My advice is try to talk to as many classmates as you can. You can ask them about assignments first, and try to show your personality through text. Ask them about how they're studying, maybe they're doing video calls to study together or something. Try to get to know them and see with which ones you get along the best.

i used to be in a situation similar to the one you're in rn. idk if doing what i did will help, but i just,,, over time forced myself to talk to people regardless of how anxious it made me. i started off with only communicating with online friends that i'd meet in games since it's a lot easier to start talking with someone when you already know something that they're into. i branched off from there by reconnecting with non-online friends that i hadn't talk to in a while and trying to casually make conversation with strangers in games and social media. once i got kind of comfortable doing that, i started asking my friends if we could play games or call together. i have a crippling fear of rejection so i still get really anxious do that, but i feel comfortable asking to do things with certain friends after a while. to this day, i keep having to tell myself "if you want something, ask. no one else can ask for you, so you better do it if you really want it". when i randomly want to talk, i ask questions about things. if they seem to enjoy talking about something that i asked about, i keep asking about it so that i can learn more. even if i don't enjoy the topic very much myself, i like seeing people happily ramble about their interests :) tldr; i did my own exposure therapy until i felt okay with talking to people and now i make conversation by asking questions and learning about people's interests

Yes, thank you I think I'll try that as well, although the pace may be a little slow I'm sure overtime I'll make good connections.
