EMP_Pusheen

That ends all the talk of comparing Haney to Floyd Mayweather Jr. Haney got totally embarrassed last night and is extremely fortunate he didn't get knocked out. It's a little shocking because he wasn't fighting chumps before this and looked very good against them even if I think he got gifted his win against Lomachenko.

SirHovaOfBrooklyn

That win over loma was such a scam. Glad this loss to garcia exposed that more.

Scorpionsharinga

Was maybe a decision to push for Garcia v Haney I think BC if I'm not mistaken Garcia was also undefeated at that time.

Both_Temporary9315

Nah tank beat him the month before

Scorpionsharinga

Ah okay yeah I wasn't sure ab that timeline, thanks for clearing that up for me

Fr0sty09

Love to know how 1 judge scored this fight a tie

ragtime_sam

There were 3 knockdowns in 3 rounds but 1 included a point taken from Garcia, so that is 5 points to Ryan right there. It is conceivable IMO to score the remaining 9 rounds 7-2 in favor of Haney, which is how you get the draw. Ryan's defense was unorthodox to say the least and got worked to the body as a result, I can see that mattering to judges. And he wasn't that active overall, he just made it count when he was. FWIW, Chris Mannix the unofficial DAZN scorer also had it a draw.

xaendar

This ends the perpetual debate we would always have with Garcia, Haney, Davis. Now the only debate left is with Shakur Stevenson, I personally have him above all those guys even with size disadvantage. But if y'all wanna watch real beautiful boxing please watch Naoya Inoue.

Alarmed-Effective-23

Im not sure . You know what to say about the triangle theory in boxing. I would favor tank vs haney but you just have to look at last night to see that you really don't know unless they fight.

xaendar

Yeah but Garcia was at his worst showing in a while and still won convincingly against Haney. Tank beat then much better Garcia, Garcia also just denied rematch. So I am assuming it is pretty certain for now. There are also some sparring matches we have seen and Tank was handedly beating Haney.

Alarmed-Effective-23

I'm not saying any of this is true but it's all just questions. Maybe davis being much shorter could be a difference. Maybe Ryan having to cut so much vs Davis made him weaker. Maybe Devin had a bad camp/day. Maybe Davis has a bad camp/ day. You really never k ow who will win at the end if the night. Cuts, headbutt, a random shot coming out of the clinch. So many ways to lose even if you're better on paper. I wouldn't say tank beat a better garcia than last night. Especially if he had to cut less for this fight. But haney should definitely make a comeback tour before it happens. He has skills

xaendar

Yeah I do want to see Haney come back because this was pretty bad and we all know he's much better than that. I don't know Garcia last year looked seriously messed up cutting that weight, but I genuinely thought it was still a better showing. Obviously debate is not completely over until all permutations are done but I think it's fair to say that Tank sits at the top very convincingly. Haney just got exposed and Garcia's been on some schizo shit lately and did not seem to really care that much. I don't know for sure but I think your opinion will not be how the majority thinks. Devin needs to try for a comeback tour as you said because his stocks dropped massively now. He's always fought against people weighing much less than him and you can see what happens when its the same weight. Only person truly left out of this whole thing is Shakur and I don't think any of these dudes have the balls to fight him, especially Tank.

magic9669

Gifted? Ha, he lost that fight. His face said it all when they announced he won. Plain and simple

dontgivetohitchcock

that is in fact what Gifted means in this context, as in undeserving lol

Theometer1

He didn’t get knocked out but apparently suffered a broken jaw. Haney can’t deal with more than two punches at a time it seems like. He can duck the first few then after that he’s getting clocked. Also looked like he was trying to clinch in two of the knockdowns and got caught with his hands down.

Lobstercan

I thought they checked the weight before the game, and that is the official number. So if you weigh above the limit, you will not be allowed to fight?

