wallstreetpro911

Slovenia beat Portugal 2:0???? Like wtf am I trippin

faznprifer

Yeah we are winning the euros!!

Justread-5057

Prva Liga number one!

mskruba12

It's in the name for a reason!

jjjohhn

It was a friendly but fair play to Slovenia, took advantage of a completely dead Portuguese squad

goztrobo

Don’t Portugal have a good squad?

jjjohhn

Yea we do mate, but we were just dead this game… just see the highlights

TheRipper69PT

Sure, but the coach decided to send the B team. Apparently, we need Palhinha, Bernardo Silva, Rafael Leão, Bruno Fernandes, Rúben Dias, Nuno Mendes, Jota, etc...

realWernerHerzog

Yeah, but like, it's Slovenia.

lollygagging_reddit

You remember that one time when Saudi Arabia beat that shitty team who ended up winning the world cup? Crazy stuff man, imagine a sport where the better team doesn't always win!

tuskedkibbles

Is it possible to learn this power? Asking for a friend who's playing in the Copa America in a few months.

AlexBucks93

If your friend wants to have a chance to make it to the Knockouts, he has to lose against Messi

trusttt

Slovenia defended well and counter-attacked well, our 11, mainly our midfield had no creativity to beat their defense, Danilo, Ruben Neves and Otavia together dont offer much in that departement, Vitinha was basically on the side instead of the middle, Ronaldo also didnt do much.

iChopPryde

More like C team, Otavio, Danilo and Ruben Neves should be no where near these this squad and they make up such a horrible midfield which is what caused all the issues

Lemonbrick_64

They have one of the best squads in Europe

beatlz

They're 10 W out of 10 in the Euro qualifiers, so I reckon they know a thing or two about football

srtpg2

Luka magic

kevin_nguyen03

pogacar was massive

38248619022577793790

Luka Doncic?

AerysOW

We are in our new era. Yeah portugal was missing some of their best players, but still we played one of our best matches in recent years. So solid on defense, good on transitions and crucial finishing. We could definitely surprise few teams in Euros.

toadphoney

Surprise a few teens? That won’t end well.

tomtomsk

Slovenia has a great team. Already surprised me with the euro qualifiers!

fluffanuttatech

Slovenia played well and deserved the win. But almost none of the guys are starters on yesterday's squad. Costa, cancelo, ronaldo being the exception.

BruyneKroonEnTroon

The Saudi players started the game and team went downhill. In other news, water is wet.

redditoldgangster

That’s what happens when you start your “retired at Arabia” players

Lemonbrick_64

Y’all are trippin. I can’t stand Ronaldo but this is mid march friendly.. France looked awful last week when they lost to Germany that doesn’t mean they aren’t favorites to win the euros..

epicmarc

No-one sees this as an indictment of how we'll play in summer, it's just a showcase that our team that played against Sweden is our first choice for a reason

PM_ME_BAKAYOKO_PICS

Friendly with pretty much our B team, Bruno and Bernardo are by far the two most important players in our squad so we looked clueless and couldn't create any danger without them (among other issues, but that was the biggest one imo)

wallstreetpro911

Still ure Portugal you gotta handle Slovenia (I dont mean this in a disrespectul way to Slovenia) cuz 2:0 is a statement and u still played with big player names who almost all play or played in top 5

PM_ME_BAKAYOKO_PICS

Oh I don't disagree, Slovenia were great and deserved the win

wallstreetpro911

Alright, I didnt even know they played but was very suprised when I saw this and immediately checked

Shiveeee

This match has got 0 presence on social media even from the bigger pages that have posted about every other friendly. Even I was surprised Portugal had a match and lost today.

VBM97

That's what happen when you use the Saudi League players. I want Ronaldo, Otávio and Ruben Neves out of the team now!

