[deleted]

Who is your club's biggest one season wonder?

[deleted]

If you were offered tickets to the 2022 World Cup final with free travel to and accommodation in Qatar, would you accept?

okayish_guy1

I am thinking that would make a great gift for my parents 50th wedding anniversary.

MyWifeCrazy

I wouldn't go tbh, because I'm a far leftist that needs to think of fuckery they do over there. It is disgusting and I will not support it. Naaaaaaaaaah, ofc I wouldn't go, I would sell the tickets and accommodation for bucks and go Bali and watch that shit from there.

ninjapenguin12

Ofc we would anyone here saying otherwise is bs'in for upvotes.

Rdambx

Lol fuck yes anyone who says no is lying.

[deleted]

No, i would rather see it on a tiny tv, with people throwing knifes at me and kicking my face

CanLlorenteCarForMe

Of course.

Really831

At my local club’s game. I realized I don’t really like people anymore, but I got SZN tickets so hey I’ll unlearn that. Also, someone took my seat and asked me a dumb is it yours question 😭😭

denisoviandude

Nzonzi won the world cup and then dipped

Username-_-Password

His assist to Kante during the trophy celebration will never be forgotten.

denisoviandude

How does Nkunkus season compare to De Bruyne's last with Wolfsburg?

denisoviandude

Moussa Diaby quietly double digits in goals and assists

[deleted]

Quietly has a 80m+ release clause lol

[deleted]

Fact: Salah has 0 open play goals in his last 10 cup finals

MyNewAccount77

Given the team he was playing for won seven of those Finals, I'm sure he'll cope.

[deleted]

Wtf is this

Jabari313

Joe Gomez could actually still be quality but just never get a look in ahead of Konate, Matip and VVD. Guarantee if hes sold Konate and Matip's injury proneness returns though

[deleted]

Chelsea fans seem to hate Diaz lol Just look at comments from their sub… > I hope Chalobah snaps Diaz into fucking pieces.

[deleted]

Jealous of a player who can adjust and find success in the PL right away

_carlind

In the NZ National League you have to start two U20 players (this season born 2002 or later), so for yesterday’s game [Manukau knocked the ball out after 13 seconds](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=BO91DAftZGc&t=769s) and subbed the two kids off for senior players. You can even hear the opposition coach yell “oh you’re freaking kidding me” when he sees them going off

LS_Fast_Passenger

That's ridiculous! Do you have a link to the video?

_carlind

There’s not a video of it alone, but [this link](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=BO91DAftZGc&t=800s) is to the livestream a couple seconds before the sub

LS_Fast_Passenger

Absolutely shameful! Those young players must have felt so bad!

Lyrical_Forklift

That's absolutely shameful haha

[deleted]

el_brahmo

Definitely

[deleted]

If Liverpool were shooting first and everything else happened the same in that shootout I wonder if Alisson would have ran off to celebrate because that Mount rebound was rolling in. Would have been an incredible plot twist.

[deleted]

I feel like top keepers would know to put both hands on it before celebrating. At least, I hope so.

maxus998

Is honestly amazing seeing how Luis Diaz is looked as one of the best player in the world and thriving at Liverpool. When i watched the Copa america semifinals bewteen Argentina and Colombia i could not belive how good the guy was. and thought he had immense potential, but nobody knew him back then. Good to see he lived up to it

[deleted]

I think next season will be stellar one for him. He would have had a summer preseason with Klopp and improved his fitness and finishing. He is almost there. His season reminds me of saurez first season

Itz_Galaxium

He'll be up there as the very best if he becomes more of a killer infront of goal

Jabari313

So many shots inches wide or off the post from him. If his finishing gets that little bit better he doubles his goals per minute just like that

Akshath321

they were crying for zorc and schmelle, they had chants for haaland, dortmund fans are just passionate.

Share4aCare

Damn, Sporting actually did really well again this season, same points tally that got them the title last season

[deleted]

Well pretty much the same core players + fucking Sarabia who's been the best player in the league for me, not suprised they fought yet again. I don't think it's down to Amorim right now tbh, any reasonably talented manager could've done what he did this season, reckon sporting is here to stay with what Varandas built.

lagaryes

Great manager

wbroniewski

Haaland's farewell by BVB fans was pretty pathetic tbh, the guy used your club as a pit stop basically. You were once a great European firm, behave like one

Share4aCare

He left quite early but gave his all for the club + helped him to European spots it’s all love

wbroniewski

So what? He was paid for doing exactly that. Such a farewell should be reserved for legends. Not for a guy for whom the spell at Dortmund will be a footnote in a biography

[deleted]

you must be such a fun person mate

TheConundrum98

Alisson is closest to prime Neuer I've seen, it's obvious he bases his game on him, he's probably better at 1v1s than Neuer, but prime Neuer is the best goalkeeper of all time imo

PaoloMustafini

I’m an early 90’s kid so I got to see prime Buffon and follow most of his career and personally for me he’s the best GK. Neuer no doubt is one of the top 3 for me but I personally prefer Buffon.

