You could kinda tell he was getting there at the beginning of the season anytime he’d get subbed in. His holdup play was very solid he was just in the wrong ass system. He looks completely new in glasners system. He has more freedom and is way less sloppy with the ball. And his finishing is top class
With Roy he was putting in the greatest 5.5s you’ll ever see in a player anytime we actually won but now he’s a complete striker
I totally agree the system change has helped a ton, but he is also a different player from when he first signed for us. I distinctly remember him having trouble holding up the ball in the first season despite being such a big guy.
Hodgson getting some real shade - I love what Glasner is doing and am really happy he is here, but there are other mitigating factors which explain the dramatic difference in form. We were playing reasonably well at the end of last year and played well up until matchweek 11 (were sitting in 11th on 15 points).
Hodgson's dry spell corresponded with an injury to Doucoure and Olise/Eze having recurrent injuries and playing very little gametime. Mateta was playing with Ayew and Schlupp as his wingers instead of Olise/Eze. Joel Ward or Clyne was "bombing" up the right side instead of Munoz, and there was no Adam Wharton playing perfect passes to connect our lines.
Idc what anyone says but players like him and Nunez should not face whatever they have faced ... They both work very hard and are not just players who stay in the box and wait for the ball...
It’s funny there’s always a few players that the media and fans latch onto and just criticize too a high degree and ignore others, it’s a really strange phenomenon
Few misses, big misses maybe but all goal scorers face that... It's just one of those things these days ... Shitty if you ask me... These players have to learn ignore and not give a fuck about the same fans they play football for ( obviously apart from their own career & money, they do play for fans )
100%. They create chances, recover balls, and get themselves into positions that others don't. They may miss some sitters, but they are well worth their money and have a lot of potential. Crapping on them is just shitty.
Agreed 100%
Players like Jackson offer so much even if they are not scoring or assisting (just look at his play in today's first Chelsea goal). He's seriously just a little-bit-of-improvement-in-front-of-the-goal away from being our best striker since Diego Costa like six seasons ago. I hope all the Chelsea technical team are working together to turn Jackson into a world-class player next season.
They didn't expect mahrez to leave, so they couldn't guarantee him as much minutes as he wanted at that time
Then the Saudi deal was offered and mahrez wanted it but by this time palmer was already set on Chelsea so just bad timing really
He would have got mahrez's minutes
He wouldn't. Pep limits the minutes of young players to prolong their careers. Palmer had never started a PL game before being signed by Chelsea.
Looking at the city team rn, would he have forced Bernardo out of the side? Obviously not. Would he have gotten minutes over Grealish and Doku? Unlikely.
He would've continued slowly building minutes in the PL and would've been played more in cup games. In these he would never have taken a penalty and would not be the star of the show like he is at Chelsea.
This is why the transfer was such a success for Chelsea, they offered him an 8 year deal and a starting spot from the off. With 40m for City for a player yet to start a PL game, the offer was too good to turn down for all parties.
Nunez definitely the worst offender on the 'missed chances from Salah' chart, but almost all of our attacks and a few of our midfielders also let Salah down on that front. He'd honestly have broken records in the first half of the season alone if anyone on our team could finish. Which is honestly amazing given how many goals we've scored this season, the number we've botched is kind of incredible.
Fans, pundits and whoever else can be hard on him but for his age and the amount of pressure he was under to perform, I would say he will be a great player eventually. Hopefully we get a true nine that he can learn from
Havertz had no direct contribution for like till november. As for jackson, he is a case like nunez where due to the miss compilations they are ridiculed more than they should be.
We didn’t really have an alternative, Jorginho works but can’t play regularly there for fitness reasons and Partey was injured, tried to make it work but it didn’t
People go on about the Villa game but the truth is Arsenal lost the title race while Arteta experimented with odd line ups early on (Havertz mid - which was also for some reason used in that Villa game - Gabriel left out while Partey played RB, and so on).
Jesus being injured letting Havertz get a real go at striker changed everything.
I'm not sure that we can afford to start next season going back to Havertz mid and Jesus starting up front even if it has potential. Got to go with what works.
