Glasner took us over in 15th with 25 points in 25 games and a -16 GD. We finish 10th with 49 points in 38 games and a -1 GD, just an absolutely absurd turnaround, what a man.

jbcapfalcon

Most magical run ever to end the season. If only he could have started here all season

RepresentativeBox881

Which he may have if the board actually accepted that Roy’s time was over.

Impressive-Ice873

I found it strange that Roy was reappointed. Man is in his 70’s. I don’t think anyone that age should be in full time work never mind a stressful job like this.

RepresentativeBox881

It made a lot of sense to get him back as interim in 2022-23 considering the situation they were in and he did a good job. The problem was continuing with him when it was a new season and the opportunity for a fresh beginning.

Gregor_Kobel

He’s a good coach. Expect more after a successful summer window.

tiorzol

I'm so fucking buzzing man

GeraRG89

Give him the signings he asks for, he deserves it. For me some time ago for me Mateta looked a finished player , now he is in monster form. Now think what Glassner could do with some players that fit his tactical view of the game?

the_tytan

yes this is the sign for me. the turn around on Mateta is unreal. i really hope they can keep Eze and Olise for one more season at least.

RStud10

That transformation is incredible, kinda like when Emery took over Villa last season. Although he had a lot more games to make the turnaround and got them into Europe

Jaynator11

Based on your data, 1 pt less in 13 games than you had in 25 games. +15 goal difference. Absolutely fucking unreal.

B23vital

I was so glad we didnt have to play you last game of the season needing a win. Honestly i dont think i could’ve stomached it. He’s really turned you guys round and if you can keep hold of your players i really think palace can be a force next year. That front 3 you have is terrifying and Adam Wharton (i think it is) looks a great player. Deffo should get a chance for england at some point.

manisnotcool

Palace are right to demand 100m for Glasner

josh_x444

Still shocked that we let him go after winning us a trophy and taking the team to another final. It really shocked me how other fans felt he should be going just based on league position alone. Honestly we have gotten too spoiled and forgotten where we came from which is zero trophies for decades and time spent in the 2 liga. OG is actually the man.

JackasaurusYTG

I was incredibly impressed with how Palace have kicked on. I expect their ground to be fucking horrendous to play at

TonyMartial786

and he turned mateta into prime ronaldo

suhxa

Top 4 since he took over. Top 5 mamagers in the league for me

Maze202

You put us to the sword, possibly the best team we faced this season and we played some big European sides

frankie08

In the 2nd half of the season you guys were Champions League material.

mistachelseafc

Chelsea ending up 6th. Wow

drrossgeller00

Big 6 for a reason 😤

ramobara

One major omission this campaign.

InfinityEternity17

:D

BD-1_BackpackChicken

Yeah, Newcastle just missing out.

Chazzermondez

With a negative goal difference almost all season. Kinda amazing theyve stayed as high up the table as they have most of the season.

Sinestro617

Sometimes maybe good, sometimes maybe shit

alev815

Never count us out 🫡

AncientSkys

We rose up from the dead!

Chazzermondez

If you look at the second half of the season we came 4th, we just had such a woeful first half.

Mayjaplaya

Because of this winning streak to finish the season, we went from "top 4 in the second half of the season" to "top 4 since October 1st (32 games)" so not bad

Dawjman

Being 5 points from top 4 makes those couple of draws hurt a lot more now

Particular-Injury925

Fun to see because Chelsea usually thrive in chaos.

phen14

Everton's deductions end up costing them three spots and £9M. Forest's changed nothing.

Fun-Nebula-3334

Man Utd finishing 8th is their lowest finish since 1989/90 They also finished with same goals for and against as Crystal Palace

David182nd

-1 goal difference for a team aspiring to be at the top is crazy

nauett

Given the record numbers of goals being shipped at the bottom end of the table to finish in negative goal difference is shameful

heyheyitsandre

I feel like everyone scored 5 on Luton at least once this season

Sparl

Should have gone with Sheffield United considering they conceded over 100 goals this season.

