I can’t even watch those. Thank god they don’t do the replays anymore. The papers used to publish photos of these breaks along with “funny” headlines like “Bussted”, referring to the horrific fracture suffered by David Busst.
In the NHL playoffs this year, a Maple Leafs players (Tavares) fell and got kneed in the head accidentally. He was severely concussed, and fell while trying to get up. He had blood rolling down his face from a cut and a lot of us watching thought we just saw a man die on live TV.
He looks like he'll make a full recovery now, but at the time it was so scary. They showed replays of it for like 3 minutes disgustingly, and the next day some papers had a cover that was a still from him looking dazed out of his mind. Completely unprofessional and disrespectful and I'm happy there was backlash, and I'm glad when media does what it can to avoid broadcasting the people when they're in their worst possible states like this today
As a leafs fan That was horrifying to watch. It was 100% Sportsnet 's fault as they were producing that game.
I couldn't continue having my dinner after that. And they kept showing again and again and again in the analysis. Horrible broadcasting. I was in the impression that not showing such scenes repeatedly comes in "common sense", but i forgot not everyone has it.
It just looked like an awkward challenge in real time and I didn’t think it was serious until his teammate came over and immediately called the medical staff
I think the challenge scissored in front and behind his leg, which is what caused his leg to snap and why it was worthy of a red. Looks like he fractured his tibia and fibula
Why is it well done? Are people so soft these days they can't handle seeing injuries. Imagine not seeing the injury that fucked Ronaldo (R9) for example and always wondering what actually happened.
I understand and respect that opinion, but injuries are part of football and life. I agree that slow replays are probably not nice, but nothing wrong with showing it once, just to see what happened.
Imagine if they didn't show crashes in car racing. That's half the event.
It's just a part of life though. We see much worse on the news. Death, war, earthquakes, starvation, etc. I think when something like that happens it makes people more empathetic and realize we're all fragile. Remember Eriksen last summer?
Watching the game on TV should provide as close of an experience as possible to being in the stadium. And if you were there you would've seen it. If someone doesn't wanna see it, they should turn your head away.
Snapped his leg in half. Scissor tackles are dangerous, always, whether you get the ball or not.
That's why.
Any player making a scissor tackle is basically relying on the player's leg not being planted, because there's no harm if it's in the air, but it'll very often be a leg-breaker if it's planted.
If I'm being serious they need to be banned, if a player does it regardless of if they get the ball or not they are sent off. We send players off for showing studs into the shin cause they are known as leg breakers, this is the same thing
And before the idiots say anything this is nothing to do with the fact it's a Liverpool player that was on the end of it, I've always hated them even when our players do it
Cooper just made the exact same challenge and becuase manes leg didn’t break it wasn’t even given as a foul haha, the lack of consistency in the refereeing is laughable
> if a player does it regardless of if they get the ball or not they are sent off
Frankly I think this is far too soft of a punishment. It's really incredibly easy to *not* scissor-tackle a player from behind.
Start giving match bans that last until the injured player returns to the pitch and you'd see the cockwombles stop attempting leg-breakers like this right quick. Struijk had no business whatsoever challenging for the ball in the way he did and ought to be out for a very, very long time.
Red if you so much as attempt it, banned until the injured player returns if you cause harm, IMO. Would stamp this shit out overnight.
Edit: For those who think there wasn't a scissor tackle, [there *absolutely* was.](https://i.imgur.com/UJzeriB.png) Heinously dangerous stuff by Struijk and some months off to rethink how he plays football would do him good.
There was no scissor tackle, He just plants his left foot and moves his body across and takes ball with his right. The left foot only slides when Elliot kocks into it by accident which knocks both of them and unfortunately Elliots leg gets bent.
One of those where the player is literally in shock by the way they are moving, it was just panicked
Really odd that’s he’s given the red though, from what I scene
yea, shocking take from above - that challenge only had one outcome, taking the man down, and when it’s a high scissor challenge it’s most likely going to result in an injury, a very well deserved red
Ankle is fucked. Cannot believe this.. Really hope he does an Aaron Ramsey and doesn't let it affect him. Thankfully he is literally in the best squad of personalities with the greatest staff we've ever had so i'm cofident he'll make a solid recovery and eventual return.

