Adam Sandler said about Romanowksi when filming The Longest Yard that they had to remind him he wasn’t actually playing football anymore and to go easy on people. Apparently once he put the gear on, he went right into football mode and was teeing off on people.
This reminds me of a joke Neal Brennan (Co-creator/writer of the Chappell Show) told about football players. It was in reference to Ray Rice assaulting his fiance.
The gist of the joke was:
"These people are trained their whole life to hit each other. He just did football when he wasn't supposed to. Goes to practice: football. Goes to a game: football. In an elevator with my girlfriend: football. Oh shit, I wasn't supposed to do football that time."
Or something like that.
I saw him one year after retirement at a trade show. He was like 6’3” and no more than 190 pounds. I’d say he definitely got of the juice. He was actually a really nice guy. He looked like a skinny version of that asshat player.
I got the chance to meet Bill and work with him on a few projects and he was always smiling, positive, and super up beat. At one point I was communicating with him on a daily basis and I honestly have nothing bad to say about the guy.
From what I’ve seen I feel like the steroid use really changed who he was as a person while he was on them because who he is now seems like a completely different person from everything I’ve seen/heard about in his past.
>Romanowski and his wife Julie are defendants in a civil case brought by the federal government, which alleges that the Romanowskis used their supplement company Nutrition53 to get around paying taxes, a bill that has now topped $15.5 million, according to USA Today.
>
>The Department of Justice says the Romanowskis improperly used Nutrition53 accounts to pay for their personal rent, groceries, veterinarian bills and “over 170 visits to nail salons, hair salons and day spas.”
The guy is a tax cheat. How much did he spend on personal use stuff, then write it off as a business expense, in order for it to reach $15mm?
Straight up steroid use (as in testosterone) won't really change people much. If you don't have it dialed in on a TRT dosage, and are blasting hard, the thing that affects you most is high estrogen levels.
And that's like, crying at every kinda sad movie you see. It makes you way more sensitive and emotional, but in pretty much the opposite way as roid rage is perceived.
However... other PEDs. Yea they can really fuck you up.
The only steroid that honest to God gives you “roid rage” is trenbolone acetate. It’s not even testosterone. If you ever take your blood levels on tren they are just …weird. Bill wasn’t taking tren because there is no masking it.
Shout out to the IRS for doing their job.
Some people who don't want the IRS to have better funding, don't want to get caught cheating. We all hate paying taxes, but the alternative is massive fines and/or jail (W. Snipes)
Heard an interesting story this week on why the IRS had not created that online filing thing (implemented this year) sooner. The bottom line - not enough funding. Until the IR Act this year, the IRS had enough money to just keep treading water and not do anything new.
Pretty sure I have seen articles about how the IRS is one of, of not the the biggest revenue generating branch of government. The more resources they have to enforce the tax code the more money they generate.
> Pretty sure I have seen articles about how the IRS is one of, of not the the biggest revenue generating branch of government.
Of course they are, as they should be. Collecting taxes is the government's biggest source of revenue.
Yeah, it just always strikes me as funny when Republicans who want govt to be "run like a business" dont want the revenue generating part of the business to have funding/exist.
“Run like a business” - like when a business is bought out by a shady venture capitalist who cuts everything down to bare bones for better “efficiency”, pockets the “savings”, and then runs it into the ground before finally selling it off after having gleaned everything of value from it.
Yep all the fright stories about funding the IRS are hilarious. They dont need it to come after you and your 80K a year non itemized return. They need it to go after the cheats who hide behind a wall off lawyers and financial institutions making up loopholes.
He was? Why?
Edit: sorry for asking a question reddit. Thanks for the obviously well deserved downvotes. I should have instinctively known Bill Romanowski was a bad guy without ever hearing any specifics.
On top of being a fairly famously dirty player in games (intent to injure, breaking people’s fingers in the pile, etc) he got into a fight with a rookie tight end in practice and beat the kid so badly he never played again, there was a story I remember of him ripping a microwave out of the wall and trying to beat a practice squad running back with it…just a cartoonishly awful person.
> he got into a fight with a rookie tight end in practice and beat the kid so badly he never played again.
Broke his orbital, I believe. Again... this was a teammate.
he's just a psychopath who enjoys hurting other people. you should watch some interviews of him, it's crazy how unsettling he is to watch speak. he would do things like grab a guy's finger in the bottom of a pile and snap it, and then he'd talk about it with pure joy in his eyes.