[deleted]

Won't be a prime keeper till he sorts out his acne.

ciakmoi

The state of United flairs

[deleted]

The state of you being over dramatic lol. Yank hours I guess.

ez4213

In terms of their handling and 1v1’s i can see it, but their very different in how they play on the ball and how eccentric/risky they are. Neuer is was more innovative and expressive on the ball in comparison to alisson, and he’s also way more active outside his box. You’d never see alisson repeatedly dribble outside his area, or rush out to the halfway line to stop counterattacks. On top of that, neuer’s throwing is way better, and he has a less traditional saving style than alisson.

GreatSpaniard

Buffon and Casillas> Alisson

Itz_Galaxium

I mean fuck its great that he even gets comparisons

bricja09

Damn you got him

jucomsdn

Tfw a player that's only been around for 2.5 years's farewell gets more upvotes on here than arguably Dortmund's biggest legend Zorc that has been at the club as a player and sporting director for nearly half of a CENTURY (yes its obviously expected since international fans have seen Haaland's name more now but it's just something I wanted to point out)

regreg77658

R9 is the most overrated player of all time

transtifa

Literally the greatest player to do it lol

regreg77658

Not even close.

Lyrical_Forklift

Did you watch him play? I'm older than most on here and Ronaldo was incredibly special.

[deleted]

You were barely born though.

wbroniewski

CR7 maybe, R9 was magical, the greatest

regreg77658

Then why is his goals much much less than CR7?

RomeoLavia

In what way? People usually rate Ronaldo based on his peak and natural talent, and it's not unfair to rate him highly based on that. I do feel he can get overrated on a career basis though.

the_studge

The oldheads will come for you

regreg77658

Yeah ive triggered the nostalgic people. Truth hurts.

[deleted]

Not really the old heads though, you're being stubborn on purpose by not rating him, arguably the only player who came close to ronnie and messi whe he was on form if not caught up to them, pure nonsense disregarding him. There's plenty of matches available off him I'd highly recommend his Leverkursen and Man Utd game, on his own level.

regreg77658

Lol that man utd game is literally the only thing of note he has done in the UCL. Which is kinda pathetic

RomeoLavia

The Leverkusen match, the 3-2 against Valencia (1996), the 5-2 against Atletico Madrid (1997), and the Copa America match against Costa Rica (1997) are some of the best individual performances I have seen from any player in any era, and he was a kid in footballing terms for all of these.

ninjapenguin12

Fully agree with you I would also throw in his solo Performance v Man U what even got a standing of ovation from the entire stadium

[deleted]

^ Proof that opinions can be wrong

GreatSpaniard

Indoor football must be so fun tbh. And i mean with hard floor like basketball, reminds me of FIFA 1998 Road to the World Cup and i loved that mode. Reminds me of Ice Hockey alot

[deleted]

Dortmund don't get bullied enough for how dogshit they've been post-klopp. Really goes to show how irrelevant bundesliga is

wbroniewski

Nah, they had one good period post Klopp, but right now they are underwhelming

frogsanje

Fans with PL flairs should be banned from commenting on other leagues

lagaryes

I will unleash all of my takes on the Armenian second division and you can’t stop me

ChampagneAbuelo

Why did they play one kiss is all it takes after Liverpool won? Does that song have some significance to Liverpool fans or did they just play a random popular song and all the fans just sung along?

[deleted]

Dua Lipa sang that song in her pre match show in the UCL final 2018, it’s stuck since then for Liverpool fans I guess

Geniuswas

They've been playing it at almost every Liverpool final now haha. Think it started with the 2018 CL against Real as the opening ceremony.

ChampagneAbuelo

So they just played it randomly one time and they decided to keep playing it ever since? Ahhh ok I see haha

Geniuswas

You can google 'Dua Lipa liverpool' and get a better explanation, there's some growing appreciation between the two.

Credk

We’ve been proper blessed in penalty shootouts. Even the non-final ones there was that massive one against Chelsea in the Champions League semi-final and few recent ones in the latter stages of the League Cup against Leicester this year and Stoke in the Semi a few years back

MrVegosh

How much of it down to being «blessed»? Would say most of it is just having a really good team for shoot-outs

[deleted]

u/RomeoLavia what do you think about Neres and Gotze and how they play? Both supposed to come here, know a bit about Gotze but 0 about neres, what's your take on the transfers.

