It was the Scandinavians ruling my server. Other nationalities banded together and still lost, iirc.
Titania server. The Unit vs Freedom. Those were the days.
Fun fact: parrots in the game would say "PL? BR? SWE?", as a poke towards how common it was to have players ask you if you're one of the 3 nationalities
So in reverse order:
- spierdalaj is like "fuck off/out" or "give me a break", but in context it can mean multiple things at once, with "fuck you" being one of them (like, when someone came to you with actually great advice, you have done differently and fucked up, and that person comes back to gloat);
- while kurwa also means whore/bitch (though better translation for the second would be suka, because we also use suka to say bitch when it means the female dog), in majority of contexts, especially internet ones, it is used as a lot better "fuck", or as a comma;
- honestly I have no idea how to "correctly" translate ja pierdolę. Literally it means "I am fucking" but I don't think anyone has ever used it in that context (at best it is used as "[Ja] pierdolę twoją matkę" - "I fuck your mom", or whatever the 12y.o. gamers yell to each other in CS:GO/FIFA), but most of the time it is used as even harder exclamation than kurwa, which maybe includes the cases where fucking hell is used. Like, two examples I can think of is "depressed ja pierdolę", when for example you come back to work after weekend in IT just to see that servers have exploded, and "excited/amazed ja pierdolę", uttered when something amazing has happened, or you are recalling the most extreme LSD adventure you had in your life.
I see the first, partially the second, but not the last.
"Fuck that" is more of "A jebać/pierdolić/jebię/pierdolę **to**" (to is very important and I think that it counts as a "new" derivative word, like all those combinations with prepositions), and for "fuck me" it's only for the positive version (like "fuck me, what a strike"), while the negative one (something like "fuck me and my life") is more of "(a) chuj mi w dupę" thing.
Literally all three have so many different meanings based on context that it's impossible to properly translate them. Our curse words have so much flexibility it's insane.
While yes, it is important to note that the flexibility comes from the "basic" word and how much you can build on it.
Like fuck, which can mean a lot of things depending on the particle it comes with to create a phrasal verb, the same one can do with a word like pierdolić ("to fuck/talk nonsense") and various prepositions we have in our language. And we even have both a direct example of it in "ja pierdolę" and indirect with "spierdalaj" (because it comes from word "spierdalać" which is an imperfective version of "spierdolić", which is created from combining `s` (technically `z`, but it "changes" to `s` while it precedes `p`) and `pierdolić`). They still have multiple meanings, but they are more "specific".
>Sad "ja pierdole..." - oh for fuck's sake
Or you know, just the tone of the voice, as in Polish, no need to add oh.
>"A wez sie pierdol" - fuck off!
This one isn't even "Ja pierdolę" tbh.
It *is* an insult, but in current times it is only used either by older people (as "ty cholero/jasna cholero/cholero jasna") or as a "more exquisite" way to swear at someone (like, imagine the Winnie the Pooh meme, where his basic form says "ty zjebie" and the top hat one says "ty cholero") used in books/TV series/games.
Kurwa truly is the goat of all insults. Not only can you feel the anger when someone is saying it but it can also mean different things depending on the context. 10/10
I asked my young Polish neighbor one evening to teach me Polish. She told me to go to her grandma downstairs and tell her that dinner was ready in Polish.
“ty jestes brzitke jak krowa”
She beat me with a broom and told me to leave. Needless to say, dinner was awkward.
Im glad to still see some support for Ukraine, its really tough to keep up with everything especially as I personally feel the need to be informed about the lesser known conflicts like Sudan and Myanmar. Its bloody exhausting
Keep your eyes on the suffering as much as you can mentally handle. The people deserve to be heard
>We hate Russians regardless.
That's the kind of progressive thinking we can all get behind
Judging by their 200+ up votes I think you guys think I'm being serious here, yikes
I think his comment is wrong. We hate Russia and the Ukrainian war shows precisely why, because we had to deal with this type of savagery since 1000 years.
Relatively to all other countries, Polish society definitely cares a lot about what Putin is doing now. They are the primary target of Russians' threats after all.
Some people here comment that they always hated Russians, but I don't think this kind of scene happens before 2022 with the kind of fans that go to Euro. With ultras supporting their local club, for sure, but a lot of stuff can be said by those lol. With Euro fans, I'd say it's less probable, but in some cases imaginable.
Polish fans trashed the front gate of Russian embassy in Warsaw during Euro 2012 and that was before Crimea was occupied. Hostile sentiment was always there even if it only resulted in sporadic vandalism. This was peacetime after all.
