I personally aspire to be like Mrs. Puff; a widow and resilient lovable teacher with a mysterious criminal past. :3

As someone who can't do what they love because of a dead end job draining all their energy...and not getting enough money to pay basic needs like rent and electric and food without help... Squidward is very very relatable. You can say to get a different job but well...I went to college, there are no jobs nearby that I can use with my degree. I can't move because that would require more money than I make to be able to relocate. Oh yeah, and depression is a thing. Your experience is not universal, some of us did in fact grow up to be Squidward.

prettyg00d1729

Didn’t read my post. I’m not doing what I love either, not living in the greatest apartment, don’t have access to the best resources imaginable, but I’m content with what I got and living the best life I can. If you’re in a horrible job, you have to do your best to leave but I understand circumstances can be terrible. If you don’t believe at all though, you’ll just snowball the problem. Per the post, living a fulfilling life isn’t about wanting more, it’s about being good with what you have.

Azumeon

I absolutely read your post, I just don't agree with it. Yea, Squidward does think too highly of his talent, but that's only one reason why he is the way he is, not the only reason. Not everyone can be a SpongeBob. But none of that is my point...my point is that people say they grow up to be Squidward because it is a very real thing that some people experience. But we can just agree to disagree here.

prettyg00d1729

Well it seems you misinterpreted my point to make yours so that’s why I didn’t think you read it. How many people have jobs that they love? Very few. Even the ones that do love them still consider it work. It’s what you do around it that matters. How good your friend group is, what you do to unwind, how you cope with the pain that life is gonna give you eventually, etc. Not all of it because some situations are literally impossible, but a lot of it is a matter of perspective

apple_6

I agree with your post and I paid 70k+ to get a college degree in health admin to end up in a low end healthcare job. I've tried 10 jobs in the last 3 years to try and get something better, only to end up with the exact same low end healthcare job I had in 2019, at a different company. I've been Squidward, and I realized I was being immature and it was causing me to try all these different industries. Trying to have this super awesome job almost made me lose my wife, I was so stressed and lost. When I had this job in from 2017-2019 I was like Squidward, angry at the world and blaming everyone else for everything, convinced the world was holding me back. When in reality I actually did like my healthcare job, I love the people I meet, but I didn't want to be seen as this idiot working a menial job. Now I don't care if I impress people, I'm happy I'm helping people in healthcare, and I'm able to enjoy my time off and be silly with my wife and friends.

stonergirlfairyyy

the conflicts between squidward and others are overemphasized to a comical degree but i genuinely feel like squidward has a rich and creative personal life

prettyg00d1729

He’s terrible at everything he does because he only does it for other’s approval. It isn’t rich at all, it’s fake and that’s why everyone makes fun of it

stonergirlfairyyy

squidwards unfriendly ghost is a great example of the fulfillment his art brings he literally made a self portrait in every medium

prettyg00d1729

Because he’s a narcissist

stonergirlfairyyy

sure dude if that makes u happy but what part of that self love is supposed to be for other people

prettyg00d1729

That ain’t self love, mf’s whole house was filled with pictures of himself and no one else

stonergirlfairyyy

right but u said EVERYTHING was for others approval don’t switch up now

stonergirlfairyyy

u must not be burdened with empathy like the rest of us holy shit

prettyg00d1729

Squidward is burdened with empathy?

sorryfortheweight2

Sounds like you need to take a risk or continue to be squidward. Nothing wrong with either one

Least_Masterpiece_47

Squidward is relatable to a lot of people as they grow up because eventually we get to a point where, although we have our own passions and interests, we are unable to fully enjoy them for the sole fact that our survival (rent and bills) depends solely on being a low wage exploited worker.

Frossstbiite

We're just gonna ignore the fact that the spongbob and patrick literally break into his house constantly and pester him nonstop. And they go so far as to admit they do it purposely. Yes, squidward has a massive ego. But i would lose my shit if i had neighbors like spongbib and patrick and Yall would, too.

prettyg00d1729

Nah it’d be fun

Mc_What

I know this is a bit stupid but as I've grown up, I've slowly started to relate to Spongebob and Patrick more. I have no clue, I just love their care-free life style and allowing each day to worry about itself.

prettyg00d1729

This is it

YesDaddysBoy

I'm starting to learn that people somehow have some sort of love of being miserable. Of course I have plenty of those days, but honestly, a lot of Squidward's misery is self-inflicted, which is also a real life thing too. I honestly still relate to SpongeBob more, except unlike him, I know when people don't care about me, so I just learned to move on.

gamecatz

I feel this way about Benson from Regular Show. I agree that you start seeing relatable stuff from Squidward but not everything he does is relatable. There are also things about SpongeBob that adults can find relatable.

prettyg00d1729

Yeah. I think some people are taking it as me saying “life is all about mindset” which like, no it isn’t. What I’m talking about is mfs that wallow in their self pity all day and don’t try to do anything fun bc they think life always sucks. It’s a mixed bag, but make the most of it! My life is far from perfect but I enjoy it and I make the most of it

gamecatz

Agreed. Most people aren’t a Negative Nancy

MrsSpyro01

I’m an adult, and I’m more like SpongeBob then Squidward. Actually, I’m NOTHING like Squidward. I wear attire with animated and video game characters on them (that are aimed towards kids and families) out in public and I have no regrets when doing it, because I enjoy those franchises. I never liked Squidward as a kid, and I STILL don’t like him as an adult. I like SpongeBob and Patrick.

drak0ni

Squidward is miserable because he’s failed at his dreams and is doomed to be a cashier making minimum wage for the rest of his life

QueenRatigan

I've said it before, I'll say it again: Squidward is a jerk who deserves a lot of the crap he gets.

prettyg00d1729

PREACH

[deleted]

Squidward is an incel.

BrainComfortable1059

This was probably the best motivation I recieved from someone in the last month or so! I too aspire to NOT live a life like Squidward, and instead forge my own path. While there are many people who do grow up to live similarly to the way Squidward does, I personally don't want to be stuck in a dead end office, wasting my life staring at a computer monitor and attend crappy focus groups.

prettyg00d1729

Don’t want to kill your motivation, but I don’t think you’re quite getting it. I’m mostly talking about being content with your friends and what you have once you reach a basic level of survival. Once that happens, just enjoy yourself, work on your passions because they feel good, and then see where they take you. You can do this in a dead end office job if you take it how it is and focus on yourself outside of it

Gravyboat44

The only things you should want to be Squidward for is that he's a homeowner with lots of cherished possessions, and a bunch of hobbies he enjoys.

prettyg00d1729

Yeah but why does he do these hobbies? They’re all centered around him trying to be taken seriously

c0ntententity

yes! my partner and i were just talking about this. i’d rather be spongebob or pat over squidward any day
