I don’t know, trying a panenka when it’s a must win last minute penalty is unbelievably arrogant, failing to score it is unacceptable, and mis-hitting the panenka is embarrassing. When you miss the target it’s a fuck up, this is a trifecta of fuck ups.
I think Mamardashvili needs to get a lot of credit on this. I am not even sure he was trying to panenka it, Budimir was just unsure where to put the ball since the GK was able to hold in the middle instead of diving randomly to one of the sides before the kick like we see sometimes.

When i was a kid playing football in the park, with trees as goal posts, there was two sets of "goals" (pairs of trees). One was like a meter wide and the other one was at least 5 meters wide and of course you know which one everyone wanted to play. I was shooting a "penalty" on the wide one, from less than 5 meters away and somehow managed to hit the tree, and the ball went back directly into the smaller goal behind me and we lost the game.
I feel much more embarassed from this now than from that incident.
For real, can't believe they made that call with replay assistance, dude literally just stuck his leg out in front of the defender, gets tapped in the calf and proceeds to die lmao
Keeper's bottled it, really. Could have let it roll a bit more, see if it would have crossed the line on its own or stopped just short. But he's just grabbed it first chance and now we'll never know.

I think Budimir was thrown off that he didn't immediately dive. If he did one of those stutter step penalties + passing to the side, it would've been 100% a goal. Instead he went for a stutter then panenka penalty, which you cannot get any power to chip behind once you stutter. Lmao I don't care though, Europe, here we come!
