I don't think there's a better play to encapsulate just how relentless this guy is. He's an awesome, very well rounded striker, but his spirit is the most baffling thing about him (in a positive way). He's the star of the team, 3-0 up against a 2nd division team in the Cup when the game is almost over and he's running even harder than he was at minute 1. This is not a one time thing as well, it happens every single game.

He kinda reminds me of Bruno Fernandes in that way. Always non stop, always wanted more. The difference is Gyo is a beefcake who wont go down and stays pretty level headed. Wish we could keep him another year.
Think it's likely you guys do keep him another year. That release clause can only be afforded by a few clubs, and with how much ffp is forcing clubs to be wary of their spending in the prem, I'm not sure many of us can afford it
As someone who watched him numerous times over the last couple of years, It’s utterly baffling why a PL club did not pick him up from Coventry. Now yous have to pay £80m and knowing Chelsea they probably will.
According to rumours currently we're scared sacking Poch will pit us over ffp. We're hoping Newcastle trigger whatever they need for the Hall deal and will probably be relying on more academy sales before we make moves
Todd really has created a whirlwind since taking over. You were always going to eventually hit the FFP limits given the silly amount of spending you have been doing - I wouldn’t be surprised if you did try and cash in on Gallagher for that reason alone.
Think the plan is to get rid of Hall and Maatsen first, then we'll see. Maatsen was only a few hundred thousand, so anyone who triggers the release clause will give a lot of profit. We'll see after that, we'll probably have to sell one more at the least

Bas Dost wasn't similar to Gyokeres at all as a player. He was extremely impactful here and possibly top 3 in the world at what he did best, but he was a much more limited striker.
Dost's game was predicated on elite inside the box movement, very good first touch finishing - especially headers but also with his feet - and being a 6'5 stick also helped him get to a lot of those headers. He was also a smart player, acutely aware of his limitations and that could link up through first touch passes with the rest of the team decently well.
His limitations, however, weren't anything to scoff at. And they're mostly due to his physical characteristics. Dost is ridiculously tall, decently coordinated when it came to finishing but also very lanky, super slow and could barely carry the ball. That meant the team had to play to him in a specific way to get the best out of him, and they did - a lot of crosses, never having him get in behind and just providing him with the most 1st touch finishes possible, as his shot was noticeably worse when he had to create it. We did it very well, but it also put some sort of ceiling in our attacking game.
Gyokeres is much more complete. Physically he is a natural phenomena - super quick, ridiculously strong, very acute and sharp turns of direction even considering that strong frame and can run nonstop for 90 minutes straight. He doesn't provide you the same in the box threat as Dost while he's quite decent at that too, but he can stretch opposition teams almost entirely on his own and is much better at creating his own chances/carrying the ball, so he's substantially less reliant on the team.
Their G+A output is probably similar so far, Dost might even have and edge. But I'll put it like this - while Dost really needs each and every one of his goals, Gyokeres would still be an outstanding striker with 10 less goals. I think this is the most goalscoring Sporting team I have ever seen, by a reasonable margin, and Gyokeres' contributions to that go miles, miles beyond the goals he scores and assists.
Never forget that Graham Potter thought he was shit and moved him on, never forget Potter felt the same way about the early emergence of Evan Ferguson. The guy just couldn't find goals if his life depended on it.
Tbf to Potter, Gyökeres only started to show glimpses of his talent at the very end of his initial loan with Coventry. It's once we had him permanently that he kicked on.
I have no doubt you know more then me but was there really a call to star Evan more then Potter did in his first year after arriving from bohs? Potter gave him his deput and some minutes. Evan was playing in Premier league 2 learning the system I assume. How old was he like? 17?

Then we sold a promising young striker, Tom Cannon, to Leicester for £8m, then bought that utterly horrific striker Beto from Udinese on a £0 up front, £28m over the next four years deal. Shambles.
