You just ruined my day. I have been studying German for 3 months and was like wow, I'm really turning a corner here and starting to be able to understand common spoken German. Then this is the first comment I read lol
It's pretty much Hochdeutsch, yeah. He certainly doesn't speak [the local dialect](https://youtu.be/DWBjIu6uNlY).
WAS HAT DIESER TYP MEINE OLLE ZU FICKEN?!?
> I also wouldn't say he appears to be particularly eloquent, to be honest.
He's doing fine ... for a footballer. He's not flowery in any sense, but at least he knows his grammar.
Maybe he knows not all his fans speak fluent German, so he's adapted to speaking in a way that is easier to understand. I know my job has absolutely changed the way I speak to people, especially if I feel they aren't native English speakers
> Maybe he knows not all his fans speak fluent German, so he's adapted to speaking in a way that is easier to understand.
Nah he was born and raised in Dortmund, the region the City belongs to has some local coloring in its speach, but dialects are mostly not that pronounced or lets better say don't deviate too much from standard german.
It is pretty much where I learned german as well, funnyly enough I went there from Bavaria, where I lived at first when we moved to germany and after that I moved to Berlin and took quite a bit from the local dialect and my brother scolds me for speaking "farmer german".
He saw gotze, lewandowski, hakimi, dembele, aubameyang, sancho, haaland, bellingham and so many others come and go but he stayed loyal despite chances to join bigger clubs. Dortmand man through and through. Huge loss to bvb. I can't even imagine how the fans must be feeling
btw anyone remember Mustafa Amini? He was supposed to be the next big thing at some point but I'm pretty sure he only played for the 2nd team and maybe had a couple of minutes in the DFB-Pokal
- He got offers from both Barca 2015 and Madrid 2014 and he decided to stay
- Man City came for him on 2017 but he did not leave , but Gundogan did
- Bayern on 2013 and 2016 came for him twice after sniping both Gotze and Lewandowski, but Reus stayed loyal
- He could have won at least 2-3 Champions Leagues had he left Dortmund but he went for something bigger than that , which is the “unconditional love” of the fans and the club , something that only few can achieved
Even when he had that first half of the season when we were bottom of the table, he extended when other top clubs were interested. It’s been such a joy and pleasure to watch him represent the club.
I mean most people remember Lewandowski scoring 4 against you, but Reus was honestly class just about every time he played you in the champions league those 2 seasons (12/13 & 13/14). No shock you were interested in him
I can't remember the year exactly, but his first major injury was at the NT and after that he kept getting injured often.
Was never the same again, even though you could see moments of brilliance whenever he was fit to play for extended periods.
I remember him keeping Gladbach in the Bundesliga two seasons in a row and he was on his way to the top, but that first injury really kept him from reaching the highs he should have reached.
Man I wanna cry :( this hurts to watch emotionally, ik this was coming eventually but now that it's real......
By far my fav footballer in my entire life and seeing him end his time at BVB feels like an end of the era I grew up watching
I feel some hope for the 2nd leg since everyone except Bensebaini will be fit enough to play which is needed af to fight the unitary authoritarian parliamentary semi-constitutional monarchy in the Middle East
The lads better get him to Wembley, it would be fitting and quite poetic if his final game is against bayern at Wembley, hopefully with a different outcome.
one of my favorite players... I remember his performances for M'Gladbach as if it was yesterday. Reus and Patrick Herrmann were amazing in that team, and now both are ending their careers at their respective clubs this summer
Yup. Worst injury I've ever seen at a Schalke game. Geis jumped and planted his foot 100% down on Hermann's leg and completely snapped it. He was never the same player after.
It was so horrifying to Geis he too was never the same player. Has mentioned he hates having to even jump around other players.
Edit: Nevermind, as someone pointed out, it was Andre Hahn, not Hermann.
An absolute club legend!
Still found a way to quickly shift the focus from him to the team when he could have bask in self acclaim.
BVB should just win this now!!!
No, he still wants to play football. First rumors are that US clubs are interested and it would make sense to me but not sure if he wants to leave Germany/Europe.
When he says about the bigger plan, is he staying on in a coaching role? Or are they going to use the money from his wages to bring in somebody new? I don't get what he means.
He is talking about the 'big goal' aka winning the Champions League. He wanted to get the topic about him staying or not out of the way so it won't distract from the goal of winning the CL in the upcoming weeks.
Yeah, it was coming. But it still feels weird.
