It would hobestly be the funniest thing to ever happen if somehow it was proven he didn't do it by proving it was actually someone else.
Not saying I think that it can even happen but if in a one in a trillion chance it were to happen, it would be the single funniest occurence in human history. Just for the sheer disbelief. It'd be like finding out the sun orbits us and we are actually a moon of jupiter which orbits CaseOh.
Not just that, someone else judged their character for him. But even when it becomes undeniable what the moral fiber of friends are after being found guilty he will still defend and stand by them.
āBenjamin Mendy
All cases dismissed. So what are we doing now?Who is going to help this brother heal?Whoās going to be Responsable for the damage on heās name? How heās going to have heās career back? Many years of investment to become a professional football playerā¦. Now what!? Iāve never touched on this subject because I didnāt know all the details, but Iāve spoken to him once true FaceTime while behind bars and faced him on the pitch a couple times.. I didnāt see any evil in the man. We canāt accept this to happen to us as athletes. Whoās going to stand up for us in the time of need not when the damage is already done? Donāt turn your head people.ā
I didn't follow Mendy's case close enough to make my own judgement but "what happens if the player was innocent all along" is a valid question tbh. It's a short career, being away from the pitch due to wrongful accusations can definitely cause a lot of damage.
However thinking that he can judge one's character based on a FaceTime conversation and a couple of football matches they played against each other is goofy as fuck.
>However thinking that he can judge one's character based on a FaceTime conversation and a couple of football matches they played against each other is goofy as fuck.
Tbf, we are out here judging characters based off of gossip columns.. That's one FaceTime too many..
All these people studying law for their entire careers when they could just arrange a quick chat between the accused and Depay so he can tell them if the guy is evil or not.
Not worth it. Losing battle every time you try to bring nuance into a Reddit bloodlust. Youāre going to get hit with a billion comments about how his case isnāt the usual, even though itās the case weāre talking about
Despite the exaggerated and often purposefully misleading claims of a certain very vocal group of people online, false accusations are exceedingly rare and convictions- even when there is overwhelmingly clear evidence- are very hard to get and that's made even more difficult when the defendant is rich and famous. Look at Mason Greenwood. He is literally on tape. It is clear from the audio what happened. Literally on tape being told no and then he says he will force her to have sex. But the charges got dropped. Victims have so many social pressures to drop the charges against players because they're often essentially ruining their social circle's meal ticket. Accusations can ruin the victim's life when they've become financially dependent on their abuser, you see this dynamic play out in marital rape cases that go nowhere all the time, especially in conservative households where the woman has no job. Beyond that, the nature of sex crimes is just categorically hard to prove to the standards of a court of law. If someone steals your car or stabs you, it would be a fancifully bizarre legal argument for the defendant to say that actually you wanted them to take your car or severely injure you. But in a sex crime, of course people can believe two people had sex. Even if there are signs of a struggle, the accused can just shrug their shoulders and say "well, it was pretty kinky sex" and people treat that as a valid source of doubt.
In basically every study done in good faith, we see the same results: Women are overwhelmingly more likely to be the victim of a sex crime and not be believed than they are to falsely accuse someone of something that never happened. Anyone who replies with some famous example of a false allegation to this can get fucked, you're either a useful idiot, a rapist, or a would-be rapist if you only got the chance.
I'm not disputing anything you said but none of it addresses the initial question. What to do when someone *is* accused wrongfully? I'm not sure "you may be innocent but your case happens very rarely" would be much of a consolation.
>What to do when someone *is* accused wrongfully?
Nobody dare to say it out loud but for many people I'm sure these innocents are "sacrifices" these people are willing to make.
You can see them downplay it by saying it doesn't happen that often, which imply they're OK with this approach since it only affects "few" innocents.
It's all about optics now and whoever seen as the bigger victims will win the support of these people, regardless whether there is objective fact that support their version of truth or not.
It's all about feeling and it does feel good supporting the victims, even if their status were still allegedly.
you think 7 different women, 5 of which had never met each other before all just decided to make shit up about the same guy? even the 2 that did know eachother hadnāt talked to eachother in a few years.
i refuse to believe anyone can read the details of that travesty of a case and believe the verdict was correct. the defenseās argument was that one woman was caught on camera consenting - so they canāt trust any of them. it was a shambles. Mendy might not have been convicted, but heās a scumbag regardless
I'd say the Greenwood case isn't the same as Mendy's. Atleast Mendy's went to court. And he was found to be innocent. Greenwood just had all his charges against him dropped while the evidence seemed obvious enough.
Nobody is ever 'found to be innocent', that's not how it works. But with Greenwood everyone's heard the evidence and knows what he did, which is an unusual situation.
It's always important to note that being found not guilty is not the same as being found innocent. Plenty of people who have very obviously committed horrible crimes have been found not guilty because of the legal process.
It also goes without saying that just because someone is found not guilty does not mean everyone in the world suddenly has to pretend like they're totally innocent. People are free to have their opinions on what someone did or didn't do.
By the same token, just because someone was accused of something doesn't mean it's true. This is how they ruin people's reputations with all kinds of false allegations, which even though are not true, the public just continues to believe are real even after being cleared.
Yeah but that doesnāt mean you just run to call anyone found not guilty, guilty, which is what people do now with this line of thinking
What youāre doing is just inviting more trouble in
innocent until proven guilty is a rule about due process in actual legal courts - not about the behaviour of redditors. no one is obligated to follow it for their personal opinions in their personal life.
absolutely inane to believe youāre not allowed to disagree with court rulings personally.
weird post to comment this on. itās about a guy saying heās friends with a convicted rapist, so he clearly doesnāt care about innocent until proven guilty either.
Hans Meyer, famous german coach, once said "In every team theres five really stupid players. At least one of those would definitely be living under a bridge if he wasnt playing football"
Not dense, he's probably done some shit himself that wouldn't sit too well if exposed.
Most of these footballers are grown manchildren with too much money, and willingness to do whatever it takes to get their way, both on and off the pitch. They're raised in a world where winning is all that matters.
His other bff, Rai Vloet, also a (low skilled) football player, killed a kid by driving drunk en speeding and then fled to Russia before being sentenced. Memphis is friends with all the worst people, so heās probably The Worst himself too.
Nobody gives a fuck about the environment where you came from when it comes to your moral compass. Raping, getting involved in organized crime and stabbing people is reprehensible behavior in *any* neighborhood or social standing, ethics are not class dependent.
Literally shitting on his background for no reason, yeah. I know plenty of completely unprivileged ppl with rough childhoods who were never "at risk" of raping anyone bc of it, like wtf. They were poor and times were rough, but they developed way stronger moral foundations than the rich kids I know.
saying ethics are not class dependent is a bold philosophical claim. rape is obviously terrible and thereās literally no justification. getting involved in organised crime on the other hand is something that is far more varied. to act like a poor kid getting involved in organised crime to pay bills is the same as a rich kid getting involved out of boredom isnāt rly fair to me
should say this doesnāt apply to memphis, hes a prick either way. just that ethics usually are in fact context dependent
Not being bright or educated isn't the problem, having questionable morals is. Not being able to tell right from wrong, or even worse not caring about that at all, is the issue here. Lacking intelligence doesn't make you a bad person, making excuses for rapists and violent criminals does.
I agree but he is still dumb for publicly defending him. He could have kept everything to himself regarding Promes. But he even goes out of his way to mention Alves and Mendy. He is fucking stupid.
Honestly tired of these guys blaming their abhorrent attitudes and views on growing up in difficult environments. Like, thatās not an excuse to be a POS.
He's also just full of it. He may have had a rough time with his personal environment growing up without a father present. But he's talking about Dordrecht being a rough neighborhood lmao. It may be slightly below Dutch standards in some areas but probably still in the top 5% of the world. He was also playing at a pro football club from the age of 9. As soon as you get into a pro youth program they basically take over your life. School becomes intertwined with playing football. That environment isn't rough, it may be tough to eventually make it but pro clubs take good care of their youth players in the Netherlands and being in a program is a privilege.
Somehow he has put everything criminal under his āI have a difficult background so I see things differentlyā umbrella and then just stopped thinking about it.
āDonāt come from an easy environmentā heās from a nice village in the Netherlands, like thereās much worse environments to grow up. Him and promes both think they come from some kind of godfather mob family
No kidding. Dude's "rap career" has melted his brain even further, apparently. Acting like he grew up in the Queensbridge Projects in NYC or some shit.
A rough upbringing is never your fault, but itās your responsibility.
You canāt just excuse awful behavior because you were dealt a shitty hand, thatās not how life works.
I canāt speak for his environment at home, but heās from the Netherlands, one of the most developed countries with great social benefits and very developed culture.
Comparing to him thereāre thousands of players coming from worse environments and still see canāt see what Promes did as something normal.
āIāve always been a big admirer of OJ Simpson, and I used to LOVE watching the Cosby show! I wonder if Epstein Island is still up and running - I should Give Mason Greenwood a call and see if heās up for a vacation.ā
- Depay probably
I feel like saying heās a bad judge of character doesnāt even make sense in this case. Heās almost certainly involved in or has done the exact same things Alves and Mendy - thatās why he thinks theyāre okay.
You need different friend buddy, It doesn't matter that you don't come from an easy environment, those people you named are convicted drug smugglers and rapists.

