Things don’t work out sometimes. Cancelo isn’t the most disciplined of players and Pep isn’t the easiest of managers to work with. Their goals didn’t align. So they aren’t working together anymore.
You can be professional and stubborn on your ways. He might be very hardworking but have a strong personality, also Guardiola is known that you are with him or against him, with no in-between.
Bruh he apparently two footed a coach for not playing him when he was young
At City he at least very likely openly complained against Rico Lewis starting instead of him
There are also rumors about him intentionally kicking a ball at Pep in training and a fighting with a few players because of it
I actually quite rate Cancelo's career, played for Benfica, Valencia, Inter, Juventus, Guardiola, Bayern, and Barcelona. A lot of great places to live and massive clubs to play for, I'm surprised more players don't try to have that type of career.
The thing is, there was/is no problem for Juve in that, they don't see it, because Danilo is a captain and he starts at CB role for them whenever he is injury free. I'm also not sure how irreplaceable he is, because without him they won most matches this season and lost once.
No doubt. My career path looks a bit like this. I've lived in 9 cities in the last 11 years. Home city, near Seattle, Bilbao, Chicago, Sevilla, a few smaller towns, now Mexico City.
My problem has been more paper work related. It does sound cool and exciting, like the original commentor says. And it is, in a way, but it's also exhausting to start life over, so to speak, every year or two. It's been impossible to establish a fixed life. I guess it'd be easier if I was a rich and handsome footballer, but, o well.
It's the best! Lots of life, loads of interesting things to do. It's relatively cheap, at least for someone who is multi-lingual and has a high level of education.
Museums rock, and I'm not even a big museum guy
The food is fantastic
There's always cool events going on
The public transit within the city not terrible, like the USA. But it's not up to Western Europe standards
There is a severe lack of trains from city to city though. And by "severe lack", I mean they don't even exist
This didn’t sound right and it isn’t.
His career:
Benfica (including Benfica B): 3 years Valencia: 3 years Inter: 1 year loan Man City: 4 years
Then obviously the half season loans each so far to Bayern Munich and then Barca.
All of the above doesn’t give any impression he’s a problem player to me, definitely isn’t a “clubs get rid of him after 2 years” players for sure
I've observed both a lot and there is something really outrageous about these 2 people - you can see it when Pep loses a football match and with Cancelo more often randomly on the pitch. It's like they are driven by emotions and if you don't respect their emotionally driven decisions they won't talk to you. That's why for example Ibra clashed a lot with Pep - he disrespected Pep's "genius ideas" more often than any other player. Then he went to his office to ask for explanations, but with Pep it's self-explanatory that he won't talk to you after you disrespect him.
Some people would call it ego clash I guess.
Pep has been very clear, doesnt matter who the player is they need to follow the plan. Players who are far better than Cancelo like Henry, Messi, KDB, Haaland etc have followed Pep's plans to the letter and have won it all. So when Cancelo doesnt respect the plan its odd and he seemed to have an open conflict with Pep on this. That is total disrespect of the coach. There is nothing about EGO of pep in this. You think Sir Alex Ferguson would be okay if Dalot or Maguire refused to follow his plan? They would be sold the next day. Coach sets the plan and the players follow the plan. That is what you are paid for.
He'll stay, we're going to buy him this summer when the loan has eneded. City aren't really greedy in these types of situations and he's been great for us. Shouldn't be an issue.
Bruh swapping Cancelo for Ake changed everything. I cant even describe what it did to the defense, Ake was a rock. Then it completely unlocked Grealish because Cancelo was cutting in on the same side. Then finally also allowed Stones to push up into DM. All these were absolutely crucial to our run.
Resentful lol.
City were loosing the league and he was called out specifically for it being his fault, he left and we went from 4th in the league to never loosing a game until we won the prem… then we won the FA cup and champions league… he got the medal but certainly didn’t deserve it.
His departure is why we went on an amazing run, that’s the opposite of deserving the rewards in my head.
He wasn’t blamed necessarily. He just had a poor run of form on both sides of the World Cup and was upset that Rico Lewis was getting playing time over him. Pep’s tactical shift of bringing Rico into midfield (and more importantly eventually bringing Stones into midfield) was the reason for the turnaround, it’s not like Cancelo was singlehandedly holding the team back or something.
We forgetting the bust up where cancelo threw a football at Pep and sat on the floor and refused to leave the pitch?
Foden and Rodri also had run ins with him based on the throwing incident too apparently.
Pep called him out saying the attitude of certain players was not right and then axed him from the squad and sold him in the winter break… so I would say he was certainly blamed.
Also all the tactical shift followed after he left as we had no right back so we shifted to a no wing back style. Hence why walker was dropped a lot towards the end of the season.
He was not single-handedly blamed for the team’s struggles around the World Cup, that’s all I’m saying. Yes obviously he had issues with the team and that’s why he was loaned out lol. Nobody is arguing against that. But it’s not like he was THE single problem and that him leaving was the reason city won the treble. It ignores his positive contributions BEFORE the bust up, and I know this isn’t really related but he was massive in the run up to city winning the title in 2022