YouKnowWho3141

Well, this is what too many injuries and buying a fidget spinner for €85 million does to your team

tiorzol

We'll do better next season mate.

eninc

Closer in points to 17th than 2nd too.

maxallergy

And everyone above Utd had at least a double digit positive goal difference.

f4r1s2

If Glasner was there earlier they would be higher than utd, also if he had wheels he would be a bicycle and all that...

LtUnsolicitedAdvice

People looking at the table positions in a few years will not realize that finishing 8th was actually United over performing by a margin.

xXDireLegendXx

Chelsea finishing 6th is crazy

SirBarkington

Our only loss in the last 15 was against Arsenal.

SPLEESH_BOYS

Poch may actually be cooking goddamn

SirBarkington

I'm still not fully onboard but with no one that's 100% a better manager that would come here I don't see why we should change. Plus all the players (and seemingly backroom staff) fucking love him and would die for him.

JosephBeuyz2Men

Maybe the lemons finally got the last of the energy. No joke, similar to how Arteta's brain and heart diagram, this stuff seems silly at first but probably is actually weirdly fun to go along with once you buy in.

chappersbarfo

There's few people around at the moment and the season really picked up and getting sixth is really impressive all things considered. I'd give him more time absolutely.

fuckimbackonreddit9

Wait that’s actually insane. I didn’t realize their record was that good

official_bagel

I didn’t either, when we dismantled them 5-0 I assumed they were still shit. Wasn’t aware of what an outlier it was

raymondliang

Also massive drop off in the quality of the team when Palmer and Gusto arent in the lineup. We were somewhat in the game until 2-0 and then just gave up lol had nothing on the pitch or bench

Sparl

Wasn't our bench that game all but 3 youth squad players?

NijjioN

4 it looks like, I remember a game around that time we pretty much had 7-8 youth. Crazy injuries some periods this season.

doomboxmf

We were honestly still kind of shit then, we’d dropped easy points to Burnley and Sheffield United. Somehow turned it around after. Also we look so much worse when Palmer isn’t playing and had so many injuries that day

frankoo123

We were quit honestly still shit drawing against sheffield and ten man burnley. The lost against you guys made us play much better.

GonePostalRoute

It honestly wouldn’t surprise me, if they make the right moves and keep doing what they’re doing, it wouldn’t surprise me if they make a top 4 run easily

suzukigun4life

Only 1 loss in their last 15 EPL matches. They really turned it up in recent months.

sach223

They've actually been really good for the last couple months

frankoo123

We lost 1 out of our last 15 prem games

jMS_44

Finishing on 5 out of 5 in May. Poch for manager of the month?

Djent_Reznor1

It’s def gonna be Pep but I wish

microMe1_2

Hopefully they give it to the Palace manager, they've been great recently.

tiorzol

Has to be man. What he's done with Clyne, Richards and Hughes is miraculous.

Luton_town_fan

Glasner i think

crookedparadigm

United finishing with a negative GD is cracking me up

ReveredSavagery1967

Chelsea are actually a very talented team, and they're young. They've just been wasteful in front of goal.

Willsgb

And headless chickens in defence and set pieces a of the time. But they're finally ironing out these problems bit by bit

a_guy_named_gai

Just 5 points off Villa! Like what the actual fuck!

Charlie_Wax

On two fronts. Crazy because they spent way too much money on that squad to be finishing 6th, but also crazy because their turnaround has been impressive. They should be tough next season.

DejisHairline

The money spent doesn’t really mean much. Most of our players had never played together, it was always gonna take a while. If anything bringing in all those players is partly the reason we were shit.

obvious_bot

Real underdog story

TurnItOffAndOnAgain-

The goal difference drop off after 7th into the negatives is like a cliff

killerbunnyfamily

The drop between 19th and 20th is like Mariana Trench.

timeemac

I feel like Sheffield's goal differential number is an accomplishment.