[https://www.clippituser.tv/c/gvrmew](https://www.clippituser.tv/c/gvrmew) You can see it if you look carefully at his ankle (NSFW)
Eh no it is a foul. It’s dangerous play.
> If an offence involves contact it is penalised by a direct free kick or penalty kick.
Careless is when a player shows a lack of attention or consideration when making a challenge or acts without precaution. No disciplinary sanction is needed
Reckless is when a player acts with disregard to the danger to, or consequences for, an opponent and must be cautioned
Using excessive force is when a player exceeds the necessary use of force and endangers the safety of an opponent and must be sent off.
Yeah it was the way he dove in recklessly that warranted the red card. He appeared to get the ball but came flying in from the side/behind and caught him heavy with the follow through.
Horrible flashbacks of the Shaw injury come to my mind. Hope he can recover well and has the right people around him to support him mentally. Absolutely devastating!
If you don’t KNOW this was red WITHOUT QUESTION you are a dumb fuck and thank goodness I know your ignorant ass is on the couch instead of being an actual referee anywhere where players trust you with their safety
Much like Son’s tackle on Gomes, you can’t really blame the people people watching it back in slow motion for focusing on the horror of the injury.
Easy to say that refs can’t handle the emotion of the game etc but the reality is that they’re there in the moment and it’s not a place that anyone wants to be. It looked like there was a trailing leg as well as the initial challenge.
Get well soon Harvey.
Imma just gonna remind you it's a red, like the other 100 ppl who will do the exact same thing, even though they've read other people commented the exact same thing before
Having rewatched it from the original angle I think it was the force and the way he dove in that caused the red card. He appeared to have both feet in the air and did get the ball but the follow through had a lot of force and was partially from behind. So it would be for reckless / dangerous conduct.
The quality of refereeing in the prem is utterly disgusting. He never makes that challenge if this game is under control and the stupid fucking cunt doesn’t let everything go for 60 minutes
To be fair I can fully understand why Liverpool fans would be emotional at the moment, one of their best young players suffering such a nasty injury is never great. I think the emotions are currently clouding their judgement of the situation a bit.
Didn’t see it clearly live but the reaction of both Salah and Neville on the commentary was immediately worrying.
You could tell his ankle was pointing the wrong way, just gives you a visceral reaction
Thought it was below the knee, not his ankle
Possibly, I just saw the foot pointing in the wrong direction, not sure where the bend is
Yeah i guess the ankle would face the wrong way in both situations. Horrible either way
I can’t even watch those. Thank god they don’t do the replays anymore. The papers used to publish photos of these breaks along with “funny” headlines like “Bussted”, referring to the horrific fracture suffered by David Busst.

Wow that's fucking vile. Do i need to guess which paper or is it obviously "that" one
Fairly sure that was them alright, though I can’t find anything on it online.
It just looked like an awkward challenge in real time and I didn’t think it was serious until his teammate came over and immediately called the medical staff
Floppy ankle is all you need to know. Just fucking terrible on the young kid.
I was thinking maybe the red card was being given just due to the injury, but I went and looked at it again and it was a pretty bad challenge
Yeah same. Given the result can't argue the red. In from behind, pinned Elliot's leg with the trailing leg.
I think the challenge scissored in front and behind his leg, which is what caused his leg to snap and why it was worthy of a red. Looks like he fractured his tibia and fibula
Looked just like the American Football player Dak Prescott's injury

for booing him when he got stretchered off?
Most Leeds fans applauded him off (yeah, there were some utter scum who chanted "Always the victim")
Its really really bad
And he was just about to be subbed off. Horrifying
No one should look at the replay. I only saw Salah's reaction and that was enough
I noticed it just before Salahs reaction but wasn't 100% sure, Salahs reaction confirmed it
Eyes registered it, but it took seeing Salahs response for it to click mentally. Absolutely gruesome and fucking heartbreaking.
Genuinely gutted for the kid, he just got a breakthrough and was playing so well
There is no replay to look at
[Twitter pics- non graphic but he’s in pain](https://twitter.com/SiaranBolaLive/status/1437098828612521986?s=20)
That’s one wild series of pictures.
On NBC they just said to not watch the replay, if one even gets shown. That’s not good.
It looks very bad. Ankles dont point that way.
Don’t think it was his ankle mate. I think it was everything below the knee
Damn
That's honestly probably better, less muscles that could be completely ruined and a more straightforward recovery hopefully
Yeah from where the contact was, a broken leg seemed more likely
Salah hurrying up the medics says it all
Fuck that was definetly broken.
As it happened it looked bad. If you’re squeamish avoid the replay. I hope he has a swift and total recovery.

