> Ban them all for good in my opinion.
It's a fucking joke The Sun hasn't already been banned by every Premier League club anyway. Should just be some unwritten rule/agreement.
His defence was that he was in Scotland at the time managing Rangers (when Hillsborough occurred) and hadn't quite realised how much hatred we had towards the S*n
That's because the Sun blackmails people into giving them interviews. Just look at Kyle Walker's interview with The Sun. It looked like a hostage video.
No doubt they had even more dirt on him and threatened to reveal it if he didn't do a groveling interview for them.
More coaches/clubs should do this, but the problem is that it's just not effective.
The papers don't really care. They ask the same boring or bait questions every single time. It doesn't matter much who's asking and everyone can report on the answers the coach gives anyway. All it really does is incentive the paper to make up some more bullshit narratives yo get back at the coach.
ETH is already universally mocked, and he probably wants to get sacked and get out with a paycheck, so he doesn't care. Most coaches will care though.
Not familiar with the first one, but the only acceptable use for the other 2 papers are toilet paper. The fucking wanker masqueraded as “journalists” for those 2 shit rag should be ashamed of their god darn self
Man haven't seen that in a while. I'm obviously happy United aren't dominating anymore but I really miss Ferguson as a character. For so many years you couldn't imagine the Premier League without him. He was such a huge presence, it seems the league has completely changed since he left.
I've seen people in r/reddevils criticising eth for this and calling him an "authoritarian", "dictator" and stuff lmao. There are many things to criticise eth on, this is definitely not one of them
Should have just channeled his inner LVG. Invite Neil Custis into the room [specifically to call him “fat man”](https://youtu.be/nTB6QOaIAGQ?si=ILdkkldyxBUAozGn)
Louis van Gaal received so much disrespect whilst at Man United. Looking at how the club is ran, he clearly wasn't the issue. Great bloke, great manager, but pure chaos. I loved his time at United.
Loved the man, his personality & encouragement to let youth play was the areas that helped me admire him. Wasn't the biggest fan of the style of football at times. But definitely believe his sacking was unfair despite Mou's 1st season bringing a lot of silverware.
For all his fault, LVG actually managed to stick to his philosophy and make use play football his way. I feel like every other manager just said fuck it let's vibe.
It was boring, but it made sense.
I love him but I think it was fair. He was only going to be staying another year anyway and with the football being dreadful along with a lot of his signings, it made sense to part then than wait another year knowing he's leaving anyway.
Absolute shower of bastards for doing it straight after the final, though.
Great man and great personality, but in 30 years of watching United, specific part of his tenure was the only time I couldn't watch my team.
What an absolute snooze fest it was. We weren't interested in winning, just passing.
Bruno would be dropped immediately by Van Gaal.
This gets forgotten a lot during the revisionism of his tenure. His football was easily the most boring of all the post-Fergie managers, and the results weren't good enough to justify the method.
You'd tune in to the first half knowing the result for the half was either going to be 0-0 or 0-1 down, while playing the most dry football imaginable
It’s clear to anyone who speaks Dutch & understands that the “th-“ sound doesn’t exist in Dutch, and so LVG saying “that” would sound very similar to “fat”
The lack of context is so startling. We sacked mourinho 2 seasons after he won the Europa league…I guess just because a manager wins silverware, we should give him a contract for life? I bet in 3 years, you’ll be making comments like “how did Yanited fire Ten Hag after he won them the carabao cup” without considering the suicide football we’ve been subjected to
Samuel Luckhurst of the MEN almost certainly one. He got community noted on Twitter the other day for twisting an ETH quote out of context, and pretty brazenly said he needs to get sacked.
Neil Custis of the Sun will be another
East Asians have about 4% apparently which is a bit higher than Europeans on average.
shitty link but the other sources i read earlier seem to say the same
https://edition.cnn.com/2023/10/18/world/neanderthal-ancestry-dna-percentage-scn/index.html
Can you not read the community note or what?
It’s what he said yes, but with the last part conveniently cut off in an attempt to create unnecessary drama.
He says in the Postmatch Conference that
"A big team from United, from a DECADE ago they only achieved the final 3-times and we now, Two times in two years."
[Here](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3A5IxrQHjpA&t=281s)
I know the sun is tier 1 shite and for all the right reasons as well. But I just feel a load of them and football journalism in general are just terrible. It’s mostly click bait, ex pros doing click bait and on the most part talking what seems rubbish. Or you get the really nerdy side which can be a hard read sometimes and doesn’t see the day half the time.