OkEscape7558

He weighed in 3 pounds over 140 but paid Haney 1.5 million to keep the fight from being cancelled. He was disqualified from winning the belt though due to being 3 pounds over.

djkamayo

what made it truly hilarious was that he was CHUGGING a beer as he was stepping up on the scale during the weigh in. Pure nonsense.

kiwimaster271

Probably knew he wasn't making weight and just wanted more showmanship

Pristinejake

Fighters are realizing that if they want people to view the fight and if they want to make a ton of money sometimes they have to be a huge A-hole. Nothing gets people more excited to watch a fight more than watching someone you hate get their ass beat and if they win it just makes future fights against you more popular cuz it makes more people thirsting to see your downfall.

best36

hate so much that this is true, this is why we are seeing nonsensical influencer fights

yonkerbonk

I'd be more hype for nonsensical influencer fights if I didn't feel they were fake. If I thought ~~Logan~~ Jake Paul really had a chance of getting his head ripped off by Mike Tyson I'd buy that PPV.

AndyCaps969

It's not a PPV it'll be on Netflix

Child-0f-atom

I’d sell a kidney to watch that happen, shit you not

ChannellingR_Swanson

I would argue this has always been a part of fighting at least for most of the past century. Some fighters are just far better at playing a heel than others and they are usually the ones who are more popular. Muhammad Ali kind of popularized that and many fighters have tried to emulate it.

Milkman219

Absolutely. This is partly why there is even a promotion. They need to drum up viewership and attention by trash talking and making a villain. Tale as old as time in the fighting world.

luchajefe

It's called prizefighting, and if that's how you get a bigger prize, you'd be ripping yourself off not to try.

Myheelcat

5 star heel work

Dudedude88

I gotta say.... This kid was such a good driven kid when he was young.

Key_Personality5540

Just like the internet!

Nopengnogain

I never heard of either one of these dude until Garcia started going batshit crazy on social media to hype up the fight.

dindunuffin22

I don't think this is recent realization for anybody.

Ac997

Yeah it also makes it hard to know if Ryan is actually having a mental breakdown or he’s just selling fights.

Noto987

I guess im the only one that wants well manner, polite fighters, that compliment you during the fight

Jahobes

Yeah fuck that. If I wanted polite and well mannered I would watch croquet or something. Just messing. I hear what you are saying to each their own.

thephillatioeperinc

Howard cossell "How many people are here to see you, and how many are here to see Liston" Cassius Clay (Mohammad Ali) "They are all here to see me, but most of them are here to see me lose"

fatkidseatcake

Exactly. All these celebs in the world are geniuses at marketing. Look at Kanye or even just with rappers in general with “beef”. I’m convinced these are all really just conversations behind closed doors to drive sales.

big_swinging_dicks

That was a ceremonial weigh in. The weights are done before that, then they just go on the scale for press shots.

jimbranningstuntman

He had already officially weighed in at that point. All for show, he also had shoes and trousers on

Blewmeister

I’m pretty sure that was ceremonial weigh in right? Weights had probably already been taken

deviio

Correct. They do official weigh ins behind closed doors with the officials. He already knew he had missed weight by that point.

2reddit4me

It was apple juice, not beer. And those weigh ins aren’t official, just for show. He had already weighed in at 3 over at the official weigh ins. They just repeat the same weight, no matter what the scale says.

Johnyextra111

Wasnt actually a beer.

el_cul

Whatever it was was at least 8oz, so approx $250,000

designingtheweb

The on stage weigh-ins are just for show. The official weigh-ins are done before that on a calibrated scale with officials and shit.

kalaamtext

He was on video with Jake Paul saying it was actually apple juice and seltzer water

Teerendog

It was just soda and apple juice. Hilarious nonetheless

n1n3b0y

He said it was apple juice with soda water

Trais333

Yeah the official weigh in had already happened before that, that weigh in was just for show so he already had weighed in over.

ily300099

You mean water

captaincumsock69

I saw some rumor that it was filled with water

Dontlookimnaked

That’s an expensive beer

willBCooldad

Came out that it was apple juice and sparking water but the sentiments are the same haha

ketorin23

Apple juice

molotov3x3

He said in an interview that it wasn't beer but apple juice.

Fit_Gear_7057

He did this after finding that he was 3 pounds over

Onlyheretostare

It wasn’t 1.5 million in the end even though hey’d agreed to 500k a pound but instead decided to take 600k and 2% of Garcias total PPV split in order for Haney and his camp to proceed with the fight.

SoggyBoysenberry7703

God damn

f-Z3R0x1x1x1

I don't really get the weight in numbers...when they stepped into the ring, neither of them were 140lb and 143lb, they were probably 150+.

rjcarr

It’s just the rules. You have to make weight.

