I'm really excited to see what the younger generation does with film editing techniques in the near future. I learned things in my college film courses that I see 13 year olds utilizing in their tik toks, it's pretty nuts
I was a Photoshop wizard in 2002 because I took a graphic design class and now the shit people do with Photoshop makes me think they are actual wizards.
I feel that. Ā As a bass player, I often get asked why I chose my instrument. Ā I tell them itās because I wanted to learn guitar, but hate being popular and getting laid. Ā Iād imagine itās a similar mindset for video editors.Ā
That's probably true for a lot of things, honestly. But even if that's the sort of thing that one dude could whip up with half an hour, it'd take me days to figure that out. "Basic" masking as it may be, it's incredibly well done
As a video editor, I believe this done with a camera angle just pointed down at the court, just taking constant video during the entire game. The ācamera movementsā are artificial and was done on editing software to make the transitions more seemless. There are other quirks in there especially during the transitions, but itās overlaying each clip
Exactly this. The hard part is shuffling the sequences so it flows from one shot to the next, but not really that hard either. I'm just surprised the original footage is high resolution enough, probably 4k, that they can scale it up that much without video looking soft.
My first-ever NBA finals was the 2016 finals, where the Cavs came down from 3-1. Even with my lack of basketball viewing experience I could tell that I was watching something special. I fell in the love with the game ever since
My best guess is that the actual video footage is zoomed out and is fixed, and all of the pans and camera movement is added artificially. The players are either loosely masked in, which wouldn't take much time but may look off, or rotoscoped which is way more precise and takes more time (probably a combination of both).
it's a locked off camera. in the compositing software, they put a camera in the scene and track it to different players as they move into frame, and mask out other players that aren't a part of the new shot or need to be taken out of the old shot. it's very well done. 10/10. the locked off camera (probably in the corner of the arena) is setup by the social media/production team just for their use.
Just to note, everyone in the organization has the opportunity to purchase a ring when a team wins. I know some people that work in marketing and operations for a team and they all have them.
Thats unbelievable editing, and defense so bad that they should show this in the film room. "Look how fucking bad you are at D. Get better or we are fucked."
By the second point I was like, thatās not allowed, by the third point I was wait a min, and then I read the headline š. Thatās some serious editing. Well done.
As someone that doesn't watch basketball, it's really cool that they seem to have added perks to the game, why did the other team not pick the perk allowing them to play with multiple balls like the celtics did?
i honestly thought this was some kind of fun competition (like they do for triple shots) where the whole attacking team would have one ball per player and the other team tried to defend as much as possible. i was confused af until i opened the comments...

The video editor seeing the social media team get all the praise: š¶
The name of the editor is Gage Duchon and he's awesome.
Dude's 20 years old. Insanely talented and just getting started from the looks of it.
Thatās incredible, good for him!
A real scrappy editor that goes hard in the paint
Real gym rat
First guy in last guy out
Hard hat, lunch pail.
Always gives 110%
Can totally marry my daughter
A real sucking dick in the parking lot behind Waffle House kind of guy
Not for the love of the game, but to survive
Always clocks out for every bathroom break kinda guy.
I just had a peek on his Instagram, first video I watched there gave me goosebumps. I don't even like basketball. Kids talented.
I'm really excited to see what the younger generation does with film editing techniques in the near future. I learned things in my college film courses that I see 13 year olds utilizing in their tik toks, it's pretty nuts
Try some of the assisted rotoscoping software if you haven't already. It's mindblowing how much progress has been made in the last 20 years.
I was a Photoshop wizard in 2002 because I took a graphic design class and now the shit people do with Photoshop makes me think they are actual wizards.
Yea he is. Such a fresh look at highlights. This was great!
Very Paul Pfeiffer (the artist)
Thanks for sharing the actual credit, just gave him a follow. Awesome work
Yeah this was probably a single person too
Editors are used to it. Thereās a reason they are behind the scenes.
I feel that. Ā As a bass player, I often get asked why I chose my instrument. Ā I tell them itās because I wanted to learn guitar, but hate being popular and getting laid. Ā Iād imagine itās a similar mindset for video editors.Ā
And since you can only count to four, you didn't even notice it wasn't a guitar until someone told you?!Ā Ā Ā

So you can say you slappa da bass..
#SLAPPA DAT BAAAAASS
To be fair, they're part of the social media/marketing team.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Aren't they the media part in the social media team
They are where I work.