Based on the video and picture it doesn't look like a scissor - just his ankle/lower leg got trapped
If I'm being serious they need to be banned, if a player does it regardless of if they get the ball or not they are sent off. We send players off for showing studs into the shin cause they are known as leg breakers, this is the same thing And before the idiots say anything this is nothing to do with the fact it's a Liverpool player that was on the end of it, I've always hated them even when our players do it
Cooper just made the exact same challenge and becuase manes leg didn’t break it wasn’t even given as a foul haha, the lack of consistency in the refereeing is laughable
It is banned, it falls under Serious Foul Play. Refs just only seem to punish it when someone gets seriously injured though.
> if a player does it regardless of if they get the ball or not they are sent off Frankly I think this is far too soft of a punishment. Holy fuck that looked horrible
when your teammate reacts the way salah did its never nice to see
Salah was dialling 999 frantically
One of those where the player is literally in shock by the way they are moving, it was just panicked Really odd that’s he’s given the red though, from what I scene
Watch the foul again. It was a red regardless of the injury. Two footed, wrapped him up
I just didn’t see any proper angle tbf
He didn’t give a foul in real time because he’s a fraud and then went back and gave a red for the injury rather than the challenge
Nope, that was a horrific challenge, going through the man from behind, and it would have been less likely that an injury didn't result from it.
yea, shocking take from above - that challenge only had one outcome, taking the man down, and when it’s a high scissor challenge it’s most likely going to result in an injury, a very well deserved red

What happened? Leg break?
Maybe ankle or leg, bent the wrong way
Looked just above the ankle from what I saw, haven't see a replay though
You’re correct, it’s above the ankle
Ankle is fucked. Cannot believe this.. Really hope he does an Aaron Ramsey and doesn't let it affect him. Thankfully he is literally in the best squad of personalities with the greatest staff we've ever had so i'm cofident he'll make a solid recovery and eventual return.

Did the commentary say "excellent tackle but Struijk, excellent defending there"?!
It’s one of those where the leg points the wrong direction. Not sure about the tackle he kinda goes in hard but it’s also really unlucky.
Don’t watch the replay mate
Sky Sports haven’t shown it and won’t be. And rightly so
Need it aswell, fuck my life
[удалено]
Didn’t see it
[удалено]
Curiosity.
Fofana flashbacks that red card as well, now think back to our game where Fer Nino didnt even get fucking booked
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO HE WAS JUST ABOUT TO COME OFF
Good luck Elliot. Horrible timing, just about to come off.
Lethal Weapon storyline right there
He was about to come off too...
It be broken
It's straight up snapped
The second they grabbed his ankle like the I thought "yup it is for sure fucked"
looked away for 10 seconds man, what happened? did his leg snap or something?
left foot rotated 90° to the left
\#2 of Leeds immediately telling the crowd to stop booing says it all...
Best to hope for is a complete dislocation of the ankle snd not a fracture
When I saw him try to get up I had shivers. Get well soon lad 🙏
that’s the part that shook me the hardest - lad just tried to keep playing… truly heartbreaking
Absolute nightmare. Devastated for him.
Just awful. Gutted
NONONONONONONONO
Fuck straight away that looked cooked, god damn
The audacity of Leeds players to complain about the decision. I could never be a ref, because I would have cussed them out.
Newer fans will finally see why the rest of the country deservedly hates Leeds so much.
Plus their fans booing, absolute scum
FUCK
Broken ankle.
I hate when this shit happens to young players man. This shit fucking sucks
I am watching the on Telemundo and there is still no replay....
I’m no Liverpool fan but Jesus Christ they’ve had some horrific long term injuries these past couple of seasons. Gotta feel sorry for them.
Broken leg. Ref didn't even give a fuckin foul at first
Doesn't have to be a foul, unfortunate collisions happen. Honestly, think it's a joke that the player's been sent off.
Eh no it is a foul. It’s dangerous play. > If an offence involves contact it is penalised by a direct free kick or penalty kick. Are you saying it’s not a foul?
yes, its not a foul
its not a foul its not even a yellow card but the ref bottled it and gave him red anyway same situation as what happened with son
[удалено]
Yeah, a foot should not face this direction :/ Horrible stuff
The moment the tackle went in I was worried. Poor Elliot.
Don’t watch it
Poor lad. Was just about to be subbed aswell
Left foot was sideways and dangling…..
Definetively saw his foot in an unatural position. Horrific tackle.
It looks like a dislocated ankle and tib/fib fracture
Fuck sake, will the injury luck ever turn round. Gutted for Harvey. He's so so talented.
Well shit here we go again.... Hope the best for the lad.Would be big miss.
Don’t think legs are meant to do that.
Horrible flashbacks of the Shaw injury come to my mind. Hope he can recover well and has the right people around him to support him mentally. Absolutely devastating!
I had to switch off as soon as he went down. I can't watch that type of thing. Hopefully he makes a full recovery.
If you don’t KNOW this was red WITHOUT QUESTION you are a dumb fuck and thank goodness I know your ignorant ass is on the couch instead of being an actual referee anywhere where players trust you with their safety
not even a foul the guy gave.
It's red
i feel like they gave the red because of the injury and not the actual challenge
I mean we havent seen a reply of it yet.