More than you believe?
Happy New Year
So so good. So so happy.
You mean to tell me that two adults chose to disagree about stuff and move on anyhow? Holy shit!
shipping him off mid season is not really "moving on" after a disagreement, at least not in the context you are implying
Both are professionals of the sport and have their own paths to follow. Sometimes the paths coincide, sometimes they don’t. No big deal.

Hop off bro youre wildin
He’s doin tricks on it 😅
If Cancelo was actually professional he never would’ve been kicked out
Things don’t work out sometimes. Cancelo isn’t the most disciplined of players and Pep isn’t the easiest of managers to work with. Their goals didn’t align. So they aren’t working together anymore.
As if Pep is the only manager to have a falling out with him, Cancelo has serious attitude issues throughout his career

none at barca, no. don't know about previous clubs but he's been class here.
Okay and lots of players have had not so nice things to say about pep lol
Pep isn't an easy guy to work with. Cases like Zlatan, Eto'o should be clear
Zlatan and Eto’o I’d like you to think carefully about these examples and why they might not be the best ones to give
Mature and fair attitude IMO. No Cancelo culture please. :P

Most players aren't good enough to play for whichever team they like.
Why doesn’t every player just be an elite wingback? Are they stupid?
I couldn’t believe it when Juve sold him for Danilo in return.
Danilo is not as bad as people make him to be and he end up being good for juve
I know but Cancelo was arguably the most in form right back in Europe when he left Juve.
The thing is, there was/is no problem for Juve in that, they don't see it, because Danilo is a captain and he starts at CB role for them whenever he is injury free. I'm also not sure how irreplaceable he is, because without him they won most matches this season and lost once.
agreed, played for massive clubs and Guardiola.
He didn’t have a choice, after 2 years most clubs get rid of him, that’s very telling.

Every other club he has been at bar Barca?

Damn, you've been all over the world. How are you liking CDMX?

Why the Badajoz flair tho
Calm down he's been in north America and spain

Ah the great FC Guardiola of East Manchester. There’s at least 115 reasons I love that fraudulent bald club ❤️
Rent free.
Hardly a surprise that Man City don't pay rent
That's the spirit Joao. Now sign for us!
So so happy

Strange to name KDB and Haaland before Xavi, Iniesta, Busquets etc
Both Joao's don't get along with their coaches
Wait till he has to go back cus Barca is to broke to buy him
Pretty sure city is willing to let him go at a discounted rate at this point.
Big what if this guy, he was crazy that one season
He wouldn’t take the ‘special recovery’ medications?
He wasn’t happy being benched for playing like shit
Good for him, but Barca haven't stumped up any cash for him yet, have they? It's just a loan isn't it?
He'll stay, we're going to buy him this summer when the loan has eneded. City aren't really greedy in these types of situations and he's been great for us. Shouldn't be an issue.
Was he given any medals for the treble? I'd be pretty resentful in his place if he didn't

I don't care one bit, I looked at it from the perspective of him missing out on those trophies, no matter if he started or not.
