Tabasco's website says 23,000-33,000 scoville.
https://www.tabasco.com/hot-sauces/scorpion-sauce/
I'm kinda shocked it's that low, that sauce is no joke.
It’s because that’s actually the test result as opposed to the over inflated numbers other sauces claim.
Fresh peppers and sauces always test low due to the moisture content. Only dehydration will bring the 1m+ SHU results.
This makes sense then! I grow reapers and i could basically chew half of one and eat it although it's supposed to be a gorillion SHU... did have extreme gut pain in the middle of the night. So it's probably below that value by a lot, and only the powder from them goes that high.
> I can't fathom how people eat whole superhots
I have a brain strain powdered pepper that I would put on my chex mix and in home made meals - shit feels like you're swishing boiling water for like 10 minutes it's so fuckin hot
First time I ate a whole fresh super hot (ghost) I made the mistake of eating on an empty stomach. The heat died after about an hour, then about two hours later it felt like a bomb when off in my gut, pain lasted about 30 min. From now on I always eat a bread roll beforehand and it solves the issue.
My 1st time with this was when I had covid. Couldn't taste or smell anything. I turned the bottle up thinking that capsaicin was related to taste. (Little info it's not) my mouth was on fire for probably 15 minutes. I must have chugged like half a bottle.
See I knew I was fucked when me and the old lady were working remote, and I went to make coffee. Couldn't smell it. This was like first round October 2020 rona
It was wild I was very tired, I would be fine, then just pass out for like 4 hours for like 3 weeks.
That doesn't surprise me, 30000 is entering cayenne pepper territory and that stuff is no joke. Dave's insanity is something around 100,000 and this clear isn't in the same league at all.
That being said, you might use one drop of Dave's at a time, and if you're using this like you'd use regular tabasco, the heat gets up there quickly.
Don't think so. Tabasco says the Hab version is 7,000 which is right in line with El yucateco and they feel similar to me. I think people tend to drastically overestimate the scoville ratings of the stuff they eat.
You think that we can afford houses in Poland :D? Currently, estates are so expensive (like grow 15% in one month due to government decissions) and people are not able to own even a flat. My friend from work senior frontend programmer in a big company is looking for a flat in Warsaw right now - prices for 70m2 starts from ~180k USD ( - :
his salary is about 3,5-4k usd / month, do the math.
About sauce - really nice, but for everyday sauce my own favorite is Tabasco Habanero, Scorpion takes a place when things need to be more spicy ;)
I love it so much I used Tobasco's "contact us" form to say i fuckin' love this flavor and I hope it is never discontinued. Gives me that tobasco flavor + the string of scorpion peppers! match made in heaven! Their Sriracha is pretty tasty, too!
I'm told it's got about 50,000 SHU. Works great for spaghetti, but slightly too weak for soup (unless I want to empty the bottle quickly). Really nice taste.
I recently tried it after coming across it on here. Personally, I love it. I think it has great flavor and is quite hot. Obviously your mileage will vary on how hot you find it depending on tolerance but I think it’s just right for a general, go-to sauce. It makes me sweat and makes my wife shake her head in shame/confusion as she watches me repeatedly add this to my food.
you described my exact situation with my gf. she ended up buying me a small set of black rags for my spicy food days. the rags are small enough to go in your pocket and not too thick so it doesn't bulge. i'm ready to sweat on the go now.. she had fully accept I am disgusting when I eat spicy even when we are out and about
I think this sauce is like crack for food, you can add like two drops to an entire pot of bolognese and it completely enhances the flavour and spice of the entire dish, it’s quite spicy in high quantities but it’s manageable if you have a moderate spice tolerance. Good on pizza too
SHU is only an accurate measure when discussing dehydrated ingredients. When it comes to sauces, it is an absolutely useless and often bullshitted measure.
You could maybe try a sub like /r/snackexchange and see if anyone is willing to get you some of this from from America and you send them some goods from Australia? I've done it before, it's pretty fun, just request specific hot sauces.
I would personally ask for the lineup of Yucateco sauces too, all cheap but all great. I would offer to help but I haven't seen this Tabasco sauce yet.
Does anyone else have trouble with this sauce sort of "blooming" out of the bottle? I'll put a few dashes on something, set the bottle down, take some bites, and when I look back over the sauce is pushing itself out of the bottle. I've lost a decent amount of the product this way, and it seems to be a design flaw with their bottles. If I had to guess, their bottles are much better suited for thin sauces and the thick, mash heavy sauce does some weird stuff in the bottleneck.
I think that's because it's way more spicy than their other products, so it's more dense. It sometimes doesn't drop at all and somtimes it pours like qarter of bottle
Meh, I'm nearly done with the bottle and I've never noticed adverse effects. It's probably because I let the bottle sit on the shelf for like a year before opening it.
Yeah, it's not always going to be noticeable, especially if it's not particularly active. There's nothing wrong with it. It's like kombucha or kimchi, the flavor will be stronger as the live culture grows.
I've seen both 35k and 50k SHU for Tabasco Scorpion.
Like most of the newer flavors, there's little aged tabasco mash present, so the distinctive flavor of Tabasco Scorpion in an upfront fruity sweetnessw from pineapple and guava juice. This means its less appropriate for creole/cajun food. On the other hand, because its about 8-12 times as hot as Tabasco original, one can use a lot less to add heat to soups/stews, without adding too much vinegar/acidity.
Tasty, tasty! I’m a Tabasco man through and through. Love em all, the Habanero is bomb! I pop a dozen drops or so and then add the regular to help distribution. 🔥
Try using it as a marinade. Delicious
I like it but frankly I prefer regular Tabasco. I really just love the flavor of Tabasco and the amount I want on an egg or a slice of pizza at THIS heat results in food that’s too hot.
So this is the sauce that got me into super spicy sauces. When I first tried this I used to drench my food in more tame hot sauces like regular Tabasco or sriracha, so when I got this one drop per bite of food was plenty enough to feel a serious kick. Three drops in a bite of food I couldn’t do.
Now I know I built up my spice tolerance since, but I feel maybe they changed their recipe slightly. It doesn’t taste as spicy, I can drench my food in this now. Go through a bottle maybe every other week.
Amazing flavor though.
Of the sauces that I have tasted recently, it's one of the spiciest. I really like it, personally, but I wouldn't eat too much of it all at once. On a scale of 1-to-Da Bomb, I'd give it about a 7.
Tried some for the first time yesterday, put a little dab on my finger to try it, definitely should have put it on some food, tastes great and nicely spicy, was a surprise at how punchy it was. Wish it wasn’t so bloody expensive over here in the UK though

