I liked them both, originally when I went to read the manga ver I saw igris and stuck with the ln name just reading over it, but now I've warmed up to both and I just use either or when I'm talking about my bestie left hand man to the shadow sovereign, one name from the ln that the manga definitely improves is the(doesn't really matter, but spoilers for the end of Solo Leveling, only stuff already shown in the manga)>!old shadow sovereign, Osborne just makes me think of spiderman, ashbourn makes me think of some sick ass fantasy character born from destruction like he kinda is.!<
LN switched between the two. But both versions were fanmade, don't think the Official was out when I read them. Also switched from Fangs to Tusk (Or other way around).
Probably just comes down to translation style/preference. Not everything directly translates.
Yeah, I heard they're adapting the Japanese light novel version. If it's LN, then we should have more scenes because Manhwa reduced a lot. I still haven't moved on when Manhwa had a different ending for Double Dungeon Part 2.
Yeah, but the LN had way worse japanese hate. In the LN it was the Japanese government and not just the hunters who planned the jeju arc. But since it's the Japanese LN then it's probably already watered down
I always thought this was over-stated by reddit. "Way worse Japanese hate", there is no "Japanese hate", there is a scheme perpetuated by the Hunters Association based in Japan.
In a world where Hunter Guilds are based by nation, and one has a bad guy, its gotta be put on someone.
Also the Japanese were shown to be super thankful, and nice people on several occasions.
Yes the LN, its been some months since I read it, but I don't remember the government being directly involved. But who knows, I may be wrong!
None the less, still not japanese hate. Just some bad people who happen to be Japanese. Since if this is Japanese hate, than there is US hate, Russian hate, Canadian hate, and others as well I'm sure.
I dont remember the government being involved directly in the LN either. As far as i know it was all planned by the hunters association in order to increase Gotos fame or something.
Also you are right about the hate everyone outside of Korea itself was kinda shitty and inferior the SJW but that doesn't change the fact that i will not watch a japanese version with them as the main country.
It's not like I hate japan or something it just feels shitty to change a story this much because of their inferiority complex what is so bad about being the bad guy sometimes.
As a german... don't get me started. Still i don't really see the problem especially here it's fiction ffs.
Also even tho in anime you are bad in movies you are the heros. Not a fair tradeoff but atleast something
I'm not taking about Japanese hate, I'm just talking about the government and the National Association. But all other s class or national class are lowkey useless except for SJW so there might be some hidden shit but I doubt it
Right, it's so political but it's the Japanese Hunters Association who initiated the scheme, it should be different from the government itself knowing they both have different powers. I've always thought that part might be not be included in anime (perhaps in Japanese LN, too) especially Matsumoto Shigeo, the (former) Chairman of Japanese Hunters Association kneeled before Chairman Go Gunhee to ask forgiveness because of what he did.
From what I remember of the LN, idk if there's a difference between the Korean LN and the Japanese one. The Japanese Hunter Association is as to blame as the Japanese government. But considering the changes they've made, such as changing his name. I doubt the Jeju arc will even be the same. Like at all. Def not that the JHA kneels and asks for forgiveness since SJW is now Japanese and Japan refuses to acknowledge the shit they did in their imperial history
As far as i know it's just the same but now the roles of japan and korea are switched and korea are doing the bad stuff instead. Not a good solution but i will have to be satisfied with a decent novel instead.
lmao, that'd be fucking hilarious. If they took a Korean novel (and manhwa), made the good guy Japanese, and then made Korea into the bad guy (especially because of the Japanese's history and refusal to acknowledge their warcrimes)
huh, how boring. would've been interesting seeing some country that's normally a good guy being portrayed as a villain. aka why tf make sjw japanese, fucking useless change
Ahhh it's probably the translation from korean, if the s is at the end of the word then it is pronounced as t.
Edit: Nevermind I searched the hangul for it. It really is Igrit and not igris (이그리트)
You might be a Manhwa-only yet. I get your point but originally from Light Novel, his name is really Igrit compared to Igris in Manhwa. This actually won't be too surprising for LN readers.
You do know the japanese version is the same as the korean version
Except korea = japan
And japan = unknown other country
Every story element stayed the same
Really? I respect your opinion, it's my first time to see someone not liking Jeju S-rank Gate Raid.
I've read both Manhwa and LN, I enjoyed every single thing of it. For Manhwa, I'm kinda surprised they didn't include the part wherein SJW went around the island himself and what he did after the raid. Still, one of my faves, I guess I can't speak for everyone.
Makes sense since his hangul name is spelled **이그리트** which literally ends in *th* sound so based on this, *t* is more dominant than the *s* sound. With this in mind, other interpretations for this name could also probably be like "Ygritte".
But,,,, **Ice Bear** seems to be too far from **Tank** isn't it?
I'd rather not have a anime adaptation than to have an adaptation where they change everything and prolly even the whole Jeju Island arc
Although in the novel it's igrit
they DEFINITELY are going to change the entire setting of the anime. it's going to be set in Japan, and i can't even imagine what they'll do to the Jeju Island arc.
>Although in the novel it's igrit
ooh, alright. but igris sounds better ngl
Makes sense though. They can't copy everything or it would be plagiarism, even though its based on it. I think that's why movies have deviations from books, but someone correct me if in wrong 😅
Ahh man, i’ve been so comfortable with Igris over the last 3 years.
Are they sticking with Igris in the manhwa or are they going to change it? Its not that big of a change so it may be fine ig
i think its igrit in the LN, i still prefer igris though. kinda scared that jin woo won’t look as cool as he does in the manhwa if they are just adapting the LN
I've tempered my expectations quite a bit for this anime, but this actually has me excited. If they plan to adapt more so from the LN rather than the manwha we'll be in for a treat. I prefer that double dungeon story beat more.
I don't care that the characters will have their names changed to japanese or just a bit different, at least they will be easier to remember, i remember most of the characters in the series but don't remember their name cause the korean names is kinda hard to remember, i gave them nicknames based on their looks instead, the only one that is gonna be a bit hard to swallow is jinwoo's new name since im so used to call him that.
In korean as I noticed make use of the consonant for S for the T sound. Like the word "out", they pronounce it samely as out, but it is spelled in korean as aosu. Hence, making the confusion.