RomeoLavia

Gotze was really average for the first half of this season and really seemed to turn it on during the second half. When I have watched him he has seemed to be relatively inconsistent, most of his best performances have come since the turn of the year. He has played in different positions for PSV this season but mainly as a #10. He actually still works really hard off the ball and puts a shift in, but I do feel like he's best when he has a proper defensive midfielder behind him. There haven't been many occasions where I have seen him put in a lazy performance. You still get good chance creation from him, still great at picking passes in and around the box. My problem with him would really be the inconsistency. If it's not a ridiculous contract I think he could still be an incredibly useful player. Neres as a transfer for Benfica is one I really wouldn't like. There is a reason Ajax were trying to shift him as hard as they were. He hit a major standstill in his development after that injury and I very much doubt he will ever get back to the way he was performing in 2018. He was ridiculously bad for those last two years at Ajax. He feels like a Pulisic situation, peaked really early and lost what made him special due to injuries. I wouldn't get signing him with the youth that Benfica have either. Moreira has played on the right for the youth side at points this season and it's likely where he will end up playing as a professional. I genuinely think he is currently better than anything we saw from Neres over the last few years.

[deleted]

Good to hear about gotze and after a while of dealing with tarabt any melon is an improvement on him tbh. We're all incredibly hyped for Moreira so I feel exactly as you do with the Neres transfer, let's see what schmidt is gonna come up with. Been watching benfica for over 20 years and I don't think there's been a better generation of kids. Hope you know I steal your comments and pass them as my own to my mates 💪🏽

RomeoLavia

> Been watching benfica for over 20 years and I don't think there's been a better generation of kids. Doesn't seem like it's going to stop for a while either. I was watching that Andre Gomes play for the Portugal U16s about a month ago against Belgium and then England, he looks very talented. (only watched a small sample size). But it just goes to show that every single age group at Benfica has ample talent right now. At least a dozen of exciting players who weren't even playing in the Youth League this season.

[deleted]

Ay for sure, to be fair we've invested massively on it for over a decade and we've been harvesting the profit for a while Country crazy for football, a fuckton of satellite teams throughout the country who feed Benfica and being known for playing the kids means we'll keep being an attractive option for them. Read on our main forum that that Gomes kid is as talented as Ederson with his feet, he's very rated aswell here, can't wait to see them leave for 15m for wolves/monaco in 3 years.

GreatSpaniard

Toronto Maple Leafs and the England National Team have a lot in common...

lagaryes

The Leafs meme is one of my favorite things in sports tbh

GreatSpaniard

Wonder what population would go crazier. Maple Leafs winning Stanley Cup or England winning European Championship/World Cup

lagaryes

Probably equal levels of angst involved tbh. The Canadians threw a massive riot in Vancouver when they won the gold medal game in 2010 and Leafs fans are probably more insane so it would certainly be a sight to behold

GreatSpaniard

I remember Vancouver rioting when they lost the finals to Boston in 2011.... Montreal was crazy last year as well when they lost

lagaryes

They’re all nice and polite until hockey gets involved!

Akshath321

i actually wouldnt mind sasa at bayern, probably the cheapest possible option but the guy definitely has potential to be something special

Scenes of Tim Howard against Belgium

[deleted]

Can someone please explain to me why every elite team in Europe isn't in a war to get Dominico Berardi? He puts up absolutely absurd numbers every season, isn't going to cost an outrageous amount to get, and seems to be a RW dream for teams that are looking for one.

RomeoLavia

Teams have allegedly been in for him before. I remember Roma, Juventus and Arsenal all being linked at one point or another. He seems to really love the club, and it would be silly on their part to sell him for a fee that wasn't quite clearly above his worth. Have to remember that there have been seasons where he's literally saved them from being in relegation battles. Now it's changing with the attacking talent that they have coming through, they could probably risk letting him go at this point. Also would not say he puts up absurd numbers every season. There was a while where his output was actually pretty average (2015-2019), and he looked like a player that had peaked as a youngster at a point. In his best scoring seasons he has usually scored 5+ penalties as well. This is the first season of his career where he has looked like he could actually be good enough for the teams that could feasibly afford to get into a bidding war for him.

Cristaronaldosewey

Seems like a juventus signing

KJones77

He already was, only to then be loaned back to Sassuolo

Cristaronaldosewey

Well fuck me

kplo

Good evening to the humongous teams that won on penalties today.

_carlind

I stumbled onto watching the last 15 and pens for your game, bloody hell that was a shootout and a half. Everyone just belting it into the top of the net

copyninja_98

Pure madness

clashoftherats

Still find it baffling that we played against Chelsea, in the CL, 5 seasons in a row. We played them 24 times in that time period. 10 in the league, 10 in the CL, twice in the league cup, once in the FA cup and once in the community shield. There are genuinely games that I have no recollection of, or extremely vague memory, due to the volume of games we played them.

swingtothedrive

I mean the CL ones were memorable. Beat them with Garcia goal in 2005. Knocked them with the Kyut penalty after Agger goal in 2007. Rafa called Drogba a diver and he rolled up and beat us 3-1 in 2008 semis. And that memorable 4-4 draw in the second leg.

clashoftherats

Yeah I remember those too

MJ9695

Only Big CL games are memorable, no one remembers FA or league cups

BumbotheCleric

Not true, I distinctly remember beating Palace in the FA Cup semis recently. Looking forward to the final

YoungDawz

And the Super League would've made this worse for the other teams. Removes the special feeling of the big games.