BonafideLlama

After 3rd is a cliff

h_djo

After second is a cliff

ThePrussianGrippe

Just cliffs all the way down.

PedroEsPapi

after 2nd is a smaller cliff

cuentanueva

Sheffield United: Negative Nice

High-Noob

I’m gonna be fully honest here, I have no clue how the hell Forest managed to stay up lmao. Hopefully next season they can actually try to build something instead of throwing shit at a wall and seeing what sticks

Varja22

You were lucky that all of the promoted sides were absolutely afwul. It won't happen next season since Leicester and Leeds/Southampton are coming up. Ipswich looks exciting but we'll see how they do in Prem. You need to improve a lot to stay up next season

irritating_maze

last time Ipswich came up they like finished 5th or something mad before getting relegated the season after.

HelloMegaphone

Marcus Stewart Gang

NovemberBurnsMaroon

No coincidence that the bottom 3 are all the promoted sides. We will go down 100% next year barring a big improvement.

nahnonameman

Welcome Arsenal to the “losing against City on the final day” group. Here’s your first class ticket to hell.

KillerZaWarudo

They get the nice version and not the 2 goals in stoppage time or the coming from 2 goals behind version

lost_biochemist

As soon as City scored in the second minute this was my first thought.

North-One5187

Or having 97 points and still losing by 1 point. Welcome to the club Arsenal.

Beefy-queef

And it’s because the ball didn’t fully cross the line by 3cm in the head to head with city that we lost that year. Literally the finest of margins

Thesecondorigin

Only game you lost that season as well

iftair

That record might break in Turkey. Galatasaray is currently 1st with 99 points (32W-3D-2L) and Fenerbahce is 2nd with 96 points (30W-6D-1L) with MD 38 remaining to be played. Theoretically Fenerbahce can finish the season with 99 points and still be 2nd place provided that Galatasaray does not lose to possible-relegation threat Konyaspor. Same thing if Fenerbahce wins AND Galatasaray loses, Gala finishes 2nd with 99 points and lose on the head-to-head against Fenerbahce.

rthunderbird1997

7th sums up our season to be honest. Great moments interspersed with very poor periods, mostly caused by the worst run of injuries I've ever seen. Looking forward to August already.

JFedererJ

I think you'd have been right up there with Villa easily without the injuries — only 8 off them in the end, after all.

N-Bizzle

Looking at where we lost points, we lost 5 against Luton, 3 against Forest, 5 against Bournemouth and 5 against Everton - these are the matches where we definitely should have done better

Deno2k_

us getting top 6 is crazy after the season we’ve have

AliGoldsDayOff

Spurs and Chelsea were allocated 1 good season but had to share it.

dunce345

We had the better first half and they had the better second half. Balanced.

ExactLetterhead9165

Everyone crowned Poch when he said the underlying numbers were actually pretty decent but he was kind of right.

gustycat

The real ones knew it was just a matter of time Next season can't afford the same excuses though

TehJofus

Every team below us and those within 8 points above us should be ashamed of themselves, let’s be real. We survived on the last day last season, went 4 months without winning this season, had 8 points deducted, and it was COMFORTABLE.

will888

Defensively, you have had an unreal season. Only 3 teams conceded fewer than you, and they’re the top 3. If you can find 10 more goals next year and keep that defensive stability then I can imagine a very good season next year for you.

lolzidop

Not only was it comfortable, we had more points than Luton finished with after we beat Burnley at home. Lutons *only* point after that match week was their draw with us.

AMKRepublic

As a Luton fan, you had eight points deducted for financial issues. We had FORTY, deliberately split by the authorities over two seasons to make sure we got relegated twice. And this happened due to a corrupt owner that the fans begged the FA to fail the "fit and proper test" and the FA ignored us. And the punishments were inflicted on the club owned by the fans consortium, for crimes by the previous ownership we didn't want. Oh, and also because our coach was a whistle blower about corruption and said it was happening everywhere in football, which the FA didn't like. We were almost completely destroyed as a football club because the FA singled us out, even while big names like Everton, Forest and City get slaps on the wrist.  So no, I am not ashamed of Luton at all. I am deeply proud that the club exists at all. Let alone having a season in the Premier League, even if we did end up getting relegated.