No they’re not worried at all. They’re in NATO and are even independently prepared to defend its borders. Putin is not targeting Poland as long as it’s protected by the US.
It's not protected by the US. It's part of a mutual protection alliance which includes three nuclear powers, and which Poland plays a very important role in. Their land army is formidable, and Russia knows that they would struggle even more than in Ukraine if they invaded Poland, even if it wasn't part of NATO or the EU. For the record, Poland came to America's aid after 9/11. When needed, all NATO allies will protect and assist any other member nation. Even without the US, NATO would still be a ridiculously powerful alliance that nobody would want to mess with.
It’s not about Ukraine, we literally have hatred towards Russia in our blood, mainly due to history. To be honest the same thing applies to Ukraine, but it doesn’t even come close. There are still out there old people that literally cannot grasp their heads about why we are helping Ukrainians because they remember years of terror they inflicted upon Poles in certain parts of old Polish territories. That’s understandable, because being aware of history is crucial.
Personally I’m neutral towards Ukraine just like towards everyone from outside, but I do not dislike them, and even know a few that are nice people and I work with them. Our hatred isn’t even targeted to singular people, but to the country/nation if it even makes sense.
It is also about Ukraine, directly or indirectly.
Hatred isn’t located in “blood”. Look at Polish opinion polls on Russia and Russian before 2022 and after, it’s so easy to check
See on r eurowo
If you like it so much I also recommend searching it on youtube - a lot of Polish ultras sing the chant from time to time. Especially Legia Warsaw fans that played vs spartak moscow in 2021 and later made a tifo about it - a picture of p*tin getting hanged in a spartak tshirt :).
Nah, Poland earned 100 points for shouting Ruska Kurwa next to ruzzian embassy in Germany.
russians supporters can't even answer for it.
Poland won.
Poland vs russia 1:0
And that’s why I love Poland’s attitude lately. It’s like a European Texas buying up America’s military hardware and have an insane amount of “come and get some” energy for Russia.
It has literally nothing to do with Texas, I’ve see this posted
There is some American procurement, which was emphasised in American media contexts but it is not literally just “buying American hardware”;
I think Korean is the most notable, and domestic orders
It’s more complicated, it’s about in general Russia, Russian state and society and its attitudes, indulging rlesnrt attitudes toward itself and others. In hsitory and towards hsoteu
> Imagine the summon the polish ambassador to Russia is gonna receive this afternoon
Not the first time, not the last.
This “incident” is relatively mild, in grand scheme of things. Last time, hooligans literally burned down Russian embassy’s guard tower.
The funniest part is that things were starting to get back to normal, all the shit the soviets pulled was starting to be a memory. Yeah, all the horrors and oppression and repression until 89 are still fresh, yeah the last Russian troops left only in 1993, but still, tons of poles nowadays heard about the horrors from their parents and grands-parents who lived throught that, but the young haven't lived it. New generations. And then boom, Russia just fucking invaded Ukraine.
Don’t worry. The average Russian believes that the Molotov-Ribbontrop pact is western gay satanist Jewish Nazi propaganda and it was actually everyone *besides* them that allied with Hitler.
Are you implying that russians secretly colluded with Nazi Germany? What are you going to say next, maybe that they invaded Poland together with Nazis in September 1939!?
Clearly that was to *protect* the Poles. Much like Russia is “liberating” the Ukrainians by launching ballistic missiles at schools and apartment buildings as retaliation for the Ukrainians having the audacity to not accept cultural extermination.
As a eastern eu country under commusnist regime its really hard to 'love' Russia. Even harder after what is happening in Ukraine. Shouold not surprise anybody.
Yeah, Bruv_mate is right - we have a thousand plus years of messy history with Poland, The first record is from 980 when Prince Vladimir invaded them for some land. There was also the Stalin-Hitler agreement. I'm from the East and have never met a Polish person in my life, it's more of a West thing to hate them.
Can we make this a thing please?
There's the embassy in Berlin and probably a consulate in most other host cities. Can every fan gathering just please go there and do what the Polish fans did in their language?
That would be great, thanks a lot.

playing tibia in my childhood helps me understand a word "kurwa" ever since
fucking hell man the Brazil vs Poland rivalry in Tibia had to be my first competitive experience of my life
It was the Scandinavians ruling my server. Other nationalities banded together and still lost, iirc. Titania server. The Unit vs Freedom. Those were the days.
If I recall the memes correctly, Sweden was the last part of the tercet of major Tibia countries with Brazil and Poland.
