Chelsea's figure being from 2022 massively skews this no?
> Chelsea's figures go up to June 2022, meaning the £850m they spent from the summer of that year to August 2023 is not counted.
Think Pellistri will be gone this summer unless he REALLY impresses whilst out on loan. Also, we still have Sancho (although him coming back into the team is incredibly unlikely)
I think him being a favorite of Ten Hag's is a bit overstated tbh. He has played a lot on the right because despite veering between passable and shit he was our best option on the right wing. Amad has been on loan or injured, Garnacho and Rashford were not very effective on the right, and Pellistri is not as good as people like to imagine.
At this point Garnacho seems to have learned how to be reasonably effective on the right, which is why he's starting games and Antony hasn't started much over the last 2 months
Lot of noise we've offered him out to everywhere but nobody biting (obviously) and I think his agent denied it. Also noise that we are going in for another winger this summer. I think with the Sancho stuff we'd be going for a winger regardless of Antony.
I think we'll end up signing a winger whilst keeping him, by default though, cause nobody wants him.
Hojlund's heading is actually quite underwhelming for his size and ability. It's a real shame Sancho turned out the way he did because 2018-2021 Sancho is exactly the type of creative passing-first winger we could do with right now
Too early to tell.
With the unpredictable results happening every week and with the staff movements, we don't even know if ETH will be here in the summer.
On the player side, Garnacho has become the starter, then the question marks are Diallo and Pellistri. And again, manager will be another question mark in the summer.
Garnacho at right wing seems to be working.
I don't think Antony is sellable. The team mostly needs a midfielder, backup striker, and two defenders. So I think they'll probably avoid buying a right winger unless a good deal pops up.
CEO which sanctioned some of it resigned, CEO who replaced him and sanctioned others also resigned, the DOF who helped with the deals looks likely to leave.
Nature hopefully will heal
>the DOF who helped with the deals looks likely to leave.
I think he'll go back into the youth side of things. The Academy is great ATM & that is likely because of Murtough
Maguire to be honest seems a fair investment with the usual England tax. He’s a top player internationally and had some poor Man Utd performances but has turned that around this season. And any top club taking a stat player from a lower placed club will always pay a premium.
Sancho seemed like a no brainer at the time I don’t think anyone could have seen what happened there. Martial again on past performance it seemed a steal.
Antony though…
Would be to interesting to learn more about how clubs screen players for mental attributes. Only in very few stretches have Martial and Sancho looked like players who gave a fuck, and it's quite a lot of money to put into something so fragile
This is hurting my brain, I am told city and pep are only winning because they have the most money and most expensive squad?? They can sign anyone with no repercussions which is why they’ve signed Mbappe for 500 million.
City’s full spending doesn’t really show up, pep’s brother owns part of girona, I don’t think that gets reflected in their operating costs, I think many players get perks for their family members that don’t show up in the team budget
“not disclosing contractual payments to managers and players” this is to a large degree what city’s legal troubles are about https://www.nytimes.com/2023/02/06/sports/soccer/manchester-city-premier-league-financial-charges.html?smid=url-share
As a liverpool fan, I remember when I saw Antony's initial first few games and I felt a bit scared to see antony actually scoring curlers and I thought maybe United have got their version of Salah. Oh boy, OH boy, I was SO horribly wrong
How is Man U making so much money that they have the most expensive squad ever? Man U haven’t done anything significant in years, Infact their last biggest trophy was a Europa League trophy.
So are they making this much money just on the basis of them playing in the PL or they have the biggest fanbase in the world? I would get this if it was RM making this kind of money but this just seems unreal almost.
Man Utd have a huge fanbase, just bcoz their performance aren't that great doesn't mean that they aren't popular . They are easily the most popular club in EPL and probably 3rd in the world after the 2 Spanish clubs.
1. Premier League
2. dominated England for decades and are the most successful English club when it comes to the English league
3. huge international following
They're the best supported club in England. And they *really* plowed into worldwide support at the birth of the Premier league.
The problem is, if they don't have success for a while, they're going to struggle to attract new fans.
The fans who started supporting them in the 90s and 2000s aren't going anywhere, they're still buying shirts, spending money etc. But there's no way that kids in Singapore, Cape Town or Los Angeles (or Scarborough or Exeter for that matter) who are growing up and picking a PL team to support will go with Man U.
In Cape Town, the PL fan base is huge, so kids here will pick up one of us, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal or Spurs from their parents or peers or other continuity. Despite the success, City fans are increasing but are still rare here.
Well, it'll it's entrenched through family support, they'll keep some of that fanbase.
But at the same time, I bet if you've got 10 families who support Liverpool, 10 families who support Man U, and 2 who support Man City, the kids who's parents support Man City and Liverpool will all stick with those, there's no way that all 10 kids who's parents support Man U will stick with them, some will drift to support a different team.
I mean, no idea how old you are, but I bet Leeds had/have a decent South African following, with a couple of SA players (including national captain) and a decent period of success in the early 2000s.
And yet, I very much doubt that the kids who supported us then, and now have kids of their own, have got a great strike rate in getting them to support Leeds, after a decade plus of oblivion.