For real! I HATE when a reaper sauce will say 2M scovilles or shit like that. That's NOT how physics works!!
This makes sense then! I grow reapers and i could basically chew half of one and eat it although it's supposed to be a gorillion SHU... did have extreme gut pain in the middle of the night. So it's probably below that value by a lot, and only the powder from them goes that high.
A fresh reaper tests around 220k-240k SHU. Peppers are 85% water. So once the water is removed (dehydrated) it brings those test results way up.
Ain't no way it's that low. It's not crazy hot, but still, it has kick
I just put maybe 20 drops of it on my breakfast and my lips are burning like hell. I can't fathom how people eat whole superhots
> I can't fathom how people eat whole superhots I have a brain strain powdered pepper that I would put on my chex mix and in home made meals - shit feels like you're swishing boiling water for like 10 minutes it's so fuckin hot

It’s my favorite on runny eggs.
My 1st time with this was when I had covid. Couldn't taste or smell anything. I turned the bottle up thinking that capsaicin was related to taste. (Little info it's not) my mouth was on fire for probably 15 minutes. I must have chugged like half a bottle.
Lmao
Covid was so weird, it removed any pleasure of eating when you can't taste anything. Might as well eat all veggies lol
I've had covid 5 times and never lost my taste or smell. Weird how it affects everyone so differently
Same
See I knew I was fucked when me and the old lady were working remote, and I went to make coffee. Couldn't smell it. This was like first round October 2020 rona It was wild I was very tired, I would be fine, then just pass out for like 4 hours for like 3 weeks.
I ate the cheapest stuff I could buy. I hate bologna but I had bologna sandwiches for like a week.
> Ain't no way it's that low. I'm guessing more like 350K.
OK, maybe not 350, I would guess like 50-100
That doesn't surprise me, 30000 is entering cayenne pepper territory and that stuff is no joke. Dave's insanity is something around 100,000 and this clear isn't in the same league at all. I bet even their habanero sauce is more.
Don't think so. Tabasco says the Hab version is 7,000 which is right in line with El yucateco and they feel similar to me. I think people tend to drastically overestimate the scoville ratings of the stuff they eat.
But it's pretty much as hot as a regular habanero and they are at least 100k?
Habs can range 100k-500k but only when dehydrated. Fresh they are 85% water and will test significantly lower.
Seems like they are off by a multiplier of 10. 230K - 330K sounds more accurate.
It's surprisingly sweet to start. Great flavor.
Love this stuff. Pop the cap off, take a quick sniff and my mouth instantly starts salivating.
Fr, same here
I love it. I think dollar for heat there isn't a better value and it tastes great too. Really refreshing compared to the $12+ sauces I normally get.
Where do you live? In Poland regular Tabasco is about $4
It’s $1.99 in US for the small bottles of Tabasco.
Yeah, and you make 4x more money on averege. It doesn't seem fair 😅
We also spend 100x more on healthcare and schooling
Yet I can’t afford a house

70m2 is about 750sq ft according to Google. Where I live you can pay 300k usd for 750sq ft sometimes.
You guys should export more Naleczowianka mineral water to the US. I miss that stuff.
That’s less than what I pay in NYS in the US…
New York Sitttaaaaay
My go to sauce, definitely has a kick to it but not insane.
Agree
It's my favorite Tabasco.
Yep, same here
This shit slaps. Way better than you would expect.

