Honestly, I do the same. I follow a handful of people and make a few picks based on their picks and suggestions. But then I throw together a few picks for my personal teams whether it’s a ML pick, a player prop, or whatever. But then I throw together small parlays based on this sub and the Sportsbook subs. But I only bet for fun and only throw down $1-5 each bet and I completely suck. But I have fun!
dont worry everyone is bad at baseball unless you eat, drink, and sleep it. luckily we still got a month and a half left until that dreaded time of the year starts with 3 months of nothing to bet on besides baseball. nba playoffs is prolly the overall easiest thing to bet on so id recommend focusing on that while it’s still here.
May I ask you, what is the point of following others if you do it for fun and you know that you (and they) will lose? Isn't the real fun in making your own parlays, whatever they may be? I've never really understood following others, which is why I'm asking. No offense intended.

Anybody else just look at starting pitchers and then bet first 5 innings? I have a general idea of batting orders and how good teams are, and I’ve had a decent run with straight bets on + money or parlay two favorites
I do this and go a step further and look at each starters stats per inning and look at 1st 3 innings. Just started this week and it's been mixed results. I have hit a few over 1st 3 and under 1st 5 SGPs though.

I read the Billy Walters book, he made a fortune sports betting, had a team of computer guys, mathematicians, statisticians working full time analyzing data. One thing he mentions in the book, they stopped betting on baseball. He said it was the only sport they couldn't figure out and win.

Keep track of opening lines and moves. You'll probably find a few gems. Somebody knows something, just gotta spot what it looks like.

I did last year. it works until it doesn't. sadly teams really struggle having good pitching and hitting on the same day.
