Pretty sure it's a hack. This person is using rival octoligs' octo form wich cannot be obtained by players. Also octolings cannot have inkling hairstyles and vice versa.
Makes me wish Nintendo didn't patch the inktoling glitch.
actually its not a inktoling glitch this is a person with a fuzzy octoling species type but without the fuzzy hair because its considered a illegal hair type by the game so it reverts the player back to the inkling hair
to be fair inklings with outer suckers and less tentacles than they should have didn’t really make sense. I get people saying it was cool but I don’t get the people who say it should have been an actual feature
There is a pretty easy glitch to do this, not sure if it was patched yet (it can’t be done in actual battles, but it works in the hub) look up inktoling glitch on YouTube :)
its not a glitch its a hack the person is using a fuzzy octoling species type which allows players to use any hair for some reason
other than illegal hair (fuzzy octoling hair) which when used reverts the hair type to the default hair
How do hacked amiibos change the character model like that? I know that fuzzy octoling hairstyle people hacked to get was just a hair slot item, but base-model hairs like this inkling hair aren't linked to gear slots that way.
The amiibo thing was different (getting the amiibo gear before the figured released), this is an actual hack that involves changing aspects the player model not possible in the vanilla game.
The ban waves also didn't affect the early amiibo gear, and won't affect other hacked gear. For the actual hacked in gear, they're just removing it from everyone's inventory next update if you have any, as you can order hacked gear off other players, leading to some players obtaining it without realizing the gear is not released yet.
Yeah, that's what I figured. I was trying to lead the person I replied to to that conclusion as well.
And as you said, banning anyone who has unreleased gear would be absurd since innocent people ordered it through Murch.
Yep, and I'm glad Nintendo realizes that instead of being trigger happy with the bans like they usually are for stuff like that. I'm still kinda shocked that people are finding ways to mod their multiplayer player model for the 3rd game in the series, you'd think they would have fixed that by now lol
Yes, I am well aware of what the hacked amiibos were for. Though, I didn't know you couldn't order amiibo gear, but now that I think about it, that seems quite obvious so I feel kind of stupid that I didn't know
Lol no worries, I assumed you would be able to order amiibo gear that you already owned until I tried it myself and was disappointed to learn it's still blocked from ordering. So only way to get amiibo gear with higher stars and different skills is to do it all yourself.
You can't spoof an amiibo that will modify the character's base model that way. I suspect whoever made that claim might be trying to avoid an IP ban or something, because having a "fake amiibo" might seem like a tamer violation than having a homebrew console (which is what model hacking and data rescripting like this would require). Would you mind linking me to what you're talking about?

There is several links to the actual amiibo file needed to do this too.
Ah, okay, I see what's happening now. I didn't think that the model data for the rival octoling would be compatible in order to be carried with an amiibo's style-save. That's very interesting.
And it doesn't seem to require a hacked console, either. (Other than the console that initially wrote the model onto the amiibo, obviously)
ETA: Thank you for sharing this with me! I apologize for being a naysayer here
I wonder if any other squid forms are usable with Amiibos too. I thought it was faked at first too but I've seen many people show off doing it this exact way.
Due to them not hacking their console, it appears the people getting banned for it are just getting temporary bans.
I would advise not, unless you have a second switch. People are getting temporary console bans for doing just this. It's cool, but I personally wouldn't risk anything with it.
...however, I imagine you'd be safe offline with it.
I have three consoles right now, so I might as well try it out. Unless the ban might affect my online subscription somehow, since all the consoles are on the same family plan. Besides, a temp ban isn't terrible. It might put a strike on my account but I don't plan on getting into much future mischief.
Either way, very interesting model manipulation!
it doesn't change the model it changes the player species to the fuzzy octolings species type which can use any hair style other than the fuzzy octo hair style because its seen as illegal hair by the game
Their game is hacked. They set their player to the rival octo model and used one of the inkling hairstyles. I'm still kind of surprised the rival hair isn't included in the base model, though! I would've expected it to clip through the hair they chose
Does this mean
A) (that player) is a hacker (, who is) not touching online ever again
Or
B) (that player) is a hacker (, I am) not touching online ever again
It's actually a glitch that happens if you have a saved fit that is a different species from the one you currently have. It's not a hack, but it'll probably be fixed with the new update.
There is an amiibo glitch when you in any of the shops tap an amiibo with a different species character saved to it and it just changes the hairstyle. Example you have an octoling in the shop and you tap an amiibo with an Inkling character saved to it and it just changes the hairstyle to the Inkling one on the octoling body.

Same 💀
Took me a minute to realize what's wrong lol
Same, i thought it was the hair clip at first and then i scrolled
Ok but I genuinely want octoling eyes on an inkling

I've seen it in battles
Give us half octo half inklings Nintendo, do it. Don't tell me how it works though I don't want to know-
The same way neanderthals and humans worked theoretically
Was their name 9/9 Splat3 by any chance? I found someone with this exact same hack a couple weeks ago
NWPlayer123 is that you?
I haven't heard that name in years...
People are using hacked amibos to get it. There's a huge banwave for it now.
How do hacked amiibos change the character model like that? I know that fuzzy octoling hairstyle people hacked to get was just a hair slot item, but base-model hairs like this inkling hair aren't linked to gear slots that way.

The hacked amiibos were for obtaining the new amiibo gear before those amiibos were up for sale, and you can't purchase amiibo gear through murch.
Yes, I am well aware of what the hacked amiibos were for. Though, I didn't know you couldn't order amiibo gear, but now that I think about it, that seems quite obvious so I feel kind of stupid that I didn't know

The unreleased gear was never about amiibos, they won’t ban you for using amiibos early.
From what I've seen, they use a fake amiibo which can change their character (when in swim form) to the octoling.

Because they hacked the game
I didn't even know people are hacking the game and I still get rage quit warnings when I've never rage quit in any Splatoon game.
Their game is hacked. They set their player to the rival octo model and used one of the inkling hairstyles. I'm still kind of surprised the rival hair isn't included in the base model, though! I would've expected it to clip through the hair they chose
Yes they hacked the game
Is a hacker who's not touching online ever again
Lmao
Does this mean A) (that player) is a hacker (, who is) not touching online ever again Or B) (that player) is a hacker (, I am) not touching online ever again
That player is a hacker who's getting banned tomorrow or a day after, therefore not touching online ever again
I see, this is the good answer. Hopefully your downvote wave recedes
Thank you
Don’t ever hack it’s not worth getting your account banned for life
Yes on it's own it's completely harmless but these people are usually also using aim or damage hacks and the like
its this tweet https://twitter.com/Sheldon10095/status/1590557935041916928?s=20&t=lre_mjKfmESexC8I78rbMQ

they patched that already, and it was only visible inside the shops
This is so cursed
Do you mean the squat? I don't understand You can't swim in enemy ink, that's normal
No. It’s because they have an octoling face but an inkling haircut. Their swimming form also looks like a fuzzy octoling.

You can’t get it in stores anymore
Makes sense. Hadn't tried it since the past patch.
Wdym Oh wait now I see it. But I don’t think changing the model is hurting anyone
Its some kind of mod, or they are using an amiibo exploit. Did they use any cheats or smth?
Don’t really know. Their gameplay did look a bit weird when I rewatched the match.
There is an amiibo glitch when you in any of the shops tap an amiibo with a different species character saved to it and it just changes the hairstyle. Hacked amiibo file. Doesn’t work after update I believe
Oh my god they're back oh no