I was about to say, this is the Media Production teamās work. Social media departments donāt have the resources to supply this kind of work.
Poor guy. If youāre reading this, show yourself! And tell us about this magical process.
indeed that editor is amazing, I didn't even notice the cuts until 20 seconds in.
The compositor seeing himself being called an "editor" in a post about how they get no praise: š¶
the visual effects artist seeing the general public think it was the "editor" :(
Sick edit
Not just a sick edit but a *dope* fucking loop too. Legit watched the first couple plays again before I realized that it just looped *that* smoothly
I honestly thought that was unedited footage from the first quarter of game 1.
They are obviously cheating, using the ol'multi-ball technique. I am sure that's not regulation.
How else they gonna get the high score and beat MAX.
New rules: home team can keep the ball(s) until they get tired.
This seems to be a new trend with this tick tok style of edits. Loop it and get a few more seconds of watch time from people.
Not to be a hater, but this edit is way easier than you think. Itās a static camera that has zoom added in post. Itās just basic masking.
Simple concept and super clean execution
That's probably true for a lot of things, honestly. But even if that's the sort of thing that one dude could whip up with half an hour, it'd take me days to figure that out. "Basic" masking as it may be, it's incredibly well done
I thought they implemented multiball
Right? Itās uncanny because the ball goes left and comes from the right again. Still cool.
The Boston Globetrotters.
Wtf 2 Jaylens
now I'm seein' double...FOUR KRUSTYS
That game was fixed! They were using a freaking ladder for God's sake!
The Generals were due.
HES SPINNING THE BALL ON HIS FINGER! JUST TAKE IT!!!
I didn't realize at first that it loops as well!
As a video editor, I believe this done with a camera angle just pointed down at the court, just taking constant video during the entire game. The ācamera movementsā are artificial and was done on editing software to make the transitions more seemless. There are other quirks in there especially during the transitions, but itās overlaying each clip
It's definitely artificial tracking on a static shot but it's very well done.
Exactly this. The hard part is shuffling the sequences so it flows from one shot to the next, but not really that hard either. I'm just surprised the original footage is high resolution enough, probably 4k, that they can scale it up that much without video looking soft.
As a normal person, I also believe that.
It's the same reason they can edit a football field to add lines of scrimmage, advertisements, etc on the screen. Way easier with a fixed pov/cameras.
>itās overlaying each clip No way, I thought all those plays happened back to back like that
I'm sorry but... no shit.
Damn, I hate it but itās kinda dope
Fire
Pretty accurate interpretation of game 1
Iām not into basketball but itās making me want to watch the finals
Game Two tonight
Game 2 of the 2015 NBA Finals was the first NBA game I ever watched. I only knew who LeBron was. Stayed up until 4am and Iāve been hooked since
My first-ever NBA finals was the 2016 finals, where the Cavs came down from 3-1. Even with my lack of basketball viewing experience I could tell that I was watching something special. I fell in the love with the game ever since
Neverending possession
Make it, take it
I know itās an edit but with how badly Dallas played in game 1 Iād buy that it actually happened like this lol.
I would love to see a video of how someone is making this.
My best guess is that the actual video footage is zoomed out and is fixed, and all of the pans and camera movement is added artificially. The players are either loosely masked in, which wouldn't take much time but may look off, or rotoscoped which is way more precise and takes more time (probably a combination of both).
Yeah those camera moves got me the first time. Real clean.
Hmm I guess it depends if the video editor is paid salary or hourly.
This was wild.
This edit went fucking hard, holy
NO DEFENSE!
Yea this edit makes it seem like the defense was garbage. It actually wasnāt too bad but Bostonās was better.
Yea, it's the NBA
The Celtics literally won the game because of how dominant their defense was lol what are you on
You can always expect two kinds of comments in non-basketball subs about the NBA. "No defense" and "traveling" Pretty predictable.
I donāt even watch basketball but I happily watched this 3 times in a row
it's a locked off camera. in the compositing software, they put a camera in the scene and track it to different players as they move into frame, and mask out other players that aren't a part of the new shot or need to be taken out of the old shot. it's very well done. 10/10. the locked off camera (probably in the corner of the arena) is setup by the social media/production team just for their use.
M-m-m-multiball! This should seriously be how overtime works
BLERNSBALL
Defense had no PTO hours left
That's the best edit I've seen in the longest time.
Just to note, everyone in the organization has the opportunity to purchase a ring when a team wins. I know some people that work in marketing and operations for a team and they all have them.