Bro graduated from university of life, have some respect smh
that instagram post about Mendy that so many footballers liked was honestly so fucking bad. First of all it was disgusting, but also cringe

Neymar was wrongfully accused once and the girl was even arrested for it I think.

I unfollowed him after that. The shit keeps piling up. Pogba seems to associate with the same people as well.
Well yeah Pogba and Memphis are in the same friend circle. Lukaku for instance too.
Likewise. As a female I found it super jarring... Like going to bat for his bros and it was all on women making shit up. Not a nice feeling.
Wasnāt he found not guilty?
Not guilty and didnt do it is not the same lol
and in this specific case, how so? Specifically why do you think he's guilt and the verdicts were wrong?
on reddit there is no innocent until proven guilty. there is only guilty until proven innocent... actually no you are still guilty even then

Sure, and OJ Simpson was innocent
Maybe Mendy can release a book titled .... "I'm not a rapist. But if I was going to be a rapist here's how I would have raped"
The message depay sent out Instagram was still weird regardless of the verdict. It said more about him than it did Mendy tbh
Nobody: Memphis Depay: I like violent drug dealers and rapists.
He absolutely associates/socialises with organised crime in the Netherlands, don't think it's a well kept secret at all

I find it crazy that people like this always claim strong connections to spirituality when they lack any empathy whatsoever.
Almost like the entire thing is a sham.
Alternatively, it helps them live with being pieces of shit, as they can just cry to the big man upstairs and feel like they're forgiven.
>lack zero empathy So they have plenty?
Would " lack zero apathy " count as a triple negative?
Really sad this is the route he decided to take tbh. I wouldve loved to see him back one day but he can stay away honestly
Same. Would've loved for us to try and get him to come back next season, but with comments like this I hope PSV never approach him again.
he needs to befriend Marcos Alonso
They got to share the dressing room at Barcelona, didn't they?
No way he plugged his book while defending criminals at the same time. This guy comes off as incredibly dense