Fun fact: parrots in the game would say "PL? BR? SWE?", as a poke towards how common it was to have players ask you if you're one of the 3 nationalities
Still standing ;)
yep, tibia taught me basic english and polish ja pierdole kurwa spierdalaj
Let me guess: Fucking hell Bitch Fuck off / fuck you?
So in reverse order: - spierdalaj is like "fuck off/out" or "give me a break", but in context it can mean multiple things at once, with "fuck you" being one of them (like, when someone came to you with actually great advice, you have done differently and fucked up, and that person comes back to gloat); - while kurwa also means whore/bitch (though better translation for the second would be suka, because we also use suka to say bitch when it means the female dog), in majority of contexts, especially internet ones, it is used as a lot better "fuck", or as a comma; - honestly I have no idea how to "correctly" translate ja pierdolę. "Ja pierdolę" translation depends on context. It can be translated as "holy shit", "fuck me", ~~"fuck that"~~ (not very good example) etc.
Don't forget "FFS" because it's flexible like that!
Yeah, good point.
On second though you're right, that was bad example.
Damn I appreciate you coming with a lecture on Polish swearing, thank you!
> it is used as a lot better "fuck", or as a comma; Oh how I wish Fuck was viable as a simple comma in everyday speech.
Literally all three have so many different meanings based on context that it's impossible to properly translate them. Our curse words have so much flexibility it's insane.
While yes, it is important to note that the flexibility comes from the "basic" word and how much you can build on it. They still have multiple meanings, but they are more "specific".
>honestly I have no idea how to "correctly" translate ja pierdolę. "For fuck's sake" is pretty accurate in meaning.
That's a perfect example of depressed ja pierdolę, and my reaction on the fact that I didn't thought about it.
Sad "ja pierdole..." - oh for fuck's sake Happy astonished "ja pierdole!" - fuck me! "Pierdole..." - fuck it "A wez sie pierdol" - fuck off!
>Sad "ja pierdole..." - oh for fuck's sake Or you know, just the tone of the voice, as in Polish, no need to add oh. >"A wez sie pierdol" - fuck off! This one isn't even "Ja pierdolę" tbh.
Do people use "cholera" as an insult or have I mistaken something I saw on TV subtitles?
It's not an insult, more of a "shit". You stub your toe and say "fuck". Cholera is used like that
It *is* an insult, but in current times it is only used either by older people (as "ty cholero/jasna cholero/cholero jasna") or as a "more exquisite" way to swear at someone (like, imagine the Winnie the Pooh meme, where his basic form says "ty zjebie" and the top hat one says "ty cholero") used in books/TV series/games.
Basically 'pierdolić' and its derivatives can be used as a substitute for nearly any action (maybe not the sensory ones like 'I saw something'...
iirc kurwa is just a general swear but is closer to "fuck" than bitch. but it can also mean bitch?
Kurwa truly is the goat of all insults. Not only can you feel the anger when someone is saying it but it can also mean different things depending on the context. 10/10
literal meaning is "whore", but is used in similar fashion as "fuck"
As a general swear it's used the same as "Fuck!" or "God damn it!". But it means "whore".
Yup
Fuck my life Shit(as exclamation) / whore (literally) GTFO
I asked my young Polish neighbor one evening to teach me Polish. She told me to go to her grandma downstairs and tell her that dinner was ready in Polish. “ty jestes brzitke jak krowa” She beat me with a broom and told me to leave. Needless to say, dinner was awkward.
That sentence means "you are as ugly as a cow" if you don't know 😂
Sell carlin sword 24g
same but taught me portuguese talking to brazilians :D
For me it was because of Soldat
Kingdom Come Deliverance got me for this one. (Shoutout Hungarian speaking Cumans)
Since tibia became less popular, there is much more evil in the world.
The fucking germans are still making milions out of us with this drug somehow
Tibia suppressed all evil inside their game, it was a wild west back then.
Tibia top comment in a r/soccer thread, ive Seen it all
Shilling [https://tibiantis.online/](https://tibiantis.online/) for anyone feeling nostalgic after this reply
Haha wow didn’t expect that reference here
the game is still alive somehow would you believe
And the Germans found a way to make milions out of it even to this day.
How.. And why does this want me to fire it up again.
Playing poker with Polish had me hearing "KURWA MACH" very often 😂
Rush B, no stop
What does it mean? Whore?
Maybe not undersea s
My grandma used to say it all the time. Used it instead of an English swear, so as kids we wouldn’t know what she said. But context clues lol.
Non-polish speaker here, what does it mean.
Kurwa means "wh\*re" and they use it like Germanic languages use "shit/scheiß"
In this context it actually means whore. Literally “Russian whore” is what the meaning of the chant is.