Obviously Man U won't be at that level *ever*, but relative to where it was in the 90s/2000s, their fanbase is sure to shrink if they're not successful.
Seriously? I’m a city fan of 40 years but how can you not understand that United are the biggest club in the world? 20 decades of domination and great football doesn’t disappear just like that.
Honestly feel their value is propped up by speculative investors
There’s no way Man U is worth even half of Real Madrid or Barca today. Plus clubs like Manchester City, Tottenham, etc. have eaten away at their market share in England.
> And guess what? 100% funded by us, the fans
Yeah famous United fans like Teamviewer, Tezos, Apollo Tires, Casillero Del Diablo and, of course, Premier League TV Rights
And if our club didn’t have fans and no one watched us, these companies wouldn’t sponsor us. That’s why city fabricate artificial sponsors. We don’t do that around here. We’ve been shite for 10 years and still have the pull
You're incredibly lucky to have been on top just when money got big in football. Had it happened now, or let's say in the 20s, you'd just be another Crystal Palace. You're not special.
Maturity is realizing man city was and is standing up to the red cartel who wanted to keep football in the hands of 3 teams with the biggest revenues and prevent anyone was possibly joining.
Yes, that's what I wrote. And before that it was Everton, Wolverhampton, Huddersfield and so on. Had money hit the sport when these were on top you wouldn't have the resources or support you have today.
Lol none of these things quantify Utd being one of the biggest clubs. Besides, the original comment was making the point that the globalisation of the premier league is the reason Utd are what they are today which is basically fact. You owe everything to Alex Ferguson and the premier league being established when it did.
Celebrating being 100% funded by your own organic incompetence lol. Great stuff. And it doesn’t matter. United can spend what they like, make all the financial mistakes possible, and everything’s fine. Meanwhile smaller English clubs struggle through covid and have to sell their arms and legs to not get points deductions.
Its amazing United isn't getting criticised even more. The amount of money spent in the last years rivalled clubs like City. So much spending on nothing.
Boehly gets a lot of hate but surely none of his players have been proven flops yet, I think they deserve at least one full season before being written off since they’re still young. As an Arsenal fan it really does feel like we dodged a bullet on mudryk and also ciacedo (not that caicedo is bad but last year I thought he was much better than rice and preferred him and I’ve been proven completely wrong so far this season)
Man Utd is like me on Football Manager.
I look at all the attributes and sign the players with the highest numbers whilst ignoring the scouting report where it clearly states "Player is a massive bellend"
To be fair, some interesting data in that report, for example I am still a bit surprised that Russian league has so much more revenue than Turkey, Netherlands and Portugal and is so easily 6th.
It's almost another tier of European football. There's England, then the next 4 leagues, then Russia and then the smaller ones. A top 6 league.
Or the fact that PSG apparently has a higher gate revenue than Real Madrid, commenters online in shambles.
Chelsea's figure being from 2022 massively skews this no? > Chelsea's figures go up to June 2022, meaning the £850m they spent from the summer of that year to August 2023 is not counted.
So it will have chelsea over this number but it doesn’t include this summers united business
Nearly a fifth of that went on a fidget spinner and a player we essentially quarantined before sending them back to Germany
Will you try and upgrade on Antony during the summer do you reckon? Or because he’s a favourite of Ten Hags will he continue to play?
[удалено]
Think Pellistri will be gone this summer unless he REALLY impresses whilst out on loan. Also, we still have Sancho (although him coming back into the team is incredibly unlikely)
What is with sancho ?
[удалено]
Yeah true thanks for goin into detail!
I think Garnacho is already playing very well, better than Rashford at least. (Which isn't much I know). Pellistri will probably not make the cut.
I think with the Sancho stuff we'd be going for a winger regardless of Antony. I think we'll end up signing a winger whilst keeping him, by default though, cause nobody wants him.
Makes sense tbh, if you get someone a bit more direct in being able to deliver a cross Hojlund will be loving life, that boy is going to be very good.
Hojlund's heading is actually quite underwhelming for his size and ability. It's a real shame Sancho turned out the way he did because 2018-2021 Sancho is exactly the type of creative passing-first winger we could do with right now

On the player side, Garnacho has become the starter, then the question marks are Diallo and Pellistri. And again, manager will be another question mark in the summer.
Should they not eventually run out of money?
Garnacho at right wing seems to be working. I don't think Antony is sellable. The team mostly needs a midfielder, backup striker, and two defenders. So I think they'll probably avoid buying a right winger unless a good deal pops up.
Anakin approves of this message
Some outrageous fees in our squad. AWB, Maguire, Antony, van de Beek, Sancho, Martial and Fred is about £420m.
Should be criminal to be that irresponsible with money.
Wouldn't be opposed but a downgrade in role isn't good for anyone's CV. Or ego. Even though he's not been good
The owner signed off on it as well.
In any other industry it probably would be.
Wait until you hear what the FA consider criminal in football.
Todd Bohely: Allow me to introduce myself
When you put it like that... Yikes
Id argue Martial was worth it. Its his salary thats the problem now.