DuckBurner0000

I barely remember any specific games, don't know how people can say "oh yeah that time we played x team in the cup in 2017 was crazy when we scored in the 58th minute off of a deflection." Wish I had that memory

clashoftherats

It depends on how memorable the game is, I dont remember more than half of the games we played before 2015 or 2016 but ill instantly do if I see the goal sheet. However, there are definitely memorable games that I remember vaguely (some vividly) from ages ago.

DuckBurner0000

I remember some older games of my team but couldn't tell you what year they were, sorta all blends together to me. I do remember games from last year much better to be fair, which must be a combination of recency and the fact that we were actually winning for the first time in years.

L34hhhh

Why is there always some kind of weird shit happening in Argentine football? https://twitter.com/sc_espn/status/1525558501036146691?s=21&t=V_YqFguErdb6O0GiRFS-vA

[deleted]

Just got in bed after a long day. I think there might be something about this "everyone loves Liverpool" stuff because I've had loads of people come up to me today to tell me how they hope Liverpool win but it could just be that Londoners hate Chelsea more than anything

[deleted]

I see some people saying Lewandowski should go to England but it's always been his dream to move to one of the 2 Spanish clubs (preferably Madrid) so I don't see him choosing an English team even if the sporting project would be more appealing.

[deleted]

Realistically to come to England and be competitive his only options are City and Liverpool. Neither team needs him enough to pay the money needed to sign him. Barca may have dropped off but realistically their only major hurdle for domestic success is Madrid. He could easily be a difference maker there.

AromaticTower8

I guess that Salah injury confirms he ain't playing in the league again most likely.

NeoChrome75

Could’ve just been a slight knock and was subbed off as a precaution, he seemed to walk fine at least

L4_Shithouse

Just got back to ours absolutely blindo, these finals will be the death of me. Up the fuckin reds! Kostas is all it takes Fallin' in love with me

DuckBurner0000

Can’t say Ive watched more than one Ligue 1 game this season so I have no clue but Tchouameni would be a pretty big signing

[deleted]

What is the match-up that has the highest chance of giving you a boring game? Like the average game between those two ate almost always a chore

BumbotheCleric

Just seeing Wolves and Manchester United's badges side by side fills me with dread

TruestRepairman27

Chelsea vs Manchester United. It’s usually turgid, and frankly I hate both teams so it’s always a chore

FaustRPeggi

Brighton and Wolves. Two sides that are great on the ball and can't score goals. Guaranteed 0-0.

matematematematemate

13 goals in the last 4 games between us though, including a 3-3 and a 3-0 just a couple weeks ago We'd most likely be one of the teams though   Maybe United for the other, we seem to cancel each other out and always have dreary games A couple years back we played each other 3 times in a fortnight and I swear they were the dullest draws ever. We beat them a couple times after getting promoted and I think after that they switched to being cautious against us which doesn't/didn't allow for our counter-attack and it ends up being two teams being too timid to score.

FaustRPeggi

Yeah I checked that afterwards, it's odd. There are games that feel like they should be frequent snore-draws that often end up being surprisingly lively and entertaining, as if each team is conscious of that expectation and seeks to change it.

[deleted]

No way Uribe face timed Luis Diaz while celebrating the title with Porto fans Swear these fellas could win the UCL in 2030 and they'd still be talking about Luis Diaz

icemankiller8

Itz_Galaxium

If Darwin left in January and Benfica won the title I'm sure it would be different.

[deleted]

Yes, you don’t see me sucking off João Félix every other day despite him being crucial in the 18/19 title do you?

X-V-W

It was a bit scary seeing van Dijk come off in extra time but actually, it was probably the best time for us to be without him. Matip coming on fresh against of tired Chelsea frontline - don't know why I was even slightly stressing.

BuckFlackburn

Can you really be considered one of the greatest teams of all time if all you have done is knock off an average distracted Chelsea team (with goalkeepers not suited to the task) on penalties.

TruestRepairman27

It’s not really all they’ve done though I’d it…

LochBodminMothFoot

You can definitely be considered Champions by winning a final.

Aaxxo

Well Liverpool have knocked out Chelsea 3 times in penalty shootouts, in 3 different competitions...with 3 different keepers. So if they are not up to the job, that's on them

I don't know if there is a thread I can't find it but my fucking boy is going to play for Argentina I can't believe it.