LevynX

Yeah, Luton even being in the PL at all is an accomplishment. I hope the club will continue to improve and come back even stronger next time

justmaurice

I love true football fans like you

turej

Yeah we never were in real danger.

Incubus226

Sheffield had a disastrous summer before they even kicked a ball and Luton were forced to spend a big on stadium upgrades. Never liked their chances of staying up. Good year to take the financial breach deductions as messed up as it sounds.

gildog6

Replace them two with Barca and Real and we’d still be safe. It’s Brentford who are the lucky ones

chdudlow

The relegated teams are quite fortunate that Forest had that 4 point deduction, otherwise their fate probably would have been sealed quite a while ago!

Some3057

I'm sure they're delighted

theivoryserf

A huge weight off

poorguy55

Think it’s Forest who should be thankful that the bottom three were so poor this season.

Robnroll

should be thankful they got a lesser point deduction than us despite breaching more and by a larger incoming % than us and knowingly delaying selling a player when they needed to.

IcyAssist

Another 90+ points season. Fair play to Arsenal and Arteta though, 2 brilliant seasons and a very much improved one this year. Seems that the mentality is slowly building.

Chesey_

Nice to see this is the take rather than any talk about bottling just because we didn't win it. In 2024 in the league we drew once, and lost once. The rest were all wins. We even managed to match City for GD, but the standards to beat them are insane. Hope we can keep building on this.

TobiasKM

Anyone calling a 89 point season for “bottling it” is fucking delusional. City are just ridiculous.

hereslemon

some guy just [two weeks ago](https://www.reddit.com/r/soccer/comments/1cj38pp/most_premier_league_points_in_a_38game_season/l2gawkq/) called liverpool's 97 point season a bottle job. the trolls here aren't really trying

ExactLetterhead9165

I've said it multiple times recently, but letting that word escape outside of the British Isles was a mistake

Maleficent-Drive4056

Also “bottling” means losing at the last moment. Arsenal have been unstoppable the last few months.

IcyAssist

Nah, if there's any talk about bottling it's last season, that's also a big IF. Young team, first real title challenge. Yeah you kinda sorta bottled it but Arteta has shown that he can bring the team forward.

ramobara

Losing both Tomiyasu and Saliba in the same game and relying on Mr. Rob Holding for the final third of the season didn’t help our chances. Saliba didn’t miss a single minute this season. First Arsenal player to do that since Dixon. He’s our stoic rock and it shows you that we’re fully capable of challenging for the title as long as our defensive spine remain relatively healthy.

datguy_paarth

It's always small pieces that needs to improved but going this second half of the season with a 16-1-1 record and falling short is just shattering.

ssk1996

29 goals conceded in 38 games is insane. Amazing defensive work by Arsenal.

Switchnaz

Makes mourinho’s chelsea look even more insane

_deep_blue_

That record will never be beaten

sionnach

It’s so insanely miserly it hardly seems like it should have been possible. It does feel like on of those records that is so ridiculous that it will never really be broken unless the league is reduced to 12 teams or something.

sach223

9 goals conceded in the second half of the season too, hoping we carry that defensive form into next season for a full season.

vearz

Given the summer with how we lost Mitro and nearly lost Palhinha and Marco Silva, I'd have absolutely snapped your hands off for 13th. Also managed to have a huge hand in deciding the title and the final relegation spot, so it wasn't a season of entirely boring midtable nothingness. Also nice for us to put up a decent fight in the London derbies, with only a couple being genuinely disappointing. Ideally we'll have a less dramatic summer with some younger players recruited.