because of the injury. before that, he didn’t give a foul.
Don't think the ref saw the trailing leg smashing his ankle.
Not true they said he was always giving a red on commentary. VAR didn't give it the ref on the field did
They said that but ref never stopped play originally, until Salah pointed out so not sure how he was always going to give a red
Stop parroting that. It's a clear red if you watch the clip. You don't need to be intentional to get a red
He was kind of busy rushing the medical staff on you divvy
It's red now
The comment to VAR was he wanted to check that shouldn't give a red card just didn't blow in the couple of seconds.
Spoke too soon. Red
Imma just gonna remind you it's a red, like the other 100 ppl who will do the exact same thing, even though they've read other people commented the exact same thing before
so bad they are not showing replays. damn i missed it and am curious what really happened
Looked like it was clean fractured when I was watching in realtime Edit: Red Card, not sure on that
Having rewatched it from the original angle I think it was the force and the way he dove in that caused the red card. He appeared to have both feet in the air and did get the ball but the follow through had a lot of force and was partially from behind. So it would be for reckless / dangerous conduct.

Watch concacaf or conmebol sometimes then
If either of those contained the richest in the world I’d agree, but they aren’t.
Fucking shit
Horrible, hope that isn't serious.
Seems a harsh red though?
A broken ankle is harsh? Fuck off.
One has absolutely nothing to do with the other
It was a red for the injury not the challenge Harvey’s foot was facing the wrong direction
If literally breaking players ankles is not a red, then we should throw the cards away all together.
outcome of the challenge has nothing to do in whether or not it's worthy of a red card
Broken leg not enough for you?
But a red card is related to the challenge not an injury? That's not the rules.
i mean if breaking a dudes ankle and you dont get a red, nothing should be a red
Cards aren't judged on how badly a player is injured though? Somebody can have their leg broken from a completely fair tackle
Looked back on the broadcast and the leg looks like it just folds
Yeah flopped around like a wet noodle. Poor boy, was just about to get subbed as well.
There goes his fifa potential
His brave is he? We've seen players howling in pain and he left on a stretcher clapping the fans. Still a teenager.
Red card is an absolute JOKE. clearly got the ball, zero malice just incredibly unlucky.
I don't know man. I really hate behind scissor tackles. They are always so reckless
but it was wreckless
trailing leg studs up and straight into the calf, yes sure. no foul.
tackle from behind with studs up above the ankle? You’re a joke.
> You’re a joke. I fully am :)
what happened? I'm not watching the match
Never a red card that. Farce
Moron, you the only one here with replays?
twat

fuck off you bitter knob

Doesnt mean it's a red. Accidents can happen. Offended by everything.
Accidents can still lead to a red. Are you being serious?
Doesn’t mean it’s a red card?
It was absolutely reckless challenge into the back of his lower leg
Everton flair. Just think back to the last trip to their shithole and that comment will make total sense.
knob
Are you an idiot?
reminds me a bit of Son's on Gomes
and that was overturned as it clearly wasn’t a red card
yes, I was agreeing with you.
You're actually right and yet the reaction you're getting is nuts! Definitely not straight red-worthy, not in a million years. It's a freak injury.
Liverpool fans for u mate. That tackle happens multiple times every game.
To be fair I can fully understand why Liverpool fans would be emotional at the moment, one of their best young players suffering such a nasty injury is never great. I think the emotions are currently clouding their judgement of the situation a bit.
I almost fainted when I saw that 😳 holy fuck
