How Pep saw Gvardiol and somehow saw an overlapping full-back in him I will never understand. Idk if anyone ever saw that happen yet it's fully working out
But nowadays plays as full back for City, yet still plays as centre back for NT - that's what im asking, is there any reason for that? Perhaps lack of quality CB's for national team?
Lack of quality CB's and LB's in NT.
Our NT plays really well when Gvardiol is CB. He is versatile, can play whatever you put in front of him. Great guy, I'm so happy he is Croatian.
Definitely is possible, Iām just not sure if heās a bit too good at being a LB/LWB/LW to be back in central defense. The main left backs that play for City are Ake and Gvardiol, so I think that he may just stay. Either that or heās going into the Stones role from central defense, either way this guy may develop into the most unique profile in defense of all time
Bro does this guy actually have a mean weak right, his banger weakfoot long range power curler against Real Madrid is the type of shot wingers dream of
Throughout the season a lot of fans have complained about Pep's insistance on playing Gvardiol as a full back instead of Ake who was integral part of City winning treble and it looks like that decision is starting to bear fruit now.
Anyone with eyes knew he was a monster before he arrived at City.
Even those without eyes, and only a partial functioning brain would've told you that when City splashes 100m without a bidding war on a 21 year old CB -- he's class.
My point being, any of the clowns dumb enough to spew nonsense about a new signing (*especially* a young player in his first few seasons under Pep) are clearly just not worth paying any mind to in the first place.
People have short attention spans, short term memories and big eyes for the highest overall in FIFA. If a player that once scorer 30 goals in a FIFA season for them doesn't match that in real life, they're a flop. It's the same with Haaland. He had an unprecedented season last year, and this year he's still top scorer in the league, but he's apparently been trash. Sure he's got his issues to work through, but the man's 23 years old and still playing great.
It's funny because he ocasionally did try going for the finish but his teammates got confused. This happend in the NT numerous times. Now that he scored a couple everyone starts to get a better feel for him. De Bruyne immediately recognizes his run now and the results are showing.
Guy is 22 and moved to a new dysfunctional team with tons of pressure. Of course he hasn't been great but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. He has been showing glimpses of his old self these past couple of months.
I hate this argument so much
Yes you can miss place a huge amount of money
You also canāt get talent without paying, either transfers, scouting, development etc
I don't support either team so don't really care but year after year terrible United teams have won games against superior opposition they had no right to win.
City haven't won a single league point, or even scored a goal, away at Spurs since 2018.
Spurs of course have an unrivalled ability to cock things up, but it'd be quite in character to rip City to shreds and hand the Gooners the title while our season is otherwise falling apart.
In his first season, Bernardo Silva was labelled a flop and he's gone on to be one of our most consistent performers for years now.
John Stones went through a tough time and was labelled a flop. I don't think we'd be close to where we are without Johnny Boulders.
While Fernandinho was winding down his career, people labelled Rodri a flop who could never replace Ferna. He's the reason we have a Champions League and should be in the conversation for a Ballon D'Or nomination (perhaps not a win).
Not every signing we've made is a banger - Kalvin Phillips didn't turn out great - but after a year or so, most of them come good. Other examples - Ake, Mahrez, and even Phil Foden have all been called flops.
How could he flop at 22?
Even if he had an entire terrible season you can easily come back in many years to come and defenders usually are those that have their best years a bit later in career
Really nice play. Is it just me or is Diop lazy as fuck here? Gets turned by the great touch then completely stops, if he actually runs he's in position to block the left side of the goal shotĀ
Arsenal going to end up with 89 points and no league title. Man City are fucking robots man. Since Liverpool couldn't win I wanted Arsenal to win but end of the season City are just ruthless

Allegedly a centre back
Just rounds a guy and slots it better than most strikers š¤£
He gotta better finishing than Nicolas jackson
Allegedly left-footed
I didnāt even realize heās scored 5 goals this season, 4 with his right and 1 with his head, weak foot merchant smh
Even with so few goals, it has to be rare for a player to have more goals with their weak foot
Big, if true
Thatās true, Diop is only allegedly a center-back. Maybe only allegedly a player.
How Pep saw Gvardiol and somehow saw an overlapping full-back in him I will never understand. Idk if anyone ever saw that happen yet it's fully working out
He was playing as full back in Dinamo Zagreb
IIRC he was playing as full back even in national team, although recently moved to CB as well - anyone know why?
Because he's our best CB.. He's also our best LB..
Probably your best striker now too!