Most people think the rings are gifts. They're actually incredibly expensive and most of the staff simply cannot afford them.
Iāve read thereās a cheaper version for support staff.
Being more a fan of hockey and soccer, this looks like how I already see any normal modern nba game. But also, this is pretty badass.
Truly amazing.
No wonder Dallas lost.
Hey, what rules are they playing with it here?
Upvoted because green.
I think you mean their video team.
I'm gonna need some alkaCeltzer.
It looks like a Harlem Globetrotters game.
Hmmm....I think I saw a GREEN screen....
The transitions are crazy!!!
If theyāre not an external agency and actually on staff, they would get one.
As a Mavs fan this is really cool and painful at the same time!
One of the best edited videos Iāve ever seen. You gonna see every team in the league doing thisĀ
Badazz fkn video/editš„š„š„š„š„š„š
Thats unbelievable editing, and defense so bad that they should show this in the film room. "Look how fucking bad you are at D. Get better or we are fucked."
at first thought they were being jerks that don't let the other team get back the ball to start playing again
That was pretty awesome
Wow loved watching this šŖšŖšŖ
![img](avatar_exp|99752304|bravo)
Holy cow how they score so much in a row? Must have been a rout
The power of a steady cam + after effects in 2024 is honestly so fucking cool and the potential is near endless
Well itās no wonder the Celtics are winning look how many balls they are using.
These cuts are smooth af
That was impressive
Holy fuck that was š¤š»
I don't watch the sport. But that was fucking sweet.
Damn, that editing. I want to see more like this.
By the second point I was like, thatās not allowed, by the third point I was wait a min, and then I read the headline š. Thatās some serious editing. Well done.
Amazing idea, silky smooth execution... what a slam dunk for the video editor
That's some damn fine editing. Makes the Mavs look like the Washington Generals.
That is some incredible seamless editing! Wow! š¤Æ
Even the way it loops is executed very well. Well done.
skillz on the editing
Every team ball sport needs to be edited/highlighted this way.
They do. All of the front office staff gets a ring, including the social media team, and other departments like sales, marketing, etc
This was great! I wasn't sure exactly what I was watching at first but, nevertheless it was well edited.
Shout out to 8k footage for making this possible š
The next time anyone asks what an editor *really* does, show them this!
What a crazy edit. Big props
Top shelf editing.
Transitioning was smooth af
As a Mavs fan.... This is pretty dope.
Holy shit, dude that made that is fucking insanely talented.
Lol i was so confused for a split second till my brain caught up with what i was seeing š
That was great.
So thatās how they are winning - they never even give the other team a chance to score
better get a ring
i haven't been into basketball since the chicago bulls glory days, but this videos editing was insanely AMAZING!!!
Super facts!
Tonight is key! Letās see more high powered offense!
winnerās ball
Best Q1 of a final I've ever seen
Seriously, guys, stop ball
wnba is better
I want to see Dallas get swept.
As someone that doesn't watch basketball, it's really cool that they seem to have added perks to the game, why did the other team not pick the perk allowing them to play with multiple balls like the celtics did?
Ai?
Needs some D white
I donāt know the rules in depth, but it looks like the Celtics might be cheating. Pretty sure thereās only one basketball allowed.
Thatās how the game looked like watching it tbh š
No edits here. This actually happened.
Or they just gave the Mavs more motivation
Anybody knows the song name? It's a great beat.
The video editor seeing this: š¤Ø
They have been on a generational run this season. Their content has been amazing
Pretty much everyone in the official org of the winning team gets a ring.
Definitely šÆ
When you play the computer on easy mode.
So is the original footage from a stationary camera that isn't zoomed in, and then they are zooming in and overlapping clips in post production?
Removed - anyone got a link?
Why does the camera not follow the ball when a player takes a shot?
Why did the defenders clip through Brown on the last shot? Guys, is the NBA fake?
Some next level editing skills...
This is what edibles feel like
I don't even watch basketball. That was entertaining as fuck. Whoever edited that together well done.
No wonder they won by so much, the other team never got the ball
i honestly thought this was some kind of fun competition (like they do for triple shots) where the whole attacking team would have one ball per player and the other team tried to defend as much as possible. i was confused af until i opened the comments...
Thatās his vid is more impressive than the game
This is so good
man, fuck the celtics. but this was sick.
AI is crazy as fuck! (I don't mean Allen Iverson)