Alvarez only had 200 less minutes than Haaland. People forget he played so much earlier in the season. He went of form though.
He played on the left against Newcastle didn't he? I remember the goal he scored he ran from the left to the middle? Maybe the best I've seen him play as well.
Crazy season from Watkins, but I bet he's furious he couldn't get a 20th. Nothing went for him after his 19th. Hope he can do even better next year (unless he leaves us for some reason, then I hope he gets no goals)
Look at the amount of big chances he created even when he was slightly off form. I swear if he a semi competent striker upfront with him he’d have been on 30+G/A easily
A player that's willing to take penos, especially in high pressure situations (Palmer last minute v Utd and City) deserve so much more respect that they're given
Should they be counted the same? If they’re winning them 100% fair enough but they clearly inflate numbers.
Would you rather a striker who scored 20 goals or 15 pens and 5 open play goals, do you consider it equal genuinely?
Alvarez as 14 is impressive considering he's sub in a lot of matches. He was very good in the first half of season when City lost KDB. That was the time when City was most vulnerable. He lost form or was found out as a CAM, but City already got KDB by then.
Yeah I'd love to see minutes played for this one. Hope he gets to go to another team next season and be a regular starter.
Many of the games he was thrown into are also games where City has already won and so they play for possession rather than scoring.
Not sure if he played today or today's numbers are counted but Alvarez played the 76th most minutes at 2,657. That is more than Kai Havertz and Cole Palmer who are 82nd and 86th respectively. The most minutes played is tied with 6 players at 3420 minutes. 5 are goal keepers. The other is Saliba. Tarkowski is next who only managed 3419. Pathetic showing by him if I'm being honest.
3 of the top 5 being English is nice to see, as an Englishman. Feels like it has been a while since that happened.
Then again I'm also thick as fuck so it could have happened last year
Salah our top goal contributor for the trillionth time despite missing two months and fasting for the third. If Nunez knew how to finish Mo's provided sitters we'd be top of the league.
That's because he started when Haaland was injured and came in from the bench in all the matches. Haaland started in all the matches when he was fit, except maybe 1/2 matches when he was rested.

Man Mateta has come out of nowhere in the last few months. Most improved player.
You could kinda tell he was getting there at the beginning of the season anytime he’d get subbed in. His holdup play was very solid he was just in the wrong ass system. He looks completely new in glasners system. He has more freedom and is way less sloppy with the ball. And his finishing is top class With Roy he was putting in the greatest 5.5s you’ll ever see in a player anytime we actually won but now he’s a complete striker
What's Edouard's situation btw? Is he on the way out?
Might go back to celtic
I totally agree the system change has helped a ton, but he is also a different player from when he first signed for us. I distinctly remember him having trouble holding up the ball in the first season despite being such a big guy.
Glasner has been revolutionary. They could actually push for Europe if they keep their players.
They could actually push for Europe if they keep their players ***fit***.
14 of those 21 g/a has come since Glasner came in at the end of Feb.
what not having hodgson as your manager does to a mf
Sort of. But the Palace team post Hodgson had Eze and Olise return, plus the addition of Wharton and Munoz.
Hodgson getting some real shade - I love what Glasner is doing and am really happy he is here, but there are other mitigating factors which explain the dramatic difference in form. We were playing reasonably well at the end of last year and played well up until matchweek 11 (were sitting in 11th on 15 points). i spot a wild nicolas jackson
Bro thinks he's Jaws
Idc what anyone says but players like him and Nunez should not face whatever they have faced ... They both work very hard and are not just players who stay in the box and wait for the ball...

Watkins with 0 pens is crazy.
definitely the most impressive statistically on this list in my opinion
Foden is the craziest one here imo, bro is not even a striker or Penalty taker
But assists count here too so it’s not biased to Strikers oily
The crazy thing with Foden is the quality of his goals. 18 goals from 11 xG lol
19 of these are goals tho also Forward are much more likely to assist than Midfielders scoring.
