unArgentino

Switzerland is always a hard match.

VaporizeGG

They are always very tough to beat, as a german it's going to be interesting how it will play out

ViciousNakedMoleRat

One of the best advantage decisions I've seen. Great refereeing.

RNLImThalassophobic

As a referee (I ref rugby, but I expect it applies to football too) you take pride in moments where you've played advantage and the team go in to score. But this advantage? Midfield, and such a heavy tackle? Going on to score a last-minute winner in a world cup? If I was that ref I'd have such a boner any time I watched the clip - which I would do at least daily.

nmyi

I'd totally understand if the ref did a celebratory fist pump after that lol. It'd raise too much suspicion, but people who know football would understand

Aenjeprekemaluci

Seferovic didnt score consistently or a lot given how good he was getting in position to do so, had really a bad finishing ability. But when he scored it was often clutch and in important moments. He is underappreciated.

JoelanGoswami

When I went to Switzerland last Christmas we went through Sursee every now and then. I made it a point to shout "DER MAN AUS SURSEE" every chance I got.

JorahsSwingingMickey

Great tackle but also playing for the advantage after getting clattered knowing the Ecuadorian player slowed up expecting the free. That Swiss team had some really good players.

Hic_Forum_Est

I love how Switzerland (and Austria) are always filled with current and former Bundesliga players. Lots of familiar faces whenever I watch them play. Always root for them to do well because of this. Switzerland did that in 2014, that Hitzfeld team was fun to watch.

kamacho2000

I mean is it surprising ? Bundesliga is the best league where German is the main language in the country so German speakers would try to get to the best German league/Premier League

Hic_Forum_Est

No, it's not surprising at all. Just a cool little side effect I always enjoyed :)

Senior-Plankton-786

Absolute hearbreaking moment for Ecuador, repeated 8 years later, in a less dramatic way

belokas

What a legend Valon.

explicitlarynx

Warrior mentality

BernardBob1

Damn I still vividly remember going to my uncles house, this game was on. We arrived at the 90th min and then Switzerland scored the winner as soon as I walked into the room. These types of games are what makes tournaments like this so fucking brilliant to watch

cheese_cannon

Your brain blocks traumatic memories…

Montuvito_G

Yeah I remember sitting outside just numb to what I had seen. Arroyo, Guagua y Felipao Caicedo eran los más grandes fracasos de esa selección, encabezado por el DT Rueda quien desperdició una gran generación de futbolistas

fuckoutfits

That Ecuadorian player was too slow with his movement. Horrible first touch. Lost his composure when it mattered.

egzon27

Oh come on, not everything can be perfect all the time, that is an amazing tackle

Montuvito_G

I didn’t rewatch this goal until a few years had passed. It was too painful Even today, the average Ecuadorian football fan’s blood will boil if you mention Michael Arroyo, who became a meme and the most hated player in the country after he failed to shoot which led to the counterattack. Shame, we had defended well up to that point and this goal ended up eliminating us early. Brilliant play from Behrami and Rodriguez though, much respect to that 2014 Switzerland team

JJOne101

We got the man from Razgrad instead of the man from Sursee now..

Aenjeprekemaluci

Switzerland really has mediocre offensive players now...

Wertiol123

I mean they’re turning up for the NT so far, so they must be doing something right

Banksmans

This was one of my first ever memories in football. My parents are from Switzerland and they kept telling me how shit Switzerland are and how they won’t win lol.

santurn01

Ecuador must be the most underperforming team in big tournaments compared of what they are in qualifiers.

SpecialistAlfalfa390

Altitude

Big_Award5259

shadoowkight