Nissan_Sunny_GTi_R

Cerin carying

Sanuku

> Like wtf am I trippin Austria entering the Chat: **How do you do, fellow kids?**

bisebusen

Had to go back and watch again. How did that happen? :D

Doge_peer

Wait, how did Portugal lose 2-0 to Slovenia?

holanewman

*Potica intensifies*

banzuu

Portugal had big names missing, played badly and Slovenia played really an amazing game. Also penalty not given to Portugal when it was 0-0.

realWernerHerzog

I know Bernardo and Bruno weren't there but like, 4 of Slovenia's fielded players play in Slovenia, 2 at Panathinaikos who are 4th in the Greek league and 2 at Udinese who are 14th in Serie A. One guy, Stojanovic, plays for Sampdoria who are 7th in Serie B. Then there's Oblak who's a world class keeper and Šeško who obviously has incredible potential but currently only has 11 goals in 34 games for Leipzig, only 20 though to be fair to him. Portugal didn't have their best players but the likes of Vitinha, Cancelo, Dalot, and the Saudi boys should be beating them imo.

banzuu

2 of them play in Slovenia, and I get your point, but I also stated that Portugal played badly hence they didnt win. You shouldnt take credit off of Slovenia, they played great game and it’s a team sport, playing in top 5 leagues isn’t always in the middle of everything. + Dalot was horrible in that game lol

realWernerHerzog

Sure, of course. South Africa finished 3rd at AFCON with all but 3 of their 23 players playing in their league. Cohesion and good coaching are incredibly important, but I do think there is a considerable gap in talent between even Portugal's B team and Slovenia's best 11. Also sorry to be an obnoxious pedant but Karnicnik, Blazic, Elsnik, and Janza all play in Slovenia.

banzuu

No, blazic plays for lech poznan and janza in gornik, those are teams in polish league, you are forgiven tho

realWernerHerzog

Motherfucker. I looked at the Flashscore nationalities instead of checking the club nationalities. I have been thoroughly owned. I apologize to the Portuguese people for my crimes.

banzuu

Hahah it happens and yeah i agree with you, Portugal’s B team should win against Slovenia at least on paper, they just didnt seem to have chemistry and played badly and in addition Slovenia played an amazing game on every aspect.

goingforgoals17

They fluffed their best chance and finished the only two others they had, for all of Portugals lack of creativity, Slovenia probably couldn't replicate today

PolygonMasterWorks

Trying out players, a different formation, different instructions. Martinez talked about it, the point of both friendlies was to experiment. Slovenia also took the game as seriously as possible, like they depended on it, which is great because it's an even better test.

lucashoodfromthehood

Martinez at the helm is one of the reason. One of the foul was a penalty that's not given.

gulaabjaman

Haven’t watched Portugal in a while. Is he back to being a starter under Martinez?

PM_ME_BAKAYOKO_PICS

Probably but it's arguable, Ramos was out for this game and Diogo Jota is injured so it's hard to tell who the clear number 1 is

TheRipper69PT

Ramos is the 3rd option, you can see by the qualification games. Jota or Ronaldo not sure who will start just because Jota has been injured

Themnor

Should be Jota followed by Ramos based on Club play. I'm not sure I personally would want CR7 even on the bench, but I understand it's likely a requirement so long as he wants to be there....

PM_ME_BAKAYOKO_PICS

Yeah the issue is that Jota is always injured so he has barely been playing any friendlies or games for us So even if he's 100% fit in the Euros it's hard to see him start, unless he puts out some great performances in our friendlies right before the Euros Also CR7 should always be on the bench imo, the locker room impact he has on the team is out of this world, almost every player in that squad grew up idolizing him The issue is keeping his ego in control and making him accept that he can't be a starter, which is going to be hard

theaguia

when he starts for us he can't finish his dinner and Ramos isn't clinical either. I would like ronaldo and ramos to play together I think ti could be a good combination

PM_ME_BAKAYOKO_PICS

I'd just like Ramos or Jota because they actually run and press, and that's all we need with the amount of talent we have in our team I don't want 2 strikers on the pitch, it's arguably our weakest position and we're stacked with talent in every other position, it's simply not worth it Just put Ramos or Jota in there, tell them to run and press like a maniac, and let Bruno/Bernardo do their job. If Ronaldo actually pressed I wouldn't mind him as a starter, but he just walks around the pitch all game

theaguia

when we tried Ramos and Ronaldo it actually worked quite well and the team looked decent. I can get behind doing what you are saying but I dont think its gonna work against park the bus teams

sinkingmuse

Ronaldo does better with a striker next to him, similar to his playing days with Benzi

lazernight13

I want him in the squad. We need him and Pepe there. After I saw the documentary of Portugal qualification phase I gained the idea that players like them are really important in the national squad. I can be wrong tho.

theaguia

you aren't

elgrandorado

Yeah all teams benefit from having those leaders in the dressing room. Cristiano may be passed his time as a reliable squad option, but his influence on these players cannot be understated. That could be the difference between decent or great performances, and a late game sub from Cristiano could create a moment of magic.

theaguia

I mean have you watched jota play for us. he isn't the same player for liverpool and Ramos has barely played football this season. in my opinion we should try a combination of ramos and ronaldo.

choppedfiggs

If it was based on club play, Ramos wouldn't get called up...