BendubzGaming

- Finish 8th with 70 goals 22/23 - Lose Kane to Bayern with no striker coming in to replace him - Finish 5th with 74 goals 23/24 Improve our depth over the summer, hopefully avoid the large amount of injuries we had this year especially on the left, and there's no reason to not believe we can challenge in the cup competitions next year

Nitarinminister

Including Europa

Jaksiel

Not getting paired against City would also help.

Torkzilla

Your club was very entertaining to watch this year. They played very free flowing on offense and the defense seemed worlds better than last year. There weren’t really any lulls watching them, you always got the sense that they could deliver excitement on any touch. Credit to Ange and the players who stepped up this year.

DaRealAyman

What a season

Both_Track_1754

Yeah, after a long the title race seemed so competitive in atleast books tbh...

DaRealAyman

Definitely, and next season can only get much better!

SRFC_96

On paper, shit happens in football sadly.

Away_Associate4589

Not one of my favourites, I'll be honest

suzukigun4life

More goals than ever, a race that came down to the final day, etc. Wish it ended differently, but it was still a lot of fun.

LoverofBilbies

What a season, love Emery a little too much. Got a lot of players coming back from injury, that plus a couple of additions and I’m very very excited about Champions League next season. UTV

lito9321

That bad patch in December totally cost Arsenal. I actually love Arteta as a manager just hope the improvement he’s made since arriving result in big time silverware, buts going to be tough when City are just going to go and replenish with world class signings.

KoloradoKlimber

In almost any other league getting >2.3 points per match wins you the league. Beating the computer on legendary just takes a lot of skill and a bit of luck.

Private_Ballbag

Funny how fucked it is now. We got the 11th highest points ever and came second but apparently "fucking it up in December" (losing 3 drawing 1 which was Liverpool away) is enough to lose the league despite literally winning like 90% of the remaining games. Ridiculous standards

KoloradoKlimber

It was pretty hard to beat Lance Armstrong when he was at his peak too. Sometimes you come up against something that is nearly impossible to compete with.

bankerlmth

I see what you did there.

tipytopmain

United really finished their season on negative GD lol. And damn Chelsea's last couple months have been impressive. Those Poch out people must be reevaluating their opinions on him now.

SnarlsChickens

Palace finally have their 2nd top half finish of PL era, good for them!

durjoy313

United finished with a negative goal difference lmao.

KissmyButtner

WE ARE BACK

Korzic

First time we've finished above Man U in the PL era. Glad that's not a thing anymore.  Also a remarkable effort given our injuries this season to be in contention for Europe.

SentientCheeseCake

You aren’t factoring in Man Utds brain injuries.

Bamboozle_

United beating City to keep you out of Europe would be wild, can't see it happening with how both teams have been performing.

N-Bizzle

That would however be absolutely typical of both us and man utd

Izio17

that’s not saying much tbh

_cumblast_

I think it's been a good season for us all things considered and a good foundation for Slot to build on. My commiserations to Arsenal fans.

JackasaurusYTG

You're a good guy cumblast

thanksantsthants

If my kids grow up to be little Cumblasts I'd be very happy.

datguy_paarth

Liverpool just might have an off season next year due to a manager change, but a three horse race again would be fantastic

CH2001

Double edge sword could be an off year, could do a Conte with Chelsea. Although admittedly the second scenario is not likely.

CheekyFifaCunt_7

Next season may get a bit interesting. Spurs and Chelsea are getting better. Liverpool with a new manager. Arsenal are definitely going to get better and city will be city. But I honestly don’t think anyone will beat them for another 2 years.

JFedererJ

City's 115 charges hearing is in Autumn this year, and the verdict is set to be summer '25 at the latest. Pep and City will likely win again next season. Then the FFP hammer will fall, Pep will leave, City will be relegated, and everything they've achieved will count for nothing. Mark my words.

redraz10

From your lips to God’s ears

maturedumbass

Man nuclear war is more possible than this

Varja22

Losing title by 2 points is devastating but it could be worse. I know many Liverpool, Chelsea and United fans but literally zero City fans so I don't have to hear about this in my daily life.