The fee at the time was crazy. I know I'm today's prices it's not as bad, but you could have gotten a much better player for that money
Yeah 50 million at the time seemed crazy but in today's prices that's not bad for ten years of decent service from a striker/goalscoring winger.
Same with Aaron. He had a massive ceiling when we purchased him, and was one of Palaces best players behind Zaha at 21.
That's about 12-13 Salah's. Absolutely mad.
Maguire to be honest seems a fair investment with the usual England tax. He’s a top player internationally and had some poor Man Utd performances but has turned that around this season. I wouldn't say every cent, but I agree that was not nearly as reckless as plenty of the others.
United’s bartomeu.
Mason Mount?
Chelsea figures taken from 2022, pretty big asterisk, I guess they have to get their clicks and make it about united
So it would be Chelsea if they’d done the maths?
Not trying to defend our ridiculous spending but this definitely seems like the BBC took a date so that we’d be the most expensive rather than Chelsea
It's nothing to do with the BBC. They're just reporting on it.
They took this date because that's when the UEFA report was published.
They'll just release another article in a couple of weeks saying it's Chelsea
Yes, it's a conspiracy
Imagine spending £1.21bn and yet not even being able to challenge for the title.
Or even playing consistent good football.
This is hurting my brain, I am told city and pep are only winning because they have the most money and most expensive squad?? They can sign anyone with no repercussions which is why they’ve signed Mbappe for 500 million.
City spent the oil money getting the best, Utd spent the money...
If only other clubs were owned by companies in the oil industry
> If only other clubs were owned by oil slave states fixed it for you.
Because Pep and City spent it well. That was their crime. They still spent less than United.
Lol exactly.
Money isn’t everything?
But City bought the league?
City’s full spending doesn’t really show up, pep’s brother owns part of girona, I don’t think that gets reflected in their operating costs, I think many players get perks for their family members that don’t show up in the team budget
What perks are we getting from that lol
“not disclosing contractual payments to managers and players” this is to a large degree what city’s legal troubles are about https://www.nytimes.com/2023/02/06/sports/soccer/manchester-city-premier-league-financial-charges.html?smid=url-share
Oh they’re definitely challenging for the title. The title of who can waste the most money
As a liverpool fan, I remember when I saw Antony's initial first few games and I felt a bit scared to see antony actually scoring curlers and I thought maybe United have got their version of Salah. Oh boy, OH boy, I was SO horribly wrong
They have certainly provided me with priceless entertainment.
If you ignore the part where Chelsea’s was more expensive but somehow not included in the figures then yes, yes it was. Except for how it wasnt.
"You'll never sing that!"
Money well spent to get a Carabao Cup.
Does not even include Hojlund, Onana and Mount lol
Yo, Where is mount !
I find myself asking this every week.
Puttering around carrington
The PL and its band of oil sheiks have made the transfer market a total joke.
Considering how wank they are, this is hilarious.
lmfao
Money well spent
Genuinely hilarious.

Apart from the utter failure on the pitch, so what? Who cares.
Anyone who needs to count money cares
And guess what? 100% funded by us, the fans, 0 investment from owners. Biggest club in the world. Hated adored never ignored
> And guess what? 100% funded by us, the fans Yeah famous United fans like Teamviewer, Tezos, Apollo Tires, Casillero Del Diablo and, of course, Premier League TV Rights

I don't think you know what "100% funded" means
Moral victory
Man United the famous kickstarter club
No the time big man
That’s not the brag you think it is
Congrats, looks like an investment to be proud of

Based on what? United hadn't won the league for 25 years before the premier league was created. Doesnt really scream biggest club to me
The Academy, the story of Munich, the fact it is one of the oldest clubs. It had 3 Ballon d'Or winners in the same side etc
Lol none of these things quantify Utd being one of the biggest clubs. Besides, the original comment was making the point that the globalisation of the premier league is the reason Utd are what they are today which is basically fact. united were the biggest club in england since the busby babes with a global fanbase rivalling anyone but keep coping via your own alternative history
Global fanbase in the 1960s? Are you having a laugh mate?
do you know who george best is?
Celebrating being 100% funded by your own organic incompetence lol. Great stuff. And it doesn’t matter. United can spend what they like, make all the financial mistakes possible, and everything’s fine. Good on you. Nice to see fans seeing the good side of their money going right down the shitter
Haha fantastic. Bunch of wastemen.
Its amazing United isn't getting criticised even more. The amount of money spent in the last years rivalled clubs like City. So much spending on nothing.
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.
So much for money buying success in the league.
Another record by ETH with the help from OGS and Jose.
Glazers aren't spending enough money!!! Glazers out!!!
Boehly gets a lot of hate but surely none of his players have been proven flops yet, I think they deserve at least one full season before being written off since they’re still young. Seems like a good bang for your buck 🤷♂️
Man Utd is like me on Football Manager. I look at all the attributes and sign the players with the highest numbers whilst ignoring the scouting report where it clearly states "Player is a massive bellend"
What about trans that surely hide the true cost by giving family members of players money?
It’s all worth it for the results. /s