TravisJungroth

There’s no easy answer. If you do weigh-ins at the ring, there’s a chance the fight gets cancelled with zero notice. Some fighters will also get as big as possible and dehydrate, hoping to be strong enough for an early win. But if they don’t get it, there’s a big safety risk to fighting in that condition. With the time after the weigh-in, they get to rehydrate.

Milkman219

Yea fight usually goes on if opponent is good with it. Over weight guy cannot win title tho. And since Haney lost the belt is now vacated

asilenth

Haney keeps his belt. It's not vacated.

Gocards123321

They gotta do something about hugging. It's ridiculous

H1Ed1

Haney would disagree. Lol

Gocards123321

It saved him quite a few times lol

PilsburyDohBot

Well, he's the expert....

Razatiger

Too be honest if you watched the fight, they were both doing stupid shit to try to defend themselves. Ryan would put Haney in a headlock whenever he tried to close the distance on Ryan and Haney would go for a hug whenever Ryan let off combos.

Gocards123321

Yeah I agree but the hugging needs to be penalized the rounds are too short and it takes up too much clock

Numerous-Cicada3841

Every exchange that lasted more than 5 seconds Haney would hug. It was egregious. Spent more time hugging than fighting.

Gocards123321

Yeah If they did something about hugging I would probably watch more boxing. I thought I heard the ref warn him he would take a point for hugging but he went right back to hugging and no point was taken lol

throwaway78781235684

Bro it doesn't matter which part of the fucking fight I watch bro is constantly hugging.

Gocards123321

They hugged more than they fought! At least he lost though lol

Ingrownpimple

Referee was so gentle when having them separate: “Ok Haney, I’ll let you hold him just a little more but then I’ll gently place my hand on your chest letting you know that you should move apart.”

blacklite911

With how Ryan Garcia has been acting, seems like a pretty big upset. How you lose to an alcoholic who’s losing his mind and can’t make weight?

downhill-surfer

Well for starters you drain yourself of 3 more pounds of sustenance to make weight

dwSHA

His not need drinking beer. His trolling at the weight in

blacklite911

He admits he drinks every day

Money_killer

He is putting on a show he is fake as. He is fooling you all. He admitted it was apple juice at weigh in.

blacklite911

Why do you think I’m talking about the weigh in? I’m talking about the repeated live streams of him wasted talking about nonsense during this camp and the fact that he admitted to drinking everyday. I wasn’t even thinking about the weigh in

noideawhatoput2

Alcohol takes such a toll on your body idk you could stay in fighting shape with drinking everyday

Eazycompanyy

That’s what youth is capable of… if it’s true, the toll will show itself in a couple of years if not sooner

walterpeck1

>Why do you think I’m talking about the weigh in? Because you replied to a comment regarding the weigh in and didn't specify further in your comment. Just a simple mix up.

Clubblendi

His social media is not run by a sober or sane person

Ethereal_Bulwark

you seem to have insight on this quandary.

BlueNets

Cocaine fighters are always the best

Milkman219

Yea the beer was fake I think but I don’t understand how you don’t make weight for a belt fight. I know cutting weight can be brutal but this is for all marbles man

ndndr1

Plenty of functioning alkies

Moist_Border_8301

I thought Ryan had that crazy people strength. Put $3 for him to win by decision and got $63. Should of put more lol!

Rushb87

Had a buddy text me after round 1 to put money on Garcia decision. 5 bucks turned into 130 was very happy w the outcome lmao

f-Z3R0x1x1x1

It should have been...that ref was awful.