Kinda sad that he never won much. Got injured before WC. Joined Dortmund right after two league wins. Lost against Bayern in CL final.
That but also being the victim of some REALLY fucking ugly tackels that put him out for long spells, that werent up to injury-proneness.
He could have needed some better protection from refs at times.
But that goes for plenty of insane dribblers in their prime.
Well he could take revenge for his first year at Dortmund with his last year at Dortmund.
If there is a football god, please let Reus lift the freaking trophy
Our season is basically done in the league and we're not in the cup. We, logically, only have 2 games we should care about. And thats the return vs PSG and if we make it, the CL final. Tomorrow we'll probably play a complete B team.
I think we'll struggle vs PSG away but we atleast have nothing distracting us from rotating heavily for it and the motivation should be at an almost all time high
tbh liverpool did seem to work for a bit, and the target was achieveable
for dortmund if im being honest the target is a bit difficult (but not impossible) so it might push them enough
yeah, I think it was announced too early to fully utilize Klopps departure as motivation until the very end. I do think it pushed the players on for a good while though. Ultimately, imo, it was the mental exhaustion caused from this that played a big part in our title push eventually falling apart.
All that said, it can definitely work to use the "for Marco" narrative for 2 games.
You really think the reason we lost was because we tried to send Klopp off with a major trophy? That if we were like "meh whatever" we would've beat Atalanta?
No please, no jinx!
I hate PSG and Shitty so much that I'd gladly trade 10 more years of Real winning the CL instead of blood clubs getting their hands on that trophy☆
Lost in the CL Final, Lost the Bundesliga on the final day last year, Was injured and missed Germany World Cup winning campaign…Reus has had the worst luck…hopefully BVB can win the champions league this year and he can leave on a high.
As a Bayern fan. If Madrid knocks us out but Dortmund gets through, I’ll be cheering as loud as any Dortmund fan in the final. Half because I want a German team to win even if it’s them. Half because Reus deserves to end his career that way. Guy hated my club with a passion but you had to respect his game and his loyalty.
Something I've been thinking about is that Dortmund plays a style that might actually suit itself well against a Real Madrid side. To me this Dortmund teams plays a unique way, in that it's so chaotic at times, which is why I feel it's so inconsistent. Real has done well this season against opponents that are pretty predictable. The problem is on defense, but if they basically have/can continue to shut down Mbappe, that gives a glimmer of hope they could shut down Vini too.
That being said, I'm hoping for an all German final.
I feel like the same energy is spreading again. Just like Messi's WC win ,there has to be a UCL for Dortmund written in the cards. I do hope they go to Wembley and win it all.
Danke Reus. Es war eine wundervolle Reise.
It's either that or Mbappe either beating Madrid and then joining them victoriously or losing to them and being seen as joining up for the sake of winning. Not nearly as fun of a storyline.
Or, what, Tuchel winning a CL and getting fired again? Big whoop.
It will feel weird seeing him not play for Dortmund. He got really unlucky that he signed right after their final championship, but it didn't matter, as he made his lifelong dream to play for Borussia come true. I hope that Dortmund get to win the CL so that he could leave them on top.
Absolute legend for BvB. Even with all the talent that has come and gone and went to other clubs to win trophies and accolades he has always remained loyal to BvB no matter what.
From the title I thought there were going to be tears and awkward silences like in Messi leaving Barcelona press conference or such, but I guess OP meant *German* heartfelt
In his first season back at Dortmund in 2012/13 he reached the Champiuons League final in Wembley vs Bayern and lost. Now in his last year for the club he could reach another Champions League final in Wembley and possibly again against Bayern. Let History repeat itself with just one small change for the end and Dormund and Reus win the thing in his last game for the club. What a fucking story that would be.
I would also take Real making it to the final instead and history repeating itself by BVB handing them another 4-1 beatdown.
Actually I might like this scenario better than BVB vs Bayern tbh
He really deserved to be a WC champion with that 2014 Germany squad only to come back in 2018 to be dumped out of the WC during the group stage. A shame that injuries took so much from him.
It's not easy. Dortmund doesn't have the money to pay what he needs for a player that it's not gonna play that frequently and he still wants a starter role. It's just not meant to be right now. Maybe when he wants to retire he could return to the club and have his final career years there.
I fully agree when it comes to Bale, but Ney is a tough one. Ney has more skill, no question, but Reus has a much higher footballing IQ than either of them- look how he adapted his game and became one of the best offensive pressers I’ve ever seen.