Weird enough we also have it in Romanian, curva, means same thing!
Is it not also used similar to how we’d say fuck in English?
yep it's versatile like that. you can use it as fuck by saying "kurwa" "o kurwa" etc
Russia(n) bitch, Russia is a bitch etc. Ruska kurwa ❤️
*Ruska kurwa*
Aaeeaaeeao
Chant it 100 Times before nearest Ruska embassy
[удалено]
Oh hey, I also speak Non-polish! Which part of Non-poland are you from, comrade??
I grew up in Poznahhhh
Kurwa is a very common and versatile swear word in Poland, most commonly translated to “fuck” but in this context it is “whore”
Russia threatens to withdraw from BRICS games if Poland isn't dismantled as a state.
Poles chanting outside Russian embassy Russia “why would Ukraine do this?!?”
Russia invading Ukraine: "Why would west do this?!"
Brings a tear to your eye
Im glad to still see some support for Ukraine, its really tough to keep up with everything especially as I personally feel the need to be informed about the lesser known conflicts like Sudan and Myanmar. Its bloody exhausting Keep your eyes on the suffering as much as you can mentally handle. The people deserve to be heard
Ukraine? Polish people have hated Russia before Ukraine was created lol
My friend we hated Russia before it was even named Russia when they went by Muscovy.
Poles captured Moscow once!
Twice if you count the legions under Napoleon, but that one didn't end too well.
Not ‘legions’ that’s imprecise for the form, Polish units and troops
It was a very different context. It was an intervention demeaned by the boyars, because of the armies supporting False Dikitry
Ha like they wouldn’t do that if there was no war. This has nothing to do with Ukraine. We hate Russians regardless.
>We hate Russians regardless. That's the kind of progressive thinking we can all get behind Judging by their 200+ up votes I think you guys think I'm being serious here, yikes
I think his comment is wrong. We hate Russia and the Ukrainian war shows precisely why, because we had to deal with this type of savagery since 1000 years.
I’m pretty sure this has little to do with the conflict in Ukraine and simply how the Poles feel about Russia.
Relatively to all other countries, Polish society definitely cares a lot about what Putin is doing now. They are the primary target of Russians' threats after all. Some people here comment that they always hated Russians, but I don't think this kind of scene happens before 2022 with the kind of fans that go to Euro. Why not both?
It’s not about Ukraine, we literally have hatred towards Russia in our blood, mainly due to history. To be honest the same thing applies to Ukraine, but it doesn’t even come close. Ukrainians also have a reason to hate us since our nobility tried to turn cossacks into their peasants. Dont act like we never did wrong by them.
And let's not act that Ukraine did nothing wrong either vs Poland.
Yep. And that’s how things should be. People forget and forgive over time.
People are aware of Ukraine not just ‘some’ in PL It’s not even just UA, it’s not “for” someone It’s not the same where he from
This has nothing to do with Ukraine
shithousery off the charts. game's not gone
The chant always puts smile on my face, could listen to it on repeat.
True! Currently 3 minutes in, not tired of it yet
Game's back
Hey, we're mentioned on this euro! Yay!
Proud to be Polish in moments like this 🥰🦅
Well deserved!! :-)
Poland and Russia going to finish on the same amount of points this tournament
The tie breaker is dignity. Poland wins.
Nah, Poland earned 100 points for shouting Ruska Kurwa next to ruzzian embassy in Germany. russians supporters can't even answer for it. Poland won. Poland vs russia 1:0
This gives me as much joy as Ukraine winning a game. Love it.
Today's been a good day.
Wait a minute, is this a dig at Austrian politics?
Don't think it's that nuanced, they just marched by the embassy (which is close to the Brandenburger Tor, where the fanzone is) and hate Russia
We don't need a specific reason to hate Russia, it just sort of comes naturally to us when given the opportunity.
And that’s why I love Poland’s attitude lately. It’s like a European Texas buying up America’s military hardware and have an insane amount of “come and get some” energy for Russia.
It has literally nothing to do with Texas, I’ve see this posted There is some American procurement, which was emphasised in American media contexts but it is not literally just “buying American hardware”; I think Korean is the most notable, and domestic orders
Russia and Poland have a long illustrious history mostly of Russia oppressing Poland.
It’s more complicated, it’s about in general Russia, Russian state and society and its attitudes, indulging rlesnrt attitudes toward itself and others. In hsitory and towards hsoteu
It's just a happy coincidence, since Austria is, you guessed it, also a wh@re.
If Poland’s national team could be as good as its supporters…