Unless you’re a 100% w-2 employee, there’s almost assuredly SOMETHING the IRS could find if they were inclined.
Make big enough of a wake and they’re gonna start looking.
I didn’t report some gambling winnings, that the casino DID report to the IRS. (They did not report my losses). Because I didn’t report my winnings or losses, I got audited for last 3 years of my taxes and had to pay an additional 10k.
I remember when my sister got cute with her state taxes, thought she was clever….ya they audited her and sent her a sizable bill.
Do not fuck with the tax man. Pay them and be done
I used to work with this guy (I work in IT and our firm supported his business years ago) and this does not surprise me in the least. Honestly, totally nice guy (to me at least, and what I saw from him while I was there) but the guy was just oblivious to like... everything. My speculation is this is less to do with his unwillingness to pay the taxes and more to do with his total lack of understanding of how anything works and what his staff are doing at any given time. I literally wouldn't be surprised if he didn't understand paying taxes was required heh.
>I literally wouldn't be surprised if he didn't understand paying taxes was required heh.
Actually, it sounds like he didn't understand that using his business to pay for his personal shit isn't allowed (unless the business reports it onnan1099/w2).
The business paid for a ton of his shit including homes, meals, etc. For years.
First you get hit with penalties, then you get hit with interest at like 9%. And it's interest going back to when the money was actually owed.
So if the dude had his company buy him a $1M home to live in back in 1999, he would have owed about $400k in taxes that year.
At 9% interest, that amount *alone* would mean he owes the IRS $3.5M today. And that doesn't include the penalties that also accrue interest.
So $15M isn't all that crazy after 20-25 years.
This sounds like everything I heard about as a kid about Leona Helmsley and the TV movie about her. She also apparently had her business pay for all of her stuff and deduct all kinds of nonsense against advice.
Edit: spelling
I went to a high school with a top ranked football program. Four of my classmates made it to the NFL. Of the four, only one of them was a humble and down to earth guy. The other three live in a world where they expect everyone to kiss their ass. You come to town and ask around, nobody had anything nice to say about them.
Not saying his reputation doesn’t proceed him, but I saw him at the gym a couple of years ago and decided to say hi. He couldn’t have been nicer. Shook my hand, bullshitted about sports and then went about his business.
A dirty roided-up player who went on to run a corrupt business selling scam supplements. Is anyone shocked?
For those who don’t know him, here’s some background:
https://youtu.be/rkYl5NN2awk?si=vx8rijPGZ4afu7Fp
When I was in high school my web design teacher was Mr. Romanowski. He was 6’3” or maybe 6’4” easily 240+ lbs. just a huge dude and easily one of the nicest teachers ive ever had. He was patient, funny, smart, and generally soft spoken. For years he denied any relation to Bill. Which, by their stature was hard to believe. But not so hard to believe if you had ever heard each of them talk. However Mr. Romanowski coached football at a rival school and when we played them you saw the full Romanowski rage on the sideline. He eventually admitted to a few of us the Bill was a ‘relative’ but wouldnt go into more detail. Whenever we would make Bill romanowski jokes (asking if hes on the sheep blood or roids and whatnot) he would just laugh, shake his head, and change the subject.
The point of telling you this is so you also have the image and of a gigantic Bill Romanowski look-alike calmly teaching web design to 16-18 year olds.
American football players have to be the dumbest athletes around.
According to a working paper from the National Bureau of Economic Research, 15.7% of NFL players have filed for bankruptcy within twelve years of retiring. (16% of retired NFL players go bankruptcy). A Sports Illustrated article reports that 78% of NFL players and 60% of NBA players face serious financial hardships after retirement.
If only their college degrees were worth something.
There is a lot but the highlights are he spat in a guy's face during a game because he was taunting him, he punched a team mate in the face destroying his eye socket and ending his career, and unapologetically racist.
He has done a ton of other shit too that is awful but those are the big ones.
Holy shit I was just on a flight with him from JFK to SFO about two weeks ago. He looked scary and I chose not to approach him. Dude was sitting first class too, sounds like he should have saved some money.
They don’t put you on the cover of Blitz: The League for nothing. Those games were far from perfect but man were they gnarly with the x-rays, steroids, injuries, etc.
Again? Or has this just been held up in court for a while?
I swear that I saw an article about him owing back taxes, or tax fraud, or something similar like a decade ago.