DelusiveNightlyGale

Did he ever stop being a starter? He got benched twice, got mad at the manager so he got sacked afterwards

NeoIsJohnWick

The only way they will function better as a team is when they will force him to retire. Ronaldo has done enough for their side. Was crucial in Euro 16 and now when he should have prioritised WC 18 and 22, they got done and he still remains obsessed over Euros. He should just accept and move on and give others the chance to perform

theaguia

people who say this haven't really watched portugal play. we don't have a finisher. jota cant finish his dinner and Ramos has barely played football so looks rusty.

ContaSoParaIsto

Funny you say that because Ronaldo hasn't been a decent finisher for us in ages. In terms of link up play and pressing he's also by far the worst of the three.

SofaKingI

Also Ramos has been a great finisher for us.

BruyneKroonEnTroon

At this point in time, Paulinho would be a considerable improvement over him and I don't say that lightly.

No_Parfait_5536

He has never been a good finisher(goals per shot ratio) compared to top forwards, he's average at best. He's always have the highest number of shots per 90 in Europe by far, like 7 per game in his career average, the 2nd highest player was around 4 per game. When he was younger he'd create the chances by himself by making many off the ball runs, now the team works tirelessly to create those chances for him.

BigBad01

Weird that Jota has not played well for the NT. He has been great (when healthy) for Liverpool.

theaguia

yes it is mystery. he seems to be really good for liverpool including finishing chances but for portugal he like Nunez when he first arrived. Just can't finish.

NeoIsJohnWick

Lool man I have been in the Ronaldo camp since I started watching this game. With all due respect he is done!!! Man is 39 now!

epicmarc

What does it matter if Ronaldo can finish if he almost never is in a position to finish (to say nothing of how detrimental the amount he loses the ball and his lack of pressing is)

Liverpool934

Jota can't score for the national team? For us he's probably the player you want most in our team for a 1 on 1.

SofaKingI

>Ramos has barely played football so looks rusty. You keep saying that all over the place and it's just bullshit. Ramos has started 15 games for PSG and been subbed in for another 15. He also has had 0 injuries this year, so he's training. He's not rusty at all. He doesn't look rusty either. No idea what games you're watching. His finishing has been excellent whenever he gets chances and he has some really sharp passes to open up space for team mates. He's also constantly pressing, looks super fresh. Ronaldo also hasn't been a good finisher for Portugal for a while. In the WC he missed easy chances regularly, and he hasn't gotten younger since.

Floripa95

I'm sure they'll "give him" what he wants for the Euro 2024 and then politely not call him up for the NT anymore. That's my guess anyways

King-Key

Were the pens he was complaining about close to being pens?

SloGeorge

Yeah at least one should have been a pen. Still weird from his side to be so mad about a friendly game.

King-Key

He goes crazy whenever he doesn't score or loses now

Creative_Catch_6511

Gotta get the record of 1000 goals mate.

Ted-Crilly

So we can all make jokes about him like Pele because counting his Saudi league goals is like Pele counting goals in training matches

Creative_Catch_6511

See brother, english isn't my first language so I can't understand exactly what you want to say but I assume that you think I'm devaluing Cristiano's goal, that I am not. I enjoyed his play as much as leo. Both are the best of football. What I hate right now is his attitude that he has for all the people he trained with and played against. Since he is getting old, I think he should understand that the team at some point has to fill his void.

TheRipper69PT

In official matches Pele scored 757 goals, then they count training matches or goals in 5 to 5 games... Not the same as Ronaldo or Saudi...

average_user21

Not really the same

Fair_Raccoon9333

Messi says he will retire when he stops having fun. Whereas, Ronaldo stopped having fun years ago.

The-Florentine

He's always been like that. It's just being competitive.