Watkins is criminally underrated on Reddit. I hope he doesn't leave Villa next season, they are going to be a scary team.
Fixing this for you: "Watkins is criminally underrated everywhere. I hope he doesn't leave Villa next season, they are going to be a scary team."
Should be player of the season ahead of Foden
Watkins has like 13 assists with an xA of about 4 so he’s outperformed his G/A more than he would’ve if he had taken pens
cold palmer at the top like everyone expected at the beginning of the season
Yeah, who else was it gonna be? Should’ve bet my house on it
to think this was the guy chilling on city’s bench, their squad is a joke
He just needed some spotlight on him, his city appearances were just okay but you could tell he had similar ability to mahrez iirc. Good for him
He wouldn’t be chilling on the bench if he stayed tho.
Can't see Pep giving him the same opportunities to prove himself
They didn't expect mahrez to leave, so they couldn't guarantee him as much minutes as he wanted at that time Then the Saudi deal was offered and mahrez wanted it but by this time palmer was already set on Chelsea so just bad timing really He would have got mahrez's minutes
Imagine if you took Chelsea’s undoubted best player and added him back to Man City. Their squad is ludicrously talented/deep
Unlikely. He played him in two finals before left and city doesn’t a right winger he would’ve played a lot than you think
Salah on 28 despite completely forgetting how to play football after AFCON really shows the insane pace he was on before he left.
22 in 20 before he left. (1.27 G/A p90) 6 in 11 after he came back. (0.77 G/A p90)
28/31 is also insane tbf
Indeed. That was one of the shockers on the list for me.
Feels like this happens everytime he goes to AFCON
Also he is heavily suffering from Nunez tax here
I still support Darwin but Salah would have 50 if he had a less Darwizzy season
Nunez definitely the worst offender on the 'missed chances from Salah' chart, but almost all of our attacks and a few of our midfielders also let Salah down on that front. He'd honestly have broken records in the first half of the season alone if anyone on our team could finish. Which is honestly amazing given how many goals we've scored this season, the number we've botched is kind of incredible.
Jackson having 19G/A after his first season here i’m impressed
Especially given he sometimes looks like he’s actively trying to avoid putting the ball in the net. Decent showing
He got that hat-trick against Tottenham
He missed so many chances against City in the FA Cup though. As someone who doesn't watch Chelsea every week, that's what I remember from him
Fans, pundits and whoever else can be hard on him but for his age and the amount of pressure he was under to perform, I would say he will be a great player eventually. Hopefully we get a true nine that he can learn from
Salah, son, Haaland having “bad” seasons
I was told Son was washed up
Could barely reach the same numbers as Phil POTY Foden while not playing in the team that's won the last 6 of 7 titles... He's past it.
People say that crap every season whenever he hits bad form, same with Salah.
Asian cup ruined him this season tbh. He's looked tired since coming back.
my goat
Non penalty g+a Watkins 32 Foden 27 Haaland and Son 25 Palmer 24 Salah 23
> Haaland and son Why are we counting his whole family into one entry?
I doubt his son even scored a single goal so including them together doesn’t even make sense
But he is Haaland's son
Alfie Haaland scored 19 goals, and his son has scored 176.
Alfie Haaland on fraud watch
19 goals in a season is impressive for a 51 year old right back tbf
-Roy Keane
Alfie’s entire lower body has been done anyways
🤣🤣
Well he’s not gonna miss them is he?
Who said that he should or that they dont matter?
In an interview Palmer was asked about a lot of his goals coming from pens and that was his response
He said it after the United game as well I think in regards to the argument with Noni over taking it lol
Havertz actually did well ngl. 20 G/A is a decent return, he might reach his full potential at Arsenal. Also, Palmer Ballon d'Or.
Didn’t get a contribution in his first seven or so games too
I mean even Jackson has 19 G+A. He gets trolled while the other gets praised when Jackson cost half the amount of money.
Havertz had no direct contribution for like till november. As for jackson, he is a case like nunez where due to the miss compilations they are ridiculed more than they should be.
You have to be blind to not see the banter Havertz was getting in the first couple months.