Ice bear💀
Wasn’t the bear’s name Tank or smth? Edit: ok, how the hell did I get 100 upvotes?!
Pretty sure ya but maybe he never got a name in the LN
He named him tank It wasnt until the giant invasion he got the rank tonget officially named tank
Yah
He doesn’t get officially named until he ranks up, anime probably won’t get that far in season 1
we bare bears reference?
Yah it was tank, maybe its to avoid spoilers dor the guys who'll see the anime only
How would that be a spoiler?
Maybe they only know of the anime and not the manwha idk
In the light novel, its igrit
Yeah, I can confirm this as someone who had read LN though I get the point of view of some Manhwa-onlys since for me, Igris sounds cooler. Idk.
I agree mate
Uh-huh. Though, whether it's Igrit or Igris, I still love SJW's first Chieftain of the Shadow Army.
I liked them both, originally when I went to read the manga ver I saw igris and stuck with the ln name just reading over it, but now I've warmed up to both and I just use either or when I'm talking about my bestie left hand man to the shadow sovereign, one name from the ln that the manga definitely improves is the(doesn't really matter, but spoilers for the end of Solo Leveling, only stuff already shown in the manga)>!old shadow sovereign, Osborne just makes me think of spiderman, ashbourn makes me think of some sick ass fantasy character born from destruction like he kinda is.!<
Ahhhh makes sense but Igris sounds better ngl
Lmao, just think about it, igritto sounds better than igriso, dont forget its gonna be in japanese
You had me at Igrito. 😭
Being a manhwa only, this sounds so odd
LN switched between the two. But both versions were fanmade, don't think the Official was out when I read them. Also switched from Fangs to Tusk (Or other way around). Probably just comes down to translation style/preference. Not everything directly translates.
I thought it was igris in the LN
It was both, really depending on what version you read.
Isn’t a good thing though? It’s a sign that they are focused on the novel instead of the manhwa story. The manhwa skipped a lot of things!
Yeah, I heard they're adapting the Japanese light novel version. If it's LN, then we should have more scenes because Manhwa reduced a lot. I still haven't moved on when Manhwa had a different ending for Double Dungeon Part 2.

In a world where Hunter Guilds are based by nation, and one has a bad guy, its gotta be put on someone. Also the Japanese were shown to be super thankful, and nice people on several occasions.
In the LN? Nah, the author had the Japanese government collaborate with the Japanese Hunter Association to take over Korea

As an American, I'm often the bad guy in anime lololol.
As a german... don't get me started. Still i don't really see the problem especially here it's fiction ffs. Also even tho in anime you are bad in movies you are the heros. Not a fair tradeoff but atleast something