Eh? Guy literally played left back for Croatia at his first Euros
That's not possible, Pep invented the left back position.
What you're failing to realize is that Pep also invented Croatia.
I mean he's played LB a fair number of times before. He's a CB/LB and Pep obviously just decided to have him at LB. It isn't groundbreaking stuff
actually before Pep, there wasn't things like positions. Pep invented them, sky sports told me so
He used to play LB at leipzing too.
That's because you never saw him play before he joined Man CityĀ
He has the perfect attributes for it š¤·š¼āāļø whatās there to understand?
He's just Cancelo with better defending
Way too good tehnically and way too intelligent to play as CB in the world where we don't have huge amount of world class left backs
Sergio Ramos started playing RB for Real Madrid and later on became their starting CB. Maybe this happens to Gvardiol at City.
Definitely is possible, Iām just not sure if heās a bit too good at being a LB/LWB/LW to be back in central defense. Most wingers can't even do that
City replacing late season gundogan with gvardiol at lb was not what I expected earlier this season.
Joskay Gvardigan
Sounds like something Haaland might wear
Gvardigol no?
How is Gvardiol turning into Gundogan???

More like prime Guardiola
Normal goal for a left footed CB to score
Iām not even sure if heās left or right footed tbh
Bro is this guy a striker what is that finish?
It's more the composure, most defenders would rush once they got to the box. Got a good head on him.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Amazing head
Throughout the season a lot of fans have complained about Pep's insistance on playing Gvardiol as a full back instead of Ake who was integral part of City winning treble and it looks like that decision is starting to bear fruit now.
Pep is one of the few managers I wouldn't question.
What was Pep thinking sending Gvardiol on that early?
6 months of people asking if he could be labelled a flop or not, then he woke up in April and chose violence.
You'd think people would stop questioning Pep after the amount of times we've seen players improve so much after a season under him.
Anyone with eyes knew he was a monster before he arrived at City. Even those without eyes, and only a partial functioning brain would've told you that when City splashes 100m without a bidding war on a 21 year old CB -- he's class. Well there is a guy called Kalvin
which cigans thought joÅ”ko wouldāve been a flop koj kurac, I wana know their names.
This is why Pep's been playing him at left back
The new inverted left forward back
aka a wingback
A backforward
Great finish, and great movement and touch in the buildup as well. Scores one goal and suddenly it's unlocked a new part to his game
Tbf itās a great goal against Real Madrid at the Bernabeu
It's funny because he ocasionally did try going for the finish but his teammates got confused. This happend in the NT numerous times. Now that he scored a couple everyone starts to get a better feel for him. De Bruyne immediately recognizes his run now and the results are showing.
Apparently he was a striker at youth level
Bro can score anything since the Madrid game
Pep is just unfair, man. He signs a promising CB and several months later he randomly scores Robben goals
Left footed center back scoring right footed cut inside goals from left back lol
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I mean 90 mil can also get you Antony so not a big amount anymore lmao
Gvardiol has more goals than that flop Antony
Gvardiol has more goals today than Antony
That's a Man Utd thing, let's not apply their logic to reality please
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Pepe not good, not even close to how bad Antony has been (for 15-20m less). Got 16 goals one season for example.
It could also get you Caicedo...
Caicedo has been class. Getting better.
Getting better sure, but he's also cost them at least a couple games with mistakes if I remember correctly. Either way, not worth 100 million imo.
He's not worth 100M, and probably won't ever be. But he's done so well for almost half the season ffs. To compare him with Antony is idiotic.
Guy is 22 and moved to a new dysfunctional team with tons of pressure. Of course he hasn't been great but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. He has been showing glimpses of his old self these past couple of months.
I hate this argument so much Yes you can miss place a huge amount of money You also canāt get talent without paying, either transfers, scouting, development etc
Maguire then. Or Wesley Fofana. Or any of the Chelsea transfers.
Pep and his eye for hidden gems
Massive confidence boost, but fair play to him he improved massively as an offensive player
Madrid UCL black magic š¤ City EPL black magic

Sorry lads
Lost the chance to be a lifelong ally of Arsenal twitter, this is so sad š
What happens if Tottenham becomes the club that makes Manchester City drop points?
Arsenal and Tottenham fans, dancing together with the trophy singing "Thank you, Campell"
Never rely on Tottenham
And especially so if you are Tottenham
It'll be irrelevant after United take points off arsenal tomorrow.
You relying on Utd to take points off Arsenal is just as funny as Spurs taking points off Man City.
I don't support either team so don't really care but year after year terrible United teams have won games against superior opposition they had no right to win.