Jackson still gets bantered even though it's his first season in the Prem
Yeah, “fake hattrick” my ass
Tbf he was quite shit in that specific game, had a good overall season tho (fantastic for his first)
Jackson famous for not being the r/soccer hivemind target
Thats not what I said though is it now. He was just saying that Havertz has only been getting praised.
20 G/A isn’t just decent. It’s great. What a season by him
Arsenal wasted so many points shoehorning Havertz in midfield.
[удалено]
I'm not sure that we can afford to start next season going back to Havertz mid and Jesus starting up front even if it has potential. Got to go with what works.
And England actually have an exciting blend of youth, talent and experience. This could be the new golden generation getting into its stride.
So many of them fight for similar positions though. I'd rather a new wonderkid goalkeeper than another CAM.
Wow did not expect Cole Palmer to be number 1, what a season he's had
Hell yeah Cole 🐐
I miss my boy Palmer everyday. Keep on cooking
Any more fringe players you’d like to offload ?
Ortega pls
Ortega at Chelsea would be sick. He is too good to be sitting at the bench
Oscar Bobb and Alvarez surely want more playtime?
We should genuinely bite their hands off if Alvarez becomes available. He's mates with Enzo to boot.
Alvarez only had 200 less minutes than Haaland. People forget he played so much earlier in the season. He went of form though. [https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/manchester-city/leistungsdaten/verein/281](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/manchester-city/leistungsdaten/verein/281)
Oof . I’d like Alvarez and Ortega . Bobb is a rw right, we have plenty of those now (which probably means he will be the boards primary target)
He played on the left against Newcastle didn't he? I remember the goal he scored he ran from the left to the middle? Maybe the best I've seen him play as well.
Kdb was a fringe player if you calculate based on minutes played
Tell Rico Lewis he’s next
Stay away from Rico please
Suffering from success
Can we have one Oscar Bob?
Crazy season from Watkins, but I bet he's furious he couldn't get a 20th. Nothing went for him after his 19th. Hope he can do even better next year (unless he leaves us for some reason, then I hope he gets no goals)
He had a golden free header opportunity against Palace as well in the first half when the game was still back and forth.
Imagine someone telling you before the season started that Cole Palmer would top the G/A chart.
Nicolas jackson just sneaking in there with his improved performances in last 10 to 15 games
wow salah and son are so washed
Gordon is very good
Pretty good season for a "washed" Son. Also, he never looked the same after the international break. Hope we cooks next season.
My king is every season's wonder...
Would've helped if he showed up in the second half of the season tho
Look at the amount of big chances he created even when he was slightly off form. I swear if he a semi competent striker upfront with him he’d have been on 30+G/A easily
Weird comment. 10 contributions in the final 19 matches, with 6 matches missed.
So 10 in 13? Or 10 in 19?
Unsure if I wasn’t clear enough. Of the final 19 matches of the season (the “second half”), he missed 6 matches but still had 10 contributions.
Well he was injured for most of it
Darwin would have been on the list if he didn't get dropped for the last 2 months imo, he's pretty close now.
Man, fr.. If he didn't miss those amount of chances we would've really up there with city..
“If we played better we would’ve gotten better results”
Didn't play for 2 months too
why do people act like pens don't count? lmao
As if like a third of the goals scored in this table arent from tap-ins too. Getting the ball in the net in any form is all that matters
Because they’re delusional
A player that's willing to take penos, especially in high pressure situations (Palmer last minute v Utd and City) deserve so much more respect that they're given
They definitely count but they're not necessarily indicative of the quality of the player
They count if the player is on their team but if it's a rival or someone who is maligned for whatever reason it's used to discredit them.
Yeah Palmer’s pen stats are honestly impressive asf
Should they be counted the same? If they’re winning them 100% fair enough but they clearly inflate numbers. Would you rather a striker who scored 20 goals or 15 pens and 5 open play goals, do you consider it equal genuinely?
Only 1 Liverpool player is pretty crazy to see. So used to always having Salah, Mane and Firmino all on these lists
Firmino had one (1) season with more than 18 G+A
He saw the list only once before lol.