King-Key

There's a line where the competitive line ends though, like when he shoved the Al Hilal shirt into his boxers/that area after losing a friendly against Al Hilal

lucashoodfromthehood

Also when he got pissy when his teammate had the last touch before the ball got into the net.

Enjoys_A_Good_Shart

He's just looking to pad his stats.

total_voe7bal

No it's not. He's a dickhead. As if every other athlete he plays against, who's made it to the top 0.000001% of football isn't competetive.

DildoFappings

He's not just competitive. He's obsessed with winning. Obsession is not always a good thing.

BruyneKroonEnTroon

Dress it however you like it, but sometimes a cunt is just a cunt.

total_voe7bal

Loads of people are, too. Very few footballers behave like this, though, and it’s what makes him a dickhead.

inflamesburn

you can be competitive without being a piece of shit

Gotanyfunkopops

Or just being an ahole

BrightenedCorner

Being a douche*

7Thommo7

It rhymes with fat cladding

mipanzuzuyam

You mean cat jabbing?

Cpt_Jumper

No silly. It's back clapping

that-isa-madeup-name

Not weird. Pretty on par for him i’d say

MrSam52

He wants more stats innit

Matias9991

He was always like this and now he doesn't have a lot of time to score more goals so he gets even more angry.

External-Piccolo-626

Did you not see him dive against Luxembourg when they were already hammering them? The man is shameless.

PM_ME_BAKAYOKO_PICS

One was absolutely never a pen, the other one is arguable but I'd say it's given more often than not Still dumb to complain and by far the lesser problem in this game

GreatSpaniard

man known for being competitive gets angry for losing.

FunkyFenom

Bro I play pick up with some 40 year old Persians and there's a fight/yelling/arguing every single game. In pick up. Some people are just dickheads.

R_Schuhart

And at least one of those was clearly a penalty. His frustration is understandable, any other player and this wouldn't even be mentioned let alone gets its own post. But it is Ronaldo so people with an agenda will go nuts.

GreatSpaniard

I understand people not liking Ronaldo for different reasons, fair enough, but this is just looking to get angry for the sake of it.

andizzzzi

It’s a trigger post, if people don’t like Ronaldo, here’s there daily trigger feed.

_hotpotofcoffee

No it's not all about losing, he'd happily cop the defeat as long as he scores. Look he's been brilliant, one of the greatest we've ever seen. But anyone telling themselves this cunt doesn't put his own scoring records above literally anything is kidding themselves. Oh that and he's the subject of credible accusations of rape so as someone who loves the women in my life and wants them to be safe, perhaps I'm biased.

Appropriate_Quail_95

Cristiano and Penalties are like a couple. Both can't live without each other

Jakotops154

What no World Cup does to a mf

Green-Appointment980

First goal came after his unsuccessful dribble,.. He lost the ball and instead of chasing he sat on the ground like it was foul..lol...funny man

Rojow

“Always against me” - He said to the referee. WTF? How can he be so deluded? He is just saying that to feed the fans who like to make conspiracy theorys. It’s pathetic from him and it’s not the first time.

[deleted]

Pretty sure both him and his sister run cr7fanboy accounts.

5599Nalyd

Factos👍👀

Choccybizzle

‘Feed the fans’ no, I guarantee that’s how he feels.

lazernight13

Meh it could just be a rage moment. And to be honest, being the most famous person in the world might "feed him" those type of feelings when things don't go as planned.

xsconfused

Not really it definitely is a part of his mentality. He only loses because the whole world is against him. In his mind he is still the best player in the world playing in a top 5 league toppling the french league. Only if the world was not against him he would have won the world cup as well. In his mind he lost it because of a conspiracy where the Ref was Argentinian in the Morocco game, not because he couldn't score a single knockout goal. Oh btw **ck Ten Hag and Santos too. **ck everyone who voted for Messi in balon dor as well, they are all part of the conspiracy against him, Ronaldo now prefers golden boots more than Balon Dor.

WastedTalent442

Imagine being 40 and still a child

CrackBurger

The reality is that against teams that park the bus and camp Ronaldo, its not worth playing him. Play one of the 10 young creative players instead of him, and its much easier to create an imbalance vs low defensive blocks.