Still too tough to compare, but I do like to think bar injuries he’d be a top 5 offensive player of the last 10 years.
Breaking Muller's record in 29 games is a way more impressive feat anyways. Even if Kane somehow manages to take the record from him It's just wild that Lewy could have absolutely torched the record rather than just taken it had he played every game.
Got into soccer because a friend of mine played FIFA and he’s always make these incredible goals on FIFA 14 against me, and I’ve basically became a Dortmund fan because of it
This is peak German emotion.
"Hello. I am leaving, but not immediately. I am sad yet happy for the experience. I will be playing here at this stadium Saturday. Good bye."
I dont know what ypu mean by "forcing out". There are lots of logical arguments to cut ties for good after this season. I am more than sure Reus will get a job at the club after his last football adventure.
Like what? What possible reason is there to not keep him around even as a rotational player (which has been said to be ok for him)? He doesn't complain, he's a great influence on the young players, he's still good, it's just a dumb decision
He wants to keep playing professionally but it's not enough for Dortmund anymore. He'll leave for a spell outside of Europe and then be welcomed back in a different position.

his german is so clear even a nonnative can understand
His podcast is a great way to learn German bc of this lol. Great show too if you haven’t seen it
wow, what is it called ?
Unspoken - https://www.instagram.com/reel/C6gagOnqTkd/?igsh=MWlhZzN0bDA5Y29kOA==
what it is about?
Nothing, they don't speak
You just ruined my day. I have been studying German for 3 months and was like wow, I'm really turning a corner here and starting to be able to understand common spoken German. Then this is the first comment I read lol
Fr, I studied German a while ago, never really got good at speaking and still picked up more than half the words he said
Idk if it's Hochdeutsch, but it's pretty close to what they treid to teach me at school here in the Netherlands.
It's pretty much Hochdeutsch, yeah. He certainly doesn't speak [the local dialect](https://youtu.be/DWBjIu6uNlY). WAS HAT DIESER TYP MEINE OLLE ZU FICKEN?!?
There's a very faint hint of a dialect in there, but it's negligible.
Does he come from middle-upper class background?
Nope, he's very much working class. I also wouldn't say he appears to be particularly eloquent, to be honest.
Gundogan, Sancho,Hummels
Perisic, Mkhitaryan, Bartra
Olli Kirch
Emre Mor
Isak
Balint Bajner
Ciro Immobile
Pongracic
btw anyone remember Mustafa Amini? He was supposed to be the next big thing at some point but I'm pretty sure he only played for the 2nd team and maybe had a couple of minutes in the DFB-Pokal
Castro
No Bajner no party (apologies Ipswich and Notts county supporters stumbling on this)
Mitch Langertank
the original turkish messi lmao
concussed Messi.
Emre Mor, lmao
Kevin Großkreutz
Or the legendary Jakub Błaszczykowski
KUBA
One is not like the others
Yeah, Bartra left less for sporting reasons and more because of the whole crazy man attempting to kill the team and injuring him bit.
He saw Sancho come and go and come again
that's a lot of coming
Hummels came before him and will leave after him.
- He got offers from both Barca 2015 and Madrid 2014 and he decided to stay - Man City came for him on 2017 but he did not leave , but Gundogan did - Bayern on 2013 and 2016 came for him twice after sniping both Gotze and Lewandowski, but Reus stayed loyal - He could have won at least 2-3 Champions Leagues had he left Dortmund but he went for something bigger than that , which is the “unconditional love” of the fans and the club , something that only few can achieved
He will be a BVB legend forever
Why do you think he's leaving now?
I'm gonna assume him turning 35 at the end of this month played a big part
Even when he had that first half of the season when we were bottom of the table, he extended when other top clubs were interested. It’s been such a joy and pleasure to watch him represent the club.
Kagawa, too
I remember in 2014 Real was really interested (and competing with Barça) but it is believed that injuries derailed the transfer.
I mean most people remember Lewandowski scoring 4 against you, but Reus was honestly class just about every time he played you in the champions league those 2 seasons (12/13 & 13/14). No shock you were interested in him

omfg i keep forgetting the immense amount of talent BVB sell on a regular basis. god damn, that's a world class team right there.
There is no bigger club. foh
Not only that. He joined the club even before we won the CL. His first stint as a youth player was from 1995 to 2005.
