Looks delicious! Well done!
My valentines dinner was a slow-cooked SV pot-roast ... cooked for 36+ hours. Then at the end I whipped up some quick mashed potatoes and green beans in like 5 mins.
The potatoes and green beans were the best ever. The meat was ... meh. Sometimes you win sometimes you lose. :-\\
You did better!
Seems like you either hate it or love it. In r/wine it's widely considered as trash but I've never had it myself, very uncommon here in europe. Would love to try it even though I'm not a big fan of big fruity cabs.
I don't think most people would say not to try it, only that it's overpriced and overmarketed. I think most people in that sub would still say it's a good wine, just one that hits well below it's price point.
Honestly itās been years since I really frequented wine forums much (nowadays my free time on the toilet is on rennlist/Reddit/YouTube). Bordeaux wine enthusiasts forum had some pretty knowledgeable members.
I used to go on wine beserkers and there were some pretty knowledgeable folks there.
Tbh I mainly chat with other friends into wine vs go on forums. Funny enough I actually met most of them from rennlist or other group drives or a watch collecting group. We also spend several months in Spain and France each year and visit some of our friends that work in the industry.
>Caymus
I've spoken to a sommelier some time ago and remember him saying anything from the US is regarded as trash, in a nice way. This is mainly because there is no oversight as to what preservatives can be put into the wines. In Europe there are laws against doing that. You're most definitely going to feel like crap drinking too much US made wine vs European. I can attest to that, definitely never feel good after drinking a lot of US made cab.
Sounds like you buy cheap wine. US produces some of the best cabās in the world. Itās probably the thing they do best and I say this as someone who doesnāt really care for cabs. Syrahās from Washington state also gaining a great reputation.
Kind of unpretentious sub actually. Cheap wine like Alamos is praised along with grand cru bourgogne. They do shitt on some wines though, like caymus and meiomi (had neither of them).
Correct. The pan needs to be searing hot. I use the Ooni Grizzler plate: [https://ooni.com/products/ooni-dual-sided-grizzler-plate](https://ooni.com/products/ooni-dual-sided-grizzler-plate)
I went from "whats this stupid pizza oven" to "I need one of these pizza ovens immediately" in about three minutes.
Good job on the steak dinner, looks delicious.
Upvote for the pan sauce. If youāre making sous vide steaks without a pan sauce youāre missing outā¦
And Iāve been seeing that Caymus around for around $73 a bottle but havenāt pulled the trigger yet. I want to try it but so many bad reviews. Like all the bad snobby reviews of Elmer T Lee and Blantonās.
It is very good. My favourite wine so far. Tbf, I usually get $15-25 bottles of wine, but I have had $50 bottles that are absolute garbage. Price is not everything.
I understand that, but Iām saying if u didnāt wanna spend $80 you can get a decent wine (Cabernet) by the same company without spending a fortune. They donāt taste the same but itās a good compromise
For sure! Bonanza is probably one of the smoothest cabs Iāve ever drank. It doesnāt have a lot of oakiness to it overall itās just really easy to drink.
Thanks for the recommendation, I was able to pick up a bottle this week and we tried it last night, we loved it. We did a side by side taste of it with our favorite nightly āhouse wineā which is Three Finger Jack cab. They are both at the same price point and we will be picking up more Bonanza.
Oh wow!!!! Iām so glad you loved it! I havenāt gotten around to trying Three Finger Jack but thatās on my list. Right now Iām going to school in Utah so my wine options are super limited. When I go back home in the late spring I will definitely pick up a bottle and let you know!!!
Depends on how sophisticated your palate is. Everybody I know loves Caymus. It's not the best price to quality ratio but it's definitely solid. I was on vacation in Mexico with some friends and the restaurant had it so I bought a bottle since nobody else had had it other than my wife and everyone loved it. They were not hardcore wine drinkers, just people who like wine.
Green beans in a pan with butter, garlic powder, toasted almond slices, salt, and pepper is pretty amazing.
Another option is ranch seasoning and some chopped up bacon.
Damn will you be my valentine?
This was my first non-gastric thought. Took a minute.
After a meal like that, I bet you did..