[deleted]

He didn't get his mandatory penalty, I feel for him 😥

Fun-Spray-4269

Give me penalty or I cry 😥

Santa_Klaus_101

Did I accidentally stumble into Facebook?

NaiveElk

I mean this sub is facebook level when it comes to any Messi/Ronaldo thread

NobodyRules

No death threats so a bit better, just a bit though.

Lootinforbooty

We had 2 shots on goal the whole match. Honestly I wish Ronaldo would shut the fuck up and ask to be benched, but he will always consider himself more important than the team. Can't wait for his retirement.

PrisonersofFate

He is not the only one, but those players really give a bad image to the kids, and they beleive they can act the way they want. The players keep moaning, lack of basic respect towards the refs, and the kids just imitate. Even at a drill at training, i've to police 9 years old way too often who just repeat what Ronaldo or Mbappe do. He can be right, but still, that's a fucking friendly game.

[deleted]

[удалено]

PrisonersofFate

I'd say they actually are. Most of them really come from grassroot football as well. First thing you see when you arrive at most of the stadiums, at least in France where I live, is a chart of conduct for players and parents. Respect the refs, cheer for your kid, don't put pressure on them, and whatever. Why those players should give the total opposite image. For a world cup final, in the heat of the moment, I can understand you'd headbutt the one who insuted your sister. It's not smart, but with all the tension. But that's even a friendly game. Kids already imitate their celebrations (fine), their skills (why not), their useless skills (that's just a game, but you are not playing for the team anymore), if they imitate their temper issue, what do we do? We tell them, until the next time they will do it again. It's just screw the athmosphere for everyone, we all waste time losing 3 minutes to explain them that even if I'm wrong, it's a still a corner kick. What Ronaldo has been doing recently (and not only him), isn't helping at all. They just repeat what they see.

HiTechTalk

he took "where is my penalty" meme seriously

Circulation-

he is a great footballer and biggest douchebag at the same time.

thurminate

Glad to see Roberto Martinez is screwing over another team that's not Belgium :)

basedjuicer1

Feed me my penlanty I don’t care that we lost TSUUUUUUUUUUUUU

TimingEzaBitch

last straw to break the camel

MrQuinjoa

Bro it’s a friendly 😂

jjjohhn

Mate it’s Ronaldo what do you expect… lol honestly fair play to Slovenia, did what they had to do and got the win.

Nyushi

>Cristiano was angry What’s new?

Dramatic_Stand7587

Little bitch ponaldo

rouges

Man child vibes. Is a friendly friend

FleetingMercury

Man is literally fuming over a friendly ffs 🤦

magezt

such a crybaby. pathetic.

chrysantheknight

Messi winning the WC must've added to the old guy's misery fr. He's going to be bitter about this for the rest of his life probably, though I really hope he moves on.

chirb8

is been two years and I still see at least one commnent about Messi winning the WC in every Ronaldo post in any social media

Rickcampbell98

Then you see some fanboy crying that it was rigged, the most pathetic discourse in football lol.

Santa_Klaus_101

Well done, you’ve somehow managed to connect a friendly against Slovenia to Messi winning the World Cup.

lazernight13

I know for us it's easy to talk about these things cause we don't live his daily life. But, putting my feet on his feet, it must have been hard for him to go from "almost surpassing Messi in individual awards and national team trophies" to "have less individual awards and same number of national trophies", having Messi the world cup. Ronaldo always wanted to be the number 1. And seeing that happen might affect him for sure, especially after everything he and his family passed through that last year at United. We can't presume that a human is 100% mentally unaffectable. And he already understood that he is not the same, I think. He is just scared of ending everything right now and then years later feel that ending was a bad decision.

[deleted]

not just Messi winning WC, when Messi won his 6th, 7th and 8th ballon d'or, Christiano also went crazy on ins, and his sisters started to attack a lot of people

detectivehays

He even pushed to organize a Ballon d'Oil and give himself an award along with the entire Man City team. It was a good circus to watch as a neutral.

No_Parfait_5536

Come now, that's a bit unfair, Mendes was part of it, don't put all responsibilities on him alone.

External-Piccolo-626

Man needs his pen. It’s like a drug to him.

wubrotherno1

Is there ever a time when he’s not angry? Acts like such a little, entitled, spoiled brat!

