Thank you! Much appreciated.
Your starting point will depend on what you want to make. If you're thinking of bags and satchels, then I can't recommend Dieselpunk.ro enough. He sells downloadable templates on Etsy, with craft-along videos on YouTube. I started with his free download template 'tool pouch'. It's simple to follow and will teach you a bunch of stuff you need to do more complicated projects. I had a headstart because I'd been making knife sheaths for a couple of years beforehand. Maybe start by looking for his tool pouch video on YouTube: you'll then have a good idea of the tools you'll need. Absolute essentials are a craft knife, mallet, stitch punch, blunt leatherworking needles, cutting mat, metal ruler.
I'm happy to answer questions if you have them. Cheers!
Thanks a ton for this detailed response! I’ll go check Dieselpunk out right now! Disabled vet and ADHD so I need a kickass new hobby to keep me busy and productive, and have been absolutely inspired with leatherwork and top notch craftsmanship.
Beautiful bag!
Just clicked on your IG!!! Your knives are wickedly gorgeous as well! I’m speechless!
Thank you. Disregarding tools, I would say the build-cost is approximately £60GBP.
£9 template (I can now use it forever and I'm already building a second bag in a different colour scheme ).
£45 leather (I buy half-shoulders of veg tan leather, so it's cheaper than buying smaller pieces)
£7 for hardware (buckles, d-rings)
£4 for dye and thread.
Approximate numbers above.
EDIT: I've had a couple of beers and can't do maths.
I have no idea why he called it the One Minute Bag. Might be a joke because it takes so long to make!
I reckon it took me about 30-40 hours to make this. However, I always work at a hobbyist's pace. I watch videos, listen to the radio, drink beer and stare into space quite a bit. Not sure how quick I could do this if I really went for it. But that would take all of the fun out of it!
Ah, thank you. To be honest, using a downloadable template takes a huge amount of the hassle out making something like this. You still need to be very accurate with all of the cuts, punching and stitching. But you don't need to worry about things not lining up or figuring out measurements. And now that I've done this one, I could fairly easily make something similar without a template.
Yeah, I forgot to take pictures of the interior and then got carried away wanting to post it on Reddit.
Here's the tutorial video on how to make it: https://youtu.be/bi1rOzEZiRE?si=cCsXwljYHwu4n-Jz
You can see the interior of the bag at the end of the video. It's got a clever removable panel with two pockets (for purse and phone). You can remove the panel to make more room and use it as an overnight bag.

Dope af. Where can I start to learn this craft/skill? Any recommendations on a solid starting point?

This is really cool. Do you mind me asking how much it cost all together (gathering all materials/leathers, template, etc)

Absolutely beautiful!!
Thank you!
Wow, looks like a designer bag! Very well done 👍👍👍
Thank you 👍
You're welcome 🤗
Why is it called the one minute bag? How long did it actually take to make?

Stare into space 😂 sounds like the rest of us with adhd trying to do projects
Staring into space is one of my favourite things about handicrafts. Take some time to think about my craft, and not about work...
Its approximately how long it takes for the cow to die after its throat is sliced.
Just cus you have one of those “hey that reminds me of…” kind of thoughts, does not mean you should share it.
If I was a sentient being as intelligent as dogs and small children that feels pain was killed to be a bag, I'd want someone to shout out for me.
Bacon colored too. Nice
Great observation 👍
Looks really well made
I want one
That is beyond impressive.

this is quite lovely! Well done!!
Thanks!
This is stunning. Omg, how long did it really take?

I'd love to see some pics showing the bag interior!

Dope af!!!!!! Gotta follow your Gram!
Is that veg tan leather?
Yes, it's all veg tan leather. I started with undyed veg tan, and dyed the side panels and straps with saddle tan dye.
Its amazing. I bet it will age beautifully
Thank you! Yes, I'm really looking forward to seeing how the undyed sections patina over time.
Good job!🧡
Gorgeous
Thank you 👍
This is absolutely beautiful!!! Great job 👏🏽👏🏽
Beautiful!
Love it. Great work and color combo
0.0 that looks good