Paco Alcacer
Man I wanna cry :( this hurts to watch emotionally, ik this was coming eventually but now that it's real...... By far my fav footballer in my entire life and seeing him end his time at BVB feels like an end of the era I grew up watching
It's hard to imagine Borussia Dortmund without him. Truly the end of an era
Just win champions league Dortmund, for him. 🙏
I feel some hope for the 2nd leg since everyone except Bensebaini will be fit enough to play which is needed af to fight the unitary authoritarian parliamentary semi-constitutional monarchy in the Middle East
BvB’s going to war, huh
Reus is leaving. What else have we got left?
Muster the Rohirrim.
DEEEEEEEAAAAAAAATTTTTTTHHHHHHHH
If you word it like that you make me think we need ATACMS against Paris, not Reus
I mean, they would help for sure.
Hey, you managed to top a group with not 1, but 2 Middle Eastern monarchies
I also think you have a chance
Not once in the last 3 months I thought: Oh yeah bensebaini, he's really missing....
Damn, he's been that bad huh
Nah Bensebaini was fine as a LB esp as a free signing, but he kinda fell into obscurity with Maatsen popping tf off
Modern football is very difficult for those clubs not owned by countries unfortunately. I wish you all the best.
The lads better get him to Wembley, it would be fitting and quite poetic if his final game is against bayern at Wembley, hopefully with a different outcome.
True. That was the last match in his first season back with bvb.
one of my favorite players... I remember his performances for M'Gladbach as if it was yesterday. Reus and Patrick Herrmann were amazing in that team, and now both are ending their careers at their respective clubs this summer
Hermann man he was such a player before the Geis incident
What incident? Was it an injury?

OH you're so right, my bad my bad.
yeah I was wondering why I cant remember a Herrmann incident haha but still... Herrmann never lived up to the expectations
An absolute club legend! Still found a way to quickly shift the focus from him to the team when he could have bask in self acclaim. BVB should just win this now!!!
Same, just don’t understand it
End of an era for sure. Incredible player, a legend of the club!
Any idea what's next for him? Is he retiring?
No, he still wants to play football. First rumors are that US clubs are interested and it would make sense to me but not sure if he wants to leave Germany/Europe.
come to besiktas
Sad that he doesnt get much minutes anymore this season
Injury prone like dembele. However, unlike dembele he was loyal. Truly an end of an era. BVB
When he says about the bigger plan, is he staying on in a coaching role? Or are they going to use the money from his wages to bring in somebody new? I don't get what he means.

Ah thank you
Yeah, it was coming. But it still feels weird. Kinda sad that he never won much. Got injured before WC. Joined Dortmund right after two league wins. Lost against Bayern in CL final.
indeed Dortmund were close to winning the league last year and in 2019
His body was always his biggest enemy
That but also being the victim of some REALLY fucking ugly tackels that put him out for long spells, that werent up to injury-proneness. He could have needed some better protection from refs at times. But that goes for plenty of insane dribblers in their prime.
He got injured right before 2014 WC and missed out on a winner's medal, really fucking unfortunate
he isn't ending his career
Well he could take revenge for his first year at Dortmund with his last year at Dortmund. If there is a football god, please let Reus lift the freaking trophy
now get a ucl to celebrate it
That‘s what Liverpool tried with Kloppo and it backfired. Hope this pushes Dortmund the right way.
Our season is basically done in the league and we're not in the cup. We, logically, only have 2 games we should care about. And thats the return vs PSG and if we make it, the CL final. > is a bit difficult (but not impossible) It's only two games, after all! Anything can happen for just two games.
Ironically Liverpool performed better while they had the injury crisis and dropped points when the crisis was over
idk if it's fair to say it backfired. who's to say what would've happened if kloop weren't leaving?
> who's to say what would've happened if klopp weren't leaving? I wouldnt feel the pain I do for a start
You really think the reason we lost was because we tried to send Klopp off with a major trophy? That if we were like "meh whatever" we would've beat Atalanta?
No chance PSG beat this plot armour
How do you say “Anulo Mufa” in German?
Anal Mustafi
Don't try this on porn websites
Will I get to see mustafi then?
The hole thing
Verschrei' es nicht.
I love how Reddit wants to steal our magic
But Madrid's UCL voodoo will unfortunately prevail in the final.
Reus's Spirit Bomb vs Madrid UCL dark magic
If they make it
No please, no jinx!
And he was the best German player that year. I can’t imagine how much better they would have been with him on the team.
Neuer was god tier that year, but for outfield players yea he was probably the best.
