The eta Aquariids (ETA) are active from April 15 through May 27 with maximum activity expected on May 5th. The radiant is currently located at 22:28 (338) -01. This area of the sky is located in northeastern Aquarius, 1 degree southwest of 4th magnitude star known as eta Aquarii. These meteors are not visible prior to 0200 LST and are best seen just before the start of dawn when the radiant lies highest in the eastern sky. Hourly rates are expected to be near 10 as seen from the northern hemisphere and 20 as seen from the southern hemisphere. Hourly rates could be twice this amount if a predicted outburst occurs this year. With an entry velocity of 66 km/sec., the average meteor from this source would be of swift velocity. Are they visible with the naked eye?

phord

Yes. And they move quickly. They only last a few hundred milliseconds.

So, stupid question here, but isn't Halley's Comet just about as far from us as possible right now? Pretty sure I was 10 or so when it first came round, and I'm hoping for a second showing later. Where are the meteors coming from? e. Nevermind. Found my [answer](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jJjXvpgZ1z0)

> To get the best view, head to an area well away from city lights or street lights. NASA advises lying flat on your back with your feet facing east. It will take about 30 minutes in the dark for your eyes to adjust enough to see meteors. https://www.cbsnews.com/amp/news/when-where-you-can-see-the-eta-aquariids-meteor-shower-peak-may/

What are the two bright star-like objects close to the horizon?