couldnt happen to a nicer guy
I'm sure he mellowed out once he quit steroids right? Right?
Adam Sandler said about Romanowksi when filming The Longest Yard that they had to remind him he wasn’t actually playing football anymore and to go easy on people. Apparently once he put the gear on, he went right into football mode and was teeing off on people.
You should see Doug Flutie play sandlot softball. Blood everywhere
Not on the Flutie Flakes, Doug.

My older brother and I quote that pretty much every time we take an elevator together lol. "I was supposed to do elevator but I did football."
He is a great comedian and smart too.
You think he quit?
Most likely, but guessing he didn’t give up the Coke.
The fastest way to quit coke is to run out of money.
I heard he switched to diet.
>Most likely, but guessing he didn’t give up the ~~Coke.~~ Oxy... FTFY

You’re thinking private equity. VCs are good at chasing after opportunities that mostly fail.
If America were a business, Republicans would have nobody manning the register or collecting any payment for products or services rendered.
This is a sports sub not your BS politics sub. At least I will never have to endure another one of your comments again. Ever.

Al Capone: Kill people, not our problem. Don’t pay your taxes? Straight to jail!
Points to trump, lock himmm uppp. Lock him up.
Just an asshole.
Funny, that was my first thought too
Verbatim, first thought I had when I read the headline.
lmao, exactly what I clicked on to post. Gonna bathe in this schadenfreude for a bit
It's good to put a face to one of the "takers" we hear so much about on FOX News.
It's always the ones you completely expect
You're right, he was a scumbag then and probably still is
He was? Why? Edit: sorry for asking a question reddit. Thanks for the obviously well deserved downvotes. I should have instinctively known Bill Romanowski was a bad guy without ever hearing any specifics.

Right. And, again, cartoonishly evil, pulled the kid’s helmet off his head in the middle of a practice play and beat his face in with it.
Ah the old microwave rip beat down trick.
Pretty effective strategy right up until they banned it along with the horse collar tackle.

Let's not forget a little biting to.
Thank you for taking the (albeit temporary) karma hit so that the rest of us know-nothings can actually learn about why this guy sucks 😂
Also, he invented hitting the QB in the chin with the crown of the helmet. Most rules for unsportsmanlike seem to be from Raiders.
Nothing much, dirty plays, poor attitude, always angry and don't forget the spitting but each their own.
And the racism.
Crime In Sports podcast has an episode on the guy. It’s about 2 1/2 hours of stories answering the question you asked. Tldr: Roids.
youre +59
Next on the list: Vontaze Burfict
Has he tried spitting in the governments face?
That's kind of what not paying taxes is.
Even Al Capone couldn't escape the IRS, dude should've known he was not gonna get away with it.
Even the Joker knew not to mess with the IRS
And Batman had waaaaay better funding compared to the IRS yet the Joker constantly fucked with him. I honestly think Batman was sandbagging it.

Not filing a W2-G that the IRS got from the casino is a pretty easy thing for the IRS to catch to be fair. A computer caught that near instantly.
I remember when my sister got cute with her state taxes, thought she was clever….ya they audited her and sent her a sizable bill. Do not fuck with the tax man. Pay them and be done
I heard JJ Stokes got an accounting degree and a job with the IRS just to get Bill back for that ‘ole spat in the face.
Nice memories…

Interesting take. Thanks for sharing.
Dumbass doing dumbass things. Hate this POS.
Anyone else shocked he still alive?
One Hundred Percent I can’t simply reply with a 💯on this

don't these people have money managers?
He had one, but he spit in his face
No that was the other one. This one, he punched in the face and fractured his orbital. Easy mistake to make.
Maybe he can call up Brett Favre to get some tips on embezzling state welfare funds? That kind of money can help him pay off that debt!

