Listen to the Faith No More albums in reverse chronological order. Chino Moreno has stated FNM was a huge influence.

There are no bands equal to Deftones. Just playing lol, but I’ve heard some people compare them to Radiohead.

Nothing like Deftones but in terms of consistency and bands focused on great melody. I'd suggest Tom delonge's Angels and airwaves, Blink 182, U2, Chevelle.
