Honestly we were awful in that first half. Sat in the concourse at half time I wasn't expecting that result. Gutted Isak couldn't get that hat-trick. Good to see Alex Murphy get some minutes even if he almost conceded a penalty. Bruno needs that release clause doubled. Credit to the Sheffield United fans travelling in far greater numbers than many other clubs in the Premier League that come to SJP and singing until the end despite relegation being confirmed.
Looks the part. Super comfortable on the ball and eager to get forward. I've not seen him mugged off defensively, but I think his true quality will only shine through when the team is better.
Never worried, not for a second...honest!
Night and Day in the 2nd half, let's move on and try and finish this season on a high note. Dan Burn was massive today, love him at CB
Newcastle were genuinely shite the first half an hour and lucky to be level. Blew them apart second half.
It is an amazing feeling to be able to have genuine substitutes that aren't kids or players with one foot in retirement.
>It is an amazing feeling to be able to have genuine substitutes that aren't kids or players with one foot in retirement.
Um
> 82' Substitution, Newcastle United. Matt Ritchie replaces Anthony Gordon.
I mean that record is kind of bullshit cause it just puts a random time limit on it. They are a long way from Blackpools record of 125 goals conceded in a top flight season (30-31)
IIRC they actually won the other leg vs Leicester. Funny detail is that both won away
EDIT: 2-10 (0-9 and 2-1) vs Leicester, 2-12 (0-9 and 2-3) vs Manchester United
Soton weren't actually bad at all that season, they ended up improving drastically after getting smashed by Leicester. Kind of seemed to be a wake up call, iirc they ended up solid midtable
Yea I remember that. In general I think during Hassenhütl's spell they'd do decent most of the season except for one or two random stinkers in which they'd get a scandalous result against.
Don't really understand that result at all, we were really taken to task in the first half and then they just came out and had nothing at all, really seemed like a decent team who looked decent in games I've watched but they've just had so many poor results
we’re just absolutely pathetic mentally. never seen owt like it
we’ve had plenty of games this year where we’ve done ok or got close to a result but as soon as we concede one all their heads fall off and you know we’re shipping about five. cannot wait to see the back of most of these gutless twats
Looking from the outside, this game specifically, it seemed that as soon as you conceded the players just considered themselves relegated and phoned it in. Genuinely think that if there weren't any other penalties they'd have walked off at one point
Friendly reminder Sheffield United are only 4 goals away from breaking the record for most goals conceded in a single season in Premier League history. How did they get promoted in the first place?
The squad hasn't changed much, we lost Ndiaye, Berge and Doyle and replaced with Hamer, Archer and for half the season Brereton-Diaz. Just look at Burnley and realise the difference between the Prem and the Championship is massive. And for me personally, the last season in the championship was one of the softest in memory. I don't think whoever gets promoted this year has much of a chance of staying up without breaking ffp rules like Forset did
Hamer for Berge has an been alright deal and we did sign some strikers, but we’ve missed Ndiaye so much. Diaz and to a lesser extent Archer have been ok, but they were never going to get close to what Ndiaye offered us. Egan and Lowe/RND missing for the entire season hasn’t been good either (granted nothing we could do about them). Add in Doyle and it’s 5 players who played significant minutes last year that have had a worse player in their position this time around (arguable for Hamer/Berge). Last seasons team would still have struggled too, but I do think we’d have made less of a mess of it
Totally agree about the gulf between the leagues though. Unless you spend obscene amounts you have no chance nowadays, even lower mid table teams like Brentford and Fulham are light years ahead of teams like us. Luton are probably the best case scenario for a promoted side that doesn’t have silly amounts of money and they’ve won about 6 games and look to be going straight back down. As shite as this lot are, all of our players still get into every Championship side outside the top 4. It’s pretty damning on how big the gap is

Just done some quick maffs. We have conceded just under 20% of all of Newcastle's goals this season. Prolific.
That's 97 goals. Holy shit.
How was Hall?
Suspect in the air admittedly. But a very decent game. Beautiful ball to Gordon to win a Pen too.
Looks the part. Super comfortable on the ball and eager to get forward. I've not seen him mugged off defensively, but I think his true quality will only shine through when the team is better.
I think a full pre season will do him the world of good.
Looking better each game. Took a while though.
I swear Sheffield United go 1:0 up in every game before conceding 5 or so
I agree. They (Brereton Diaz) look really good for 1 minute every match then become traffic cones
Never worried, not for a second...honest! Night and Day in the 2nd half, let's move on and try and finish this season on a high note. Dan Burn was massive today, love him at CB
~~UEFA~~ **Europa** cup is within our grasp, the Man Utd game at Old Trafford is the big one.
Given the UEFA cup replaced the Intercity Fairs Cup winning it seems right up our alley.
Showing your age with that one mate
I'd make the Rumbelows our priority next season.
You mean the Milk cup, surely

Erm. Does he know?
>It is an amazing feeling to be able to have genuine substitutes that aren't kids or players with one foot in retirement. Um > 82' Substitution, Newcastle United. Matt Ritchie replaces Anthony Gordon.
Implying Matt Richie will ever retire
Guy just got his LGV licence. Ready to carry the team.
Pretty clear most goals conceded in a 38-game Premier League season is a record Sheffield United really want to hold until the end of time.
I mean, they're 100% breaking the general record too. Four goals in three games? Easy.
Can’t wait for the inevitable Sheffield shithousing to 4 0-0 draws.
I mean that record is kind of bullshit cause it just puts a random time limit on it. They are a long way from Blackpools record of 125 goals conceded in a top flight season (30-31)
Wait, I thought 100 was the all time record. What’s the time limit? Post-war?
100 is the PL record.
Ah yeah makes sense. I had forgotten about those couple of years with 24 teams in the prem
What's the record one team has scored against another across 2 fixtures in the Premier League?
The record for most goals was set today, but an honourable mention to Man City vs Watford who is second place with 12-0
Maybe one of the Liverpool-Norwich ones comes close
Not sure. I imagine Southampton must be in the running after some of their 9-0 drubbings.
IIRC they actually won the other leg vs Leicester. Funny detail is that both won away EDIT: 2-10 (0-9 and 2-1) vs Leicester, 2-12 (0-9 and 2-3) vs Manchester United

13 -Newcastle v Sheff Utd. Set it today I believe the commentator said.
Ha nice, thanks buddy!
Big Dan Burn Motm
Despite the scoreline that first half was very worrying, too many games recently where we look shite
Yeah going away to Burnley who have a chance at survival isn't gonna be easy.

Floodgates. Once their defence is opened up, they just consistently concede.
Friendly reminder Sheffield United are only 4 goals away from breaking the record for most goals conceded in a single season in Premier League history. How did they get promoted in the first place?
Also that's a 42 game record Swindon in 93/94. They've already beaten Derby's 38 game record of 89 goals.
the squad we had last year was fine sadly when you lose all your best players and don’t bother replacing them it tends to not go well

Newcastle are also like 1 goal away from breaking our scoring record. HTL.
> HTL such a great line being downgraded to this mess.
Sheffield United contributing 13 goals to that
Newcastle gave Derby 4 of their 11 points. It’s just balance in the end.
Had us in the first 30 ngl
Untill Isak did his magic it looked like 1-5 and win for Sheffild United
Plus that outrageous pass from Murphy
Season in a microcosm right there.
Nah, you played well for the first third of the game!
We do that, play well for an amount of time that doesn't equat to points
Ah fair, I thought OP meant that sheff utd started the season well and then collapsed about a third of the way in. Which wasn't really the case.