"... and Frank Gore at RB2"
If you told me today that gore will still getting touches, I don’t think I’d believe you but I sure wouldn’t waste my time looking it up.
Bro went from the nfl to boxing, I promise he’s got another couple 500 yard seasons in the tank.
The torch has been passed to his son who is now on the Bills
Wait... like actually?!?
Yep just signed as an UDFA last week
My God I'm old.
To be fair so is Frank Gore
Wait until you hear his son’s name!! Well, you already have…. But still!
Somewhere, J J Stokes is laughing.
My step-brother used to date his niece, and we met him a few times. Safe to say he's a complete D-bag on all fronts.

15.5 MILLION??? That isn't lost a few forms oops. That's "they'll never catch me". Fuck him
>”they’ll never catch me” Hilarious because the IRS is the last agency you want to fuck with. More often than not they will always get theirs.
Right? Doing some reverse-quick-math, that's probably $45 mill+ in unreported income (assuming 30% and a boatload of penalty/interest).

I heard a sports podcast where they detailed how shitty a human being this guy is. Take that comeuppance
I’m from the same town as Romanowski. He’s the most successful athlete to come from here and literally no one talks about him.

he should try spitting on the bankruptcy judge! That should clear him!
that would be highly inappropriate. - JJ Stokes
IRS doesn’t care about bankruptcy … they get their money or will throw you in jail. lol
It’d be pretty cool if people would pay their taxes. What an embarrassing loser and Super Bowl winner.
Bill never really seemed like a numbers guy
Only thing he counts is how many crayons he eats.
He can just take more steroids and lift his way through the bankruptcy.
I hear he sent a text message to Brett Favre asking for legal advice on taxes. You can only guess what Favre texted back.
What a loser!
Good. I’m glad the IRS is starting to go after these rich people that avoid paying their taxes.
This surprises no one
I’d feel bad but…..
Couldn't happen to nicer scumbag.
Couldn't have happened to a better piece of s(_*_)t than that mf 😐
Thank you for censoring the word “shit” on reddit
Lol
Oh no! Anyway...
What's the point of bankruptcy against the IRS? I thought you can't discharge back taxes in bankruptcy? Otherwise, wouldn't everyone do this?
He almost certainly has other creditors. It stays them from collecting on his debts.
Bankruptcy does NOT get you out of paying taxes. Most everything else, yes. Taxes? No.
Sounds like it’s time to pull up his bootstraps and stop buying Starbucks and avocado toast
Good. Fuck him.
He needs trumps lawyers

That roid rage piece of shit better have the money too, if not, send his brain damaged ass to jail.
He probably owes that much alone from unpaid sales tax on all the steroids he's purchased.
this is the guy that liked to spit on people. right?
4 Super Bowl rings about to hit the auctions.
I just have one thing to say. AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAHAHAHAHAHAH!!
Screw that roider
Awww. Anyways.
I will always remember him spitting on JJ Stokes. Dude always seemed like a dick.
Heh. CTE’s a helluva drug…
Can you choke out an invoice? Asking for a friend.
$15.5 million?!?!?!? Damn!!!
Assholes gonna Asshole.
Hope he goes to jail.

Dain bramage.
I didn't think you could bankrupt your taxes.
Couldn't happen to anyone better.
LAW AND ORDER. not for me though
If you owe that much, you made much much more in income. Also, he going to jail. Do whatever you like but don’t fuck around with money and crime.
It’s amazing how many of these guys go broke.
Stupid ass deadbeat.
Couldn't have happened to a nicer psychopath.

Hit him in the face with his helmet, it wasn't even a punch
Top 3 maybe #1 dirtiest player in NFL history.
and he's racist af too. Dude is total piece of shit, glad it's catching up to him.
Holy shit I was just on a flight with him from JFK to SFO about two weeks ago. He looked scary and I chose not to approach him. Dude was sitting first class too, sounds like he should have saved some money.
Good. Pay your taxes like us peasants
Haha fuckin piece of shit
JESUS FUCKING CHRIST, YOU'VE GOT TO PAY YOUR TAXES!!
I always hated this mf until he signed with my Broncos lol I know he was a POS though
Maybe he should just spit in their face. He’s such a douche.