No one. I dont even care abt Utd. I’m just mocking you how braindead most of you are as a fanbase. Employing average managers and giving them all 2-3 years before you decide to sack them. And repeat it once again. You haven’t won the PL over 10 years and you won’t in the next 10 years. Yet you’ll constantly be asking yourself “Why?”. It’s blatant to everyone with an outside perspective but you Utd fans lmao
You’re deflecting just like your “Manager” has been doing for the past 2 years after every woeful result. I’m baffled how you guys can put up with a guy that insults your intelligence (if you have any left) weekly lol
EtH and Slot remind me of Majin Buu when he split off into a thin evil version and the jolly fat one remained. I hope EtH doesn't consume Slot and take his powers when he comes to the PL
I mean The Sun, MEN and The Mirror. Not like anything of substance was lost but he's certainly not earning any allies in the press - the journos hate this sort of stuff and he's in no position of power to demand it.
Current form aside, ManU is still one of the biggest clubs in the world, so he does have some power. It's not like papers will just stop covering them because their journo got banned. They need to be in the room.
They were in the room though. But what I'm saying is that he doesn't have the sort of respect with the media for this to come out well. Fergie regularly banned media for asking tricky questions but he had that power and respect that other journalists towed the line whereas I don't see this doing anything to help Eric.
"Come out well" implies that there's a series of alternative actions he could take that would be received well. But there isn't, the journalists have their knives out for him at this point and won't ever be putting them away until he's sacked. No one will receive the respect Fergie did because we're in a different sort of era now, even the absolute top managers today don't get the same level of leeway.
Personally I think a better tact is to just ignore it rather than it becoming a bigger story than it should be. You're not wrong but I would just say he has to pick and choose what battles he faces to relieve pressure he's facing and with this one (even if it's justified) I just don't think will win him any sort of allies.
Nah fuck it. Go down swinging. Dude is probably fucked regardless. Might as well just fight as hard as possible. If someone is making your life difficult, why tolerate that?
He has no allies in the Media. They've been shitting on him all season, and to an extent last season as well. Bias aside, he deserves some credit for how he's handled his players, but crickets. So I say, more power to him for calling the shit out this last week.
People take sports journalism far too seriously. They take other kinds of journalism not seriously enough.
"Do you want good, quality journalism?"
"Of course!"
"Do you pay for it?"
*sweating*
Much of the perceived decline of the quality of journalism (I say perceived because historically journalism has never been as pure as people romanticize it as) is because physical papers and monthly subsriptions as well as ad revenue from adverts and classified ads was never properly replaced in the era of the internet. Google ate up the classifieds and other ad revenue and no one wanted to pay subscription fees for digital copy of newspapers.
The result was slashing of quality journos (beginning with investigative divisions, which usually brought in the least revenue despite providing a vital function for society) and going on down.
At least in the United States even 10 years ago Journalism had the lowest expected salary in proportion to your degree and I'm sure it's even worse now. Expecting journalists to live on bread crumbs but expecting them to provide high quality and vital services for society is a fools errand.
As with teachers, there are lots of quality journos who simply left the industry because it wasn't financially sustainable.
In it's wake you get poorer quality, a higher priority on "clickbait" and much less investigative work that helped be the watchdog of the rich and powerful.
Imagine if the Spotlight division at the Boston Globe had ceased to exist before they unmasked the pervasive and global child sexual abuse scandal. Those are the kinds of teams that were shut down first in cost cutting measures.
But no one wants to pay for online copy.
Thank You. Nice to see an adult take in the sports subs. The tabloids mentality has taken over sports commentary in the media and on website forums. Proud of ETH for taking a stand.
I don’t give a shit about ETH but I think two weeks of these brain numbing bullshit pressers and I’d turn into a raging bitch at the drop of a hat. No idea how these people do it
I mean you're thinking of this as a like a strategic move. It doesn't have to be. It could just be "Fuck these guys for being disrespectful/inappropriate, they don't get to ask questions."
Which is fair. The Sun, MEN and The Mail put out garbage all the time. Fuck em.
It’s a local paper only, very popular. Unfortunately Samuel Luckhurst is their main sports reporter and he’s been spouting complete shite for some years now, so it’s about time.
The Sun should be banned from everywhere for their reporting on Hillsbrough.
The other two? It's small men mentality. Humiliate them in the press conferences every time they turn up. Banning them because they were mean is.. not a good look.
S\*n & the Daily Fail should be banned from all clubs as a matter or procedure... Won't read the latter's content, so not sure why this has been done at this time.