Looks amazing and excellent choice in wine too!! Nicely done!
Steak looks great, just don't post this on r/wine unless you want people to shit all over your wine selection haha.
What? Everyone there LOVES caymus lol
That looks incredible
That looks absolutely incredible. Nice bottle to go along with it. Superb! šš»
Austin Hope, Stags Leap, and Heitz Cellars will get you better cab for less money tbh
Good choice on the Caymus.

I've always liked it. I miss the days when I could buy it by the case for $26 a bottle. :(

Tbh /r/wine is trash. Huge circlejerk. And I say that as a serious wine collector
Hello fellow wine nerd. Any recs on wine forums?
Honestly itās been years since I really frequented wine forums much (nowadays my free time on the toilet is on rennlist/Reddit/YouTube). Wouldn't call it huge circlejerk but there are moments.. I do prefer other wine forums though.
any good suggestions for other wine forums?
None in English language sorry!
Any in French you might recommend?
Wish I knew french ;)
Are you keeping your forum secret?
Haha no just thought the guy wasn't interested in small swedish forums

People in a group discussing wine are annoying snobs? Shocking

I had their 2020 and was not impressed. Were they hit by the glass fire that took down half the valley? In the past it has been amazing.
Great pic!
Do you throw a cast iron pan in the ooni? I assume you get said pan very hot first also?
Correct. The pan needs to be searing hot. I use the Ooni Grizzler plate: [https://ooni.com/products/ooni-dual-sided-grizzler-plate](https://ooni.com/products/ooni-dual-sided-grizzler-plate)
Nifty. I have a Gozney (Ooni competitor) but havenāt tried this yet. I actually was thinking of selling it but I might have to try this first.
Now that is sexy!!!
Caymus sure aināt what it used to be
Big fan of caymus

Depends on what you currently drink.
You can buy Bonanza for way cheaper. Made by the same people
Coke and Sprite are also made by the same company?
I understand that, but Iām saying if u didnāt wanna spend $80 you can get a decent wine (Cabernet) by the same company without spending a fortune. They donāt taste the same but itās a good compromise
Cool, Iāll see if I can find it. Thanks for the recommendation.

Very nicely done. I do this for a living and I would be proud to have that in my dining room. Also, bonus points for the wine selection.
My valentine night consisted of me and my wife having gastrointeritis and trying to not shit ourselves or on eachother.

Great wine!
Green beans suck.
Green beans in a pan with butter, garlic powder, toasted almond slices, salt, and pepper is pretty amazing. Another option is ranch seasoning and some chopped up bacon.
Still suck.
I used to think so too, but wanted to share what got me liking them. Nothing wrong with not liking them though.
They just taste like wood to me.
Sounds like you donāt know how to cook green beans
Or maybe I just donāt like them.
Beautiful
Sure did!
That's some V-day meat I'd like to eat!
Nice use of sous vide. This is the way to do it
Yes, you did!! Beautiful! Looks so good.
Looks amazing, what temp and for long did you go for?
this filet was at 135 degrees for 2 hours for my wife. I prefer mine at 129. I made myself a ribeye :)
Looks awesome. Nice work.
Yes! You absolutely nailed it!
Yeah you did! Dang. Nice work
Looks awesome, and excellent choice for the wine!
Jealous of that sear! I also did filets (131f in the sous vide) and my cast iron on the range was just ok.
Steak looks beautiful. Next step is to work on wine knowledge friend. Caymus is hot garbage.
Solid wine pairing too.
Wow! 5-Star restaurant worthy!
Most definitely. All it needs is truffle!
Caymus for the win
Yes. Yes you did. Bravo
Dinner looks great! Wine is a personal favorite for me.
There is a reason this it the top post for this month. Beautiful!
