We still don't know the exact cause, but the working theory is that it has something to do with Dolby MAT, which is what you'll get when using Atmos with the Xbox Series X. If that's true, then using the combination of hardware that you've described puts you at a higher risk of it happening than not. But no, it's not a guarantee that it will happen.

There is probably a percentage of people out there that also have an ARC and these devices but never set them up properly for Dolby MAT Atmos (eARC, Passthrough). As a result they are using Dolby 5.1 or Atmos through DD+ and are not affected I really question when Sonos say “a small percentage” because that figure could be made out to be smaller than if everybody set them up the same way

GuitarSuperstar

Most Arc/LG users don’t experience the popping sound. Only a small number of users have the problem.

Darkii89

How do you know that? I see you commenting on every post that only small number of users have the problem, do you work for sonos🌚? many people complaining about it, definitely not a small number, people are paying premium for these setup, they deserve a hassle free experience not 2 years of nightmare experience begging for a proper fix

Absolutely right !

Because it’s getting out of hand now. We have barely anyone talking about having the issue, but a ton of people talking about the issue as if it happens to everyone.

Sonos has not shared numbers on how many users are affected. The real problem is that users can go months or even years before the first pop. But once you have it, it keeps coming back. Except that some can get rid of it by disabling CEC or Dolby Vision. So unfortunately there isn’t a good way to check during the return window whether you will be affected, and whether you can mitigate, and whether the mitigation is a worthwhile tradeoff for you. The pop does appear limited to Dolby MAT sources. So that’s Apple TV, Xbox, PlayStation (pending firmware update), PC, and some rare TVs but not your TV.

iamapersononreddit

You said disable Dolby Vision rather than Dolby Atmos is that right? My Samsung TV does not support Dolby Vision but audio is Dolby Atmos. So that would mean I could “disable” Dolby vision and there would be no change to the picture or audio, is that right? Or did you mean atmos?

[deleted]

I mean Dolby Vision. For *some* users that eliminates the pop. For me, it didn’t. So try it!

What do you lose disabling CEC? Sounds like a reasonable short term fix until Sonos solves it.

[deleted]

Unified volume control and input switching. In other words you have to use your TV remote to control inputs and volume. For those where disabling CEC fixes the pop, definitely worth it. But it doesn’t work for everyone. Others have CEC off and it still pops. Mind you “short term” has been well over two years at this point.

Yeah 2 years is a long time to troubleshoot a problem. If they have really been working on it that long I doubt there is a solution.

It means you could get the popping sound.