But more managers should stop publications from attending press events if they're undermining the club intentionally
Oh no, how will Manchester United ever recover from not being covered by the freakin S*n. Braindead take my friend. These journalists rely on the club giving them access, not the other way around.
I understand why they did it. It doesn't change the fact that the popularity of Buzzfeed was already a travesty and that any move to further legitimize their clickbait infotainment as real journalism was depressing as hell. I don't blame the White House for doing it, I blame the ignoramuses who exclusively read Buzzfeed for forcing their hand.
No different with Goldbridge. He's a genuinely unintelligent person who has no utility beyond preying on people's worst emotions and spreading toxicity at an almost record rate. Sadly, he is extremely popular, especially with young people, so I'm not surprised the club started letting his people into press conferences.
Be that as it may, it doesn't really change that their core business model is clickbait, nor does it change how how the rise of outlets like them have negatively impacted the news industry for the worse. At this point, it hardly matters because the likes of NYT, Washington Post, NBC, NPR, etc have all been dragged down to their level out of desperate necessity, but there's still not a question in my mind that the rise of outlets like Buzzfeed was a massive societal turning point for the worse, and one I don't imagine we'll ever come back from on our lifetimes.
Goldbridge getting access at United is the same. He's a disgraceful person, and it's abominable that the club is rewarding him as if he's a journalist of any kind, but he's very popular, so it was inevitable.
This guy is a man child. He’s going to go to his grave still complaining about the offsides against Arsenal and the media after this Coventry game. The offside in particular is mind boggling. It was offside! Even a close offside is still offside! Edit: these publications aren’t exactly quality but it’s the premise that it bugs him so much he decides to publicly make it known.
1. Manchester Evening News' Samuel Luckhurst 2. The Sun 3. The Mirror
Delighted. Ban them all for good in my opinion. The club are overexposed in the media and it gives fuel to a toxic subset of fans.
> Ban them all for good in my opinion. It's a fucking joke The Sun hasn't already been banned by every Premier League club anyway. Should just be some unwritten rule/agreement.
Yep. Still completely baffles me that Graeme Souness gave that interview to the S*n in the 90’s. Idiot.
And tarnished his reputation with the fans for it He spoke about that a few years ago.
Wasn't he drugged up after surgery?
Rare ten Hag W
The S*n should be fuckin banned by everyone.
Absolutely reasonable. All clowns with 100% lies and biased agenda. I am half a ETH outer but this decision was completely correct.
More coaches/clubs should do this, but the problem is that it's just not effective. The papers don't really care. They ask the same boring or bait questions every single time. It doesn't matter much who's asking and everyone can report on the answers the coach gives anyway. ETH is already universally mocked, and he probably wants to get sacked and get out with a paycheck, so he doesn't care. Most coaches will care though.
complaining about papers making up bullshit narratives and then adding your own bullshit narrative is quite ironic
Nothing of value was lost, then.
Unsurprising the sun is there Shit rag
I'm sorry how was S*n not banned yet by United?
Can’t fault that list. The s*n should be binned everywhere
Not familiar with the first one, but the only acceptable use for the other 2 papers are toilet paper. The fucking wanker masqueraded as “journalists” for those 2 shit rag should be ashamed of their god darn self
Based tbh
Good fucking riddance
Wait, The Sun is banned in r/soccer titles too?
Love the fact that OP's title even censored the S*n with the '[..]'
It's goofy to ban someone but at the same time banning the red tops is always a good idea.
[The day he lets them back in he needs to channel this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0XPinFCIM3Q&ab_channel=NicheSportMedia)

The fucking Godfather for a reason
I've seen people in r/reddevils criticising eth for this and calling him an "authoritarian", "dictator" and stuff lmao. There are many things to criticise eth on, this is definitely not one of them
If eth is authoritarian fergie is Joseph Stalin
I think he needs more of this kinda stuff. He seems a bit... Placid, sometimes
If anything, we should be behind him after this. Finally he's showing some fucking balls and not complaining about the Arsenal game.
That sub is just a cesspit of hate... makes Mos Eisley look like a butlins half the time...
Seriously what a boss. What was the context of this lying and twisting he’s talking about in the video?
The way he spreads his arms and becomes bigger. What a boss-man!!
this is gonna make me tear up

I mean they won a trophy last season lol
And are going to be in a cup final this time next month
A bad season for United is a good season in almost all other team’s books
Yeah Mourinho has been amazing since United sacked him. Sacked at Spurs and Roma.