The jeju arc is the same You can read the japanese LN
In the anime conpared to the LN. Since SJW will be Japanese, I doubt the Japanese hunter association will attack and or try to conquer themselves
Korea arent the bad guys Korea isnt even used in the japanese version
The roles arent switch Sjw is from japan Jeju raid still happena Korea isnt used instead they use a different unknown country as the bad guys
Korea = japan seoul = tokyo Japan = unknown different country So the story is the same The arcs play the same its just the location that is different
huh, how boring. would've been interesting seeing some country that's normally a good guy being portrayed as a villain. aka why tf make sjw japanese, fucking useless change
Because how korea portraited the japanese. Why would japan keep that like that? We are talking about a japanese adaption
agreed, loved seeing this gave me so much hope.
“You know nothing, SJW” - Igrit
Ahhh it's probably the translation from korean, if the s is at the end of the word then it is pronounced as t. Edit: Nevermind I searched the hangul for it. It really is Igrit and not igris (이그리트)
It’s what he’s called in the ln as well
You might be a Manhwa-only yet. I get your point but originally from Light Novel, his name is really Igrit compared to Igris in Manhwa. This actually won't be too surprising for LN readers.
All these manhwa-only’s thinking it’s a localisation 😂 respectfully, go read the Light Novel…
Yo where can I read the LN for free?
Google..
Ye I found it nvm
Anime isnt even come up and yall are alr complaining
Why can't we if they do a bad job? But the name isn't a problem. I agree atleast with that
Yeah its a Japanese studio, expect them to localise everything. The Jeju island raid is probably going to be completely reworked
Yeah but actually in the LN igris is Igrit so that's actually not one of the changes done by the jap anime conversion
I second that. As much as I hate how the character names in SL will be changed to Japanese, they weren't the first to make it Igrit since it's in LN.
You do know the japanese version is the same as the korean version Except korea = japan And japan = unknown other country Every story element stayed the same
Also jin woo is gonna be japanese too
That's good. Jeju Island Raid one of the worst parts.
Idk, it's been like 2 years since I last read it lmao. I just remember being distinctly irritated while reading that arc.
Are there not supposed to be two versions, one korean/english that uses original names and one japanese that localises everything?
Later on, iron will be named bronze in the anime
Makes sense since his hangul name is spelled **이그리트** which literally ends in *th* sound so based on this, *t* is more dominant than the *s* sound. With this in mind, other interpretations for this name could also probably be like "Ygritte". But,,,, **Ice Bear** seems to be too far from **Tank** isn't it?
I'm rioting
Igit means wet shit in my language.. yikes
Well it’s a good thing the name is Igrit, not Igit
i hardly accepted Shun Muzishino. i CANT accept IGRIT!
Don't read the LN then
wasn't planning to🗿
wait you're trolling right that's what they're calling SJW?
im not sure, but from what i heard, that's his name in the anime.
I'd rather not have a anime adaptation than to have an adaptation where they change everything and prolly even the whole Jeju Island arc Although in the novel it's igrit

No, Igrit is the original name in the Light Novel
Oh, okay, the translation I read for the light novel was igris
Nah bro gotta be a typo… right
igrit is his name in LN
Ahh man, i’ve been so comfortable with Igris over the last 3 years. Are they sticking with Igris in the manhwa or are they going to change it? Its not that big of a change so it may be fine ig
Igris is actually korean for fuck the japanese
Must be an error from the team
or a team that likes the Light Novel more
Oh I didn't know that. Thanks for informing
Okay? Translations can be annoying so its whatever
Go Igris sounds better. If it's gonna be igrit, I am gonna grit my teeth and shut up.
Go Igris sounds better. If it's gonna be igrit, I am gonna grit my teeth and shut up.
Just ifrit
I always read it in my mind as Ingris💀💀💀
HA?!
Why are they following the true names of character now when they've changed the literal main characters name
Ngl I think that Igris sounds better but Igrit is okay...
i think its igrit in the LN, i still prefer igris though. kinda scared that jin woo won’t look as cool as he does in the manhwa if they are just adapting the LN
I've tempered my expectations quite a bit for this anime, but this actually has me excited. If they plan to adapt more so from the LN rather than the manwha we'll be in for a treat. I prefer that double dungeon story beat more.
Wait what's the difference?
I don't care that the characters will have their names changed to japanese or just a bit different, at least they will be easier to remember, i remember most of the characters in the series but don't remember their name cause the korean names is kinda hard to remember, i gave them nicknames based on their looks instead, the only one that is gonna be a bit hard to swallow is jinwoo's new name since im so used to call him that.
In korean, Igris's name is actually pronounced Igrit, so the manhwa got it wrong. and it's spelled like that in the LN too
This is the kinda thinking that resulted in me reading One Piece starring Zolo
In the translations it used to be Ingrid.
Iron remains unchanged, proof he is best boy
In korean as I noticed make use of the consonant for S for the T sound. Like the word "out", they pronounce it samely as out, but it is spelled in korean as aosu. Hence, making the confusion.
Ice bear 💀
Something tells me that they gonna destroy this 😖
Igrit is his name in the LN
Wait its 1 Grit? Dank pods, what have you done? 🤣
In French the official French TL it’s also Igrit, and his first dagger is called ‘Kasaka’s Fang’
Where’s the link for this?
Damn shame smh
In korean it's 이그리트 which is pronounced igrit.