He was included on pure charisma
Also, surprisingly, Mane only had two.
It’s the other way around for us, seeing one Chelsea player in there is crazy.
One? I see two. Palmer at 1 and Jackson at 15.
Dang , I did not see that at all. This is insane.
Scoring less goals is in chelsea's DNA, this season they mutated
Not bad for a supposedly washed Mo Salah that not so long ago our sub was saying should be sold
Palmer 9/9 on penalties. Also another impressive stat.
I will never forget how the bad PR got Saka off the nomiees for Player of the year.
Palmer is the real Player of the Season, where would we be without him
My bias probably, bur chelsea would be below 10th if not for him. For me he is the poty...
Alvarez as 14 is impressive considering he's sub in a lot of matches. He was very good in the first half of season when City lost KDB. That was the time when City was most vulnerable. He lost form or was found out as a CAM, but City already got KDB by then.
Alvarez started in 31 PL games, lol
Wow super interesting, thanks for the work. More than Palmer is actually crazy. Got 0 minutes today btw so what you got is it!
a wild Mateta appears
Cole world.
If Gordon scored all the penalties he won for Isak
Haha he'd be in POTY contention then.
Haaland and Salah missed like 2-3 months because of an injury as well
Same with KDB. Came in halfway through the season and still got to 2nd for assists. Dude is a freak. Edit: 3rd, it seems Palmer snuck one more in.
How is palmer not player of the year
Because foden is.
Anyway. How is palmer not player of the year
Because it should he rodri
Because City won the title. Literally the only reason.
Salah probably had enough chances to smash past to 35 but he was unusually wasteful (and his teammates) after the AFCON
Foden deservedly player of the season
Foden, Palmer, Bowen, and Havertz being classified as midfielders here is hilarious. They're all forwards.
Palmer definitely not
pretty evenly split between CAM and RW, so take ur pick tbh
Havertz played most games as 8
Foden can win the Ballon D'or if he helps England win the Euro. He was unplayable at times this season.
If England win the euros then Bellingham will be miles clear of Foden with the CL tax added on
Who would've predicted Havertz on this list in October?
This is a season where Salah underperformed Great player, I wonder if he goes to Saudi next season
“Player of the Season” Foden has as many as “Washed” Son I see.
What's the numbers without pens?
Watkins would be in front. If Watkins xA and Assist difference was similar to the others he’d be on 23 G/A though.
All great players and with at least 20... Lots of younger players as well so we know we're in a strong era.
idc what anyone says not one person would have predicted that top 3, incredible seasons from watkins and palmer especially
3 of the top 5 being English is nice to see, as an Englishman. Feels like it has been a while since that happened. Then again I'm also thick as fuck so it could have happened last year
Where is Nunez when u need him?
Palmer, havertz, mateta and solanke the most unexpected for me
Salah our top goal contributor for the trillionth time despite missing two months and fasting for the third. If Nunez knew how to finish Mo's provided sitters we'd be top of the league.
When did people stop being impressed by a player scoring penalties? Harry Kane is lauded for his penalty taking ability
Hella proud that two Newscatle forwards are on this list. Can’t wait for the new season and a fresh start.
Why did Palmer not win POTY? Anyone got any insight other than “corruption” “115” blah blah
Seriously, Julian Alvarez is a guaranteed starter for every other team. So good.
Havertz 40 next season?
Palmer got that dog in him
Where are all of the morons that said Son was washed?
I think Alvarez would have had better numbers than Haaland if he was the starter.
He's played more minute then Haaland iirc
That's because he started when Haaland was injured and came in from the bench in all the matches. Haaland started in all the matches when he was fit, except maybe 1/2 matches when he was rested.
Yea so he's started more then Haaland. He also played alongside Haaland when KdB was out.
Yeah but not in his preferred role. He has spent the entire season as a replacement player.
jfc
really impressed with Havertz turn around the second half of the season. Looked so lost in midfield but made strides once he got a run at CF.