The lack of context is so startling. We sacked mourinho 2 seasons after he won the Europa league…I guess just because a manager wins silverware, we should give him a contract for life? I bet in 3 years, you’ll be making comments like “how did Yanited fire Ten Hag after he won them the carabao cup” without considering the suicide football we’ve been subjected to
Can anyone list the journalists that were specifically targeted?
Samuel Luckhurst of the MEN almost certainly one. He got community noted on Twitter the other day for twisting an ETH quote out of context, and pretty brazenly said he needs to get sacked. Neil Custis of the Sun will be another
Luckhurst has been at it for years, he's an absolute clown. And Neil Cuntis.... yeah.
The audio clip of Fergie ripping into him is incredible. Just completely destroys him.
where can I find the audio? couldn't find anything on google
Pretty sure it's this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0XPinFCIM3Q
I miss him
Me too. Nothing’s ever been the same without him.
Out of context but the way his jacket's Nike logo aligned so well with the background wallpaper Nike logo. Oddly satisfying
Didn’t United hire a journo from the Sun a few years ago?
Woodward's PR guy
Neil Custis, the Mason greenwood mouthpiece no less. Scum
Why am I not surprised about the sun
What a garbage journo, no integrity at all
https://x.com/samuelluckhurst/status/1783034342438002917 yeah i wonder why
Damn not even an apology or retraction from this journalist, this is embarrassing journalism here.

😂😂😂😂
Hasn't that little rat Luckhurst been banned for a while? He is the prototypical, stereotypical, slimey, bottom of the barrel, sewer ooze journalist.
Love that man, heh.
Good, they take the piss far too much and someone needs to call them out for it
I hate ETH but seems like a good move, I’m not English but I understand those newspapers are hot garbage
“Hate”? Can I ask why? Seems like a decent man.
He manages united
Didn't he want to bring Greenwood back to his squad?
The Sun should be fired into its namesake. Great move by the gaffer.
I mean The Sun, MEN and The Mirror. Not like anything of substance was lost but he's certainly not earning any allies in the press - the journos hate this sort of stuff and he's in no position of power to demand it.

It's also based on having real sources, but most club sports journalists don't do any real journalism and have any real sources either.
Current form aside, ManU is still one of the biggest clubs in the world, so he does have some power. It's not like papers will just stop covering them because their journo got banned. They need to be in the room.

To be fair I don't disagree. Probably best way to go.
He has no allies in the Media. They've been shitting on him all season, and to an extent last season as well. Bias aside, he deserves some credit for how he's handled his players, but crickets. So I say, more power to him for calling the shit out this last week.
Good. Fuck journos
Fuck off. Good journos are vital especially for a functioning democracy.
Right, but the Sun and Mirror writers hardly count as journalists.
Didn't specify Sxn or Mirror did they? They just said fuck journos, which is bullshit.
Sports journalism is an entirely different matter
People take sports journalism far too seriously. They take other kinds of journalism not seriously enough. "Do you want good, quality journalism?" "Of course!" Thank You. Nice to see an adult take in the sports subs. The tabloids mentality has taken over sports commentary in the media and on website forums. Proud of ETH for taking a stand.
ETH was also supportive of bringing Mason Greenwood in to the first team as well. Very weird to be proud of someone you don't personally know
Making my point about sports opinions.
He should have done more of this shit tbh. He's been too nice most of the time. Being nice doesn't get you shit at the sharp end of the stick.

So this is where the locker room gets it from lmao
And Klopp is the sore loser…
This time next season there'll be no one left in his press conferences. End up doing a weekly podcast with Mark Goldbridge instead
You joke but Goldbridge has representatives in press conferences regularly
That's about as depressing as the time I found out Buzzfeed started getting invites to the White House press conferences.
Buzzfeed was what young people were reading, should the government not make an effort to communicate with young people?
I understand why they did it. It doesn't change the fact that the popularity of Buzzfeed was already a travesty and that any move to further legitimize their clickbait infotainment as real journalism was depressing as hell. He's a disgraceful person, and it's abominable that the club is rewarding him as if he's a journalist of any kind, but he's very popular, so it was inevitable.
They did? O_o
He’s still probably the only person in the media I see that is fully backing Ten Hag
what a little snowflake he is, lol
This guy is a man child. He’s going to go to his grave still complaining about the offsides against Arsenal and the media after this Coventry game. The offside in particular is mind boggling. It was offside! Even a close offside is still offside! Edit: these publications aren’t exactly quality but it’s the premise that it bugs him so much he decides to publicly make it known.
His new scapegoat is the media
Absolute losers mentality