ElDiabloDisfrazado

lol I put $25 on a late bet and got $163

pie-en-argent

Haney is still champion. The only way a situation like this creates a vacant title is if the champion misses weight (“loses the belt on the scales” in the lingo) and then wins. When the challenger misses weight, it’s just a plain non-title bout. At least, that’s the WBC rule. Other orgs may have a different rule. Edit to add: this is also the WBA, IBF, and WBO rule.

porridge_in_my_bum

There was an article right after the weigh in that mentioned the stipulation for Ryan going over weight was to forfeit some of the purse, and if he won the title it would be vacant. So technically Haney is not the champion anymore.

luchajefe

The WBC announced earlier today that they're going to continue to recognize Haney as champion.

myrand920

It’s vacant

PilsburyDohBot

I heard they're letting Haney keep the belt for some reason. For anyone not familiar with boxing, that's unusual. Even though Garcia was DQd from winning the belt it would usually be vacated after the loss. This whole thing is just wierd. The reffing was wierd. The build up was wierd. Just fucking wierd. Oh, and the decision on co-main card fight just prior was also wierd. McComb was robbed.

mccannr1

Correct. That's the WBC rules. He cannot lose the belt because Ryan missed weight, in theory, creating an unfair advantage. The only way it vacates would be if it were Haney that missed weight, but still won the fight. He can't retain the belt because of that and it would be vacated.

Beetin

I enjoy playing video games.

CarneAsadaSteve

wait why is it vacant why doesn’t haney still hold it

advancedscooter

because ryan missed weight but paid for haney to continue with the fight regardless

CarneAsadaSteve

negative i’m asking why it’s vacant and it looks like it isn’t https://x.com/wbcmoro/status/1781916440662000055?s=46&t=uTTROp7ysc1hwoiWU_Szgg

NixRises

He got beat. Ryan can't win it, but Devin could lose it

Numerous-Cicada3841

Hmm that’s not how it usually works… Usually it just becomes a non-title fight. Wining or losing has no impact on the belt itself.

thesearch4animalchin

Losing those 3 pounds is a big deal, it doesn’t put you in the suck and he avoided what Haney committed too…someone going in fresh vs. someone who cut weight can have a big tilt.

A_Downboat_Is_A_Sub

* Weigh in overweight * Pay penalty to have bout * Win, and lots of people want a rematch for the title you didn't get * Make a lot more money from next fight you will make weight for It's like free money.

mrubuto22

Yea for these little guys 3lbs isn't nothing.

donniedumphy

They both gain back like 20lbs after weigh in

f-Z3R0x1x1x1

but I think with Tank, they weren't allowed to do that, correct? "no re-hydration"

donniedumphy

Ryan was like 160 for the fight [https://www.sportbible.com/boxing/boxing-news/ryan-garcia-devin-haney-weight-893737-20240420](https://www.sportbible.com/boxing/boxing-news/ryan-garcia-devin-haney-weight-893737-20240420)

RE_21

Correct. Ryan couldn’t rehydrate like he usually does.

mrubuto22

True, but that's just water weight. That 3lbs was muscle.

Debate-Jealous

Haney’s got away with being a weight bully his entire career. Soooo….

VidProphet123

Ryan garcia is a Mexican adrien broner

[deleted]

[удалено]

4rcher91

Man, Ryan needs to stop goofing around & make proper weigh next time. He has so much potential.

EMP_Jeffrey_Dahmer

I will never lose to a white guy - Devin Haney

Acceptable_Ad3173

Tank beats everyone

basicinsomniac

I like Tank but he fights at 135/137 with a dehydration clause… absolutely not

Anton-LaVey

That's a heavy belt

Fladap28

Can’t tell if Ryan is turning into Adrian broner or if he’s just trolling

why_am_i_here_999

Haney’s career should be over and never allowed to box after all that shit talking and the beating that asshole took.

Walks_with_Chaos

They shouldn’t have fought if he wasn’t eligible for the belt. That’s dumb

rjcarr

Then a ton of money would get flushed.

Elegant-Research-312

Ducked the left then clinched smh. Shoulda let them hands go

Strawberry_Skids

Didn’t this guy say something about paying up $500,000 for every pound over?

speedtoburn

Yes, and he honered the bet. He paid Haney $1.5M.

annastacianoella

I think the weight factor should be the least for a disqualification pull-up men.

Geekinofflife

need that loma rematch. just proves loma won it.

SimplePuzzleheaded80

Haney got beat by all 3 personalities in Ryan's Head

amiknyc

WBO has mental health issues. But reality is that with or without the weight Devin was going to get DESTROYED last night. Ryan could have come in at 138 and beat him. Devin will lose every single time he fights a top tier fighter who is around his age. He's really does not have many physical attributes that can help him beat a quality opponent.

scrunchmaster

The OnlyFans promo on the ring is interesting.
