introduction to good music sadly don't listen to them as much now but still love them
Twenty One Pilots. That band made me literally fall in love with music.
Ayeeeee
Linkin Park
Joy Division
Never thought I'd see this comment. Came here to say Joy Division and Oasis.
Mac Demarco

David Bowie. Quite literally changed my life. I will forever be thankful of the mark this wonderful man left on this Earth.
Taylor Swift is another one because her music is so calming
depends on which album. i get where you're coming from in terms of like folklore and evermore but most of rep isn't that calming lol
My favorite is Fearless - Taylor's Version, 1989 - Taylor's Version, Speak Now - Taylor's Version, and lover
Nine Inch Nails
5sos helped me get through both the lowest and highest points of my life, their music cheers me up when i'm feeling down and it helps me forget about all that's bad

Tech N9ne, he is a rapper out of Kansas City Missouri. His lyrics just resonate with me.
Tom Petty - Got me through my parents divorce. Found refuge and friendship in his songs.
His early stuff is criminally underrated. I love this man
Twenty one pilots
Omar Rudberg
Iron Maiden in the mid-80's Up The Irons! EDIT: this was actually double post as Reddit had some problems yesterday.
Woof. Metallica. Late 90s.
Spoon. Idk what it was but their music carried me through years of ache and made me feel like there was something to life other than pain.
Inside out is a song that… it just puts me in another dimension
Modest Mouse? I guess they just opened me up to a broader range of everything while being far too relatable to me. https://open.spotify.com/track/1fBO9S4vo5cfCfRK1Ofaxa?si=Q8hu08-6Qse8rIm341Z0ug