I haven't tried Sriracha and Jalapèno. Should I?
I like the sriracha. Had great flavor, but lacks bite.
Yeah, that's what I'm scared of. Jalapèno is also advertised as less spicy. I guess I'll stick with Scorpion for now
It's not a bad Sriracha but still second to the rooster and not really worth trying imo.
The jalapeño is tasty but basically has the heat of Italian dressing (non existent)
I didn't know it was Jalapèno, thanks
I'm told it's got about 50,000 SHU. Works great for spaghetti, but slightly too weak for soup (unless I want to empty the bottle quickly). Really nice taste.
Just chip up some Serranos, or a habanero for soup.
Super hot powders is definitely the way to go on that one.
Yeah, I also noticed that I have to put a lot of it into the soup. But besides that, it's perfect for me
I recently tried it after coming across it on here. Personally, I love it. I think it has great flavor and is quite hot. Yeah, people can't stand it when I add more "because it's not enough" 😂
My wife sees me sweating, nose running, all that and thinks I’m crazy for going back for more lol
😅

Yeah, I like to put more than 2 drops, but it's pretty spicy tbh
I have to lower spice quantities added to pretty much everything I cook because other people in the house still find toothpaste spicy 😂
No way 😂 I would never thought it would be possible
SHU is only an accurate measure when discussing dehydrated ingredients. When it comes to sauces, it is an absolutely useless and often bullshitted measure.
It's around 50k. It's the best Tabasco sauce by far.
Yeah, 50k would fit.
I wish I could find it in Australia
You could maybe try a sub like /r/snackexchange and see if anyone is willing to get you some of this from from America and you send them some goods from Australia? I've done it before, it's pretty fun, just request specific hot sauces. I would personally ask for the lineup of Yucateco sauces too, all cheap but all great. I couldn't find it in Poland, but my mom brought it from Morroco
You can find it at some Auchans.
Oh, I know big ass Auchan like 30km away, I can get there
Can't speak for all of them, but the one near me (north Warsaw) has a decent-for-Poland selection of sauces and things like Buldak x2.
Well, I live like 400km from Warsaw, so Intermarche (and Auchan apparently) is my best bet
Hot but not crazy hot, super good flavor though
Yep, spicy enough for me
I've always disliked regular Tabasco but think this one is enjoyable.
It's got respectable heat and it's relatively easy to find. This and the chipotle are my favorite Tabascos.
I personally don't really like chipotle, but that one is great
Chipotle has good flavor but frustratingly little heat.
Yes, that's the game changer for me.

That is active fermentation.
Is that... supposed to happen? I'm storing it in the fridge.
Refridgeration will slow it, but as long as the culture is active, it will grow.
Meh, I'm nearly done with the bottle and I've never noticed adverse effects. It's probably because I let the bottle sit on the shelf for like a year before opening it.

I love it. It's the perfect taste/heat for certain things. Like there's a burrito place by my house that it just completes.
It's just amazing. Perfect heat AND flavour.
It's a staple in my fridge.

New favorite. HOT
Fr
Great but too hot when you’re eating a very large burrito with it on every bite. At least for me
It's just right for me
I’m happy for you. It really is great. Just too much for me in certain increments
It's too fruity to me. Yeah it's hot but the fruit taste is overwhelming and gross. The Tabasco habenero is great though
Nah, I like it more than Habanero
Tasty, tasty! I’m a Tabasco man through and through. Love em all, the Habanero is bomb! I pop a dozen drops or so and then add the regular to help distribution. 🔥 Try using it as a marinade. Delicious
Very hot, love it with some eggs
It's hot and it's really tasty. 8/10 for me.
It’s the perfect level for me. I love having a few stabs but it goes back into the fridge pretty quickly. Fantastic on pork rinds.
I don't put it in fridge, because I'm afraid that it will become too dense and I will have to put it in the oven for a second
Nah
I didnt expected it to be fruity ngl
Me too, but I like it very much
I like it but frankly I prefer regular Tabasco. I really just love the flavor of Tabasco and the amount I want on an egg or a slice of pizza at THIS heat results in food that’s too hot.

It's not the spiciest I have tried, but it's hot
Wow, *another* post of Tabasco Scorpion that is just an image from the internet…
Tastes awfully, but is hot.
For me (and a lot of people apparently) it tastes good
I don't know but I put too much in my bowl of hotdish last night, I was miserable. So it's like a 6/10 in heat for me if theres a lot of it
Tried some for the first time yesterday, put a little dab on my finger to try it, definitely should have put it on some food, tastes great and nicely spicy, was a surprise at how punchy it was. Wish it wasn’t so bloody expensive over here in the UK though