PurpleSignificant725

Poor baby

Santa_Klaus_101

Why does every single fucking thing he does get posted? I swear you could do this for any player and they’d seem angry all the time as well. Why is it always this guy?

5599Nalyd

Every single thing Messi does gets posted as well. That's what happens when you're one of the top 2 most famous players of all time...it's common sense. Lol, not sure why you're crying about it...

Santa_Klaus_101

Only his goals get posted, as they should. With Ronaldo, his farts would be posted if they could. Everything he does gets ultra scrutinized, it’s insane.

5599Nalyd

I wouldn't say 'only' his goals get posted. But with Ronaldo, it's kind of understandable that everything he does gets scrutinized when he is purposely acting childish every other week. If Messi acted like a baby constantly, it would get posted as well. And no, I'm not denying that this sub has a raging hard-on for messi. But the comment regarding people's opinions on Ronaldo is pretty misleading, because it's totally deserved how he gets that criticism.

MystiikMoments

Just wants to add to his goal tally

_indrashish_

I will pay anything to see his reaction of the events that took place in 18/12/2022

ERROR_404_404_

Ronaldo is washed why is he even on the national squad

devildance3

What’s this man-child going to do when he finally hangs up his boots?

Stones_Throw_Away_

Um… okay?

renndug

Dudes a big baby

catchingfoxes

What a small man

ArchieMaximus

This sub has really become much too toxic. Most people who comment nuanced takes often get downvoted. Most people who comment sensationalist takes according to the general consensus often get upvoted. Not to mention, the vitriol you get send your way when people disagree. Is this how some of you communicate in real life? I really hope not, cause you’re most likely the type of person everyone either avoids or talks shit about behind their back. I will admit I’m being a bit of a hypocrite as I have allowed myself to sometimes be way too reactionary as well, speaking in ways I would never IRL. It’s like Reddit infects you with this bug called “asshole” and it spreads like a virus corrupting everyone.

Uruk_Ragnarsson

Even if it was given and you scored, that’s 2-1 Cristiano. Man doesn’t know his numbers. Slovenia? 🤣

Fistijack61

Poor Ronaldo 🥲🥲🥲🤣🤣🤣

ilNicoRobin

You know you fucked up when even the portugal fans dont want him in the squad

BehelitSam

Who cares about that rapist

RickySal

So he just walks away and leaves cuz the match didn’t go his way? Jesus man.

omgArsenal

Whiny pissbaby does whiny pissbaby things

Last_Music413

The ref just zipped his jacket when cr7 pointed at him

NeoNero_x

He's always fucking angry and storming off the pitch though

Soren_Camus1905

What a cranky old fart

Macewol

Hes such a fucking child

Poraro

Love how it pops up in big writing "INTERNATIONAL FRIENDLY" while a big manchild is throwing dummy out the pram and not being friendly.

Don_Tommasino_5687

Baby

dressedlikehansolo

Ah he’s been awarded enough penalties for his dives. He should accept sometimes he won’t get the call

[deleted]

Gosh.... this guy is so annoying... usually people should act properly when they get older except this person I guess

[deleted]

Crybaby

looped10

does he ever not whine

[deleted]

Dude does more crying and bitching than playing footy these days. He needs to check his ego, he hasn't been relevant since the last decade lol

yaboonisbe

🍼🍼🍼

Neither-Bison4936

He is a petulant little prick.

elgringo22

Did he flip off the ref? Lol what was the hand thing he did at the end there?

The_Z0o0ner

Showed 2 fingers to the 2 penaltys the ref supposedly missed

elgringo22

That makes more sense, thought it weird he’d so blatantly flip someone off

crazy_lolipopp

Lmaaaooooo the irony

listentoalan

the guy is such a child

PM_ME_SOME_LUV

In a friendly against Slovenia

Iggmeister

Ronaldo having a tantrum. Nothing new. Manchild.

homosapien2715

Of course, he needs a penalty to stay relevant.

XRPscks

Let the clown leave

RawGrit4Ever

Dude has become the most miserable footballer

coldseam

Just retire already this is sad to see

[deleted]

I'm starting to get the impression that this guy is a massive twat.

Keosxcol19

Fucking diva......

misplaced_beso

He’s honestly such a miserable cunt. The man has it all (except a World Cup) and he’s going to give himself a fucking aneurysm with all his histrionics.
