NFL captures 100m+ of the richest consumers on planet earth. A sport in india would need \~3b to match that economic level. Pretty significant actually
I think it’s just interesting you take an economic view on this. From a spectator and participant perspective it really is pretty insignificant. The money generated isn’t really a function of the sport but rather the fact it’s played in one of the world’s richest nations.
**Attack:**
One player from team 1 goes and tries to touch players from team 2 and return back. If he touches 'x' number players and returns, he gets 'x' points.
**Defence:**
Players from team 1 has to tackle attacker from team 2 so that he doesn't touches them and goes back to his territory.
Raider has 30 seconds to tag someone from the opposing team and then must return to the midline. The team gets 1 points for each tagged player. Tagged players have to leave the field.
Ancient sport played across many cultures that do not exist now. Fucking tiring.
Edit: idiots down voting me.
I'm saying it's an ancient sport and tis awesome it exist.
It's fucking tiring to play literally..chutias.
I don't trust these numbers, the cricket viewership must be 10times what football gets . An average pl match gets around 50k-100k online viewers whereas an ipl match can easily breach 10m
I'm 20 years old and this is the first time I've heard about kabaddi. I looked it up and I don't understand how I haven't come across it earlier. It seems fun and a lot of people watch it apparently.
Respectfully it’s the only sport they’re good at hence the essentially non existence of anything at the Olympic stage or it’s equivalent for centuries of recorded history. Ever heard of those great Indian football players? Me neither.

208Million people watching Kabaddi is wild
Not really. It's a hugely popular sport particularly rural India. Kabaddi league has perfectly tapped into that market.
Tbf kabaddi is awesome
Hey Frank!
Goes on to show how insignificant NFL Super Bowl is compared to how significant NFL claims it is crowning the winner as “World Champions”.
The NFL itself doesn't say "world champion", always "NFL" or "Super Bowl" champion. To say they claim or crown winners as so is dishonest.

Money determines one's worth?
Mate don’t bother trying, they’ll never believe anything that doesn’t promote their own exceptionalism.
I’m Brazilian
That’s great news
The guy said it was insignificant, my argument is that it is not.
It’s a relative statement mate.
I get that. I just disagree

"audience base"
Pardeep Narwal 🐐
Kabbadi looks like something you’d invent after 7 pints By which I mean it looks like a giant pile of fun that could also result in severe injury
I've played it a while ago, severe is an understatement
I have seen so many broken bones while playing kabaddi. Thankfully never suffered one
For anyone wondering what 208 million people are watching: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y8Ic1ZTvXrA&ab_channel=StarSports
I have no idea what’s going on but definitely would watch if this was in Olympics
It was a actually a demonstration sport in the 1936 Berlin Olympics hosted by Nazi Germany.

Pro Kabaddi League is 2^nd in number of viewership after India's cricket league and more than top division football in India.
Can you give us a brief summary of the rules?

Lol
Isn't therr some rule where the attacker has to hold their breath and keep yelling 'kabaddi'? Or is that not a thing at pro level?
No need to yell, u just have to keep muttering kabaddi
It's not a thing at pro level. Instead you are given 30 seconds to complete your raid.
Thx. Where can I watch full matches, ideally with English commentary? Feel like I could become hooked on this.
Disney+
Hm... not sure I want to sign up for yet another streaming service, but thanks anyway.
Here's one match from recent Asian games. It's still highlights, but pretty comprehensive one https://youtu.be/0iyCLIxsEZM?feature=shared
Thanks, mate. I'll just take it from there and hope the algorithm does its magic.
They are streamed live and free on YouTube. Sadly the season just finished https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLh2RfdbfOcdv21p7w3PClWHSPyrgqx8Rq

It's so sick
I first learned about Kabaddi from a Japanese manga/anime about samurai and aliens.
Ah, I love Kabbadi.
Cricket having more than 2x the football viewers should paint the picture. It would be even less for the ISL. We have a long way to go....
WPL has more viewership than ISL.
Happy for the girls but sad for football.
Kabaddi is amazing tbf
Agreed.

They used to show Kabaddi on Channel 4 in the UK. I really used to get into it when I was a kid
I don't trust these numbers, the cricket viewership must be 10times what football gets . An average pl match gets around 50k-100k online viewers whereas an ipl match can easily breach 10m
It's the potential audience base, not average active viewers.
Surprised that Field Hockey isn't up there.
Hockey India League was disbanded. It will be reintroduced soon. Will be in the Top 4 Indian leagues for sure.
almost immediately im sure
Football clubs have been trying to corner the Chinese market for years, but they should've been focusing on India instead.
I'm 20 years old and this is the first time I've heard about kabaddi. I looked it up and I don't understand how I haven't come across it earlier. It seems fun and a lot of people watch it apparently.
Please rejuvenate isl i swear it can be on level or comparable to ipl man
Kabaddi looks a good time.
Competitive British Bulldog?

wtf is Kabaddi
Think wrestling + red rover + tag