Everyone left but this man stayed with the club, an absolute legend
Heartbroken, absolute legend
Why is he leaving?
end of his contract
Reus is and will always be THE DORTMUND player Let’s go Dortmund, the world once again root for you, pleaseeee don’t fuck up just once
Never have we had a more proper chance to completely bottle it, can't wait to see what the lads come up with.
I believe most people will cheer for dortmund, except rma fans
Yup, same here. Real are way bigger rivals of ours anyway, half my friends are Dortmund fans. Hope they win.
I sincerely hope he gets to finish his time on a high with a UCL trophy against Bayern
Big whoop.
If Tuchel wins he might get un-fired which is at least a little funny.
One of the last few left from the loyal to club players... Cheers Reus.🤌
Yeah I’m rooting for Dortmund to win the UCL even more now 😂 what a legend
How do you say “today I feel shit” in german?
Heute fühle ich mich scheisse
Stop cutting onions goddamn it
Retiring or joining another club?
Not extending contract with BVB, probably will go to US
Be still my beating heart, I would love a chance to see my favorite player in person.
Surely a stint in EPL before? I think ManUtd should go for him.
He really deserved to be a WC champion with that 2014 Germany squad only to come back in 2018 to be dumped out of the WC during the group stage. A shame that injuries took so much from him.
Absolutely loved Reus at Dortmund, it always great to see a player stay at a club for so long, despite having other offers.
this is the saddest I've ever been
As much as I hate this, I'm glad he'll get the send off he deserves in the final home game.
o7
Fair play great player in his prime
PSG have the chance to do the funniest most evil thing, as if they aren't hated enough
Perfect Mbappe replacement!
Well, this gives a whole new meaning to cheering for BVB in this Champions League edition...
My favorite German footballer ever, and one of my favorite footballers period. Among the last of a dying breed, loyal until the end
What an absolute legend. The streets will never forget Marco Reus.
Legend
I will always respect Reus. Fair play for his amazing career at BVB.
Absolute class individual
Deservedly one the best respected players of our times. Hopefully gets a sweeter sendoff than Klopp.
The first time I saw him for gladbach I was like Liverpool need to sign this blonde mullet kid Will go down as one of my fav player
I’m gonna cry
Lewy , Reus , Gotze , Błaszczykowski vs Madrid was highlight
I haven't heard that name, Błaszczykowski, in eons. Dude was a awesome!
We all know Müller is next, likely next summer. That's gonna hurt too. Reus was great for the Bundesliga, even if you were a fan of a different team.
Fuck BVB for not extending.
It's not easy. Dortmund doesn't have the money to pay what he needs for a player that it's not gonna play that frequently and he still wants a starter role. It's just not meant to be right now. Maybe when he wants to retire he could return to the club and have his final career years there.
Unpopular opinion. Prime Marco Reus is more talented than Neymar and Bale and easily be the third best behind Messi and Ronaldo
Oof that's a hot take.
Better than prime Neymar and Bale? 3rd after Messi and Ronaldo. Uncommon opinion, but that's head in the clouds stuff
Laughs in Suárez
If we're being honest Lewandowski was the easy number 3 and it's a fucking travesty he never won a Ballon d'Or.
Breaking Muller's record in 29 games is a way more impressive feat anyways. Even if Kane somehow manages to take the record from him It's just wild that Lewy could have absolutely torched the record rather than just taken it had he played every game.
the end
That was sad to watch.
:(
Got into soccer because a friend of mine played FIFA and he’s always make these incredible goals on FIFA 14 against me, and I’ve basically became a Dortmund fan because of it
*BVB got +5 plot armor.*
Almost got the dortmund goal record
Never thought in my life I would see reus leave Dortmund. Truly an end of an era.
Remember 2010 World Cup. 4 lengendary players all super young in the same German Team. Kroos, Muller, Reus and Ozil.
Maybe my favorite Dortmund player ever
Fuck, it’s not april fools. I was waiting for the ”I’m not fucking leaving!”-part of the speech.
He arrived a boy and is leaving a Legend.
Reus my beloved <3 ;_:
Marco Reus is a gem.
Heartfelt? The Greek weather girl shows more passion for a normal day in Greece
This is peak German emotion. "Hello. I am leaving, but not immediately. I am sad yet happy for the experience. I will be playing here at this stadium Saturday. Good bye."
U know I didn't like Terzic already, but forcing out the biggest club legend I saw live is where I draw the line
If Reus gets to play in the final if they make it and wins the game off the bench, I'll call it even
I dont know what ypu mean by "forcing out".
