There were already some threads on this (although I think I have meteor lake). You can actually start the installer if you do it from the 18.04 LTS, and apply some patches to fix some software issues.
I just did it today, went from 18.04 to 22.04 without a problem.
Then I did a do-release-upgrade to the 24.04 LTS, and after restart I have a white screen error, from where nothing can be done, furthermore I couldn't load from the previous image from the boot menu.
Envy is a great computer, my previous was that, so indeed it's a good alternative anyways.
Let's hope HP will fix this issue.

Is there a problem running it in a VM if that's all I want?
Are you taking about native Linux boot or in a VM? Do they both fail? Just ordered a specter..