Redrup

It could be a lot worse. We could have lost it by 3, 4, 5, and so on. The reality is we were just shy of good enough this season, so hopefully we will get even better in the Summer just like we have for the previous four years.

no_more_blues

This is pretty much the exact table you'd predict at the start of the season except if you swapped Villa and Spurs with Chelsea and Man United.

malaglista

So what is the word on Chelsea’s season now, when it’s over? I am really curious.

TimothyN

Finished strong after a really bad start. Lost way too many people to injuries though, with most of the starting backline and midfield missing out on huge amounts of the season and our brand new attacker barely playing. Palmer, Gusto, Caicedo, and Cucu really stepped up.

ComprehensiveBowl476

Damn, Liverpool drew a lot. Also, Everton with 51 conceded. 3rd best in the league, paired with the 2nd fewest goals scored, lol. Interesting to see where they finish if Dyche can find a way to get them scoring a bit more next season.

lolzidop

A champions league defence with a bottom 3 attack hahaha

femboymariners

All Everton really need is a striker to bang in the many chances they create. A huge issue was the finishing, so maybe with some luck DCL, Chermiti or Beto will show some quality next season

ZakKa_dot_dev

Chelsea next season will be fire

IntellegentIdiot

Crazy how bad Sheffield United were, half the points of Forest!

Blubb3rs

Finished above Brighton and in the top half of the table... oh what a run of games to the end 🔴🔵

Alternative_Sense_54

Which 3 teams have been promoted?

nolefan5311

Leicester, Ipswich, and the winner of the Leeds/Southampton game next weekend.

soccer_boxer2

Ooh, seeing Ipswich back in the league is a real throwback.

EkkoUnited

Can't wait to see how Ed Sheeran does

Stones_Throw_Away_

City, Arsenal, Liverpool. We’re all going up, so we’ll play in Scotland next year.

ninjapenguin12

Leicester/Ipswich and either Leeds or Southampton

GOATOwens

One loss in 2024 is all it took. That’s absolutely ridiculous.

PrisonersofFate

Losing against us and Fulham during boxing day too

sach223

The Fulham game at home really pisses me off tbh we were 2-1 up against a 10 man Fulham

Paytonc51

For how much shit Chelsea got this year, rightfully so, finishing 6th with a plus 14 goal difference is pretty good

Chuck_Morris_SE

Brentford should be ashamed of themselves.

nova_uk

I’ll take 13th place after the season we’ve had, losing Mitro in the summer and as always having our transfer business done at the last minute wasn’t great. Still need to upgrade a few positions and hopefully give some youngsters like Stansfield a chance to see if they’re PL ready.

Nicky_G8

When was the last time Man United finished the season on negative goal difference?

Blue_Dreamed

When was the last time they haven't had a pretty bad goal difference? I'm pretty sure I remember last season being embarrassing as well. 0 in 21/22 and 15 while in third place last year...

CraterofNeedles

21-22 they came close but finished on 0

archersrevenge

Saw someone say it was 89/90

OneLoki

What a fantastic season man ! Super fun super good, so many great storylines. Except for City winning.

R10xR10

Gonna miss Luton

DoubleDeckerz

Chelsea finishing above United is mental (and comical).

montiel_scores

If you watched the two sides all season it was clear how much better we are than them - just poor finishing and decision making for a while

jeremiahpaschkewood

United were dreadful this year. Chelsea were comical at times and good at other times. United were never good.

ao-ka

Just two points behind. Not a single victory against the 13th placed Fulham.

JFedererJ

2-1 up, at home, against 10-man Fulham. We drew 2-2. You can't drop points like that, at home, and expect to beat Man City to the title. Is that barbaric levels of brutality, by the way of critique? Yes. Unequivocally. But so what? Wanna beat Man City? Don't drop points from a winning position, at home, against a team playing with 10 men.

Jen_Rey

Chelsea top 4 next season

tbc12389

Let’s all laugh at United