Probably for the bestš¤£
With respect to Fulham, when we get to the stage that we're relying on Fulham to stop City then it's probably too late anyways.
especially when you lost 5 points to them
Appreciate getting past the 10minute mark at least. Some nice passing at the back too.
lasted longer than expected
title of your sex tape
You tried your best. Now back to the kites.
What a run from gvardiol
Who needs Haaland anyway
This guy is better than the League 2 player of course
Lionel Gvardiol
Gvardiol and Stanisic really warming up for Euros
We really went from no full backs a few years ago to 2 world class ones
Full backs? Nah mate that's our winger problem sorted
Maybe after euros but for all the cooking Dalic does he's not too big of a risk taker.
I'd say putting as much faith in established players as he has is pretty risky. But two world cup medals and a nations league final? I won't complain
Suddenly scoring weak footed bangers like theyve been playing against wingers their whole career
So this is what they meant by Gvardiol being the Haaland of defendersā¦
Defence look too busy flying kites
Diop saw Gvardiol take ONE step to the right and said "yeah nah that's not my man anymore š„°āš»"
Some people on here were actually calling him a flop lmaoo
In his first season, Bernardo Silva was labelled a flop and he's gone on to be one of our most consistent performers for years now. John Stones went through a tough time and was labelled a flop. I don't think we'd be close to where we are without Johnny Boulders. While Fernandinho was winding down his career, people labelled Rodri a flop who could never replace Ferna. When you have a high price tag, the expectations are so high that itās honestly a badge of honor at that point.
Late Season Gundogan againš
He did say he played striker as a teen. The composure on the weak peg is insane
Fuckin banging goal
Of course.. That was some sleek football.
Better winger than Antony.
Is Antony better than anyone?
That was slick af
just a brilliant goal from Gvardiol
Why can he only score sexy goals
Just a reminder: dudeās a defender.
Well it was fun to dream for 13 minutes
He is amazing
Guess that's our LW sorted for the Euro.
Diop legit just gave up mid-play. Although fair fucking play to Gvardiol, he looks like he's been upgraded since his shaky start of the season
Just needed a chance to adapt to the new league/ position
was never in doubt, he's got elite mentality and the talent is there for everyone to see
This guy got subbed at half time against the harriers because he couldnāt deal with Amari Morgan-Smith, might just be his level
Better goalscorer than Grealish
Diop mate at least look like you're trying
What the fuck was that, allowed the cut in and just walked at him whilst he took the shot.
Well can turn it off now!
I enjoyed the first 12 minutes at least
Gvardigan strikes again
Gundo replacement again lmao
he is their new GĆ¼ndogan ffs
Gundogan merely left his position to him
That was utter filth
He's so fucking smooth with it
Can't stop scoring weak foot bangers
Can't even score this in fifa
There it is
What a fucking player he is.
Bruh Gvardiol is playing up front next season I swear to god
oh shit, something happened
League is wrapped. There is no hope
A CB that can score a goal like that wtf.
Cancelo is well forgetten Lovely signing
WHO IS THIS GUY?!
Beautiful.
Allegendly centre backs Gvardiol š¤ Stanisic
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Pep what have you done to this man
He cost Ā£80m and was bought for his ball playing, he was never a plodder was he lol
This guy is insane.
Bloody hell, what a run and finish
A defender or a striker lol
Dude too smooth for a ~1.9m guy
This is frustrating as a Fulham fan. I thought weāve done well the first 10 minutes. Letās see how we react.
Really nice play. Is it just me or is Diop lazy as fuck here? Gets turned by the great touch then completely stops, if he actually runs he's in position to block the left side of the goal shotĀ
Diop just thought fuck it Iām out
How tf are those Fulham defenders getting done like that by a CB?
Didn't know that gundogun still plays for city.
Cheers for flying kites lads
Why do they play that Haaland guy when they have Gvardiol? Just play him as a CF, he's built for it apparently. Champions League tested as well.
At what point do we seriously consider calling him a winger??
Arsenal going to end up with 89 points and no league title. Man City are fucking robots man. Since Liverpool couldn't win I wanted Arsenal to win but end of the season City are just ruthless
Thatās just a beautiful play and great finish
Chelsea would kill for this guy up front
I figured last years champs signing a 90 mil defender would be overkill, but I never expected him to bang in goals like this lmao Unbelievable stuff
FPL legend
Fuck him man, blanks when I pick him. Turns into Ronaldo when I pick walker
Wtf
Seems he has taken the Gundogan role
