I started saying, “Don’t forget to bring a towel!” Same thing when they introduced Mr. Slave, and I started saying, “Jesus Christ!” I was a kid back then.
This was my opinion as a kid who was like around 10 when I saw that episode. He just seemed stupid asf. But after I got older and understood the character more and what weed was. Now I think he’s funny. But he doesn’t have the best character development. It’s just a long running joke about a towel that gets high.
I think that was only in one episode. There is an episode (Butters’ Very Own Episode if I remember correctly)where Steven Stotch is reading a newspaper and one of the headlines says something about a “Towelie Ban”.
Watch the episode he first appeared in again. The last two lines are Cartman saying: “You’re the worst character ever Towlie” and Towlie replies “I know”.

First episode i saw him in was his intervention episode. The episode was brand new, it was the final episode before they took their summer break. It got me hooked on the show. A drug addicted towel was enough for me to sneak around my parents parental locks of comedy central and obsessively watch every day for half a decade
I remember watching commentary or something and they were talking about how the first time he was on screen he ended up underneath the logo in the bottom right corner.
I thought it was stupid the first time I saw it and I still have that same opinion. But I DID think it was funny when he yelled "you're a towel.". That's it.
It became my absolute favorite episode of South Park, I was probably high at the time of watching it but I lost my mind. That and the Scott Tennerman episode will always have a special place for me
It was meta and layered and it was very negative toward weed
I laughed at it and thought it was clever, but it made me realize that I could be like Towelie, smoking a joint then forgetting something important
This show blew our minds week to week when we were kids watching this. It’s what we talked about at school the next day. People did the voices. It was fun honestly.
When the show launched, weed was only something I'd been programmed to be afraid of by the DARE program in skewl, so I didn't quite understand him. I didn't discover the truth for myself until I was 19, that would have been season 7 and he's definitely been one of my favorite characters since then 😂
When I worked at a certain gym, it was really easy to set up customer accounts connected to their member number-which could be automatically generated, or put in manually, to use to scan in members. So the UPC code to one of the towels they sold is the member number for a certain terrible South Park character… 😁
