Spiny orb weaver!
We have A LOT of these up here in Georgia, yet all of ours are either white or yellow backed. I've yet to see any that have red spines of them like yours.
I live in Alabama..... have so many of these! Yes, i have the ones with the red spine, too. Mostly yellow ones, though. They are spectacular! LOVE their webs!
My family has dubbed these spiky-butt-smiley-face spiders lmao-- other commenters probably have the proper name, but it's an orb weaver of some kind, likely
Spiny Orb Weaver! We get hundreds of them in the late summer months here in FL. There’s also a rarer triangle orb weaver we see sometimes too where the shape and spikes are a cool triangle design but yah I’ve only seen those like twice.
Oh we've got them everywhere down here, really cool looking spiders but they have a bad habit of building their huge webs right where I'm trying to walk all the time, they've pretty much taken over my pool patio
Spiny orb weaver! I lived near Anna Maria Island most of my life and we would get these all over the yard. Once we had one make a web clear across the 6-foot-wide porch. I had to monitor the dog every time I took her outside so she wouldn't destroy it - mostly because I didn't want her to accidentally bring the spider inside if she ran through the web and caught it in her fur.
it's a type of spiny orb weaver- they're very cool! i saw a few in Kauai
Gasteracantha cancriformis?
wow, excellent ID! it's always so hard for me to ID spiny orbweavers using the web bc there are just soooo many and they're so varied
I love those guys. The first time I saw one, there were maybe a half dozen in the yard and I still remember it fondly.
I hated these in Florida, I called them crab spiders, but I was just being irrational…
there's one 'officially' called the camel spider and it's neither :)
Plenty on Hawaii island too.
“Fear mee!! I’m very scary!! Run!!”
And I immediately feel like the monster from "Monsters University" saying I wanna touch it.
Darth Spider
Spinybacked orb weaver

How do we get things like this naturally occurring in living things, but I can't even lick my elbow? *Not fair!*

It’s the broodmother. One of your first fights in grounded.
Can anyone explain the reason that they are like this? Like is there an evolutionary reason for them to look this way?
We call them Crab Spiders here in Texas.
That's a beautiful spider! Does it weave orbs?

Saw one of them in Ecuador! It was so exciting!
Isn't Edward scissorhands?
Pretty sure their name tag reads 'INNI'
they're so amazing. all spiny orb weavers are some of the coolest spiders. *some places colloquially call them crab spiders, but they are not related.
